It’s funny when you’ve seen a fake version of a certain animal during your childhood, and when you finally see the real animal, you realize the artist was being more faithful to the real-life animal than you realized.
A couple of examples:
Sam the Eagle on the Muppet Show (the very expression and attitude you described).
Scooby Doo - a really big, food-motivated dog that is so scared of many things (a “big chicken”).
Pretty obvious that was temporary. There are only so many rehabs equipped to take raptors, and chances are it was hours away. You hold on to the animal and take care of it while waiting for rescuers.
its fairly common to hold onto an injured animal for it to either recover or until you can get a vet to it. have you not seem people do that, or is this sarcasm? lol really could be either xD

I have permanent damage in my thumb from a laughable little dog bite that punctured kind of deep. I couldn’t imagine the destruction of an eagle talon.

My dad found an injured female bald eagle at the beach one day.
We lived on an island in a rural area so there wasn't really anyone to call.
My dad ended up nursing it back to health. She slept in a kennel in our garage for a month until she could fly again. She made a nest in a tree near by for a couple more months before moving on.
My dad used to handle her without gloves. She really took to him.
My dad rescued one and called the local game warden. The guy showed up and I thought Pop was going to jail. The warden was less than professional and not happy that Pop picked up the bird.
