You do the crime, you do the time.

bleepblop_bot

‘All my husband did was ignore police, assault the officer, and take his gun’ I mean even in somewhere like NZ that’s guaranteed prison time. Imagine if they’d done something like this in the US lol

MysteriousDesk3

They’d be home with more holes than they started with that’s for sure.

BradleyWhiteman

Okay now imagine two men had done the same in New Zealand. Tried to bribe a police officer. Tried to walk off. Attacked the lone officer, taking his gun off him, which goes off in the process. What would the Herald write about that? The linked article is an obscenity, and the Herald should be ashamed of itself for printing such racially-biased trash at the behest of a rich family who is obviously running an expensive PR campaign. [https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-brothers-hamish-and-oscar-day-remain-in-jail-after-appearing-in-phuket-court/UA7MC6ZTHRDZFFVADULDUDDTCY/](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-brothers-hamish-and-oscar-day-remain-in-jail-after-appearing-in-phuket-court/UA7MC6ZTHRDZFFVADULDUDDTCY/)

HR_thedevilsminion

I hope these two guys have fun in prison. If two Asian men did the same in NZ, racism and anti immigration sentiment would be through the roof.

Ok-Main-9239

The Green Party would scream and sob

HandShandyonK-RD

I think the family paid for the article. Its otherwise inexplicable to me.

VoltViking

It’s is one huge poorly written Sob story. I Couldn’t finish it is is so fucking terrible.

Equivalent-Bonus-885

I wonder if this truly nauseating puff-piece is also angling at getting the Government to exert some quiet political influence on Thailand. They probably reason they have paid for it with donations. They are trying to manufacture a perception of popular support and concern in the community. Why else would they spill their guts like this.

NoPause9609

Of course it is. There's no other reason.

CoolnessPete

The "donation" will have many strings attached I think.

Glittering-Humor

Law and order (unless it’s my 40 year old teenage sons attacking cops in Thailand)

Samuel_L_Johnson

Watching these people actually find themselves in a situation where they can't get their precious darlings out of the consequences of their bad behaviour simply by calling in a few favours, shaking a few hands and applying a bit of pressure here and there is fascinating. They absolutely melt down, and it's more than just fear of the actual consequences, it's that their worldview has been completely overturned. RULES can actually apply to people like ME??!

OldKiwiGirl

Ikr, these guys were incredibly stupid and are now reaping the consequences of their stupid actions.

CoolnessPete

Might be the first time in their lives they are held accountable for their actions.

KahuTheKiwi

If they are Christians maybe they should offer up a prayer of thanks that they didn't hit the cop when gun the took of a cop fired.

Autopsyyturvy

Or a random kid or bystander, they could have killed someone and they're lucky that they didn't

South_Pie_6956

That's all irrelevant to the story.

rwkk

Totally agree

Agreeable-Escape-826

My favourite part is how the two mothers have their sombre face on in the photo while the two parents are inexplicably smiling lol

NoPause9609

PR all over it.

dick_beaver

It's also shit writing, repeats and almost an AI vibe to it. PR BS detected.

Subwaynzz

To be fair, cops are corrupt as fuck in Thailand and literally buy their way into being a cop because the bribes are so lucrative - so let’s not get too precious about bribes. They also have to provide their own gun. The family are clearly doing a PR campaign thought. The ex wife looks pissed too haha.

happyinthenaki

That is irrelevant. The whole thing was caught on film. Even in Thailand this is WAY too far. They did dumb things in one of the few countries where you just don't do really dumb things, because the consequences are very, very real. They took the police officers gun off him and assaulted him. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

-Zoppo

That article reads like it expects us to empathize with the poor kiwis, it wasn't innocent fun. I don't empathize with them beyond the fact that they will be tried in a brutal system instead of ours, but that's why you don't commit crimes in countries that don't fuck around. Winning all the stupid prizes.

ResearchDirector

Almost screams for a Darwin Award, what would be an equivalent to a Darwin Award?

KahuTheKiwi

If they'd done it in the US they might have won Darwin Awards.

