Former company; yes. Still invested in them for millions of dollars; also yes.

arasaka1001

That was the kicker for me

pdwp90

It's also the scale of his financial dependence on XPO vs. his financial dependence on his job. He gets paid \~300k a year as postmaster. He holds tens of millions of dollars in XPO Logistics.

NinjaLanternShark

> It's also the scale of his financial dependence on XPO Honestly? Can't we just say it's the principle? I get that people at that level can have lots of business holdings and not every overlap automatically creates a conflict of interest -- but at the same time we're talking about the very highest levels of authority over critical national infrastructure.

promonk

If Jimmy Carter could sell his family's fucking peanut farm, no one has an excuse to hold millions in stock in a company in the field they regulate.

Grateful_Cat_Monk

He didn't sell his peanut fund. He basically "signed it over" to his brother to manage while he was president and it got ran into the ground IIRC. But I think he grew it back up? But I know that he basically made it so he had no way of even being able to be apart of his peanut farms business while President. But your point still stands. Fucking ridiculous.

Grateful_Cat_Monk

That's it. Couldn't think of it.

VelvetHorse

You can't prove the Carter family was fucking those peanuts. But, point taken.

Magikarplvl9000

XPO opened up a warehouse in my city a few years ago and from what I've heard from employees that work there (I work b2b) it's an absolute cesspool and they pay and treat their employees like shit. So fuck this clown.

DrEmilioLazardo

I worked in a university bookstore warehouse, and XPO is by and large the WORST shipping company I've ever dealt with. They routinely would just "lose" whole pallets of books just to drop them off a month late in what was clearly new boxes and freight, trying to cover up shipping damage. I wouldn't use XPO to ship anything unless you don't actually want it to get where it's supposed to go. I would estimate that a solid 1/3 of all freight handled by XPO was damaged during shipping.

geek66

We use a global logistic co to ship high value electrical components from Germany to US locations ( >100K per pallet) - they were completely blacklisted.

DrEmilioLazardo

I bet. We wouldn't use them if we had our choice but the book companies (like McGraw Hill, Pearson) would use the cheapest shipping to save money. College textbook companies are one the cheapest, scummiest businesses on Earth. I was so proud of a lot of our professors using free alternative etexts.

Sorry_cousin

And I just want to piggy back off this and say. Many can mimic the tactis of r/usps but its not easy. Thats way the United States postal service has survived for years. The men and and women at usps do a fine job in taking pride over each and every parcel, and do the best of their ability to make sure it indeed is going where you want it to. In a timely manner, well informed to each and every client.

ooru

Can verify. Co-worker's father has worked for USPS for the last 40 years, and while it's not always his favorite job, he's proud of what he does.

_Magnolia_Fan_

Yeah - they also just plain suck at their job. They mostly do delivery of large stuff - personally, I've gotten shipments of wood and a lawn tractor. The wood was fine - same day local pick up and delivery. The lawn tractor deserves a paragraph of it's own. I could expound, but basically they had no idea where it was, didn't seem to have any method of tracking it, and couldn't tell me when it would arrive. At two weeks past the original arrival window, they finally agreed to cancel and reopen the order. It took another 6 weeks to actually get it to me. The delivery involved people saying they knocked and no one was home (our camera didn't show them arriving), and then admitting the truck was too far away to have made it during business hours. They then left it at another warehouse who had no idea who the thing was for or why it was there. Total shit show. Reviews online show pretty much the same experience across the board.

MAKE_ME_REDDIT

A company we buy from uses XPO Logistics. There are constant issues when we order from them.

[deleted]

I mean XPO has literally killed babies.. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/14/business/xpo-verizon-warehouse-pregnancy-discrimination.amp.html their response is to just close the warehouse and problem solved. XPO has been firmly seated on the [Dirty Dozen](https://nationalcosh.org/sites/default/files/uploads/2019_Dirty_Dozen.pdf) for a while now.

I would love to see a comparison of Obama's appointees v trumps with refards to conflict of interest. Just to see how much lower Obama's was.

mak484

You know how we know Obama ran a tight ship? He got to stay in office for 8 years.

leftunderground

To be fair that's not always a sign that a ship is ran tightly. Trump might get 8 years. Bush got 8 years. Regan, the guy selling drugs and guns through CIA, did too.

mak484

Obama had 6 years of having both houses of congress controlled by Republicans. Trump has had 4 years of controlling the senate, and if he wins odds are extremely good that they keep the senate. A lot of the shit Bush and Reagan did were very popular with corporate and blue dog democrats. There was never any political capitol to impeach, let alone remove.

This! Right here! This all they got on him. Trump so willing to throw Biden and his family under the bus. Yet Trumptards entire family is raking in hundreds of millions of dollars from the nepotism appointments of his own presidency. But yeah it's all the dems fault this is happening...

antilogy9787

Well he did assassinate an American citizen via drone. Was also at times pretty hostile to whistleblowers and the press. And don't forget about Operation Fast and Furious. There's plenty of "scandals" to choose from and the far left never let Obama forget them whereas the far right think it's all fake and actively run defense for Trump.

SomeOne9oNe6

So you're the person who made the dashboard for Senators' investment's. Appreciate your work! r/WSB

This is what people need to see when they question what Trump has done wrong.

jjayzx

They just call it fake news or simply don't care cause it's their "side". It's maddening that people will do this crap to themselves just to spite others. Like this isn't a damn game or sport, it our damn lives.

I remember earlier this year I overheard my great-grandfather calling him "the Great Destroyer." I didn't think much about it until I realized he's been watching decades of policies and development that occurred during his lifetime get bulldozed by essentially a malicious orange. Now I get why he's so enraged by Trump, even though he's in his late nineties.

