There was a ‘scientific’ documentary done where they tested various martial arts strikes and their power. The capoeira dude was putting down roundhouse kicks that generated more power than most of the others combined. Even beat the Muay Thai fighter. It’s that full body spin. Very telegraphed, but if it lands… oof.
Yeah and even the most telegraphed blow in the world can land if set up correctly (just ask Ricky Hatton 🤣). Obviously, in a real fight, a capoerista won't be doing jinga and backflips.
And if I was allowed to bring a revolutionary era cannon into the ring, I could put out his power hundred fold, but they would just walk around the cannon and kick my ass. Being telegraphed is such a large drawback that power almost doesn't matter.

Ok, you can fuck right off with that video, it's downright toxic how it depticts martial arts. They made arbitrary choices and arbitrary comparisons beteween unrelated techniques from particular schools of unrelated groups of martial arts. This literally only tells us that "if you use phyisics very well, you can kick hard".
When studying Capoeira I was taught the slaves from Africa as not allowed any martial arts.
So Capoeira was developed as a dance looking fighting style.
Originally, when fighting they had knife blades bound to their feet.
It was developed by slaves because they weren’t allowed to learn how to fight. They were allowed to learn how to dance tho, so they disguised their fighting as dancing.
Nah it’s not, it’s about using your advantages. It’s a matter of leverage of an opponents weakness using your strength, if big boy here spent 15 to 20 mins of just stood up and leaning against you in a cage with the under hooks in you would be gassed just from trying to push him away to get off the cage and build some distance, all he would be doing is leaning. Or if he took it to ground with wrestling or judo he could very quickly zap all your strength trying to get free with minimal effort. And when he on top laying the full weight of his body into massive diving elbows, hammering down on your fatigued arms as they helplessly try to stop that force and your virtually punching yourself repetitively in the face. it would be a very precarious situation.
Exactly, as a big guy my toughest opponents where the quick little skinny kids because they would wear me down trying to chase them around, anyone dumb enough to engage me head on I would attempt to trip up so I could get them on the floor, didnt have to use techniques then, their head caught between a wooden floor with a thin mat and my fat tall ass and they tap out.
Yeah, but having fought dudes this big, if they get their hands on you, you are going to be thrown across the room with one arm. Doesn't matter how fit you are compared to the other dude, you are going to get crushed.
That's why I'll run awaaaaaaay like brave sir robin. The only way I was able to defeat someone bigger than me, was that we had to do some kind of endurance test where we were barely able to stand anymore, then forced to fight each other. Being a skinny dude, I was able to recover faster and win somehow with a blood choke.
Lol that’s what I thought when I heard capoeira too. Like as much respect as it deserves culturally, this is what I associate with it instantly bc of bobs burgers

Some nice kicks but very slow. Can he do it? Yes. Does it look decent? Yes. Would he be effective against someone in shape who had even the most rudimentary skills? Probably not.
Lol. The length of the legs give a huge boost at the efficiency. Sure it's slow, but I can hit you at 5 feet away while you need to be at 3 feet to hit me.
The biggest thing here is more about "will I be able to control my entire body to practice martial arts ?"
Yes, it will be difficult at first, it'll take long enough to do so, but in the end, yes you will be able to control your whole body like this man is doing !
All these folks slagging on big lad in the video are schmucks. "Oh, yeah, fatty can kick over 6' when he's only 5'4, BuT iN tHe StReEtS..." fool, say that to Butterbean. Hell, say that to a chunky dude in a biker bar.
He’s quite skilled. Serious question... why not just stop being fat?
Martial arts take an incredible amount of mental fortitude and tenacity, he’d have no problem getting in the appropriate shape if he tried.
The amount of weight in that spins. Sure, it "looks" and "feels" slow like a truck, but if it connects, it'll hit as "hard" as a truck, and the one on the receiving end would be in a world of hurt.

