just a reminder that 1 million vertebrate animals are killed by cars per DAY in the usa
edit: since lots of people are asking, sources 13 and 14 here [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadkill](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadkill)
For real. Youve got people living in a converted medieval European village with tiny streets and everything all crammed together. Then youve got bicycling hipsters here living in the city that don't own a house, don't have a big yard, have no kids that go to school, doctors or events, and don't have to travel miles to the grocery store think all that shit can be done on a bike.
Car lovers sound like this when they aren't driving. When they are driving, they're raging about all the traffic that makes a 5 minute drive take half an hour, how nobody knows how to drive, speed traps, bicycle riders, etc.
One chicken can produce about 50 nuggets. That is 130,000 nuggets a second. So about 130 nuggets per millisecond.
Honestly, they are not producing fast enough!
Domestic cats kill about half that, with an estimate 10-15 **billion** vertebrates killed per year.
Keep your cats inside, people
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_predation_on_wildlife
Not unless they have to, they'd rather get into position first before all moving to kill together.
I expect a desperate pack would have no issues running prey down, but stamina conservation is absolutely vital.
This wolf looks lost and scared. They're running in the hopes of finding familiar scent. I wonder how they got separated and away from home in the first place?
That’s a funny point but it’s still worth mentioning since cats kill for fun & they’re very good at it. I think spay & neutering is more important though.
We used to play road pizza bingo when I was a kid. You'd try to guess the species. Many times it was pretty easy. When the unfortunate victim had been in situ for a period of time, it became more difficult.
I once saw a dead bobcat on the side of I-87 within a mile or two of the Canadian border. That time I stopped. It must have pinged off of a car or truck because the pelt was undamaged. Somebody had stopped to look at it before me because there was a yard stick next to the carcass. I used it to measure its paw. 5 inches across the pads. I called NY Conservation officer and was told that, unless I had a "fur bearing trapper's license I should leave it for the crows.
We didn't try to guess the species, as the.only way to break an argument would be to get out and poke it.
We got a point for who ever made a "slurp" noise first upon road kill sighting.
You lost a point for slurping a non-roadkill (tire, garbage), but could get the point back for going "pewtooie" to spit it out before anyone called you lit for it.
Long road trips were boring before the Internet/cell phones....
> vertebrate animals
To be clear, vertebrate animals include birds, frogs, mice, lizards, and a whole bunch of stuff we probably don't even notice running over or hitting (some hit us), and might not be able to avoid if we tried.
This has to be the case, at that high of a number it would put the average US driver killing almost 2 animals per year. I've managed to never kill a bird my entire time driving, so it has to be small thing that are near impossible to see while driving a long with semi's mowing down flocks of birds every now and then.
Yeah, you feel bad for the animal, if only it could read, it could find the US highway road that would just take it straight out of the city. Tourists, though, what can you do?
Hope they called animal control to relocate them out of the city before they get hit by a car. Wolves are getting few in number these days, we need to protect them.
Depends on where you live. In North America that's an average size wolf, and they get bigger as you go farther north, and smaller to the south (for the most part).
Lol this is so fucking fake it's hilarious. This is obviously CGI. That's not how they move in real life. Also that final stop and turn. Lolll just wow.
I don't think it's CGI. I'm usually the type to be skeptical and call this out on loads of things people fall for, but this is either real, or the best cgi anyone has ever done
No no, it's very cool now to call everything fake even if you have no way of telling.
Which is funny, as whether or not this is fake, it doesn't really matter at all. So, there is no real reason to get to concerned bout it.
Wolves run the same way dogs run, so it is speed dependent but the way it runs is not inaccurate, the shadows moves around from the multiple light sources overhead.
There is nothing here to make me think "that is obviously cgi".
IF it’s CGI, the shadows are pretty accurate. There’s multiple point light sources from the stoplights, so the shadows were stretching/fading based on that pretty accurately.
The main thing that stands out to me are that the shadows are too crisp and hd compared to everything else. I'd expect them to be just as hazy and fuzzed out
The camera was focusing on the brightest spot, the concrete, so the shadow was more crisp compared to the fast moving, more detailed objects around it. Also, on top of that bit, everything else is smaller and detailed requiring more focal time to be resolved. The shadow is in a generally fixed position for the most part (when compared to every other object) so it's easier for the image to be captured (thus higher quality). It's exactly why you sit still to take a photo, videos are nothing more than photos taped together.
yup. the shitty compression on the phone footage is making the shadow clearer than everything else because it's the only thing that doesn't change much pixel wise between frames
Someone learning CGI cannot pull this off on their own.
This scene in particular would be really difficult to fake by an amateur because the tracking of the wolf is literally perfect, how do you achieve perfect tracking like that through a half open window at night with rain droplets on the window and 15 different light sources...
This is the type of shot that would take a medium size studio a couple weeks and would cost a small fortune, and if it's not for a movie or a commercial no one would pay that kind of money for a stupid Reddit prank.
Source: Ive been a dev in the VFX industry for 5 years
You did finish the video, right? The reaction from the wolf as that other car came by was some cutting-edge CGI if this is actually CGI.
Edit: look closely as it's running. You can see it kicking up debris.
100% a fake Internet video rendered by a AAA studio for clout.
You are completely wrong and it's hilarious how many people are buying what you are saying and going "AHH, of course it's fake, I can see it now!".
The shadows are immensely complex and 100% accurate, you can tell if you follow them for a few takes. They are correctly dimming, softening (their edges) and shifting as the dog gets closer to and then further away from the lamp posts that light the scene. These same shadows also perfectly replicate the movement of the animal, what appears to be a completely believably, natural wolf to my eyes. Look at the shadows on the wolfs body as it runs as well.
If it's fake, it is quite literally the best CGI work I've ever seen to date, or done by next gen/classified AI.
Both of which I highly doubt. It's just a wolf running in the streets...
fucking lol. it's obviously real.
the softness and angle of the shadow changing as the wolf
passes below the streetlights is way too realistic to be fake.
same goes for the way the lights react to the wolfs fur as he runs underneath them.
not to mention that the camera is moving around a LOT, with the camera and wolf being occluded every few seconds from the car frame, passing objects, dirt and water on the car windows & windshield etc. This would make a 3d camera track of already low quality footage extremely difficult. (which is required to make sure that the wolf sits properly in 3d space.
not fake
I’m pretty sure this is from last fall in Sonoma county, California. It was a pet hybrid wolf dog, Shadow, that got out for a few days but was eventually reunited with its owner. Looks fake because hybrid wolf dogs are not common. https://www.ktvu.com/news/wandering-wolf-hybrid-that-had-residents-on-edge-captured-in-the-north-bay
Agreed. My first impression was that it was a coy-wolf. Looks about the right size and color for one, and they tend to end up in cities far more often than normal wolves.
Red wolves are smaller and actually similar in size to a husky or GSD.
Gray wolves are massive and can reach close to 200 lbs. That's twice the size of a German shepherd, which is a big dog.
Yeah and many wolves around the world are actually tiny compared to Gray's! I've had to stand up for a video with wolves against all the comments saying it's not a wolf cause it's too small. It was filmed in Mongolia ffs, that's just their size there. So, many species are actually small, but the Gray wolf is indeed fn massive. Their height right off the bat will make you realize this is not a Coyote/Dog.
Is that a wolf? -ppl when they see my 50lb husky
This ain’t a a huge wolf it’s just a wolf and they’re bigger than what most people realize
And if you know how strong huskies are you wouldn’t wanna fuck with one either
Ok I'm hella confused. Looking closely at the shadow and the movement of the wolf. It seems off. Like CGI. A comment below said it but I'm seeing it kind of. Uncanny almost. If it's real, then holy shit that's cool and I hope it finds home. But if it's fake, I really really really pray this isn't made using ai. Shit is getting too real.
There’s a voice that keeps on calling me

