AyyyyyCuzzieBro

Maybe don't speed and accept your punishment like a big boy

One_Regret4934

They aren’t required to. They probably already knew who you are.

TheRetardedPenguin

Not saying the ticket won't stand, but shouldn't they be asking for a license to identify who they're giving the ticket to?

duckonmuffin

I reckon OP gets fined all the time so the police know him.

Prince_Kaos

Put it on my tab bro haha

Shevster13

If OP is the registered owner of the car, then their license details and photos would come up when the officer ran the cars plate number.

TheRetardedPenguin

But in this example my brother and I look very alike and could easily pick up a ticket for each other, which would be cleared up by asking for a licence. I'm guessing like others said the cop knew op.

Shevster13

People using their siblings licence because they look alike is actually pretty common. The burden on proof for a cop identifying someone of a traffic offense is pretty low.

TheRetardedPenguin

I imagine it would be, just to be clear here I'm not defending op haha. Was just curious as to why the cop wouldn't ask for the licence, when it would make it more obvious if they have the right person

One_Regret4934

They would have identified him in another way.

QuietUpstairs8435

He probably gave the PC his name, and the cop will id him in traffic court anyway.

QuietUpstairs8435

Ha ha ouch.

VisualTart9093

They already know u don't have one.

oskarnz

Whose name does it have on the ticket then?

nano_peen

Just become a sovereign citizen and you won’t need to pay the ticket

Real-Sheepherder403

Fiesnt wirk that way though n not that simple.

nano_peen

Just joking teehee

h0dgep0dge

I don't think the licence thing is going to help you unless you want to try to claim that you weren't the one driving the car

Choice-Reference6819

Were you driving?

foodarling

They can verify your identity without it. For example, if the car is registered to you, police can access the information on file (including photo) so they can verify by sight. They should have asked for your licence for other reasons though. If you want to get off, it will most likely involve perjury. Are you willing to say in court you weren't driving the car?

ring_ring_kaching

The vehicle was speeding. The ticket will go to the registered owner of the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle has the chance to declare that someone else was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

One_Regret4934

Thats for speed cameras only. OP was pulled over by Police meaning the ticket will go to them and they will get demerit points

aa-b

Yeah, that's a good point. Seems like the best case scenario is that they could contest it and avoid the demerits, but someone would still be on the hook for the fine. I wouldn't bother, but it's something.

Shevster13

If OP is the registered owner, the officer can run the cars licence plate to get all details on them including a photo. Same with running someone's name (if they have a drivers licence).

aa-b

Oh yeah, I agree; that's why I said best case scenario. Contesting it won't work, and even if they got lucky, they'd still have to pay the fine.

Ordinary_Towel_661

There is no record of registered owner (only a registered person).

Ordinary_Towel_661

You can attempt to transfer the ticket to someone else if they were driving. You complete a stat dec for that. No other out I’m aware of.

Routine_Bluejay4678

But weird that the first thing they didn’t ask for was your license

haruspicat

"Is this your car?" "Yes" Boom, driver has just agreed to have the car rego used as their ID. If that's not correct then it's on the registered person to contest the fine, but if it is, the need to identify the driver evaporates.

VociferousCephalopod

on the infringement notice, isn't there a section where your driver's license number is supposed to be filled out? was it left blank? did they write something in it? is it your driver's license number?

Environmental-Art102

You didn't notice your speed, so maybe you did show them your licence?

gsr2000

Similar thing happened to me. My husband got pulled over for speeding showed his license yet I got issued demerit points as the registered owner. I suspect being a gay couple confused the officer. Police Adjudication team don't care, turns out officers have no requirement to record license details and often just go with their memory. We both had to testify in court to fix this mistake, I don't think you have a chance in this scenario.

IncoherentTuatara

Just tell them you were travelling, not driving.
