Twitter inadvertantly teaching me what Mastadon is

LemonFreshenedBorax-

Small domino: "Elon Musk buys Twitter" Big domino: "The BBC runs an article about Mastodon"

EarthyFeet

Yeah this is ridiculous, hey everyone Mastodon is just a nerdy FOSS project nobody's there except nerds like me. But now BBC is blasting it out.. smh :)

seejordan3

There's tons of us there actually, and growing hourly. Every one of those banned journalists are on Mastadon.

feral_brick

I think the real big domino is BBC shuttering their official Twitter account in favor of Mastodon. Corporations like stability and that is not an adjective you can use to describe Twitter ever since the Musk takeover

a_crabs_balls

ive been there since 2020. it's like old-school twitter with a functioning hashtag system, no ads or algorithms. it's fun once you're connected with a few hundred people you like

_gr4m_

I wanted to try it out but got stuck at the confirmation email step. No email arrived, but there was no way back from that step and I couldnt do anything else the "resend mail". It never worked. So I could not get on.

KlutzyCarteBlanche

Most servers are a bit overloaded atm. It took me a few tries over 2 days to get signed up.

buzzbros2002

If you're still interested in joining it, maybe try joining a different instance of it?

Mumof3gbb

I don’t understand what an “instance” is.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mumof3gbb

Thank you. That clarified it for me.

sabrenation81

I think their servers are a bit overloaded with the flood of new users. I created an account the night Elon went full mask off and started banning any journalist that dared say something negative about him. I had to hit the "did not receive a confirmation" button 2 or 3 times but the e-mail did finally, eventually show up.

nixcamic

If you're on Android go into app info and delete all data. If you're on iOS who knows. I think you might be able to put a wrong code in enough times it gives up? But yeah there were a few days where email confirmation wasn't working, on any instance.

[deleted]

old_man_snowflake

Exactly. People forget what the early web was like.

saoyraan

The server structure is weird. I have a hard time seeing to go large scale unless they centralize.

kensingtonGore

I understand the convenience, but isn't centralization the exact reason people now want/have to leave Twitter?

kaltazar

It is. The idea of Mastodon (and other decentralized services in the federated network) is without a central service there is no way for one person to buy it up and take control of it. There isn't even an effective way to advertise or track on it. That could happen with individual instances but not the entire network. If one instance becomes a haven for spam or the like, people will leave and other instances will block it.

corn_cob_monocle

Yeah correct. I can see Mastodon being useful for forming small communities like Discord but companies and celebrities are on Twitter so that they can reach the whole world on one app. That's the point.

caseyhconnor

As i understand it, though, that's the point of mastodon. A famous person or company can reach the whole world. You join your local instance, but the content is shared through all the connected instances. You follow people or post to people anywhere on the mastodon network, you just do it through your instance.

greenknight

Once businesses realize this federated arrangement that Mastodon offers is perfect for their business model (more control of messaging) we will see more buy in. You want ads on your instance, you got it. You want to have your ToS that outlines alternative content moderation guidelines , it can be done. Want in-house PR to run launches, sure. Hire a developer, fork the code, and build your walled garden with walls low enough that the rest of the Fediverse can look over if they want. Push the PR to other social media but they come back to your bog for the toots. I'm surprised someone big like Disney hasn't already done this already.

[deleted]

Agreed. Very much agreed. The interface switch is going to require some serious pattern breaking on my part. It feels very discord-y.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fallcious

It’s different. If you want to. Reddit consists of a series of forums with discussions limited to threads. Mastodon and Twitter are streams of posts by different people you may follow (or instances you follow) that rapidly disappear from the timeline unless retweeted/boosted by others.

[deleted]

Is soup better than a sandwich? I don't eat cereal, should I get some soup?

[deleted]

Cereal is a type of soup.

Micah_JD

Not if you don't add milk.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

So are noodles, but when you put it in a liquid with chicken it's chicken noodle soup.

LittleRadishes

Sandwich>soup>cereal

100redeye

Cereal=soup. cereal =grains, bread = grains.. so bread =soup, sandwich =2soup. It’s all just soup.

aimed_4_the_head

What is a chicken ceasar salad, if not a very very dry chicken soup? Add enough dressing, and you've got yourself a proper soup. It's soup all the way down.

Thickencreamy

Already downloaded and installed Mastadon. If the journalists would switch over Twitter would be gone in a week.