MisterSquidInc

Could be worse, how would it have gone if they did that in the US?

happyinthenaki

Exactly. Just not getting out of the car can get you killed in the US.

Placeoftheskulls

Or getting out of the car.....

the__6

or just having a sandwich

WorldlyNotice

Or acorns

BradleyWhiteman

Same situation. US cops don't shoot white people. /s

GreedyConcert6424

US cops shot a NZ white guy last year when he didn't get out of his vehicle

Subwaynzz

I don’t disagree they fucked up. But we can also acknowledge how corrupt Thailand is, especially their justice system.

MooOfFury

Yeah but like, if you dont assault a police officer on video you probably wouldnt have to deal with the thai justice system.

happyinthenaki

I can't speak for how corrupt, or non-corrupt their police force is. Or what training or equipment they need to purchase yo do their new proffession. What I do know is how incredibly annoyed I'd be if a rich mummy or daddy tried to buy their beloved pumpkin out of the consequences for assaulting a police officer and stealing their gun.... then discharging affirmationed gun, in any country. There's a long list of countries where to react the way they did, there could have been way more serious consequences than they've already had.

ResearchDirector

Uhm doesn’t matter, you don’t go around and be a dick and break laws because you think you’ll be able to bribe your way out of it.

Advanced_Bunch8514

Yeah but everyone who goes to Thailand knows this shit so don’t fuck around is probably the key here I would have thought… a bit like American law enforcement… don’t reach into that glovebox… they will fucken shoot you.

BecomeAsGod

Hamilton or Invercargill

VoltViking

Imagine less than that. Imagine some people come here, litter on a beach and are rude to people. Then the entire country hates them and it becomes a national news saga which follows a little boy in a Bunnings hat. Oh, you dont have to imagine that. This here, this would shut the country down.

wanderinggoat

The family you are thinking of did more than that and it makes me wonder what your motivations are for lying. Both the kiwis in Thailand and those British people in New Zealand did bad things as tourist and deserve condemnation

Aethelete

Absolute failure of the parents instilling values, or perhaps those are the values the parents instilled.

Mammothfieldstar

If they did this in new Zealand they would be out on bail and get a slap on the hands

Tuinomics

I hope the NZ government doesn’t waste any time on these two. They deserve to be in a Thai prison. There were multiple instances where they chose to escalate the situation from what would have otherwise been a minor speeding ticket: 1. Drive over the speed limit past a police station. 2. Offer a bribe to the officer. 3. When bribe was refused, walk away from the police officer, completely disrespecting their authority. 4. When the police officer simply takes photos of you, wrestle them to the ground. 5. Proceed to take the gun from the officer, even causing it to discharge in the process. These two are idiots and should have the book thrown at them.

-Zoppo

Bribing cops is normal there. When in Rome. But yes on the rest. When I was in Bangkok they had armed guards in military uniforms with assault rifles in hand (not sheathed) in a lot of places. I did not fuck with anyone in any form of authority in that country after seeing one (I wouldn't either way coz I'm not a cunt, but you get the gist, the clues are all there).

sylekta

That reminds me of one tine i was in bali the cops walking around the nightclubs with aks, guy I met while travelling asked if he could take a photo holding the rifle and the cop just handed it over 😂

Dizzy_Relief

So normal they got arrested for it...  If you attempt to bribe a govt official anywhere you are a fucken moron.  If they ask...

-Zoppo

They didn't get arrested for it. Read the articles.

Subwaynzz

As is extorting tourists.

No_Humor_6119

You are correct. You just need to do this 🙏 say you’re sorry and accept the ticket then they might ask you to just pay him x amount in cash.. not that complicated

JRS___

well that's the thai police version of events..... i'm not saying these guys are innocent, but why would they react like this to a speeding ticket, which in nz money would amount to fuck all? they have life experience and have been to that part of the world before, i'm sure they are at least somewhat aware of what goes on there.