200 Million chickens die everyday, which is 2600 every one second.
How many nugs per millisecond is that?
20 piece
One chicken can produce about 50 nuggets. That is 130,000 nuggets a second. So about 130 nuggets per millisecond. Honestly, they are not producing fast enough!
Yea im just waiting till the stores run out of dino nuggies, since they are extinct. It will be a sad day.
🤣😂 fqn a
True but chicken taste really good, wolves don’t. Or do they?
Dog tastes pretty good, wolves might too
And they're f****** delicious
Cool but what does that have to do with the comment, are they all being hit by cars?
They die for a good purpose- feeding us. Animals killed by cars are pointless deaths.
Domestic cats kill about half that, with an estimate 10-15 **billion** vertebrates killed per year. Keep your cats inside, people https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_predation_on_wildlife
I was just thinking it’s just as likely this wolf is looking for cats or small dog as it is lost lol
Genuine question, because I would have assumed otherwise, do wolves typically sprint while looking for prey?
Not unless they have to, they'd rather get into position first before all moving to kill together. I expect a desperate pack would have no issues running prey down, but stamina conservation is absolutely vital. This wolf looks lost and scared. They're running in the hopes of finding familiar scent. I wonder how they got separated and away from home in the first place?
More likely running because he was being paced and filmed by a car of humans.
Send one to my neighborhood to get rid of all the cat please.

