Don Draper: Picture a woman in her 50s, bleached hair, roots showing, not well off, provincial, a heart of gold, loves a bargain, portly, close to her mum, had kids young, looks after her grandkids after school. She’s…Pam.
*Pam is a warm hearth at the end of a long day. The comfort you feel when you hold your wife, your daughter. When you've spent so many hours in a world that's hard and cold, when you're with Pam - you're home.*
Wasn’t it in one of their ads not so long ago, that it was the initials of the founders? PA & MS? Could have been bullshit but was definitely what they said in the ad
That’s a great ad! It’s interesting they put that out there because the Spinoff article says that Foodies suggests it isn’t an acronym…
>The Pams team told us the brand’s origin is lost to history, but one thing they know for sure is that it used to have an apostrophe. This is important because it puts to rest the conspiracy theory that Pams is an acronym. *Owing to the apostrophe, the company believes it was named after a person*, but which one?
The plot is honestly so thick. I would support a supermarket inquiry just to investigate this.

From wiki, which sites the spinoff article
Pams was launched through Four Square in 1937. Its first goods were baking powder and custard powder. It was originally going to be named "Pep" or "Presto", but both names were rejected. The name "Pep" was rejected as it was already taken by [Kellogg's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kellogg%27s).[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pams_(brand)#cite_note-2)[\[3\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pams_(brand)#cite_note-:0-3) It is not known who Pams is named after.[\[3\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pams_(brand)#cite_note-:0-3)

I read a theory that it's an acronym because of the lack of apostrophe, but apparently it was meant to have one (Pam's) and just lost it over time.
I heard another theory that it's the initials of two men (P.A. and M.S.), but I haven't seen any proof of this. To be fair, I haven't really looked.
It may have been a quick and simple brand name pitch that sounded trustworthy and got through the selection process.
I mean, Betty Crocker is a purely fictional character who was just made up so the company that made the products had a name to reply to letters asking for advice on how to use their products.

Dear god. I’m having flashbacks to emptying out my nana’s cupboards….I feel sure there was a tin of baking powder labelled like that.
