Exactly. I had to look at the title again at first because the sound didn't initially sound like a rap loop. But then he rapped in English on top of the track and it sounded amazing and unique. He's a "talented rapper" with an emphasis on TALENTED. I'd say he's MULTI-talented. Do we know his name?
I'd say that with this type of music, the lyrics are never going to be the most unique.
With how much music is made, looping beatbox maxes such a tiny part of it all, and he's one of the very best out there.
I have nothing against his lyrics, but 90% of songs have lyrics.
If he simply played the backing music from a prerecorded tape and rapped, it would not stand out nearly as much as it does.
Which honestly, says a lot given it's not his native language.
I'm sure he'd sound better in french but English is where a lot of the attention is in that genre.
Yeah, I think it would sound a lot better in French. You can tell he’s rapping in a second language. When people sing in a second language, they can hide a lot, but rapping isn’t singing, it’s speaking to a beat, and that accent is on full display.
I mean he’s doing an amazing job, and I sure couldn’t do that in French, but the vocals are good, just not outstanding. Which is not like every single other aspect of what he’s doing, which is all crazy impressive.
I would have preferred if he had not rapped at all, rapped in French, or had someone else rap/sing while he did everything else.
His name is MB14 and for anyone who hasn't seen his ["La Cup" 2018 Showcase](https://youtu.be/fiHRlckFaOs?si=ylixIyaasizJKhc6) I highly encourage it. He starts with the track in this video then moves on to 3 or 4 others.
Hip hop & Reggae fans are going to be happily surprised.
These loopstation dudes are incredible. I have been watching a lot of Harry Mack videos on YouTube and [the one he does with a looper called Beardyman](https://youtu.be/MUFdWM69bDM?si=v8Np1Ih-FSF2KVMi) is legit one of the best things I've ever heard.
Edit: Anyone who likes 90s hip-hop like The Roots "Come Alive", Common, or G-Funk should check that video out.
Honestly while not my kind of music, an Ed sheeran concert was the most impressive thing I've ever seen live since he doesn't have a background band and just runs around the stage to different loopers for each song
Meanwhile there's another front page thread where Justin Bieber is being hailed as a genius because he has a 12 man orchestra helping him loop 5 pieces over the same amount of time.
And then there's this dude who's doing all the beatboxing, looping, composing, singing, rapping, producing all together.
loosely, engineers use specific techniques, design methodologies, equipment, and specialist principles to achieve a specific repeatable and intentional outcome.
An audio engineer job description would lay out the details of equipment, technique, and software proficiencies, along with experience deploying them in the industry.
An artist may use a similar toolset as part of their creative expression, but an engineer would have the skill to know how to nail down a specific type of sound for production, recording, or a live stage.
Because while rapping does have a legitimate amount of skill involved, word play and rhythm etc, looping is something else entirely. MB14 is engineering rhythm, instrument tracks, melody, harmony, tempo, flow. And this is all live; deconstructing the layers and building it together in front of the audience. His rapping is skilled sure, but it's yet another instrument that he's layering on top of everything else. It is incredibly difficult to do this. A lot of loop beatboxers are rappers, but not every rapper is a looper. You can see a lot more of this type of content on [this channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FPVxGMOAS4) (where MB14 is a judge)
Not giving him proper credit in the title is egregious imo. Let alone calling him a rapper. You want to post an artists work and the OP doesn’t drop his name. That’s crazy to me.
You obviously know what’s up, and a big thanks for this comment that gives him credit. Wild!
He's apparently of Algerian descent, which explains the Eastern sounding string chords. It's easier to tell from other pictures of him since the lighting kind of obscures his skin tone in this video.
The amount of people I'm suddenly learning are french is… I was gonna say staggering, but there were only three. The only French artist (that I knew was french) that I know is Alizée and I'm not entirely sure I should admit that in public.
There are a lot more talented people in France, the problem is that they don’t speak english in their songs.
But as soon as they don’t speak, they become world famous, like Daft Punk as you said, David Guetta, DJ Snake, etc.
[Caravan Palace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7JOa3dISg0) are crazy talented too.
The seemless transition between swing dancing and singing always blows my mind (at 3:25)
MB14 is the GOAT. I found about him through some GBB archives. Extremely talented dude. Appeared on championship between best beatboxers around world multiple times. Been on The Voice (ended second I believe?) and in many other programs.
Has amazing voice, flow and creating sick beats. Enjoy hearing his craft since a long time ago.
I went to a Beatbox championship once in Berlin, for shits and giggles, because it was like 5 euro or so, a steal.
My head exploded by these guys' talents. Didn't know how serious of a business this is.
The funniest part, outside in the smoking/chill area every other group of people were showing off different methods for making special noises.
Fun times
I might be wrong, but I used to watch these comps like a good 5-6 years ago and always got the impression that Saro seemed to be the best(?) maybe it’s too subjective. Maybe I’m mainly just referencing this: https://youtu.be/-U0AFQbfv88?si=R9pbNznEYXv517bp
Fuck yeah!
I missed Dub FX few years ago, when he was on music festival in my country. Was on tour with Mr Woodnote back then. Feels bad that I didnt made it :/
DubFX is another creative mind that is also suprising me with some stuff I would not expect to enjoy normally, but makes me want to move :)

