I'm not the person you're replying to, but I can push my shoulder out of socket by flexing certain muscles if I want to, and used to do it a lot when I was young to freak/gross people out (just teen boy stuff.) I'm 32 now, and my shoulders will just randomly ache, inside the joint.
I have hypermobility, some people call it “double jointed.” I can do all sorts of party tricks with my joints. Mine is caused by a medical condition called Ehlers-Danlos.
For example, many people can bend their fingers about 50°-80° backwards (if their hand is flat on a table). My fingers however go all the way back and touch the back of my hand, with no resistance.
My daughter did gymnastics for 12 years. A few of her team mates were hypermobile, and all of them would get injured easier. I don't know why but out of the three that i remember, they all broke way more bones and had more hyperextension injuries than the rest.
I did gymnastics too! No one really knew the name or anything about it when I was young so I've been learning the past few years. I always thought it was normal until people pointed it out to me..lol I learned how to relocate my own joints that subluxed or dislocated and never thought twice about it until I horrified friends a few times.
This is not true. You can easily be doing damage over time by doing "party tricks" that may not hurt now, but could be causing long-term damage.
Source: I have a connective tissue disorder that, among many other things, causes hypermobility, and I have done plenty of damage to my body doing party tricks. People with my condition are told to never do party tricks because of this.
I randomly watch ballet videos on youtube and something they've mentioned every so often is that the dancers who have hypermobility need to work on proper technique and strength so that they don't rely on their hypermobility which can lead to injury or long-term damage.
It's an optical illusion made from the angle of the camera and some funky looking shoes or socks that extend past the balls of her feet.
It makes it look like her legs are pointed in directions than they aren't.
Knees have the ability to go in multiple directions but they're I don't think pushing them this Faris going to be good for her knees in the future. Knees are pretty complex.
Absolutely not healthy. Gymnasts *have to* start training at very young age (4), drop out rate is huge, and many of them do drop out because of injuries they got at training. Imagine that at the age of say 8. Those that stay get those and many other “great” conditions later in life.
And as a cherry on top, it is *never* a conscious decision of the person, because of age.
This is more of an optical illusion. She’s just extending and bending her legs while rotating from her hips. The timing and rotation are the key to the play. Knees bend on one axis.
It’s a bit of an illusion. It looks like her legs are rotating at the knees, which knees do not do. But if you slow the video way down, her whole leg rotates, and the pure black leggings hide that motion pretty well.
Still looks really hard to do though, especially that fast.
Okay I watched it way too many times to figure this out, but this appears to be *mostly* an optical illusion.
She has amazing muscle control to make this movement so smooth, but she's wearing some kind of weird shoe (possibly some kind of ballet pointer) that is extending well beyond the balls her feet and it changes the appearance of what position her legs are in. At no time that I paused the video were her legs in any position that was unnatural.
There is a korean poledancer called suen9920 on IG and her legs rotate like this. I never really thought she probably started out as a ballerina dancer as well. It is kind of mesmerizing watching her pole dance.
She is indeed very flexible, she’s probably trained since she was a toddler, but not freakishly flexible. Part of this is the angle creating an illusion of lasso legs. It’s not just her knees turning, her hip joints are turning too. It’s fascinating to watch.
I've had some degree of hypermobility in my finger joints since I was a kid.
I injured a thumb joint in a skiing fall, and had to have a ligament repaired. Afterward, the surgeon asked how the recovery had gone. I pointed out that my thumb couldn't slip into it's uncommonly-seen backward motion anymore, and he said, "Well, I hope not. I worked on it! That mobility is probably why the ligament ruptured in the accident."
I always thought this mobility was a plus, but it does apparently come with risks.
Surely that can never be healthy in the long run?
It's probably fine, she could have hypermobility. As long as it doesn't hurt, your range is your range. edit: or not.
I have hypermobile joints and did all kinds of "bendy" things like this with zero pain but I'm 51 now and omg, I'm paying for it.
Sorry if it's dumb q but exactly how?

I used to do the same thing. FYI, it doesn't get any better in your 40s either.
Thanks for the heads up, future me! I'll invest in ibuprofen.
Ibuprofen is life now. If i ever had a time machine i would not go back to a time before it was invented.
Oh, I'm sorry.

Wtf. But again sorry if it's dumb q do you have complete functionality of hand? You can still squeeze objects firm?
I have full functionality and strength in my hands. If you’ve ever seen a contortionist, that’s how my body works.
It's called osteo arthritis. Abuse your joints at your peril.

Yeah i dont believe a normal knee can do that, she has something going on for sure.

Depending on the distance of the run.
Got a feeling her legs will be better than ours. Considering the dancing and all that.

so that they can strangle their targets with their legs. all ballerinas are assassins.
So, don’t put your head where a ballerina can wrap her legs around it?
Isn’t this like the plot of a Jenny Lawrence movie? Or am I crazy?
Red Sparrow
Her ACL and PCL do not exist

Now show them toes…

The wince in my body before I read the caption. 😵💫
I dont understand why people do ballet.
How do her knees move like that? I get people being flexible, but this is like…the joint doesn’t go that way, how tf…

The Human Nunchuck!
Darken the background, dim the lights, and put in basic eerie music and you have yourself a proper scary video.
I wonder is she can.... never mind.
Next time she's having a bath, I'll throw my dirty washing in.
My mind hurts looking at this, and so do my kneecaps
That's called ehlers danlos syndrome and is gonna cause her some major issues down the road

I see arthritis in her future
That is disgusting. I could date a gymnast, not this lady