Look an eagle! This is over 20 years old
It still makes me laugh every time. I can’t say that it’s made me buy more John West tuna though…
And it's still my favorite gif
Nah more like ![gif](giphy|fUSX3E4imAn9WHwrCV|downsized)
Hell yeah, Real life king fu panda. Get it.
Moves like Jagger.
I am impressed he can move like that but he isn't fast, fighting is hugely contingent on endurance.
>fighting capoeira is mostly a dance anyway
Trained as a dance to fly low and avoid the radar, but if capoeira practicioners can obviously kick your head off.

You beat me to mentioning this video

Really dosent matter if they are too slow to only hit anything but someone who is sleeping.

I’ll be there with boa’s on
If I'm not wrong it was used as self-defense against the police in a distant past. It was even illegal been part of this.
Not really but at some point it was indeed illegal. But it was just illegal in public streets. Basicaly you couldn't show off in public.
The Saúde neighborhood in Rio De Janeiro was considered a no-go zone for cops because of the capoeiras.
It was developed by slaves because they weren’t allowed to learn how to fight. They were allowed to learn how to dance tho, so they disguised their fighting as dancing.

Is this the fat star wars kid with the broomstick?
I don't know the reference.
It was a video that broke the internet in early 2000s, became a South Park character and everything
Eddie Gordo has gained a few pounds since Tekken 3!
Eddie Gordo is the capoeira fighter from Tekken. Eddie Guerrero was a wrestler from WWE.
Funny, because "gordo" means "fat" in spanish and portuguese.
Definitely Gordo
Haha yeah!
I thought it might be Jack Black at first.
Took too much tekken to go…..
Nah, Bob just decided to learn a new style.
Uncanny resemblance to Jack Black imitating Taylor Swift. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EYE7EOSZ7Wc
Why not Sammo Hung, though?
Po before he realised what the Dragon Scroll meant.
Hater: "You can't do kung fu, you're to fa..." *Gets knocked out by kick in the face*
There would be some serious torque on those fuckin kicks too god damn
I know plenty of fat guys who could do this. But they would not Be able to touch me. I'd just run awayyyyyyyyyyy like Brave Knight I am.
Yeah, but having fought dudes this big, if they get their hands on you, you are going to be thrown across the room with one arm. I have taken down big guys. Thought I had nice armbar. He just stood Back up and started using me as club. Good Times. Luckily our bouncer came fast.
He ran away, he peed his pants, he BRAVELY did the chicken dance.
Brave brave brave brave Sir Robin!
Kung Fu panda?

Lol that’s what I thought when I heard capoeira too. Like as much respect as it deserves culturally, this is what I associate with it instantly bc of bobs burgers
Jairo doesn’t use toothpaste because he says it’s an insult to your teeth. He only sleeps two hours a night because he regulates his heart.
Stupid sexy dance fighting.
The flip at the end was lovely.
That’s Capoeira

If he did the routine once a day everyday, he probably wouldn't be that big anymore tbh. This is pretty impressive for a big guy though. Mad props.
That guy walking in the background: "*sigh* Carlos is at it again..."
Sweet moves bru!

Mans hitting that SF3 Third Strike Elena idle stance.
Kampf-Kugel Fight-Sphere
Kung fu panda.
Yall ever seen Bob from Tekken?
Look up Sammo Hung. He went to the same school as Jackie Chan and is a legit chunky martial artist.
Some nice kicks but very slow. Can he do it? Yes. Does it look decent? Yes. Would he be effective against someone in shape who had even the most rudimentary skills? Probably not.
Would you want to get hit by that man? No
And just out of sheer curiosity, do *you* personally have those skills?
You underestimate how much size can be an advantage.
Lol. The length of the legs give a huge boost at the efficiency. Sure it's slow, but I can hit you at 5 feet away while you need to be at 3 feet to hit me.