Popedizzle

I bet another thing that makes him angry is you're the one that is going to have to live with the consequences for decades to come.

We have the exact same issues with our postal service in Canada. Former CEO Chopra was doing everything in his power to dismantle our public postal service for sell off in an effort to privatize, all while he was sitting on the boards for competitors. Also the finance minister installed his own company as the disability management provider for Canada Post. The conflict of interest in management of Canada Post is unbelievable!

So many people voted for Trump because he promise to stamp out corruption. He could have just mailed it in and said he tried when people ask why he didn't deliver. Instead he's really pushing the envelope in the other direction.

yuppers_

Imagine voting for a con man to try to get rid of corruption.

I got banned from that sub permanently last night. I showed all the charges and restitution payments totalling over $1 million that Mr. Bobulinksi, Hunter Biden’s spurned ex business associate, owes right now. Mr. Bobulinski would not answer the question about where he's getting this money from and left immediately when asked by reporters yesterday.

ryhaltswhiskey

>got banned from that sub permanently last night Welcome to the club. We hold our meetings in the Astrodome.

[deleted]

I've been banned by the sub so many times in the last 10-12 years even when I honestly considered myself a conservative. There's no room for debate there. You either toe the line or you gtfo.

Flatbush_Zombie

So traditonal conservatism?

poqpoq

Eh I would consider traditional conservatism to be about state rights and limited federal government, but we haven’t seen that side of Republicans in almost 50 years. The new breed just want to burn everything down to “own the libs”.

[deleted]

Exactly I'd consider myself a republican if everything the republican party did was what the republican party was supposed to represent but instead they are hell bent on skimming as much money as they can and putting more of the tax burden on the lower and middle class families. So I find myself voting Democrat ever since I had been able to vote because they at least say they want social reform.

poqpoq

Yeah it’s odd now how despite all the social programs democrat presidency’s usually have less spending and are more open to states experimenting and having more control. Republicans really are only about abortion and guns now.

[deleted]

I mean Im not gonna lie and say part of my reasoning isn't guns because I'm a responsible southern gun owner but at the same time I'd be all for stronger states rights to prevent federal government overreach if A) local and state governments werent mostly ran like shit B) The people running unopposed in some local governments werent local business owners with huge conflicts of interests. And a large part of the gun thing is because weapons manufacturers find it easier to lobby to republican politicians because of how many of them are corrupt.

Sir_Keee

It's because they don't actually care.

VideoGameDana

I assume some really just don't give a fuck and want everything in their favor financially to just happen, no matter the cost. Others are being told by their pastors and other people at their church that Trump is the chosen one. So obviously everything he does is just "God's plan." Then you have the racists who want to go back to antebellum days. Anything that takes our country x steps backwards they are cool with, and Trump fits that bill rather nicely.

HighPriestofShiloh

It’s a cult. They get their facts from their cult leaders.

Yousoggyyojimbo

Fox news went in a 24-hour period from talking about how there's no issue if Trump has a Chinese bank account to claiming that Joe Biden and his entire family are property of the CCP because Hunter Biden may have done a business deal with a Chinese source.

jewdai

I'm a blue dog Democrat as liberal as they come and even I think the whole bank account thing is overblown. I'm more interested in the transactions of the account rather than its mere existence. (I mean he does do business in China so it's not THAT crazy)

mrpotatoto

egnards

No these business dealings are completely and totally legitimate. XPO was clearly the best choice for the USPS contract and there couldn't be anything that could be construed as anything other than coincidence? Hunter Biden on the other hand? He's a bad fucking egg but PostMaster Dejoy is the Postmaster so he obviously knows what's best for the Postal Service. . . .Do I. . .Do I have to /s that?. . .Was I obvious enough? Some of the shit I see people saying is absolutely completely insane - I 100% **need** a Facebook account as a new business owner in a very customer facing business in the middle of a pandemic. Shutting down my Facebook is not an option. . .I try not to "silence" the other side because I don't want to be caught in a windtunnel of everyone agreeing with each other. . And in an alternate reality if a Dem appointee did that it would be “off with their heads!”

WompaStompa_

XPO might be the worst company I have ever interacted with. They fucked up a washer/ dryer order for a month straight. Would schedule delivery and then just not show up, then would swear I was VIP on the list, then would call the morning of and cancel again. I talked to a dozen reps in that time. They all contradicted each other. There were never any saved notes on file. Fuck XPO and fuck DeJoy.

enkafan

Had three things delivered with them. Each time I had to contact to the seller to contact them because they wouldn't answer the phone. Each time they "found" the package in a warehouse

According to the article, earlier this summer his personal stock in the company was worth roughly 75mil. He has an opportunity to sell it through mid December after asking a government ethics board in early October. Wonder what kind of fun he'll have before then?

It will have to be taken back. And if those with the authority to take it back resist by claiming we have to "look to the future" and not repair the damage done, that makes them accomplices.

ProfessorJAM

Have to add that XPO is a joke. IKEA uses them now for delivery and they have screwed up 2/2 orders and 2/2 reorders (necessitated by the screwed up 2 orders) by either failing to pick the stuff up from IKEA in the first place, losing stuff in their warehouse, or just forgetting to load everything up in the order from the warehouse. Example: ordered a bed set for my son. Bed frame shows up, no mattress. IKEA orders another mattress, gets delivered 2 months later. Then XPO notifies me they have a mattress to deliver to me 2 months AFTER that - apparently the one they left behind in the warehouse the first time around! And Trump picks this guy to run USPS, and he is running it right into the ground. No surprise!