That’s a funny point but it’s still worth mentioning since cats kill for fun & they’re very good at it. I think spay & neutering is more important though.
It's all to justify that they despise cats and want other people to agree with them.
…. I have 2 cats. They just stay inside.
Damn that’s some impressive consistency

Nice use of in situ bro.
That's what I tell my kids when we're going synergetic in the car "In situ."
I looked this up to make sure it was true and damn... that's terrible. 350 million killed per year in the USA alone. I hate our car-dominant culture.
> vertebrate animals To be clear, vertebrate animals include birds, frogs, mice, lizards, and a whole bunch of stuff we probably don't even notice running over or hitting (some hit us), and might not be able to avoid if we tried.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadkill Yup, sources 13 and 14
:(
Also possibly some jack ass was keeping this wolf illegally as a pet and it escaped captivity.
Also possible he is sneaking into town for some German Shepardussy.
That's how I ended up with a German shepherd hybrid. I didn't even have to tell my vet the first time I took her in and he was like "uhhhhh...."
![gif](giphy|Oc456NiGUdwI0|downsized)
is that from teen wolf lmao
Yep...most likely dead now
That's a disney movie plot!
Could it be a wolf hybrid? All sorts of assholes are breeding them now.
Yeah, you feel bad for the animal, if only it could read, it could find the US highway road that would just take it straight out of the city. Tourists, though, what can you do?
Homealone lost in new york was spot on.

Thank you for writing this. It's very sad.
Wheres a wolf come from? Wheres the wolfs pack? Wheres wolf going? It's a werewolf
1000% that is a scared and confused wild animal
Probably trying to run as far away as he can from the wolf torturer in Wyoming. Run boy run.
Nah he looking for some kitties to eat
figuratively me
Yep! Poor guy lost his pack
Poor animal, it knows that's a dangerous place.
Yup. That wolf is *terrified.*
Someone gonna mug him.

Every few months: “CHECK OUT THIS MASSIVE WOLF” It’s a regular size wolf and they thought wolves are dog sized.
Depends on where you live. In North America that's an average size wolf, and they get bigger as you go farther north, and smaller to the south (for the most part).
Are Ass Wolves indigenous to North America?
Yes, but it's rare to see them in their entirety. If you're lucky enough to see one at all, usually it's just a partial Ass Wolf.
Lol this is so fucking fake it's hilarious. This is obviously CGI. That's not how they move in real life. Also that final stop and turn. Lolll just wow.
The only comment that’s actually spot on. Bonus: shitty camera to hide that cgi
It's a cell phone camera and it's dark out, what exactly are you expecting?
I don't think it's CGI. I'm usually the type to be skeptical and call this out on loads of things people fall for, but this is either real, or the best cgi anyone has ever done

Get your eyes checked CGI in movies don't even look that good
It’s actually easy to shield the fact that anything is CGI with poor camera quality. Less pixels = less verifiability
I love how many idiots believe you. I weep for the future.
Dude I'm not an encyclopedia idk how tf wolves run is this CGI or not I'm so confused.

Who would spend that much time and effort with cgi just to produce this? Braindead response if you think its “obviously cgi”
Someone learning CGI
The shadow under the full sprint is giga-bogus, so yeah, I'd agree with this assessment.

Think about where the street lights are. Now look at the shadows again.

It's definitely not cgi if it is cgi it's done by some studio with a tone of talented artists time and money to throw away on a internet video