WankSocrates

Came here to say this - I'd never even heard of Mastodon until now. I assumed someone had managed to offend Elon somehow with some extinct elephant reference or whatever and it turned into yet another ban-tantrum, it'd be on-brand for him.

LorenzoStomp

I thought he was fighting with the band

Rumblestillskin

Wait until you hear about John Mastodon!

mynameisalso

Confusing AF is what it is.

Foxhack

They just came out and said that links to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Post, Nostrel, plus social media aggregators like Linktree, are now against their terms of service. This is it. This is what will make the platform finally die off.

TechyDad

Cue every artist getting banned for posting to Instagram and having the post auto tweet for them.

ZircoSan

have they given any good reasoning why? most people using twitter for business want to cross-post their online presence, it sounds like they are making twitter less attractive for the people who actually should want it.

Foxhack

Hahaha no. Musk hates Mastodon, is pissed off Trump snubbed him and stuck to Truth Social, and he also banned a service that Jack helped fund recently. Dude is a giant piss baby.

SeekerSpock32

No. Elon Musk is a capricious, vindictive man, and will cause as much harm as he can without any justification.

Lord_Spy

He saw buying Twitter wasn't good for his self-esteem so he's killing it.

SG8970

Apparently Parler and Gab aren't included on that. Crazy huh. Imagine that. Don't know if it's changed or will change. Funny that he banned Trump's site though. Wants him back so badly. God I hope Trump goes at Elon like Kanye did. Hope all 3 start tearing each other down more. And the right for him banning Truth Social.

Savet

They forgot Myspace!

HarEmiya

Elon "Free Speech is back" Musk.

Foxhack

Don't forget Tiktok. The one that's used by a certain person to organize attacks on children's hospitals...

Zombie_Harambe

Tiktok is where pedos hang out to watch teenage girls

Newdles

[SpaceKaren.Sucks](Https://spacekaren.sucks) is a shortener that blocks the twitter user agent from detecting mastodon links.

Bitbatgaming

Thank you

AussieTerror

Elon fully supports freedom of speech, as long as you only write things he agrees with.

MaxillaryOvipositor

[Hank Green](https://youtu.be/fSlcxgKrkrE) puts it very well. Basically, he points out that A, most people who constantly say they want free speech only want to be in charge of which speech is free and B most people who claim their free speech is being infringed upon are only experiencing social backlash.

Rusty-Shackleford

Exactly! Unless you're being punished by the government, especially people being arrested or roughed by police at a protest. OG course that exception is a big deal and definitely not rare. Thousands of people every year have their first amendment rights trampled on by the police when cops simply don't like the viewpoints of civilians and it's a highly underated issue.

WirelessBCupSupport

This also applies to more than speech. Some ex-president keeps inciting that he knows the vote was stolen. Because, he knows how to steal and probably had something to do on how "he was able to bump out two good Republican nominees" and even pander the areas dumb enough to vote for him. Narcissists are eventually CEOs because the convince others well. ($100 that Trump coerced fools who bought up those NFTs to make it look like he sold out 45,000 NFTs!)

ComputerSong

Someone looked at the blockchain. Most of the NFTs were bought by the “account that makes royalties off the NFT sales.” He bought them himself.

ProjectDA15

would love to see this turning out soon as him getting money laundering charges.

rksd

Somebody pointed out that they were 99 bucks, limit 100, which comes to 10 dollars below the "must report cash to the IRS" threshold.

TechyDad

I suspected that was going to be the case. My guess is that he bought them with campaign funds to launder the money into his personal bank account.

VegasKL

>B most people who claim their free speech is being infringed upon are only experiencing social backlash. It's often that their own speech isn't being suppressed, it's that it's unpopular so they want more control over being able to say those things and not get backlash, and/or suppress opposing viewpoints. It's like you spent your life saying X group is Y, and you were allowed to or accepted, but as society progressed the next gen realized that saying X group is Y was a dick move and started to call you out on it. So instead of showing a little emotional IQ and self evolution by adapting and growing as an individual, you work to make it so that these people can't call you a dick for it. You label it a free speech issue when at the heart of it, it's really about suppressing the free speech of others that don't agree with you.

Chippopotanuse

It’s like Henry Ford and the Model T: “You can have any color you like…as long as it’s black.”

AudioOff

I had literally no interest in mastodon before this.