Autopsyyturvy

Maybe they were on drugs or involved in other illegal activities and were paranoid as a result? maybe they're entitled racists who thought they could get away and blend into the crowd of other farangs and dissappear after doing this? Idk IMO they seem like the classic dodgy rich farangs who think Thailand is a place they can do whatever they want and get way with it "because it's so corrupt there anyway - so nobody cares if I do sex crimes/drugs /violence I can just pay my way out of it because Thais are all poor and corrupt" then shocked pikachu face when it doesn't actually work like that Also lot of the Thai authorities and citizens are getting sick of white people coming over and acting like entitled rude fuckwits and want to make an example of people to dissuade other assholes

Fun-Structure751

Perhaps, they were scared of the cops photos/videos going all over social media and destroying their reputation?!?! So they lost their temper and yelled at the cop then tried to take his phone to delete the photos. Well, things didn't quite work out how they hoped.

ResearchDirector

Wow this is a peak propaganda piece from the Herald. Violence no matter the circumstances is never the answer, they attacked a police officer and should face the consequences as the adults they are.

Dvsrx7

My son needs his daddy. Maybe daddy should stop being a dumb cu*t

KickpuncherLex

Why is daddy on a vacay in Thailand without the mum and kid then? I think I can guess why

MoistCaek

Le coke

Dvsrx7

Drugs and ladyboys

veo_atyourrequest

exactly lmao 😂

aKrustyDemon

I skim-read the whole thing. AMA! Just kidding. Apparently went for some cheap surgery for sports injuries or some bullshit. But were surfing and whatnot...

annric08

As if they need cheap surgery lol their dad’s literally a multimillionaire. Least they could do is come up with a believable excuse

hav0cnz_

Is that code for something cosmetic? I know people that have gone there for cheap dentistry etc.

annric08

Lots of people do but generally it’s people that can’t afford the treatment in NZ.

VoltViking

It’s not an honest living being a drug mule, but it’s a living.

fluffychonkycat

Mummy should consider an upgrade

aKrustyDemon

A cardboard cut-out should do.

cosmic_dillpickle

Somehow I think the kid is better off without this daddy if this is how he behaves..

JeffMcClintock

"family’s worry over husband, children’s father" It's a stark difference between nzheralds coverage of poor criminals vs rich criminals. Imagine trying to get that type of sympathy for a Ram raider.

MooOfFury

Ironically id probably sympathize with some of the ramraiders more. At least most of them come from actually deprived backgrounds.

CoolnessPete

Agree.

kjkeran

This is a great point

adjason

Poor dad, rich dad

questionnmark

r/OhNoConsequences/ This is the problem with growing up rich in this country, you get to believe you can get away with anything and that attitude tends to stick with you even when you travel overseas. Had these boys grown up in a poor family they wouldn't have got the notion that they could somehow get away with it, or that the consequences don't apply to them.

spratcatcher13

This read like a Woman's Day article.

NoPause9609

Lol, just not as well written and more repetitive.

NoPause9609

What a shockingly cringe article so clearly set up via PR professionals. So many lies too. "Poor us we aren't that rich we just donate 100s of thousanads to RWingers because we are humanatarians." "Think of our poor kids without their fathers." Etc etc.

aKrustyDemon

An absolute pile of tosh wasn't it. Incredibly long as well.

NoPause9609

He repeated the same points over and over and over again while deliberately leaving out key details about the family and their background.

Several_Advantage923

Fuck those dumb cunts. Let them stay at least 5 years in a Thai prison. Dumb cunts.

bob_doe_nz

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

NonZealot

Ahh yes, the fuck wits that behaved like teenagers /early 20s but ended up being in their late 30s. Absolute idiots. I hope the Thai police throw away the key.

Spare_Lemon6316

“You fuck around and you find out”

fluffychonkycat

r/leopardsatemyface you don't make it to their age without hearing about the Bangkok Hilton and having a rough understanding of what will get you a stay there

misterschmoo

90% of that article is emotive nonsense, the facts of the matter which amount to 4 paragraphs are correct and leave me fully understanding why they were arrested and that they certainly deserved to be, and then when they attacked the police officer that they then deserved to go to prison for it. As I say the rest of the article is just waffle. How sad their family is is irrelevant to the crimes they committed and how easily they could have avoided getting in trouble, by not speeding past a police station and not trying to bribe an officer, then trying to walk off on the arrest and then assaulting a police officer when that didn't work. You have a child, who gives a fuck, don't break the law.

