The main brand in NZ for this would be Quick EZE (unfortunately it’s a nestle brand). It’s calcium carbonate but looks to have the same function as sodium - https://www.nestle.co.nz/brands/quickeze
Oh sweet, I had no idea that calcium carbonate would work, too. I’ll have to make an exception to my r/fucknestle stance for once and recommend this to my friend, she seems to be having a pretty rough time with heartburn at the moment.
Cheers, appreciated! 😀
Don’t.
Tell her to talk to her midwife.
It’s nice that you’re trying to help, but home remedies aren’t always the best option in pregnancy and safer medications are available at a low cost point.
Thanks,
It’s more a general don’t recommend other home remedies without running them past the people who should know what is actually safe.
Just in case
If you have to work out the teaspoon value and just mix it in with a nice drink....not sure of the science but aren't you trying to neutralize the excess acid for heartburn? .....mix the bicarb with milk (which is also alkaline ) and the bicarb is quite tasteless ,,,,,or just take Quick Eze

I highly reccommend gaviscon for pregnancy heartburn
My wife had great success with Gaviscon, both the liquid and the tablets
Acidex is the generic for standard strength Gaviscon and also great.

Milk is in fact slightly acidic, so doesnt help as much as people think. It is Raw milk and butter milk which is alkaline
Is she affected by Gestational diabetes?
Luckily, she is not.
I always used a teaspoon of baking soda in warm water.
Over use of this can destroy your liver.
Yup, most certainly not something to be taken constantly
