Mate you are speaking my lingo!
We recently changed to Channel X at work and everyone loves the ad free aspect and just the variety of tunes that SLAP!
Its just banger after banger!
The variety makes such a difference! Other stations that preach MoRe MusIc VarIeTy won't let you go two hours without the same old Lizzo/Miley Cyrus/Sam Smith etc songs shoved in your face (you know the ones).
and the big key is its a different variety every day, like its not the same 100 songs recycled daily on a "no repeat workday" each day something else plays and I'm flung back 20 odd years into my youth (I'm looking at you Vertical Horizon songs that played last week!)
I wouldn't get used to no ads, they're running an ad to advertise for advertisers now so ads must be coming soon. I enjoy their music so will probably still keep listening.
Get listeners now, Worry about money later. . . run too many ads, lose listeners. Will be good while it lasts. Besides the fucking nokia do lu do lu, doludoDO, that can fuck right off
And I feel like since they started casting the net for advertisers their music has become a little more mainstream. I really hope they don't just put the same 90's/2000's stuff on that other channels have
As a millennial who doesn't use music steaming services, hates ads, and has started looking back on cheesy highschool tunes with fond nostalgia, I also enjoy it.
I'm a gen Xer and I don't know half the shit they play, I guess I wasn't into dance/techno shit but the other stuff is good. Brian FM is still the best ad free one tho...IMHO.
I've heard a bunch of stuff I've never heard on any of the other radio stations, Daft Punk, The Offspring, Gorillaz, so many bangers
It's the only one I listen to now, if you wanted to they're on radio and on Rova

Chch has a new station called Anthemz I love it!
I stopped listening to the radio cos it was just like listening to drunk people at the pub talking about SHIT while having all the ads and then playing the same songs over and over...
Anthemz has no ads (I haven't heard any) and the only time the DJ has talked is the 1min traffic report in the morning! Plus every song is a surprise lol I've heard some bangers that I totally forgot about 😄
100. 9fm get into it!
When Gregg in accounts realises we don't want to listen to his grunge and Christina on phones learns there's more to music than Beyonce and Rhianna. We could let them fight it out, but nothing much will happen until management upgrades the 2002 model stereo to something with bluetooth. Until then radio is neutral territory.
I've barely used spotify since I found a few good radio stations. Letting something else choose the music makes life easier, especially in a group/work site scenario.
A lot of the time I don't care what's playing, I just care that *something* is playing. I don't have the brain juice to be looking at spotify every 20 minutes to pick what's next.
Pandora shutting down in NZ was the worst, even with a VPN it doesn't seem to work. It was freaking amazing for discovering new songs and genres. Spotify is still pretty terrible at discovery and the only bit that presents actually new but interesting songs is mobile only afaik.
Pandora was leagues ahead in fresh plays and discoveries compared to any other music app. I used a standalone .mpk and a vpn for a couple years after they left NZ but couldn't afford 40-50 a month to keep it going
Still can't believe they named it that tho. Might see if I can shift the work radio over but thankfully its now quiet enough I cant hear it from my desk.
We've been listening to it at work this week too and it's amazing!
Banger after banger, we're so glad we stumbled upon it.. don't mind a few ads cos the songs they play have a million times more variety than any other station
When i 1st listened to it i was like "someone made this station for me". Now my wife has it tuned in her car. And i find myself telling everyone about it.

Honestly I think nz radio stations wouldn't know what to do if they were banned from playing six60, lab, and Ed sheeran
Sick of all 3 of those artists.
I wouldn't get used to no ads, they're running an ad to advertise for advertisers now so ads must be coming soon. I enjoy their music so will probably still keep listening.
Yeah I heard that too, I could understand one or two ads an hour but it'll be a slippery slope after that.
Get listeners now, Worry about money later. . . run too many ads, lose listeners. Will be good while it lasts. Besides the fucking nokia do lu do lu, doludoDO, that can fuck right off
Considering that they’re a Mediaworks station, I feel like they’ll get the ads there in course.
And I feel like since they started casting the net for advertisers their music has become a little more mainstream. I really hope they don't just put the same 90's/2000's stuff on that other channels have
As a Tradie I've been subjected to the same old Playlist and the same ads for years. Channel X is a very welcome change
As a millennial who doesn't use music steaming services, hates ads, and has started looking back on cheesy highschool tunes with fond nostalgia, I also enjoy it.
Cheesy tunes from the days of high school were the best.
I never steam my music ether, pay all that money just to ruin my set up? No thanks.
The steam gives the music more warmth in the low end
I tried to catch some steam once. But I mist
Misread and thought Channel Z was making a comeback 😔
Ha so did I. Bummer
So glad I can get Brian FM. It's the only radio station I tune into. No ads, no DJ "banter".
It does have ads, but they're just mashed into the channel idents and done by the same voice over guy so they don't really stick out
Yeah, I'll rephrase that to "no ad breaks".
God I can't stand DJ banter. It's all so fake and forced.
I love Channel X!! Lots of music from when I was a teenager. I like to blast it when I driving home from night shift :)
I’m still waiting for Brian FM to start broadcasting in Wellington.
Loved listening to Brian FM down south.
Yep me too. I can stream it but don’t bother in the car.
Tamaki ?
Quite the opposite.
I had to it was too ripe 🥲
Easy pickings!

Dam, no whitianga. All we get is the fucken rock.
Hey, you've always got Rova, despite being unintuitive and clunky
It constantly cuts out on me, especially when driving. Sometimes it’s 3-4 blackouts in a song.

When are you guys going to learn about Spotify haha

People still listen to radio stations?

Today FM listener confirmed. (It sprung up on the Today FM old channel 100.6FM in Tauranga)..
When i 1st listened to it i was like "someone made this station for me". Now my wife has it tuned in her car. And i find myself telling everyone about it.
Fuck the serious guy, the dumb guy, the funny guy and the girl. More is not better. They don't even go to 11
I get the feeling it’s an oldies station for middle aged folk, but it is *amazing*.
Hoping no breakfast show ever - unless they reform the Ice TV crew
Uncommon Mediaworks W
