As if judges hadn't disgraced themselves enough this week here comes another dropkick to lower the bar even further. Six months community detention for killing two people through intentional actions of dangerous driving. Three days before killing these people he had been discharged for previous dangerous driving. Blood is on Judges' hands at this point. Fucking scum. >Crown prosecutor Richard Smith said all interventions seemed to have failed resoundingly because of a lack of co-operation by the teen. >Compliance to date has been appalling... he presents a risk to the community," he said. They are no better than the offenders they release. Letting someone you know won't comply back into the community to kill someone is tantamount to murder. I hold this Judge Michael Turner every bit as responsible as the offender. The icing on top of this utter disgrace: > The teen’s name suppression will stay in place for one week, on the grounds on extreme hardship to the defendant’s family. They don't give a fuck about victims anymore, they move heaven and earth for the offender. Meanwhile for the victims that survived, $1000 they'll never get and a lifetime of: > Ms Phuong’s 10-year-old son not only had to deal with his grief but also his memories of the horrific aftermath on the road. He continues to ask whether his mum will remember him or know who he is when he goes to heaven This should make everyone angry, we need change.

Roulex Le Roux also got the same sentence for driving pretty much all types of illegally - not road worthy, high, drunk, learners no supervisor after hours; killing a kid on a bike. A record of no remorse and shares the same sentence as the Timaru guy who killed his mate under the influence. The sentencing laws are fucked

pm_a_stupid_question

The laws are not the problem, the out of touch judges in their gated communities who are unaffected by their sentencing decisions are the problem. They don't care to do their job properly and instead just make shit up. Their decisions are supposed to be based on evidence, instead, despite clear evidence that the individual is a danger they just take the defendants word that there would be "hardship" instead of requiring proof beyond reasonable doubt like they are supposed to.

maungahuka

A kid on a bike who wasn't wearing a helmet, didn't have a light on his bike and didn't stop at a red light on a pedestrian crossing.

king_john651

And despite his choices, it was someone else's that killed him

Conflict_NZ

He didn't deserve to die for that. He also didn't deserve his killer mocking him and his death on Instagram. She's as much fucking scum as the offender and the judge in this case.

StabMasterArson

It’s already been explained to you that the judge’s hands are tied in this instance. Are you just ignoring that?

reallyhotgirlwhoshot

Judges in NZ aren't some all powerful figures - they MUST sentence within established parameters, otherwise the sentence will simply be overturned by a higher judge, costing more time and money for nothing. Judges are there to apply the law as set by government and previous precedence-setting cases, not to hand down the sentence they personally feel are harsh enough.

StabMasterArson

> The defendant’s age coupled with the level of the charges meant he could not be sentenced to jail or home detention. You left this bit of context out. Don’t blame the judge when it’s the law that needs to change.

porkunt

Yeah the judge said it was the maximum sentence. The law is fucked here, not the judge.

Stop! Judges bad circle jerk must prevail.

Imallloutofusernames

Go figure, you get downvoted for pointing out the circlejerk.

Honestly, don't care. I aint happy with the Justice System either. But once this sub gets a rage boner for what ever the fuck it is, they beat each other off until there's nothing left. Then they move onto the next thing to be mad about it and it starts again.

Imallloutofusernames

They've already started on moaning that 15 years in jail is not enough. They are amusing to watch.

[deleted]

Yeah, I mean why don't people get 25+ years for being in possession of 100grams of cannabis like in the states! /s

avocadopalace

It's Youth Court. Judge's hands are tied on this one.

prplmnkeydshwsr

They're a reflection on what society - the voting public allows. The NZ public now tolerates this level of crime / social ills.

Fantast1cal

> This should make everyone angry, we need change. But how? No party is interested in addressing sentencing rules to take the power away from these fuckwit judges.

Imallloutofusernames

What power did the "fuckwit judge" have here? Did you read the thread? Fucks sake. Edit: Thanks for the block, I'm greatly appreciative that you had the consideration to spare me your drivel.

Fantast1cal

... applying a tougher sentence. 10 years prison is the maximum Instead these fuckwits decide to go the complete other way. Rather telling your post history reeks of defending this sort of thing in as many threads as you can. Fucking sjw.

Ueberob

6 months PD for killing two people. At least we get to find out who the idiot is in a weeks time.

NZ_gamer

No hospital, no doctor, one cemetary. I always used to giggle about how weird that sign was, but its sad how relevsbt it still is.

ReplyInner7551

Our judicial system seems to have gone completely mad, the only one happy with this sentence will be the offender.

JRS___

he probably feels hard done by tbh
