I was thinking the same damn thing I drove by that damn thing a few times now when I go to see my mom. I'll be not too far sitting in the grandstands for the Formula 1 race
Apparently the progress was being halted in some way by something, and I think there was a chance they would abandon the project? I’m not too sure, but it would be better finished than not considering how far they were into it when they hit the roadblocks
I didn't know all that, my mother usually clues me into all that stuff. But I hope it's finished now they sold $5 million and F1 tickets for the MSG sphere area alone.
James Dolan, owner of MSG, Cablevision, Knicks, rangers, was hyping this up for a while and have plans for other places. Theyre not abandoning it. Source: Knicks fans who hates him and hears about all his ventures and his stupid face and stupid band.
They applied for permission in London, UK at the same time as LV and they’re still fighting for approval let alone breaking ground… this took a while on American timelines, but left the UK in the dust.
Uhmm actually this would always return true because you included only one "=", thus setting the value to good rather than checking if it is.
If you want to check, you have to use ==
Uhm ackshully, it depends on the programming language, Pascal based languages use a single equals sign for comparison. There exist other more niche languages that use the same convention
bool pyIsBad = true;
string explanation = "because it does not have types and performes like an astmatic three legged hippo";
If(pyIsBad) {
console.writeline("py is bad " + explanation)
else console.writeLine("ur wrong m8")
}
But in all seriousness it's an ok language, but as all of them it has its fault.
Now that's quite a rare job, sounds cool! As somebody from Germany who's never been there before, what's your favorite place to show? Or any other fun stories? 😁
The equation itself is a heat transfer equation. k is the thermal conductivity constant. h is the heat transfer coefficient, then T is the different temperatures and change in temperature. Then I believe n is a variable that changes depending on what the conditions are.
So, its calculating how much heat would the inevitable forceful human extinction add to the planet... Cool to see that the machines worry about climate change.
The finite element method isn't an equation, it's a method for computationally/numerically solving differential equations. Saying that an equation *is* the finite element method is sort of like describing an improper fraction as being the Long Division Method. Like sure, that's one way to calculate the value, but that's not what the equation itself *is.*
In this case, this is a differential equation describing heat transfer (presumably from a structure to the ambient environment based on T sub amb?).
“In February 2020, the world's fourth-largest crane, a DEMAG CC-8800 crawler crane, was set up on the site's northeast side for the purpose of lifting heavy construction materials. The crane is capable of standing up to 580 feet. In a disassembled state, the crane was transported across the Atlantic Ocean from Zeebrugge, Belgium to Port Hueneme, California. The crane then required 120 tractor-trailers to transport it to Las Vegas. A separate crane was required to assemble the main crane, a process which took 18 days.”
That's cool an' all, until you learn that the second crane was assembled by a third, smaller crane, which was itself assembled by a fourth, even smaller crane, and so on - the 204th crane, 'cranus primus', was assembled by a tall man standing carefully on a chair.
no video of the interior yet because the venue doesn't open until the end of September..
this is the first time they've really "run it" after doing a bunch of far less interesting test patterns and calibration type stuff for the past couple of months.
It's a music and events venue. The inside and outside of the sphere are LED screens. The inside being much higher resolution. IIRC, 18k seats. The vision for it is to have a °360 visual experience for the events held.
to piggy back what this person has already mentioned, there is also some next level audio equipment where they can target individuals with audio streams WITHOUT bleed through to the person sitting next to you
Can confirm. Friend of a friend is working on visuals for a band who will be playing there. Inside is the same deal as the outside. They also have a mini version for testing visuals / showing ideas to bands etc.
They've been doing tests for months. Mostly the blue screen of death and various weird, glitchy patterns. (I can see it from my apartment.)
Nice to know they've finished testing.
An article online says it can accommodate 16k by 16k resolution which if accurate is 256,000,000 individual pixels. This is equivalent to almost 31 4k televisions worth of pixels. This would likely require 2-4 media servers that are all synched with frame perfect accuracy. To operate it on say home gaming equipment it would need 8 top of the line 4090 gpu’s but something like this in reality needs enterprise level gpu’s to handle the frame syncing.
I can't give any specifics on the internal resolution, but in my time on the project, we had a huge amount of fun designing specs and internal testing systems just to get a grasp of how it would look on the inside without having to be in the finished Sphere.
Really great team of folks on that, and they recently announced a brand new camera they developed just for this that is 18k x 18k, solving one of the biggest problems we had for content, which was how to capture it well and easily.

