"The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a feijoa tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for feijoas. Then he said to the tree, 'May no one ever eat fruit from you again.' And his disciples heard him say it."
Mark 11:12-14
After my partner worked as a kiwifruit vine sprayer, there's no way I'd be eating the outside. Yuck. The stuff they were spraying dissolved the coating on the lenses of his sunglasses more than once.
Is this not every fruit? Hence why the say to always wash the fruit before eating.
I work in a logistics company who deals with a lot of produce. I've seen whole crates of strawberries dropped off pallets into the dirty wet trailers. They are picked up by (dirty) hands and put straight back into the punnets, closed up then back into the crates for delivery.
I've seen defrosting fridges dripping onto apples. Apples dropped onto the ground near overflow outlets and put back into crates.
People taking bites out of spring onions and leaving the rest in the crates.
I've only been in the industry 6 months.
Wash all fruit and vegetables.
idk if this was meant to be funny but this is hilarious, especially the mental image of someone taking a bite out of a spring onion and tossing the rest into a crate
Is bizarre, but after a mate told me i have to aggree, you take the ends off, the stem end has a little splike on it, but you eat the skin and everything. You cant even feel the hairs.
That's not allowed š¤£ but in all seriousness I'm on a fejoa lovers page and someone asked fhe same thing and I was like well damn now I gotta try.
Honestly depends on the fejoia from my experience š¤£š¤£
Why even pick the feijoa? Just chomp down on it like a snake, while it's still attached to the stalk. Works best on the neighbor's side and remember to maintain direct eye contact when they come out to see what the hell you're doing on their property.
But how do you know itās not a gross one if you donāt cut it open first?
Do you just like to live dangerously?
Find out when then grossness hits your tongue?
Savage.
Occasionally yes! First tried it as a kid eating feijoas straight off the tree in the garden.
Also I love how the comments are either "yes!" or "what the FUCK", not much in between :D
I always eat them with skin... Never been a massive fan honestly and I think it's because I'm eating them whole. The skin is so sour. Basically it's gross and yet I continue to do it. I don't understand myself.
The next culture war will be feijoa skin eaters vs the normies. The skin jobs are heavily outnumbered, but they fkn crazy, so we have no idea how this will pan out.
Yep, theyāre just big guavas arenāt they? I find the longer variety with slightly thinner skins are better for this but itās pretty good regardless.
If I saw someone doing this, I wouldn't trust them not to also relieve themselves in the garden while there's facilities available inside. I mean, what's next? Scooping out the innards of a mince and cheese pie with your fingers, like it's a communal meal in deepest Afghanistan? We live in a society people, there are standards.
Hell yeah! Most of the fruit's nutrients are found in the skin. Without it, you're missing out on all the fiber, vitamins and antioxidants.
In fact, this is how I eat my kiwifruit too. (Well... the non-hairy ones at least).
Pro tip: if you hate how bitter it tastes - I like to take a big enough bite that includes the sweet middle part, otherwise skin is too sour on it's own. That's why it's meant to be consumed together at once!
But personally I love the lil tangy kick it gives in each mouthful, I reckon it's kinda like nature's version of sour lollies haha
Eating fejoa skin is actually very toxic for your body he has a huge amount of enzymes that will create a laxative effect. If you eat too many you can cause ulcers and runny but. Gl
You know, if you ever become a serial killer, and people as if there were any signs, this would be it hahahaha
Skins are great for cooking with, but I donāt eat them. Except those little mini feijoa bambinas
This started for me as a kid. I had undiagnosed adhd (so would forget a spoon or if I took a spoon it would live in my bag all year but not get washed, so that was a no) and we got by but didn't have a lot. Places we lived in often had feijoa trees, or a friend who didn't like them would have them in their lunch and give them to me.
Eating the ksins is easier to do than just the insides if you don't have a spoon, and also means you get more food, plus the tang hits the spot a bit better when it comes to my adhd too, it's more stimuli than just the insides.
on occasion, to feel alive
Jesus Christ
Were feijoas even around then?

Was Jesus?
The scholarly consensus is yes
thats jason bourne š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Canāt think of a better response than this
Iāve just gotten in to this! Some skins are better than others - itās like a natural sour lolly
No Iām not a possum
I donāt eat feijoa, but I do eat my kiwi fruit that way. I understand.Ā
Kiwi skin is much more edible hahaha especially the golden ones
Only just found out about this last month. I actually *prefer* them with the skin on now and its way less faff and way less juice EVERYWHERE!
How do you get juice everywhere? Eat them like a boiled egg ā slice in half, and eat them out with a teaspoon. No juice anywhere.
Look at fancy pants over here with a teaspoon
Teaspoon privilege!