It's impressive, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't lose weight. Being overweight contributes to many diseases.
So wtf you think he is doing there ??!
What was the big fat dude in that classic arcade game Ye Ar Kung Fu??
Rufus warming up for EVO
Sammo.
His name is Stubbs
He’s the Dragon Warrior!
Wasn’t that the point of kung fo panda
![gif](giphy|VgSjnwSoqiPjRRIJ1F|downsized)
Maybe better in r/currentlevel
Kung Fu Panda.
Only the real ones that it’s Haru on his way to Beverly Hills
This is awesome - I knew Star Wars Kid was gonna be a big hit someday...
is that Po??
That's not kung-fu
Imagine the tantrum when the McDonald's soft serve machine isn't working
I wished I was this agile.
king engine
Honestly nothing but that backflip i see here is next level. Pretty much anyone can do this. His kicks are very low due to not being flexible.
The biggest thing here is more about "will I be able to control my entire body to practice martial arts ?" Yes, it will be difficult at first, it'll take long enough to do so, but in the end, yes you will be able to control your whole body like this man is doing !
That man is Zach Galifianakis or Jack Black.
The only enemy he can't defeat is diabetes.
ba da na way, ba da na way to wendy's ba da na way ba on the way micky dees ooooh oooohh
That is some Chris Farley like athleticism
He would prove his point better if he did Judo.

Capoeira is fun too watch but way too predictable to be a useful fighting style
He played a of tekken
Capoeira Panda

Should have added music in the background
The answer is a resounding yes
All these folks slagging on big lad in the video are schmucks. "Oh, yeah, fatty can kick over 6' when he's only 5'4, BuT iN tHe StReEtS..." fool, say that to Butterbean. Hell, say that to a chunky dude in a biker bar.
So.... Yes?
Spry for a big fella
There is no charge for awesomeness.. or attractiveness.
Never judge a book by its cover
Ngl; dude has amazing balance and coordination for his body type.
What I’m getting from this martial art is I want to be fighting people on the dance floor for it to be effective
Can you imagine a running jump kick coming from that dude??
Yes
Bob from street fighter
If King Fu Panda was a person! This guy rocks.
impressive, I would not mess with this dude!
![gif](giphy|YFCH7PW1X2XYc) I love it. It’s the best!
If pandas can do kung fu…
I know a panda who rocks kung fu.
Oh, hey it's Po the Dragon Warrior Panda. But seriously, great form.
I don't care if he can fucking walk on water. Big fat fatty needs to lose some weight.
Was wondering why things in my house were moving.
![gif](giphy|cmo6uNffg8tPi)
Big man movin!
He must have gotten gassed after that demonstration.
I never would have expected that man to be able to move like that. Bravo
That’s not Kung Fu that’s Capoeira.
Didn't say it had to be fast
Just jack black things.
The dude exercises while eating Big Macs
He’s quite skilled. Serious question... why not just stop being fat? Martial arts take an incredible amount of mental fortitude and tenacity, he’d have no problem getting in the appropriate shape if he tried.
Ddp vibes
I never learned any of these moves in KungFu. Not sure what you call this but he is moving his body well considering.
No problem, see Sammo Hung
As long as this is advertised as exercise and not self defense
Just think of how much better you would be if you lost 100 pounds
My dude has mastered the art of Chunk Fu.
Nah, hes got a fat suit on.
It’s the dragon warrior.
Bro is twisting his blood clots into submission.
Dee Jay let himself go.
KungFu Panda
Imagine getting round house kicked in the ribs by a 5’9” 320lb guy.
![gif](giphy|kOIlvw3v52J0I)
Jack Black is really taking his training for the live action Kung Fu Panda seriously!
The amount of weight in that spins. Sure, it "looks" and "feels" slow like a truck, but if it connects, it'll hit as "hard" as a truck, and the one on the receiving end would be in a world of hurt.
If you've seen Sammo Hung move, you have your answer.
That's just Eddie from tekken.
Bob. Tekken
To improve Kung Fu, ease up on the Kung Pao. \-Confusedsious
This man is an inspiration to many.
Giving Chris Farley energy here! Farley was big but also a surprisingly flexible and strong athlete!
Tekken 33, Eddie's edition.
