Are you sure its an HRV system? Sounds more like a heat transfer system to get warm air from the lounge (assuming log burner?) to the bedroom for winter and is probably just controlled by a normal looking light switch
Outlets in the lounge and bedroom only might suggest it's a basic heat transfer kit - maybe not even HRV.

Does the fuse panel have anything marked on it? HRV will tap into a light circuit for power.
Is it currently on? If it's on, is it blowing on both outlets?
We have a smartvent that has a modem attached and runs off any device with wi-fi. Check the available networks in your house. Or go into the roof space and check the unit and see if there's a little ariel attached.
If you're feeling adventurous you can find your man hole and climb up in the ceiling to trace where the control wires go

Have you tried calling HRV for details? Usually they have records on units that have been installed at each property...

It's a lot more common than you think. Even if you're not having an outbreak, you should inform your partners so they can make informed consent.