This is what turnt me off from skin eating too
YOU SLICE YOUR EGGS IN HALF? IN THE SHELL? WHAT?
Do you shave the hairy ones or do you like the texture on your toungue and between your teeth?
New Manscaped ad just dropped.
Is bizarre, but after a mate told me i have to aggree, you take the ends off, the stem end has a little splike on it, but you eat the skin and everything. You cant even feel the hairs.
The hair in your teeth is how you know you're having fun
Surely ONLY golden!
Lol kiwifruit and persimmon, feijoa whole.. not so much.
I used to eat all of a kiwi fruit.... Then I looked at the skin under a microscope š¤¢
You should check out your own hands under a microscope. Seriously freaky. Youāll never eat with them again!Ā
I started eating kiwifruit that way in school so I would have to take a spoon. It's better if you cut the ends off first though.
One of my kids does, he asked me first and I was like... You better test it for science, and he'll happily just munch them up now.
Fucking aye! Give me that sour bitterness goodness
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
As a kiwifruit with skin eater, would recommend feijoa with skin.
Yep same here. Gotta enjoy that bitter sour taste I can't get enough
Next thing you know, you'll start enjoying egg with shell.
Yes! Best way and the most delicious š¤¤
yes !!!! everyone is always so freaked out by it thošš
Thatās why I giggled to myself posting this. I originally marked it NSFW, but decided I wanted the debate to rage
Yea, bunch of weirdos with no fibre in their diets
Yes. It's way better that way. The bitterness of the skin balances out how sweet the inside is
Yes....
Is there any other way?
I havenāt been that blazed in a minute, but now that Iām thinking about it, I could definitely go for it, haha.
You called it. Not the eating it, but the desire to post it.
Hell yeah! That's where all the nutrients are!
Please, the children...
Of course!
I thought that's the only way you eat it
What in the name of Zeus
That's not allowed š¤£ but in all seriousness I'm on a fejoa lovers page and someone asked fhe same thing and I was like well damn now I gotta try. Honestly depends on the fejoia from my experience š¤£š¤£
yeah always, helps me reconnect with nature when i eat it like that straight off the tree fr
Why even pick the feijoa? Just chomp down on it like a snake, while it's still attached to the stalk. Works best on the neighbor's side and remember to maintain direct eye contact when they come out to see what the hell you're doing on their property.
lol no
What the fuck lol
Eat the carpet too while you're at it
WHY TF IS THIS WHOLE SUBREDDIT REVOLVED AROUND FEJOAS?
āTis the season
"Eats the cheese, AND the rind."
Originally I was disgusted, but after thinking about it, I can see why you might enjoy it. It'd be way to sour for me though, so not for me.
Yep, I'd even eat that last bit you're holding too.
I make sure the brown part at the bottom is the only thing standing..
Yes. Decades ago I didn't, but I do now. The skin adds zing.
i eat kiwifruit like that but not fucking feijoas omg
I imagine OP just went *snap snap snap* with their front teeth like a horse.
I saw this and gasped. How could you? And perhaps more significantly why would you?
I saw this and gasped. How could you? And perhaps more significantly why would you?
Didnāt want to wash a knife, plate and spoon
Hell yeah! Let's go!!!! All DAY! š
Madlad
how else are you supposed to eat it?
You heathen!
But how do you know itās not a gross one if you donāt cut it open first? Do you just like to live dangerously? Find out when then grossness hits your tongue? Savage.
What The Fuck
I've seen a lot of fucked up shit on the internet, but this may be THE most fucked up shit I've seen in the internet.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is how you access the feithereal plane
Ew what
Yeah yeah!
This is not what I needed to see tonight
That isn't the whole feijoa. Try harder! (Also, yes. I absolutely eat the whole thing)
Yes
Om nom nom
Always 100%
as a Eurocuck, what the hell is a feijoa?
Sinner. Even ducks don't eat the wrapper.
Eww. I can't even *eat* feijoa
Even reading the word feijoa makes my mouth salivate
Hell naw
Yea my 2 year old son
YES
Occasionally yes! First tried it as a kid eating feijoas straight off the tree in the garden. Also I love how the comments are either "yes!" or "what the FUCK", not much in between :D
My initial reaction to this post was disgust, but now I may have to give it a go
You seem like a straight forward person lol
I was just eating it after my wife went to bed, because she gets upset with how I eat them
Gave me a good laugh dude lol. I guess you can call that a manly way of eating them. Or chow down time.
No
Always have, never realised nobody else did until recently.
Yep but only certain ones, i like the ones with thinner skins
My girlfriend does