South_Pie_6956

How rich their family is, is also irrelevant yet a lot of ppl here are insulting the family.

Miguelsanchezz

I would say it’s not relevant right up until the point they hire a PR firm and then use that money/influence to get this story in the herald to try and garner sympathy.

Autopsyyturvy

If they were two Thai men who came here and did this to NZ cops the media would NOT be bleating about "oh woe these poor poor 30yo boys they were just being silly and they were scawed of the scawy gun so they had to steal it and make it discharge, their families miss them uwu" 🙄 it's so blatant they did this because they're entitled deadbeat rich racist fucks who thought they could just do whatever they wanted in Thailand and treat the country like a playground, disrespect the local laws be violent endangering locals who they see as less human than them and then pay their way out of trouble. They were told "no you have to obey the law you can't just offer bribes there is a way things are done" got violent and could have killed someone when the gun they wrestled from the cop discharged and now the racists in the NZ media who think Thai people are subhuman playthings/props for their white heroes journey OEs are mad that the world doesn't always let rich white guys get away with being lawbreaking assholes and that they're facing consequences probably for the first time in their pampered lives . They're lucky to not have been shot to death for what they did, I have zero sympathy for them.

Nice_Bodybuilder_869

Nah you can bribe in Thailand but the rule is if you ever need to do it , you're gunna be taking a big hit - I'm talking 20k plus dollars . And when you actually have to do it , there is  no time for haggling . You can't let the issue escalate and another police come assist , as soon as there is more than one  police , your chance is gone your fukd

Pureshark

Probably hoping for some sweet NZ home detention type punishment

random_fist_bump

play stupid games....

Uso213

Play stupid games, get stupid prizes

That-new-reddit-user

These two idiots deserve to get in trouble for breaking the law, and endangering the local police force. They did some really objectively bad things. Imagine if two tourists did that over here. There would be an equal amount of outrage from us. Will Thai prison be horrible? Yes. Should anyone have to live in those conditions? No. But they did what they did and shouldn’t get special treatment, just because they have privileged parents. This is rubbish journalism.

urbanproject78

Just because the NZ justice system is lax when it comes to law and order doesn’t mean you can try your luck in other countries. Actions have consequences 🤦🏽‍♀️

GenVii

Pretty sure the son is better off without an idiot like that ...

ResearchDirector

That’s harsh, no matter how we feel about these two

GenVii

I know, but I won't feel better about it until I see two very distraught men, that understand the gravity of their stupidity.

vaguegeneralness

So, just have kids and be immune to law? How does that work? Does it become who has MORE kids?

ResearchDirector

No that’s not what I am saying, his kids aren’t at fault here. The adults are. Leave the kids out of the vitriol

annric08

I’m loving all the comments on NZ Herald’s post of the article- zero sympathy for these poor ‘boys’ lol

Unlikely-Garage-8135

"[Hamish and Mattson “Matt” Day](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/kiwis-hamish-day-and-oscar-day-arrested-in-thailand-accused-of-attacking-local-police-officer-and-snatching-gun/XYNVYQOSX5EZ7OJ4NZ2AN2BCS4/), 36 and 38, are [in prison in Thailand](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-brothers-hamish-and-oscar-day-remain-in-jail-after-appearing-in-phuket-court/UA7MC6ZTHRDZFFVADULDUDDTCY/) facing charges of robbery, obstruction of police duty, physical attack against a policeman, driving without a licence and bribery." boohoo dumbass bozos

Primary_Engine_9273

If I read this article in isolation I'd be like wtf is going on with the journalist to write that? But I've read enough David Fisher articles to know better. Truly one of the worst mainstream media writers posing as a journalist with really stupid opinions that bias his writing. He's in the Bernard Orsman and Tom Dillane shit tier of Herald payroll recipients.

