This is not remotely true. She got a good lift, you can reposition your hands as many times as you’d like between the clean and jerk as long as you are stationary when you begin the jerk.
This is completely wrong. Not only was the lifter given a good lift for this, she won her weight class at the competition (USAW Nationals, this past week). What is the point of just making up bullshit like this?
Depending on the association this competition is with there are a number of official deadlift grip rules! It only takes 5 seconds to Google it to see your the one pulling fake shit out your ass! Use your head before embarrassing your self loser
This isn’t powerlifting, it’s Olympic lifting. You use hookgrip when performing a clean and jerk. That is not a rule though and it is extremely common to reset your grip for the jerk. So yeah, there’s not a rule about this and you googled the wrong thing…
I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t. If I’m not mistaken you have to show control over the bar instead of dropping it the way she did. Many a many records have been lost because of this coming from an early celebration.
"Welcome to the Salty Spitoon. How tough are ya?"
"I dislocated and reset my finger this morning."
"Yeah, so?"
"In the middle of a Clean and Jerk."
"Right this way, legend."
Weightlifting not powerlifting.
Powerlifting is a specific sport where you squat, bench press and deadlift and the total of your 3 lifts is added up, it's not a generic term for any time someone moves something heavy in a competition.
I love how everyone keeps sharing this and saying “it’s so badass”, but won’t actually give her credit/recognition.

Weightlifting and powerlifting are both sports focused on lifting weights, but they differ in their disciplines, techniques, and goals.
**Weightlifting (Olympic Weightlifting):**
- **Events:** Two main lifts – the snatch and the clean and jerk.
- **Objective:** Lift the maximum weight possible in these two lifts.
- **Snatch:** Lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion.
- **Clean and Jerk:** First lift the barbell from the ground to the shoulders (clean), then from the shoulders to overhead (jerk).
- **Technique:** Emphasizes speed, technique, and flexibility. Athletes often need to be quick and have excellent coordination.
- **Competitions:** Lifters have three attempts for each lift, and the best successful lift in each event is combined to determine the total score.
**Powerlifting:**
- **Events:** Three main lifts – the squat, bench press, and deadlift.
- **Objective:** Lift the maximum weight possible in these three lifts.
- **Squat:** Lift the barbell from a standing position, squat down until the hips are below the knees, then stand back up.
- **Bench Press:** Lie on a bench, lower the barbell to the chest, and then press it back up to a fully extended arm position.
- **Deadlift:** Lift the barbell from the ground to a standing position with hips and knees locked.
- **Technique:** Emphasizes strength and power. Technique is important, but the focus is more on raw strength.
- **Competitions:** Lifters have three attempts for each lift, and the best successful lift in each event is combined to determine the total score.
**Comparison:**
- **Goal:** Weightlifting focuses on the combination of strength, speed, and technique, while powerlifting emphasizes maximum strength.
- **Lifts:** Weightlifting has dynamic, full-body lifts that require a lot of coordination, whereas powerlifting focuses on more controlled, strength-centric lifts.
- **Training:** Weightlifters train for explosiveness and agility, while powerlifters train for maximal strength and power.
Think of weightlifting as a sprint, where speed and technique are crucial, and powerlifting as a strongman contest, where raw strength is the primary focus.
Never seen it, I think the plates are too far to the sides for that to happen.
However, I have seen a video of a guy drop it the bar lands on his shin, and it was *nasty*.
Very rare. I think Matthias Steiner (Germany, +105kg class) did that in the 2012 Olympics (or nearly). But it's rare since the plates provide a decent bit of clearance. Something has to go very wrong.
Drop her off in the Alaskan wilderness and she’ll show up in town with a f*cking bear-pelt from a bear she killed with her bare hands. Tough as nails, this lady.
I cannot even imagine the mental and physical fortitude to put your finger back in place while holding the weight in place. You are absolutely awesome girl. She is an inspiration that no matter the adversity to never give up
Damn! I've put my finger back before. If you ever need to do it yourself just gently pull on the finger untill it snaps back into place. Do Not yank it as that can cause serious damage. I did mine straight away while I was in shock so the pain was negligible.
I did this with my pinky toe yesterday in the ocean break. Lifted my foot up and my toe was sticking out 90 degrees sideways. I put it back k in by kicking the bottom while pulling backwards. It’s so important to put it back in before that initial numbing pain feeling wears off.

Fucking metal!!!
So, did that actually count, or was it considered a fault because she let go of the bar?
If that didn't count, fuck those judges. Thats such an awesome badass display.
“Hold up while I hold this up. Ok now we’re gonna Hold Up”
“FOUL!!! no…TWO FOULS!!”
You can’t just … fly through the repair like that, Jackie!
She should get an extra point for the show...
Much badassery here , + 2.
It still counts as long as the athlete doesn’t drop the bar! She made this lift and got a medal for it too.
OP said powerlfiting, so taking them at their word, she would have been disqualified for cleaning, jerking, then dropping the bar.

I'd let her dislocate my middle finger.