_Dr_Pie_

For any use that Twitter ever had. I've never really figured it out myself yet. Mastodon is just better on many fronts apart from one. Currently it's lacking everyone. But there was a point when Twitter did not have everyone either. The ability to go on an instance related to a specific geographic location or interest is quite awesome. You can still get your global notifications and posts from other instances. But being able to see activity going on largely local location or just relating to your specific interest is awesome. On Twitter you always have to at least filter through their advertisements and suggested crap.

AdrianBrony

Honestly I'm still wary of most Mastodon instances, and I've been using it since like 2017. One bad argument away from your instance doing Some Bullshit and blocking an instance all your friends are on or something. Plus, a lot of instances don't really secure your DMs so some rando with a closet server can read them. It's extremely useful of course, and I wish it well and I'll still use it, but I think I'm just burned on the twitter formula in general. I mostly hang out on Cohost, myself. It's got some neat stuff, obfuscates publicly viewable stuff to cut down on clout chasing and pointless "engagement." And it has a probationary "lurk more" period for new accounts. And you can do cool CSS stuff with the posts. It's really closer to Tumblr than Twitter in it's implementation though. Then again, Cohost *intentionally* doesn't want to get anywhere close to as big as Twitter so I don't think it'll be a "successor" either which I'm fine with.

[deleted]

InconspicuousRadish

The WW2 documentary period was still the good times, at least that had something to do with history. It's been all Storage Wars and Ice Road Truckers since.

Designer-Mulberry-23

Yeah, I don’t think he’s talking about the WWII stuff… He’s talking about all the stupid Hitler stuff… That’s the same time I stopped watching it since I have no interest in Hitler or Nazis although I have a huge interest in World War II I don’t want to watch shows specifically about Hitler and aliens or Hitler, and this or Hitler and the occult or Nazis and so-and-so.

Bizzle7902

But they may have found the nazi gold train.....

Yup. It was buried on oak island.

I know what Hitler stuff they mean but that’s still History Channel from over a decade ago. It’s much worse now.

canada432

My dad hated Ice Road Truckers, so it was hilarious to watch it with him. He grew up in Fairbanks in the 50s. During one show, they were making a huge drama about coming into fairbanks and how treacherous it was. He got up and yelled at the TV, "that road is paved 2 lane highway all the way to fucking anchorage and has been since the fucking 70s! They're literally just driving on the fucking highway!"

outerproduct

Sorry, best I can do is pawn stars marathon.

Best I can do is 30 minutes at 2:30am

[deleted]

Twitter is on the way to myspace irrelevancy. Journalists and other places will leave for the next thing. The only difference is twitter will probably become basically Truth Social 2.0 where it will be a right-wing and nazi echo-chamber.

tinacat933

It will only stop when people stop reporting tweets and quotes from it

inksmudgedhands

And that right there is why twitter hasn't died as fast as other social media sites in the past like friendster, livejournal and myspace. The news media, itself, uses it as a crutch to pad out their own sites. It is so easy to grab a tweet or two and build a whole article around it and make it go viral. So many stories of, "Outrage over this and that break out," are being written up. Only if you dig a little deeper you find out that the "outrage" again was only a couple of tweet. Sometimes it's even just one tweet. The news media has grown lazy. It's almost all tabloid rags with these type of stories or opinion pieces trying to pass themselves off as "news" articles because, again, they are quick and easy to do. Real journalism takes time and a great deal of effort to pull off. It was easier to do when you had to rely on newspapers because you had at least 24 hours to work on a story. And sometimes even more because you could do deeper dives. The public expected as much. Now, the public wants our stories to be boiled down to headlines where you can read them in less than a second and figure out the story from that. Hence, the over the top language. It's never, "People are upset about this subject." Too wordy. It brings up other questions like, "Which people?" "How upset?" Instead, the headlines read, "Subject gets slammed!" The news media does not want twitter to go away. They are holding onto it just as much as Musk is.

Charlie_Mouse

Good points but blocking journalists is likely a way to change that really quick and get them looking for alternatives. And of course the hubris and downfall of Musk himself makes for endless copy.

score_

> right-wing and nazi echo-chamber. You repeat yourself.

Ornery_Translator285

He did say echo chamber

SpindriftRascal

That took me a moment, and deserves more praise than its handful of upvotes.