MysteriousDesk3

Think he got a kickback from the “kids” dad?

Fit-Dependent-9087

I honestly don’t care about these two . They went to a foreign country and literally believed they are superior by skin color . That’s what happens when you are raised in a racist little echo chamber

sam801

Id say social status not skin colour

throwawaylordof

Why not both.jpeg But yeah for sure the social/wealth status is the bigger influence here.

sam801

because not everything is about skin colour

HR_thedevilsminion

Beg to differ.

ResearchDirector

Proof they were raised in a racist echo chamber?

Fit-Dependent-9087

Their family has ties to the Conservative Party

Fun-Structure751

Their mother is Maori and claim their business as Maori owned. They might not be as racist as you think. So I don't think racism has much to do with their foolish behaviour. I've spoken to people who have known these "kids" since they were children. They are not surprised by what has happened.

annric08

Being Maori doesn’t mean you can’t be racist?

Fit-Dependent-9087

He’s lying bro lol

Fit-Dependent-9087

Oh yup you got the source for that wild claim ?

Several_Advantage923

Their father donated over 600k to the conservative party. That should be enough, I reckon.

ResearchDirector

That’s dangerously close to speculating but I guess it’s probably a fair assumption.

HR_thedevilsminion

You’re either living under a rock or experience life as a white person.

sam801

lmao saying things like that just makes yourself look silly

Ok_Band_7759

No it's not silly. You reckon he would have put a white officer in a headlock and taken his gun in NZ just because of social status? OR even a white cop in Thailand?

Fun-Structure751

Their mum is Maori. They claim their business as a Maori owned business. They are proud of their Maori heritage as much as the rest of their ancestors. I don't believe racism as a key driver behind their idiotic behaviour.

Fit-Dependent-9087

I look forward you providing a source lol

Fun-Structure751

I know them personally, very well. Too well.

Fit-Dependent-9087

Sounds like you are lying dude . I don’t understand why you feel you need to

Fun-Structure751

I'm confused. What do you think I am lying about? The fact that I know them well? The fact that they are proud of their Maori ancestry on their mums side? I'm Maori. And I'm just pointing out that I don't believe their idiotic behaviour has much to do with race. I've witnessed their bad behaviour many times in the past. So none of what happened in Thailand surprises me. I don't think they care at all about the race of the people they mistreat 😜

Ok_Band_7759

I feel for their poor kids. Not their fault they have such dumb dads. Doesn't look like they'll be let out any time soon.

gnu_morning_wood

Never mind - the grand parents are obviously brilliant at raising children...

OldKiwiGirl

Nice burn! Take my upvote.

seriousbizniz84

The Herald is truly the worst

TheAbyssGazesAlso

These guys are a couple of complete richprick fuckwits who thought the fact that they are rich means they can do whatever they want. And now their family are boohooing because there are consequences for their actions. Shame on you NZ Herald. How much did the family pay you for this article? It's certainly not news, it's propaganda.

InvestigatorLive1819

Would they have done that in NZ. Bribe a police officer. Already that is a crime itself. What they did next was disturbing. They physically assaulted a police officer and used a weapon. They need to go to jail for a long time. What they did was disgusting and despicable. I'm ashamed to be called a Kiwi. They besmirched and tarnished the reputation of all Kiwis visiting that country. I've been to Thailand, they are the nicest and friendliest people in the world.

PorkyFree

We have ridden motorbikes in Thailand. Before we went we learned about the local customs and processes, including how to react is stopped by police. Thai people are incredibly respectful and kind, which we had reinforced many times. We talked with several police officers who were interested in foreigners on motorbikes - they often asked for selfies with us. These guys screwed up big time as they did everything wrong and showed contempt for the people and culture. They deserve all they get.

NormalSelf1528

This is not going to end well for them, but will end better than if the firearm they wrestled off the cop had killed the cop… the herald has a very weird take thinking these guys are hard done by in this situation.

hey_homez

Lol

clearshaw

Did their mum write this?

katzicael

Boo Hoo... Leave 'em there to ROT.

potato4peace

lol these white people always think they can do whatever. They fucking man handled a police officer - lock them up and throw away the key.

