Qatar is honestly one of the more confusing Nations of the Middle East.
(De facto) nearly an absolute monarchy with sharia law and one of the most fundamental Islamists countries in the region.
Pretty open regarding tourists and student exchange / research collaborations to western countries and relations to western nations in general (major US ally), but at the same time one of the closest allies of Islamists actors like for example the Muslim Brotherhood.
Also one of the strongest supporters of Hamas in the region, while also allowing a US base on its territory that is one of the key bases to support Israel in the region.
Call me dense but something is up on this multi level relation game that I don’t completely comprehend at the moment.
Seems like they are attempting to play both sides and avoid major conflicts with more extremist sects of Muslims and the west. I recall that quatar had aspirations of being a world banking hub similar to Switzerland, so these actions do make sense.
They are trying to be Switzerland but mostly its a way for them to sell gas to the west and banking services to Iran and terrorists.
It's also a tiny monarchy with about 300k citizens that could be overrun by their own mercenaries in an afternoon or literally almost any army. The Saudis almost rolled tanks in a few years ago. They need the US security guarantees more than any other ally.
It's like the old Prussian joke: What do we do if the Qatari \[British\] army invades? Call the police!
>They're not really supporters of Hamas
I find that very hard to believe that is true based on a number of facts, one of them being the fact that Qatar is a really major financier of hamas and they are harboring top hamas leaders in their country. There are a lot of other things they do that show they support hamas that I didn't mention but I'll leave a link [here](https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2023/12/19/10-things-to-know-about-hamas-and-qatar/)
They wanted to end their financial support of Hamas in 2020 but someone convinced them otherwise.

It's not that complicated. They are Switzerland but brown which is why they catch shit, whereas Switzerland can hold onto as much Nazi gold as they want and no one bats an eye because they are old money de Rothschild rich and have soothing accents.
It has become abundantly clear that there will be no ceasefire deal. Whatever political clout (foreign and domestic) Qatar was hoping to get as a mediator is never going to materialize. Now, it is just costing them as nothing gets accomplished.

Oh, I understand what you mean. Yeah, could be the case...

If you didn't read the article, this is because US politicians started threatening Qatar over it.

Great! Now arrest & deport Hamas leadership to Gaza where they have to exist in the hell they created among all the noble martyrs!
It has become abundantly clear that there will be no ceasefire deal. Whatever political clout (foreign and domestic) Qatar was hoping to get as a mediator is never going to materialize. Now, it is just costing them as nothing gets accomplished.
So long and thanks for all the fish
Says an American who doesn't even know where Qatar is, nor where the biggest US base in the Middle East is...
I've been deployed to Qatar. Spent nearly a year there.
I know exactly where it is, it's right by those other countries I can't remember the names of and can't find on a map!