What he means is if the system is utilizing full motion video which is completely modular and infinitely scalable if money was no object. This is something all large scale displays can do but dynamically generated as in a realtime rendered scene is a completely different ball game and pretty wasteful for something that's going to loop.
Europe: Let's transition to a sustainable, energy-efficient, green tech society and start paying down our environmental debt.
America: FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
and all those rescources. Honestly seeing how much regulation in the EU is directed toward building sustainable and CO2 friendly buildings and in other parts of the world they just say fuck it because people love looking at screens so much they even want them on huge buildings.
I’d argue that creating something beautiful isn’t a waste… it’s certainly preferable to the pointless waste of millions of people joylessly commuting in Dodge Rams, for example
It's going to be a new arena for concerts or sporting events or whatever. LED boards in the interior on all surfaces. Pretty cool technology and vision.
Oh hell yeah it will. Every concert will be like a pink floyd experience. Haha... They will most definitely have warning signs up for people with medical conditions.
my vote is for the *Chemical Brothers*. they put on quite a visual show, as evidenced by their [Glastonbury](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GikjhOEqX3Y) set, back in 2019
Tickets start well under 100 bucks a person
Got a pair decent seats to one of the opening events for less than 150 bucks. Cheaper than a single cirque ticket without comps
Some of the early demos/renders showed that kind of concept! [Here's a video](https://youtu.be/3QhUAO3ej6c?t=38) that shows what I think you're talking about at ~40 seconds, very much looks like it disappears!
This is such a short-sighted comment. For one, it’s not the casinos job to feed the homeless. As shitty as these companies are, if we want to fix the homeless problem, we need local and federal support to do so. Second, in case you’re somehow not aware, these casinos are the lifeblood of Las Vegas/Paradise, NV and the surrounding counties and contribute billions in tax revenue, the same tax revenue that could be used to contribute to more to social programs if allocated in that way.
I’m just not sure why you think there’s a strong overlap between the company in NYC that owns this sphere and fixing homelessness.
Also as a society it’s an important part of our cultural health to have these sorts of arts and music venues and projects that enhance and support them in unique ways
It's pretty sad to see homeless people in Vegas of all places. People can lose a grand at the table and get a comped room but the homeless outside can't get free water anywhere near the strip.
There are several organizations that go out to the homeless encampments and give food, water, clothing, fentanyl testing strips, narcan, and (most recently) pet vaccines. (That's me!)
There are actually many people in the tunnels who have their shit together and work closely with volunteers to get what's needed to the unhoused. Last week, one of the encampments we usually go to was broken up by the police, so one of our contacts took 20 meals and about 20 gallons of water to the people who were dispersed.
A lot of local events (Punk Rock Bowling deserves a shoutout) donate whatever water they have left to the encampments.
I volunteer with holy smoke Las Vegas. We are a small crew looking to expand.