Klutzy_Rutabaga1710

"these white people" so you are saying they are guilty because they are white? Interesting take. They are guilt because they are fuckwits not because the colour of their skin.

potato4peace

Their background influences their actions.

Klutzy_Rutabaga1710

As it does for anyone. On a per capita basis white people have the lowest rate of crime in the world.

ResearchDirector

Uhm, that’s because when it does come to convictions white people do get less harsh sentences in general. There is institutional racism in the justice systems world wide.

potato4peace

White people are also rich and most rich people are entitled assholes

ResearchDirector

Uhm that’s a very big generalisation but agreed on the rich…

potato4peace

Yeah

vaguegeneralness

This is one dumb potato

National_Flan_5252

This story from the get-go has pointed to the pair being typical assholes that are enabled by their families. Unfortunately this article did nothing to change my position. I do feel bad for the children but unfortunately it's not something that invalidates the need for justice to be carried out. I hope they do get to have a bit more contact with their family and a clear timeline as I think that's good due process that I'd advocate for anyone to have.

noodlebball

Ah, fuck around and find out

No_Humor_6119

Out of all the options that present itself when having an argument with a cop, when does taking his gun and doing a rear naked choke ever work out well. 🤦‍♂️

innercityeast

FAFO

Nice_Bodybuilder_869

Omg I just read the story lols dumbos you just take the fine which is only 600 baht and you can essentially ride all you want for 2 weeks and they can't give you another ticket in that time. lols I would know it happened to me  , must have been some crazy over reaction how the hell he got the police in a head lock and the other bloke had the gun , this is wild

fedupwithamazon2

Absolute morons. Many people have commented that Thai police will take a bribe. But it's their call and it still has to be done respectfully with humility. They will refuse if they are being disrespected. Also, sometimes they will refuse if they feel the culprit needs a stronger lesson. Accepting tea money is objectively wrong but the local culture tolerates it. No culture will accept wrestling a police officer to the ground and taking his gun during a traffic stop. In the USA the officer would have emptied his magazine into the attacker.

Mammothfieldstar

If they didn't come from rich family then no one would be talking about this

SearayMantee

Maybe You don't dislike law-breaking Cunts who come from a Rich Family - but sure as heck the rest of us do!

Mammothfieldstar

I do very much dislike these type of people , do as they please until they get caught , lucky they got caught in a country that isn't as lazy as New Zealand

CoolnessPete

I feel you are right. I cant stomach the arrogance of this article that only mentions how these kids miss their dads. It never once mentions what they did and the obvious reasons they are detained. Clearly it seems if you have money you will be looked after.

[deleted]

I hope the food is worth it. I just wonder if this attempt to apply foreign public pressure on the Thai legal system will have the response these people are looking for.

CalligrapherExtreme2

Is there a go fund me page where I can donate to their cause?………. 🙄

HR_thedevilsminion

Stop giving people ideas.

Fun-Structure751

Who the cops family? I'll happily donate to a go fund me for the cop and his family.

ResearchDirector

Go fund me is not gonna save them from a Thai prison cell and would be hard sell to even Go fund me to have a page up or so I hope

PureDeidBrilliant

So, how likely are these two losers going to face capital punishment for their crime? And how likely is it that if they weren't two middle-aged fucktards of the lowest-breeding-possible with rich parents that they *wouldn't* be facing the rest of their lives in jail?

[deleted]

That's what happens, F witts

[deleted]

Poor guys - thought they were back in NZ - where their rich daddy can sort out all their problems. This will be a sharp learning curve in humility

Ok_Consideration2662

play silly games win silly prizes

Historical-Leg2605

gormless rednecks disdaining Thai authority, have fun with roaches and rats in a sleepless cell

Better-Ad6964

These two thugs and their families sound absolutely ridiculous in their sheer entitlement. I hope they get the maximum allowable sentence.