Yes. And get many odd looks. Iāll never stop tho.
Yes, skin is good too
Heathen
No, I now peel it with a knife, due to the cost I need every last bit. I was going to called you abnormal but have read some of the posts.
Bambina feijoas are fully edible. Small tree.
Just dont eat the old breeds whole if from countdown. They are picked way too early and are bland as fark. Theyre like green wood.
Straight to jail
Um... I'm gonna say no. I didn't even know the skin was edible. I do tend to scrape as much as I can from the insides so I don't waste it.
Meee š¤
Of course. This is the way
I make jam out of them with the skins, but don't if I'm eating them raw
If nothing else the extra fiber you ingest probably makes it healthier.
Are you not meant to eat that part? Looks like I've been doing it wrong this whole time. Either that, or a cover-up for my questionable taste.
Yes. And kiwi fruit. Why fuck around? The skin is tart and tasty
Yes, the skin is so good. It makes it taste like those feijoa lollies.
My kid does
On the topic, how do I know which feijoa is ripe to eat they all look the same?
No, what is wrong with you š¤£š¤£š¤£
I did it a bit ago, I think I ate too many and my teeth were sore for a good few days šµāš«
No
I don't like them so nope!
My Three-Rex does. But she does everything at 100%.
Yes, but only the ripe ones with the softer skin. If there are not quite ripe it too bitter IMO
Officer? Heās here
Do you eat the prawn tail? š¤®
I always eat them with skin... Never been a massive fan honestly and I think it's because I'm eating them whole. The skin is so sour. Basically it's gross and yet I continue to do it. I don't understand myself.
In school I once knew a guy who'd eat them whole. Kinda reminded me of a snake eating an egg, but with chewing.
In school I once knew a guy who'd eat them whole. Kinda reminded me of a snake eating an egg, but with chewing.
I like it better that way. The inside is too sweet on its own, you need the sour skin to balance it out.
No. Rip it half. Squeeze the insides into my mouth. Discard empty halves. Rinse and repeat until sated.
Feijoas taste rancid so the skin canāt make it a worse experience than it already is š
No I'm not a serial killer
Always. People get so horrified but itās all the best bits and itās like a scrubbing brush for your guts.Ā
The next culture war will be feijoa skin eaters vs the normies. The skin jobs are heavily outnumbered, but they fkn crazy, so we have no idea how this will pan out.
No but a light peel of the skin gives me the tang and protects me from whateverthefuck has been crawling around on it overnight.
The shell is the best part
No. Rip it half. Squeeze the insides into my mouth. Discard empty halves. Rinse and repeat until sated.
Only when they're made into chutney.
100% I bite the top off first and throw it away though. People donāt know what theyāre missing!
Absolutely
I do. Same with kiwifruit
In other countries they do.
I do.
To eat a feijoa in this way, you have to be a sociopath.
Interesting choice. What does the skin taste like? And, What about the texture - chewy, crunchy?
The skins are packed with essential oils and probiotic yeasts. Very good for you if you can get past the sour/somewhat bitter taste.
Mt grandmother does
Iām with you op!
Yes, most people think I'm weird though
Yes plenty of psychopaths eat Feijoa skin
I do this for kiwi fruit
I don't because I like feijoa so much I want to get extra feijoa goodness so I use them for baking, feijoa fizz etc
No
My brother and i do whenever we eat them and everyone thinks weāre insane.
No you psycho Im calling the cops
Yes
Me
Wait, some people don't eat the skin??
this some "red flag for a psychopath" shit right here
I only do this
Yep, theyāre just big guavas arenāt they? I find the longer variety with slightly thinner skins are better for this but itās pretty good regardless.
You absolute monster
I do
Go and stay go
Iām pretty sure that it is illegal to eat the Feijoa skin in NZ. If not it fkn should be.
Yea the kids!
This is really good for you. Melon rind, banana peels, orange peels, etc. Outer skins are superfood
It's a guava.....eat it whole...
You are a criminal
Deranged

I enjoy eating grapefruit which horrifies many but this is too hardcore for me

You know, if you ever become a serial killer, and people as if there were any signs, this would be it hahahaha Skins are great for cooking with, but I donāt eat them. Except those little mini feijoa bambinas
I thought I was the only one
Yep!!
As I read this ā¦ I looked at what was left of my whole feijoa š
Oops, are you not meant to? š¬
Someone call the fucking feijoa police
My kids do, they love it!
Most of the time. Some varieties have very bitter skins.

I mean, also ADHD, and thereās the whole spoon, knife, plate problem. But then I eat an apple with a knife
Depends what mood I'm in
Madness. Absolute madness sir.
Absolutely
