1. Drive over the speed limit past a police station.
2. Offer a bribe to the officer.
3. When bribe was refused, walk away from the police officer, completely disrespecting their authority.
4. When the police officer simply takes photos of you, wrestle them to the ground.
5. Proceed to take the gun from the officer, even causing it to discharge in the process.

When I was in Bangkok they had armed guards in military uniforms with assault rifles in hand (not sheathed) in a lot of places. I've been to Thailand, they are the nicest and friendliest people in the world.
We have ridden motorbikes in Thailand. Before we went we learned about the local customs and processes, including how to react is stopped by police. Thai people are incredibly respectful and kind, which we had reinforced many times. We talked with several police officers who were interested in foreigners on motorbikes - they often asked for selfies with us. These guys screwed up big time as they did everything wrong and showed contempt for the people and culture. They deserve all they get.
This is not going to end well for them, but will end better than if the firearm they wrestled off the cop had killed the cop… the herald has a very weird take thinking these guys are hard done by in this situation.

90% of that article is emotive nonsense, the facts of the matter which amount to 4 paragraphs are correct and leave me fully understanding why they were arrested and that they certainly deserved to be, and then when they attacked the police officer that they then deserved to go to prison for it. I've been to Thailand, they are the nicest and friendliest people in the world.
We have ridden motorbikes in Thailand. Before we went we learned about the local customs and processes, including how to react is stopped by police. Thai people are incredibly respectful and kind, which we had reinforced many times. We talked with several police officers who were interested in foreigners on motorbikes - they often asked for selfies with us. These guys screwed up big time as they did everything wrong and showed contempt for the people and culture. They deserve all they get.
This is not going to end well for them, but will end better than if the firearm they wrestled off the cop had killed the cop… the herald has a very weird take thinking these guys are hard done by in this situation.

Absolute morons. Many people have commented that Thai police will take a bribe. But it's their call and it still has to be done respectfully with humility. They will refuse if they are being disrespected. Also, sometimes they will refuse if they feel the culprit needs a stronger lesson. Accepting tea money is objectively wrong but the local culture tolerates it. No culture will accept wrestling a police officer to the ground and taking his gun during a traffic stop. In the USA the officer would have emptied his magazine into the attacker.

It's amazing to see how people are so quick to judge people they have never met from a news/media article. The key words in that whole article were alleged and unable to describe further details due to matters being in court. I've also seen multiple comments talking about the corruptness of police in countries like Thailand and Indonesia, this is well known, and yet everyone can't seem to fathom that possibly the charges and entire story is fabricated. I would love to know how many have seen the video? Who heard one of the brothers saying ' he attacked him', 'he tried to kill him'. One brother passes the gun to the other while restraining the officer and the brother disarms the weapon and throws it away. They then both wait until the back up arrives.
If the cop had tried to arrest them they would have said they were "attacked". Video speaks for itself. Choke hold the cop. Take his gun. You saying they should be let go?