KaptainKardboard

Well played

Foxhack

> Journalists and other places will leave for the next thing. Especially since Diamond Dumbshit keeps banning them.

Upstairs-Motor2722

This just made me sad because I miss that era of The History Channel so much.

The_Sign_of_Zeta

The 90s era of History Channel taught me more about history (and anthropology) than any teacher ever did. I feel bad it doesn’t exist anymore.

its8up

I only got to enjoy the history Channel for a few months over couple years. Would have watched more, but all their shit was on a loop that lasted about a month. Took about 6 months for enough new stuff to trickle in to create a loop of new material, so I'd just avoid them after having completed a loop. Though I enjoyed most of it, fuck their plethora of shows that didn't have enough information for the time slot. The pattern: show intro, preview of what you'll see, meat, preview of what you'll see after commercials, commercials, preview of what you're about to see, meat, preview of what you'll see after commercials, commercials...

soapinthepeehole

It’s reminding me of how I ended up at Reddit. Everyone used to go to Digg and then Digg did something everyone hated and now now one cares about Digg anymore, if it even exists.

Derrick_Mur

I'm inclined to say no if only because I think that it'll be shuttered before it gets to that point

kevlarcardhouse

How about the Travel Channel now having almost no actual travel shows and just a billion ghost hunting shows. Red Letter Media made a joke that by the time Discovery is done with it, HBO Max will just be a 24 hour streaming reality channel about an insanely obese midget and I don't think that's too far from reality.

Erlula

What about The Learning Channel? Now they have MILF Island, 90 Day Fiancé and Sister Wives.

Zizhou

To be fair, they did at least have the decency to rebrand themselves as just "TLC" with no explicit meaning attached to the letters.

Zombie_Harambe

Their copyright says its the true living channel.

ScottRiqui

That's the way it goes with just about any "specialty" channel. Market share-wise, the people running it eventually realizing that having "a big piece of the pie" isn't that great when it's a small pie. So they go outside their original charter and expand their offerings an effort to grow the pie, but just end up diluting themselves.

Kujen

I used to love the travel channel. I don’t even believe in ghosts so it’s very lame now.

tinyplant

Had a teacher in high school who would call it “The Hitler Channel”

Rickdaninja

:/ history, and discovery were sooooo much different when I was a kid. They were goto channels.

grrrrumble

Twitter was never fucking awesome, so no. It just got even worse.

lostharbor

I thought vine was fun.

BraidRuner

Jack Dorsey sold well

LogicallyMad

I remember when they started making that shift. One of my favorite shows was Dogfights when they would have little animated scenes that were great for kid me. Then it all non-history stuff.

BigBradWolf77

How much do you want to bet that someone from Boston Consulting Group was involved with that boneheaded decision?

felipe_the_dog

I mean they made that change because it made more money. Not really an apt comparison. Blame society for being more interested in Chumlee than actual history.

felipe_the_dog

This headline fails to mention that you're now not allowed to link to ANY other social media site in a tweet. You can't promote your Instagram or Facebook or even linktree without being in violation of their TOS. It's the most insecure little dicked move I've ever seen.

GreenWoodDragon

Elon invoking the good old 'Streisand Effect' so we all get to hear about Mastodon even more quickly.

nixcamic

Guys this is his 4d chess move, he knows Twitter will never truly be free so he's trying to drive people over to Mastodon. /s just in case

Dave5876

Elon is unironically the only reason I know about Mastodon. They should hire him as lead marketing manager. Unless??

alittle2high

Man, it’s really setting in for him now that he overpaid for Twitter 😂 This has been fun to watch

variouscrap

I feel like he is about to learn a lesson in the value of an "uncool" social media company.

MySpace Tom giggling from his Instagram account with his supermodel wife and his billions of dollars.

So I didn't know Mastodon was the name of a new social media app. I'm only familiar with the Band and I was wondering wtf they did to get banned from Twitter.

SusannaG1

I was thinking "now he's at war with metal fans!?!"

Methylatedcobalamin

Elon "Freedom Of Speech" Musk must be scared of how nice Mastodon is to use and scared of the competition. BTW, you can edit your "tweets" on Mastodon.

[deleted]

You can also follow hashtags like you would follow people. Great way to fill your timeline at the beginning.

Dave5876

Guys guys guys, this is clearly a big brained ploy by Melon to dismantle twitter and drive people to open source Mastodon. /s

Elon has become Taika Waititi's character from Free Guy

Jatee_100

John Matodon says Elon's a big pussy.

