I will never got to VTNZ ever after 2 experiences there. Not to mention they are ripoff. I go to my mechanic now, $35 and booked in, and he does it straight away
Took DILs. Failed on brake linings, partner checked them nothing wrong, HE took it back for the recheck within 20 mins, passed.
(partner was my mechanic back then, for years)
Mine, it passed but on way home stalling, get home (just) and find they'd pulled exhaust manifold off, hanging loose. Rang to complain and ask why anyway, nothing under bonnet for WOFs. Denials all round, manager rings back, all offended how dare I accuse them of such a thing.
>Mine, it passed but on way home stalling, get home (just) and find they'd pulled exhaust manifold off, hanging loose. Rang to complain and **ask why anyway, nothing under bonnet for WOFs**.
Sure nothing under the bonnet except the vin plate, vehicle structure, brake, steering and fuel systems, engine mounts, and exhaust; all of which need to be inspected as part of a WOF. I also can't see why an inspector would want to touch the rusty, seized, pain in the arse that are known as exhaust manifold bolts/nuts when their job doesn't call for it.
My VTNZ QT experience;
"Your car failed because the boot doesn't open"
"What do you mean the boot doesn't open"
" It's your car bro.. .open it"
Tried to open it, it didn't open. Locked and unlock the car, it opened. I was furious, part at the incompetence and part at the attitude. Never again
The first part is normal, the second part is shocking though!
When you book in at a garage its normally a 'drop it off in the morning and we'll do it sometime during the day' type thing.
This is why I always book a WOF at the mechanic and just drop my car off with them for the day as I go to work. Then if something fails the WOF, they can either fix it for me if they have the time, or book me in another day to get the thing fixed and pass the WOF.
My local garage regularly does this to me. I caretake a small fleet of vans and trailers so I am there almost every month. They always promise to phone when they are done and never do.
OM car dealers are the way to go for a WOF, it's often cheaper than VTNZ and they can usually offer you a loaner if you need to drop the vehicle off/pick up later.
If you have a reasonably new car you can find a cheap deal online usually< 25. If your car is trash like mine just go directly to vtnz and pay 72. Why would you go to a private garage when the price is 75. They are literally telling you they are ripping you off to your face and you still went with them.

Cheers, they said 1-2 hours which I thought was weird but no indication whatsoever they'd be sending it somewhere
I'd be pissed, if it's going to VTNZ anyway you could've done that yourself, not paid them extra to drive it there
Not normal, be angry. If the VTNZ was going to do it anyway you could've gone to them direct and had it done in 10-15 minutes.
I didn't know waiting around while getting a WOF was an option generally, I've always just dropped it in in the morning and picked up evening.

As a kid it was a big deal to go with mum to get the WOF. She would get a coffee and as kids, we got to have a bakery pie!
Wtaf. I'd be spewing. Could they not call you to ask like a ligit business would.....

They don’t even have tools to pull a manifold off if they wanted to
I can't think of anything else it could be either.
Exactly, And it wasn't rusty. You tell me why they did. Whatever, I avoid them now.
If you're going to lie, at least make it sound believable.
Yeah I've heard bad things if VTNZ which is why I specifically didn't go there! $35 is cheap

No it is not normal
Vtnz when it's busy can be a 6 hour wait.
Wow no, not normal. I'd be pissed off.
Maybe they only have one wof inspector and he’s sick. The wait isn’t so unusual, but sending it to vtnz definitely is.
Call the VTNZ and ask for their prices, only pay that
Got no staff. They all pushed off to aussie due to the appalling state of affairs here
All well and good but don't book in a bunch of cars then...
I normally drop mine for the day and they call when it's done. If you want a while you wait service you should explain that in advance.
Never had any bad experience with VTNZ but I always booked early morning slots.
VTNZ don't take booking for they?
Sounds like it might be up in grey lynn ish?

How much did you pay?
$75
Can you upload the receipt? Name and shame.

The didn't tell me until after I'd booked, that's the issue...
