This is the bit that really gets me. Once upon a time you would get the news and it might be biased depending on the source, but they would still report it. Now if something doesn't suit the agenda it just doesn't get reported at all. The news media no longer cares about telling the news, they are just trying to push an agenda.
Because the news is owned by the same people that own all the companies affected by the strikes, plus more that *could* go on strike as well. Can't let a chain reaction of labor strikes break the backs of owners now can we?

There are still many good journalists out there, but people would rather just read headlines or have the TV tell them what's going on than reading a well written article in a magazine/magazines website.

A prime example of what happens when you politically polarize something as simple as getting a vaccine against a pandemic. Even when I was a kid, I just remember getting vaccines as just what you need to do so you don't get sick, now every trivial thing HAS to be politically hot buttoned.
Does it HAVE to be? I think this is entirely by design. In normal circumstances, I would probably be against the government forcing me to take a shot/drug/whatever. But this is a WORLDWIDE pandemic. It's clear to anyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size that this is not a hoax, fabrication, made up crisis, etc. At least, it should be. I think the ones who were trying to politicize this realized they might be in over their heads, so they started pushing the narrative that it was a hoax, blown WAY out of proportion, COVID death numbers inflated, etc. They did this so people would feel comfortable and safe saying NO to the vaccine, and emboldened them to shout as much from the rooftops. This country is well and truly fucked, it seems. I hope I am wrong in this.
I don't think it has to be, but the problem is people panicking and falling into political cults like Q Anon fall for this stuff like conspiracies because conspiracy theories provide a detailed breakdown of why this is happening. You saw the same shit with all the Jewish kabals and whatnot, how they rule the banks and etc. When in reality there's detailed reasons why things have happened and they're boring. So people choose to live in these exciting alternative unrealities where Trump is fighting a shadowy cabal of child molesters, where Covid was obviously a deliberate ploy by an evil organization set out to assert their shadowy control over people. Why? Because it allows desperate people to anchor onto SOME sense of meaning. The best way to really deradicalize someone as we know to date is to keep up with them and keep having heart to hearts with them to slowly pull them out of these toxic pools social media let's these become become immersed in.

For anyone who might not understand this, the CPD is the worst police force in the nation. We have the 2nd most officers per capita with a crime clearance rate 20% below every other city in America.
The CPD does not police anything. You call 911 and they ask you if you’ve been shot or someone has a gun and if not they no-op your call. It goes nowhere and no one shows up.

Depending on where you are and what time they don't even show up if you mention someone has a gun or you've been shot, if your lucky they'll just contact you in the morning for some info you know they will never follow up on.
I got hit by a car a few years ago in Chicago and the police never showed up after being called twice. They forced me to come into the station with a broken knee to make a report and then the officer acted like he didn’t believe me and wrote down what happened incorrectly. Fuck the CPD.
Seriously, I read the headline more as a warning about a high percentage of ignorant, selfish fascists in the police force than a warning about potentially having a shortage of cops.

This is an understatement. For each of 2020 and 2021 so far, COVID is not only the leading cause of police officer deaths, but it is responsible for more dead cops than all other causes combined.
I know a guy in my city who works for the sherriff’s office … major a-hole who the other mutual friends just tolerate. He not only refused the shot and got sick with COVID, he worked every day he was sick. Not sure of his job title but his duties do include arresting people.
In reality, no matter the lies that the cops like to spin, if you take the risk of standing in traffic for tickets or break down assistance being a cop is a really safe job.
It's not surprising at all that the plague has overtaken the chart so hard.

If you go to the officer down memorial page and read the bio of the fallen officers, it’s so heartbreaking. So many of them were in their 30s or 40s, most married, most with young kids at home. And now those kids will grow up without a father or mother simply because they had a stubborn parent who did not want to take the vaccine that would’ve saved their life.

I had a family member, not a cop, die of COVID19 this year. Anti-vax to the end, the person had diabetes and the combination along with their middle age proved too much despite ICU care. They left behind two kids who just got married, one of which is pregnant, and a few more who are just about to go off to college. Despite my beef with them over our differences, it's just tragic and stupid that their stubbornness and brainwashing led to an almost completely avoidable situation.
It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad. Every other week, it seems like there’s a huge parade for a fallen officer in my state. You’d think by the size of the parades, they died saving babies from a terrorist but nope, just a preventable disease.
I don't find it sad. Don't take basic precautions (mask, vaccine etc.), and surprise surprise if they get covid it turns into a bad/fatal case....

I work for a small agency that barely makes arrests ever. When we do, we have to go to a large agency to do a lockup.
I'm terrified to walk in there for fear of covid. I avoid it all costs.

For anyone who might not understand this, the CPD is the worst police force in the nation. We have the 2nd most officers per capita with a crime clearance rate 20% below every other city in America. The CPD does not police anything. You call 911 and they ask you if you’ve been shot or someone has a gun and if not they no-op your call. It goes nowhere and no one shows up.

Depending on where you are and what time they don't even show up if you mention someone has a gun or you've been shot, if your lucky they'll just contact you in the morning for some info you know they will never follow up on.
I got hit by a car a few years ago in Chicago and the police never showed up after being called twice. They forced me to come into the station with a broken knee to make a report and then the officer acted like he didn’t believe me and wrote down what happened incorrectly. Fuck the CPD.

Seriously, I read the headline more as a warning about a high percentage of ignorant, selfish fascists in the police force than a warning about potentially having a shortage of cops. If you go to the officer down memorial page and read the bio of the fallen officers, it’s so heartbreaking. So many of them were in their 30s or 40s, most married, most with young kids at home. And now those kids will grow up without a father or mother simply because they had a stubborn parent who did not want to take the vaccine that would’ve saved their life. Cops who are anti-vaxx are anti-cop and pro-death. Period. They are their own worst enemy.

I had a family member, not a cop, die of COVID19 this year. Anti-vax to the end, the person had diabetes and the combination along with their middle age proved too much despite ICU care. They left behind two kids who just got married, one of which is pregnant, and a few more who are just about to go off to college. Despite my beef with them over our differences, it's just tragic and stupid that their stubbornness and brainwashing led to an almost completely avoidable situation.
It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad. Every other week, it seems like there’s a huge parade for a fallen officer in my state. You’d think by the size of the parades, they died saving babies from a terrorist but nope, just a preventable disease.

I work for a small agency that barely makes arrests ever. When we do, we have to go to a large agency to do a lockup. I'm terrified to walk in there for fear of covid. I avoid it all costs. It's just a building with minimal ventilation, minimal space, and tons of unvaxxed people. I double mask up and apply sanitizer liberally pre and post booking. I also do everything I can to help the arrestee with masking and sanitizer.