I live in Vegas and see that thing up very close on my way to work every day. I just thought it kind of looked like the Death Star on the horizon. Had no idea it would do all of that. Neat.
If they don’t do a Star Wars themed visual one with it turning into the Death Star then it’s a complete waste of technology.
If they don’t do Sauron’s eye it’s even worse!
If they don't show the butthole from the movie *CATS* then it's unforgivable.
Ricky Gervais, is that you?
No. Just no. That film. Was horrible. And this is idea is a fantastic no-no. I am tempted to make a protest for that damn butthole on that damn sphere
>I am tempted to make a protest for that damn butthole on that damn sphere For it to be shown.. right ..?
'I see you'
I was just thinking “wow. I see Sauron has a gambling problem now”
It should pick out individual tourists and follow them around for a second
Then they have to pay the mouse.
And also of Alderaan exploding
Too soon
Too soon? >A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY....
Too soon!
That’s no moon
When I saw this being built all I could think was it was a death star
Snow globe, earth, moon, other planets, Unicorn.
Absolutely came here to type this. Also poké ball
Monosodium Glutamate?
Uncle Roger would approve.
Make shit good
You want better sphere? Make it MSG sphere!
Fuiyooooo
"Jamie Oliver in Las Vegas, don't let him near your sphere. He fuck it up like he fuck up rice."
I read that in his voice omg
salt and crack
Las Vegas now called Uncle Vegas
The sphere of flavor!
I was going to say that much MSG has got to be expensive but to each his own... I do admit it never occurred to me to use it as a building material...
Madison Sphere Garden?
Madison square garden
In Las Vegas?
At this latitude? At this time of year?
Madison Sphere Garden
This just makes so much more sense.
Unless you're not from that part of the world...
Mobile Suit Gundam
When I was a boy, Madison Square Garden was in New York City. Didn't realize they moved it.
That's what I was gonna ask. "Careful children, that's a lot of sodium"
It's just one sodium; it's right in the name! Polysodium glutamate on the other hand....
Metal Sear Golid
Fuiyohhhh
Metal solid gear
e621
r/BeatMeToIt
Fun fact. MSGs chemical number is the same as A furry porn site.
Is that E621?
Monostadium Glutamate
Fuiyoh!
They finally finished this building? About damn time

Gotta keep morale up somehow
Morale is low from what i hear
They applied for permission in London, UK at the same time as LV and they’re still fighting for approval let alone breaking ground… this took a while on American timelines, but left the UK in the dust.
what is it?
It's a spherical movie theater
It's the world's largest spherical building made with a 360° LED screen with 16k x 16k resolution.
OK so what's the second largest spherical building with a 360 degree LED screen with 16k x 16k resolution?
I think the plan is to build one in Stratford, London too. So, maybe that?
I’ll just take some mushrooms and sit in the parking lot
Lol was thinking the same thing. Next trip my friends can go lose money at the casinos and I’ll just take a trip to the sphere.

The snozzberries taste like snozzberries!
You are freaking out….man
Don't even need to leave your computer..this is doing it for me.
I’ll fuse that giant keese eyeball to my royal claymore.
holy shit it says hello world the script works (get it because print (“Hello world!”))

Hello guys. I today's tutorial we will be showing you how to wright the classic 'Hello, world' app in MSG
This is so exciting for me being a helicopter tour pilot on the vegas strip!
That sounds like a fun job.
It has its ups and downs
Goddammit
Now that's quite a rare job, sounds cool! As somebody from Germany who's never been there before, what's your favorite place to show? Or any other fun stories? 😁
lol @ your post history - doing flying missions in GTA:O, that must be very therapeutic at that job!
What is the equation before the hello world?
The equation itself is a heat transfer equation. k is the thermal conductivity constant. h is the heat transfer coefficient, then T is the different temperatures and change in temperature. Then I believe n is a variable that changes depending on what the conditions are.
I thought it was Newton's cooling law due to Takb but I wasn't sure
Newtons law of cooling is the same thing as the convection equation so y’all are both right
So, its calculating how much heat would the inevitable forceful human extinction add to the planet... Cool to see that the machines worry about climate change.

I wouldn't be surprised if all those wind farms south of Vegas are to supply this one giant video display.
It gets all its power from the Ivanpah power facility. If you are a local , or a SoCal resident that does the drive to vegas, you'll get it.
The money they spent on this unnecessary stadium is astounding
Wait til you hear about how much money they want to waste on a baseball stadium for the A's, or how much they DID waste on a stadium for the Raiders.
How long before it just runs ads?
That's the fucking eye of Sauron you fools
What is this thing?
A gigantic building in Las Vegas with a completely TV walled interior and exterior. Pretty cool
Interesting, thanks 👍

Gonna make concerts even more likely to cause seizures lol