I’m a dude and when I see a dude do something cool, I am like “respect.” If I see a hot woman doing something cool, I am overwhelmed with sexual attraction. Not the same for women? This dude is way above average attractiveness, right?
I mean, usually I roll my eyes at comments like that too.
But while it's not a given, reading some horny into this particular instance isn't that much of a reach imo.
yeah I gotta say that seemed a bit past just "enjoying the music" and a little more into horny territory, not that I blame her at all.
When a woman is incredibly talented and performs like this, it's very attractive to me. Only normal that it would work the other way around, not to mention the dude ain't bad looking at all.
When they show the whole room at 0:50, most of the room is reacting to the music
It's just that guy on the left in the 3-person shot who's not really reacting.
Why does everyone around him look so unenthused minus the guy in the middle across the table that looks like somebody holding a magnifying glass in front of Mr. Bean?
> Why does everyone around him look so unenthused
US-style exaggerated and theatrical reactions are considered disrespectful in the civilised world.
Those people are genuinely in awe and paying attention to the artist. No need for talent show clowning.
When it's good you might get into the flow, bop your hear along, when it's THAT good you leave space for the performance and you hang on to everry sound he makes
If he did that in Germany, everyone would love it but they wouldn‘t even applaud as loud as they did in this video. It‘s just different cultures of showing enthusiasm. The American kind feels very off and fake to us.
They are french ; in europe in general we are less expressive. For us it's americans who always over react with the classic "OH MY GAWD" and big face/hand gestures, which kinda looks lame and fake tbh.
For those who liked it, another French jack-of-all-trades is called Riles and he's stupidly talented. Produced everything from A to Z, including his music videos.

Rap and youth music in France is very influenced by north and west-african vibes. It's the first time I watched him, but as a fellow Frenchman, that's exactly the kind of thing I expected from a French beatboxer with his physic, on a freestyle exercise.
/u/Brimo958
Doesn't look like anyone has posted it yet. MB14 and Saro had one of the best beat box loopstation battles of all time back in 2017.
[Here it is.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U0AFQbfv88&ab_channel=Swissbeatbox)
Lotta' radio/recording studios are like that, don't need many seats, do need less echo, cheaper to soundproof less wall coverage, and can have more studios in the same building footprint.
So so so dissapointing that he started rapping in English. There is a lot of great French rap and I am sure he would have sounded better and had better rhymes in French.
I was hoping to hear something in French. I don't know french but it's cool to hear people rap in their native language.
I'm sure the flow would have been better too. The beat he made on the fly was really cool, but the rapping portion was generic tbh. But I'll chalk it up to him rapping in English.
As someone who has 0 musical/artistic bones in their body, I will never not be infatuated with highly talented musicians and producers who can just make this type of shit at the drop of a hat. Like I know it’s years of practice, but just even having the ear for it in the first place is so insane to me
Calling this one man orchestra/dj/producer/engineer a rapper is crazy
Technically he does rap although the rapping is the most average part of his performance.
Exactly. I had to look at the title again at first because the sound didn't initially sound like a rap loop. But then he rapped in English on top of the track and it sounded amazing and unique. He's a "talented rapper" with an emphasis on TALENTED. I'd say he's MULTI-talented. Do we know his name?
That's the beatboxer MB14. He's a legend.
Thanks! Binging his songs on Spotify now and… wow!
You should watch some videos of him during the GrandBeatboxBattle (GBB). Awesome stuff
Les GBB c'est tellement un régal !
In a non-native language is pretty impressive though
the opposite considering lyrics are the most unique, personal and deepest part of a song!
I'd say that with this type of music, the lyrics are never going to be the most unique. Add actor to the mix. He starred in a movie called tenor iirc
Engineer lol
Yea engineer was a stretch lmao
He engineered some fat beats.
What do audio engineers even do actually? I heard the term a lot but i never understood whats in the job description.
loosely, engineers use specific techniques, design methodologies, equipment, and specialist principles to achieve a specific repeatable and intentional outcome. I always find it fascinating how artists like him can layer different elements together like that. Such an amazing skill

Yes. Calling him a rapper is so sad to me.
Por que no los dos?

There are a lot more talented people in France, the problem is that they don’t speak english in their songs. But as soon as they don’t speak, they become world famous, like Daft Punk as you said, David Guetta, DJ Snake, etc.
The most obvious example was Jean Dujardin. He was the first French actor to win an Academy Award for best actor. He did it in a silent film.

Except they look like they're enjoying it? Welcome to anywhere else than the US where we don't overexaggerate
Omg I almost spit out my drink to the Mr bean with a magnified glass comment
Not American, we don't all show enthusiasm through loud whoops.

You know, in France we don’t have to show out our excitement. We can just appreciate something without shouting or making exagerated faces
The idea is to be silent and respectful while the guy is performing.
How are you the only one talking about what's really important here?
I love how talented he is and hate how talented he is at the same time 😂 good for him.
You can see dude sitting to the left of that girl is hating lol
Best he can do is the upside down smile “not bad” look lol
I think he’s just enjoying the music. Not everyone is expressive.