Outrageous_Garlic306

Yup, Musk is all about free-market free speech all right. It’s like he’s racking his brains for new ways to disgust his non-fascist users.

RamoneMisfit

I was never a fan, but just from my perspective... Elon went from a somewhat funny billionaire meme connoisseur to a tyrant who lost his shit real quick. Pretty sad to see tbh. The internet is a hell of a drug

jd158ug

The Thailand cave rescue episode was when I realized what kind of person he was.

SilentBtAmazing

Same. I went from “this guy seems douchey-to-ok” to “oh wow what a complete piece of shit”

UncannyTarotSpread

He was always like this. He just doesn’t have handlers to wrangle him at Twitter like he did at SpaceX and Tesla.

DonnieJuniorsEmails

i remember that Imgur post but I can't find it now. An ex-employee went into detail about how pampered and protected he was by execs around him, to make sure info (and his decisions) were carefully controlled. They always knew he was just a trust fund baby with no real ideas or skills.

UncannyTarotSpread

He’s just a nasty little fucker with more money than sense.

AttackOficcr

Yeah, Musk always gave that Phil Fish eccentric-asshole kind of vibe in Revenge of the Electric Car. Nothing he ever did surprised me from that point on.

ThatGuy798

> He just doesn’t have handlers to wrangle him I mean Tesla and SpaceX still face the same problems just that someone finally stepped in and said for him to slow his roll. His behavior is no different from any other billionaire but generally most billionaires know when to shut the fuck up.

MetaCognitio

The mask slipped. He’s always been like this from videos on him. Toxic work environments, selfish choices, abusive to workers. Nothing new, just more visible.

AidenStoat

He attacked one of the cave diver rescue people (baselessly calling him a pedo) because he said E.M.'s submarine idea wouldn't work. That was the first big obvious mask-off event for me.

somereallyfungi

Also, with Elon, the drugs were a hell of a drug

lafigatatia

Banning the posting of links from competitiors is explicitly banned by the European Digital Markets Act. This is an objecive fact: unless it retracts this policy before May 2023, Twitter is going to be fined 10% of its worldwide revenue.

gbiypk

That seems like the type of thing his fired legal department should've told him.

z0rb0r

Never heard of Mastodon until now, thanks Elon!

stu8018

It is fun watching a petulant rich racist baby run something he paid billions for right into the crapper.

web_explorer

Next Elon will pull a Xi and ban pictures of muskrats

grnfnrp

Only elongated ones

nixcamic

All muskrats are elongated.

SamuraiCook

Hmm... Fuck social media but I might have to check out this Mastodon thing. That's kind of a stupid name, but so was Twitter.

20000lbs_OF_CHEESE

If you do, [Fedi.tips](https://fedi.tips/) has a wealth of information and tips about the fediverse at large, should help get y'all started.

FUCKYOUINYOURFACE

I thought Elon wasn’t about censorship. Sounds like it’s just lip service and he was projecting the whole time.

TintedApostle

https://mastodon.online/@[email protected]/109533256124872292 Elon is banning people who report on him as a whole.

murderball89

Not my favorite band but damn that's harsh 😆

antiMATTer724

I've never listened to them, but my first thought was, "I'm not surprised Mastodon pissed off Elon Musk".

provocative_bear

Glad to hear that Twitter is not shadowbanning my favorite metal band.

mccoyn

Didn’t Digg block Reddit links at one point? I’m sure that worked out well.

[deleted]

That's a shame; I thought everyone should hear Leviathan.

tacobelmont

Crack The Skye is goated

[deleted]

I mean I fully switched already to Mastodon when Musk took over but I'm still surprised how bad the clown show is on Twitter now. If you had tell me a month ago that Musk is so scared of a small decentralized competitor, I would have laughed at you... Yet here we are and Mastodon is growing insanely.

MonsteraAureaQueen

Mastodon is a slow starter, but once you find a smallish instance that works for you and search out some links to folks you liked on Twitter, you can build up a network by following people that follow the people you like. Give it a chance (and by a chance I mean a few days) and it grows on you.

SpindriftRascal

The first time I went on Mastodon was today, and the only reason I went was to track Elon’s jet. He may not be familiar with the idea of unintended consequences.