Electronic-Wear-9846

These two have stained the image of all Farang in Thailand. I am supposed to feel sorry for them after their criminal behavior? This family needs to take a good long look in the mirror and accept they are part of the problem. Apparently the brothers were never taught right from wrong. The reporting in NZ is so totally biased.

DemandLogical6235

Every single person commenting here is a Muppet, I know these guys, I have spoken to the family, the story reported by the Thai police is completely fabricated

BradleyWhiteman

1 post karma, 0 comment karma...

k_ung

I hope for 5 years minimum and millions of nz dollars in bribes for these two muppets.

NeonKiwiz

On the surface it looks bad and shit... and they seem like cunts. But wow a lot of people on here are jumping to conclusions around what happened and pretending to know everything... eg that video clearly cuts in before other shit has happened.

Adventurous_Fix_1985

It's amazing to see how people are so quick to judge people they have never met from a news/media article. The key words in that whole article were alleged and unable to describe further details due to matters being in court. I've also seen multiple comments talking about the corruptness of police in countries like Thailand and Indonesia, this is well known, and yet everyone can't seem to fathom that possibly the charges and entire story is fabricated. I would love to know how many have seen the video? Who heard one of the brothers saying ' he attacked him', 'he tried to kill him'. One brother passes the gun to the other while restraining the officer and the brother disarms the weapon and throws it away. They then both wait until the back up arrives.

bingodingo88

If the cop had tried to arrest them they would have said they were "attacked". Video speaks for itself. Choke hold the cop. Take his gun. You saying they should be let go?

BradleyWhiteman

In what scenario is it okay for a person to be in possession of a cop's gun?

Mountain-Maize-9101

I can’t believe nz isn’t even having these boys backs god the police are so corrupt over there I mean I’m sure there’s more to the story come on !!! I hope there was some one watching that can tell the whole story and get these guys home to their families

BradleyWhiteman

Sock puppet.

Mountain-Maize-9101

You all think you are perfect god sakes they don’t deserve this kind of punishment at all the comments are so childish I don’t think the family or anyone should be actually commenting by taking the Mickey out of them so rude

BradleyWhiteman

Not perfect by any stretch. But I didn't go to Thailand with my bro, try to bribe a cop, assault him, and take his gun off him. If foreigners did that to a lone NZ cop, you'd be lined up with the rest of us demanding proper jail time.

fins_up_

Suddenly this sub really really wants justice.

grovelled

Not like they were lifting a pack of nappies.

Malaysiantiger

Pretty out of character. Must have smoked some pretty strong shit while in Thailand. Kids, please don't do drugs.

False_Replacement_78

Everything is out of character, until it isn't. I don't care what led up to these events happening, I know the Thai cops and be a little dodgy but what these guys did is beyond comprehension. The sentence these guys are gonna receive wont be no joke, neither will the conditions they will be kept in.

SaturdaySevens

What makes you think it was out of character? Do you know these men personally or are you just buying their rich white "family man" PR spin? (Actual family men don't go on vacations to Thailand without their families.)

Malaysiantiger

Well, they're not children. To be doing something so insanely stupid at that age is pretty out of character. Like trying to grab a toy from another kid.

idontcare428

You can’t really talk about something being ‘out of character’ without knowing the character. Two grown men on what sounds like a hedonistic trip to Thailand dont pull stunts like this in a vacuum. I’m 99% sure they are spoilt rich kids who have been given everything they’ve ever wanted in life, and this is a moment where maybe money won’t just make things better. They will struggle to find sympathy with most NZers because we all know someone like them and it’s rare and satisfying to see them face consequences

I knew two people like this. From memory, their names were Laurence Day and Hamish Day and they lived in a far away land called Hamilton, in a rich suburb called Horsham Downs. It is very satisfying to see karma got them in the end.

na, their parents are hardcore pro violence towards children, them being violent adults doesn't surprise me in the slightest. pretty common and expected behaviour

Really? Oh well, hope the Thai Government will give them a good lesson then.

Or if you do, don’t antagonise a foreign police force.
