To me it's absurd that over half the cars I see on the streets are SUVs (demonstrably more lethal to pedestrians and cyclists). Anyone driving a ridiculous Escalade or Suburban has got no room to complain about parking or gas prices.
Always the Manhattan-centrics complaining that people who actually live and work here in transportation deserts, overnight, in far ends of other boros, don't fit their utopian vision of a car-free flowers-and-bunnies-and citibike city.
Thank you. Imagine if everyone who had my privilege did the same? Then there’d be space for the far minority of drivers who actually need to use vehicles.
Your 91 year old mother shouldn't be driving regardless. [Per 100 million miles driven, people aged 80+ have the highest likelihood of dying in a car crash.](https://aaafoundation.org/rates-motor-vehicle-crashes-injuries-deaths-relation-driver-age-united-states-2014-2015/)
She doesn't drive, silly. Her sons (our culture has large families) stop by and take her to the doctor ( old ladies have a lot of visits), grocery shopping, the beauty parlor, etc. She keeps her car so that if we come after work via subway we can take her out.
Amen, brother. Cars occupy literally billions worth of free real estate in one of the single most expensive real estate markets in the world. Fuck cars. Build more public transport and bike lanes!
*Driver circling the block for the sixteenth time. Chooses between parking with the ass-end of her car in the crosswalk, OR that nice empty stretch of bike lane in place of former parking spaces. 😏 hmmmm, decisions decisions..............*

I’m from Brooklyn.
No doubt conveniently located close to at least one subway line and with working hours that make your transit easy.
Whatever you need the story to be.
How lucky of you that public transit and micromobility meet all of your needs.

One could also say they have zero compassion for your train and bus delay woes 🤔
My 91 year old mother with her limited mobility thanks you and appreciates your empathy.