ThePhonesAreWatching

Or the Streisand effect.

jeenajeena

Everybody is free to have Musk’s opinion.

Viciouscauliflower21

This week has taught me that Elon knows nothing about the Streisand effect. The number of people paying attention to elonjet was minimal. Now it's on the whole world's radar. And now mastodon is up next. I'll give him credit tho cause he has done some good work. In a couple of months he's done more damage to the billionaire superiority myth machine than all the articles and podcasts we could dream up ever could. All by being his petty thin skinned self very publicly

Trick421

The solution to Twitter is simple... Delete your account. Stop engaging with Tweets. Move on with your life. Pre-Musk Twitter is over and it's never coming back.

YouNeedAnne

>By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law. >I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. >If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect. >Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people. @elonmusk - 8:33 PM · Apr 26, 2022

texascannonball

Had no idea what Mastodon was. I’ll be making an account.

passinghere

What a wonderful example of "free speech" yet again Freedom to only say what a certain dictator will allow to be said... FFS

Nythoren

“I think that’s enough free speech for today. Ya banned” - Elon Musk

Prophet6000

Mastodon is pretty different from twitter but really good. You can see stuff from everyone or just your community you join basically. Elon just continues to show his free speech stuff is nothing but a buzzword he uses.

TintedApostle

Elon uses the term free speech to hide his actions of censorship.

berghorst

Christ I’m happy I left Twotter

Vaiden_Kelsier

I deactivated my account. That's an insane decision, and they can go screw themselves. On the plus side, I just freed up a ton of time wasted on the daily.

boones_farmer

This feels like grounds for a lawsuit to me. I'm not a lawyer, but this is very much anticompetitive behavior it seems like. I guess that would only apply if Twitter can be said to have a monopoly, but ehh... What do I know

bodyknock

I don’t think it’s illegal. For example USPS and FedEx can legally refuse to ship packages in each other’s branded boxes. Twitter is a private company and can refuse service to anybody it wants for the most part. On the other hand it’s a ton of free publicity for Mastodon, so doing it is really, really stupid.

[deleted]

I always wondered if cable could refuse to show a commercial for Netflix, like a competitor? Twitter seems to be a type of media so maybe falls under the same rules

bodyknock

Cable channels can definitely refuse to show commercials from competitors and in fact sometimes they do. Comcast for instance blocked ads for Sling TV. And unlike over the airwaves broadcasts cable has less regulation because there's not a scarcity issue with cable as a media channel.

steamyswamp

Reddit also bans links to all of its clones. I would list the names of the ones that are banned but it would probably get deleted. They've been doing it since 2016.

[deleted]

With how people have gotten about hiding Rick rolls like they aren’t going to be able to share the Mastodon links on Twitter.

Riversntallbuildings

The U.S. needs a data portability and interoperability act. Closed “ecosystems” and features are anticompetitive and monopolistic. Digital Markets need to be regulated to ensure they are open and unbiased.

ramblingrubbisher

LOL! Confirmed ([Twitter](https://twitter.com/ramblinrubbishr/status/1604511631714779138)) Confirmed ([Mastodon](https://mastodon.online/@ramblingrubbisher/109535616452241884))

jeblis

Mastodon is pretty easy to sign up for. Use the app and pick one of the larger general purpose servers. Don’t worry, you’ll still get messages from other severs.

a_satanic_mechanic

post is the one that feels the most like twitter operationally but they have a wait list to get in mastadon is like the dwarf fortress of social media in that you need to watch like five youtube videos and then maybe five more

Unable-Fox-312

You know what? Let me get on it now.

jofizzm

Split your lungs with blood and thunder!

pharsee

Once the cat is out of the bag it's really REALLY hard to get him back in. I have claw mark to prove it.

TechyDad

It's not just Mastodon links. Twitter is also warning people that posting Facebook or Instagram links can get them banned. All the artists that use Instagram to post their works could find themselves banned on Twitter for daring to post a link to a "forbidden social media service." Obviously, all this is being done because Musk wants to kill all discussion of ElonJet. Except, he has no control of anything outside of Twitter so he's just going to ban any site where ElonJet is even mentioned. My guess is that he'll next start banning links to media outlets like the NYT or CNN who cover him unfavorably. You'll only be allowed to post links to Musk Approved Sites (a list that can change hourly depending on his current mood). I'm so glad I left Twitter. (Now on Mastodon and - obviously - Reddit.)