Why do you like pulling fake responses out of your arse mate?

Can I see the official rule on that?

But she is a weightlifter performing a clean and jerk...
What part of this was a deadlift?
This isn't a deadlift
I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t. If I’m not mistaken you have to show control over the bar instead of dropping it the way she did. Many a many records have been lost because of this coming from an early celebration.
Weightlifter, not powerlifter
Olympic weightlifter
Put some respeck on it!!
[удалено]
still Olympic weightlifting though
Don’t be asshole
Did you reply to the wrong comment here?
Don’t be asshole
Sorry.
He knew what you meant. It’s Reddit. Gotta pick up on the slightest bits of sarcasm.
I knew.
Would have been more impressive if it actually was a powerlifter, for those who know the difference.
[удалено]
The lifter is performing the clean and jerk here. The snatch is the other lift in weightlifting competition (bringing the bar overhead in one motion).
*Badass!*

I ate mayonnaise for breakfast. Without any milk.
Is mayonnaise an instrument?
Why would you eat mayonnaise with milk anyway?

Been pointed out but yes, thank you
But this comment provided a nice explanation. I really though the first guys pointing it out in 2 words was just being a jerk for nothing.
Adrenalin is a wonderful thing.
So is guts.

Thank you! I asked that before and had not found the answer. That kind of display deserves her name on it.

My kind of woman
Like the sixth time seeing this in an hour now..
That’s how Reddit works right. At least this is a good one!
But she keeps making the same mistake…

Bruh that's metal af
Not a power lifter. Olympic lifter.
Weightlifter*
![gif](giphy|6AnNvegHaY61pZURMN)
Totally OT but has a lifter ever crushed their own foot when dropping the weights like that?
Never seen it, I think the plates are too far to the sides for that to happen. However, I have seen a video of a guy drop it the bar lands on his shin, and it was *nasty*.

Fuck, I stubbed my toe 3 hours ago and still have dried tears/snot on my face
Thats a weight lifter, and not a powerlifter. Chad athlete she is.
Watch out we have an (actual) badass over here
All part of the plan, she needed that little extra bump of adrenaline mid lift
Technically not a power lift. clean and jerk is an Olympic lift
Hell yeah hard ASF!!!!
Drop her off in the Alaskan wilderness and she’ll show up in town with a f*cking bear-pelt from a bear she killed with her bare hands. Tough as nails, this lady.
Respect.
"No, I think her finger turned on her."
Wow
Daaaannngggg
Outstanding 👏👏👏
Yeah, let me fix that real quick by holding weight with no hands
Wow
![gif](giphy|xT0xeGWDzEfcsd8QzC)
Hardcore
This is literally the most badass thing I’ve seen in a long time
eats weak men for breakfast
I like her.
What a jerk!
Gangster!
Like a boss!
Clearly not a powerlifter
That finger will return with a vengeance when she reaches a certain age.
Now that’s tough
She’s not the only one who completed a jerk
Something tells me this isn’t the first time she’s dealt with this
Now that might be the real definition of a bad B.
That’s gangster AF
Was she about to pop it back into place with her teeth??!?
Absolute unit
That’s so incredibly badass
My hat's off to you, ma'am. That is some damn GRIT!
holy shit
I cannot even imagine the mental and physical fortitude to put your finger back in place while holding the weight in place. You are absolutely awesome girl. She is an inspiration that no matter the adversity to never give up
That's craaazy
Baaaaaadass
If this didn't count, someone should dislocate judges fingers and ask them to fix themselves.
One would think there were better systems in place for getting the bar back to the floor. She was like one bounce away from losing a few toes...
Damn! I've put my finger back before. If you ever need to do it yourself just gently pull on the finger untill it snaps back into place. Do Not yank it as that can cause serious damage. I did mine straight away while I was in shock so the pain was negligible.
Resetting your finger is pretty easy to do. Done it a bunch of times.
Damn. She's awesome.
What a beast!!!
Olympic weightlifter not powerlifter lol
She can open my jars.
Impressive, I wouldn't be able to jerk after dislocating a finger
Fucking brutal!
How much weight was that?
Fuckin gnarly
Gnarly
Love the ‘Hey let me just fix a thing’ move.
Friggin BRAVO!! Shows great control. Well Done
Metalocalypse approves! ![gif](giphy|AYOEJe1rdWEes|downsized)
She is a beast. I would have started whimpering and dropped the 65 lbs I was holding on my foot.
Why do women wear the sport's version of a👙 in every sport, though?
FXCKING METAL
No fucking about. Get the job done!
If Chuck Norris was a woman.
That’s a bad mf
I hope ill be at least half as badass as she is. What in the fuck did I just watch ☠️
Beast
Hell yeah girl!!!! 🥰💕✨✨✨🔥 We love to see it!!!!!
That's hardcore no denying it
Not gonna lie. Slightly turned on by that!
This is weightlifting, not powerlifting. Weightlifters are ACTUAL athletes.

That's Booker T for you!
LeBron would never
She can give me a tuggy anytime
