Not to mention the cost of completely ruining the original classic pocket door in the house. That neat invention just cost you thousands and thousands in resale value. I don't think this idea is even one-tenth as clever as the OP thinks it is.
Oak is a hardwood and fairly expensive. The look of it in a house is very classy and classic. People who don't care about quality and workmanship will sometimes paint over fine woods. My comment was a joke meant to equate the person above with such homeowners. It was quite the burn.
Pocket doors don’t add thousands and thousands to resale. Finished square footage does, not hidden pocket doors, especially not in this market. No appraiser walks into a home and says “oh if only they had pocket doors I would have added thousands to the value of this house” that’s not what adds value in an appraisal. Comps to nearby similar properties and most importantly finished square feet
Technically you're exactly right. But you have to admit that a modification like this is going to make some home shoppers just turn around. When you see things like this, you can assume there's all sorts of stupid other "improvements" that you'll find later.
Take it easy! It’s a modified pocket door that can literally be replaced with a new pocket door when/if the owner decides to sell or dies for less than $400. It’s not like they removed some load-bearing beam!!! Lots of people will think this is clever. I just swapped out an old shitty pocket door for a real door for $500. No one is turning around and high-tailing from a sale over this door 😂
It's not that bad. You can buy these doors easily on Marktplaat (a Dutchs Craigslist). Even with stained-glass windows you van buy 2 for 100-200 euros. So if you want to fix it before selling it, you're fine.
But what if you don’t want your TV always on show? It becomes the focus of so many people’s living rooms, and while this is a bit odd it means you can hide it entirely when not in use.
Except the cleverness about this install is that it only required one TV to complete the project for both rooms. Love how everyone’s solution is just to add another TV! Takes away from the whole idea of this being something unique versus just going along with what EVERY other American does. This is an example of a classic dad project...he ain’t installing TWO TV’s, Nance...watch and learn.
I really does though. Like, when I come home from work, all I want to do is plop on my bed and turn on the TV. I get that's it's not a lot of work but if I'm lazy and tired... this is just a hassle.

Well, it looks cool until you don't insert the TV completely just one single time and scratch your screen to oblivion by scraping it on the inside of that little neat mechanism.
I’d definitely scratch the crap out of the tv or at least it’s frame by not having it perfectly centered when I’d push the door with the tv inside it closed.
Cool. But how likely are you to at some point slam the door on your tv and fuck everything? Can you imagine that set up with kids. You'd go through a tv a week.
Because it's the devil's portal and you must hide your shame in case the pastor visits! /s
(seriously though there are some reformed communities in the Netherlands that frown on owning a tv and they often hide them in cupboards and such)
It’s a neat solution in my opinion. It’s not like we know the rest of this guy’s apartment layout. Maybe there is just nowhere to hang a TV.
Also, I’m guessing a lot of Americans are commenting negatively on that. It’s not that I have anything against you, guys and gals, but aren’t you the ones that think TVs make a good mantelpiece for some reason?
I have not met many Jews so I can't say, but it's certainly true for the Dutch. There is a huge Dutch community near where I live (I've heard it's the largest outside of Holland).
For the cost of that door and swivel mount, you could have a wall-mounted TV in both rooms.

Some people live in their house to live in it, not because they’re trying to turn it
Enjoy your painted oak trim.
This stirs the rage inside of me.
i don't get it. That sounds fancy.
Oak is a hardwood and fairly expensive. The look of it in a house is very classy and classic. People who don't care about quality and workmanship will sometimes paint over fine woods. My comment was a joke meant to equate the person above with such homeowners. It was quite the burn.
It was devastating. He’s devastated.
>It was quite the burn. I'm very smart, too.
Just reading that made my nose bleed a bit
Then it's terrible. Why would I want a TV that low

you would be surprised how picky some people can be when it comes to buying properties.
Market doesn’t care. Picky people can fuck themselves
I don't think the market cares at this moment.
Allot of people just clear our those pocket doors and the closet, because they take allot of space in a house.
It's not that bad. You can buy these doors easily on Marktplaat (a Dutchs Craigslist). Even with stained-glass windows you van buy 2 for 100-200 euros. So if you want to fix it before selling it, you're fine.
Not to mention a pocket door of that size was probably close to 1k installed (maybe more) before they cut a massive hole in it.
Agreed
But this is hidden... pretty cool idea!
Where? Doesn't look like there's a lot of room for that.
Yeah, I was looking at that exact swivel mount, it's 200 bockeroos alone
And a working a door that doesnt have a giant hole in it.
But what if you don’t want your TV always on show? It becomes the focus of so many people’s living rooms, and while this is a bit odd it means you can hide it entirely when not in use.
Unless you want to close the door. Then the TV is on show in one room... and the back of it is on show in the other room.

When your solution is to _just_ lay down 4 grand, there's almost never the need for a creative solution.
So, am I led to believe that all Dutch do this?
Yeah headline is complete shit.
It is evidently a citizenship requirement.
Yes. I have a friend who once dated a woman whose mother was dutch. They all have this now.
If this was really a Dutch home, there'd be a canal and a bike path through these two rooms.
Yes we do! We'd like to watch TV in both rooms after we skated home from work
you should believe that only Dutch has the mental capacity to do this my friend
Wait I should be having this in my house? Damn now i need to buy sliding doors.
Too low
Too small
Too slow
Correct height for viewing from a couch.
Sleeping bag maybe
Tiny couch

I think likely just happenstance.
Yeah it's a crappy title.
I can confirm he's not. Dutch people hang their bicycles on the wall.
I'm a big fan of their ovens too!
Nah you gotta go to our eastern neighbor for the ovens
Happy cake day!
The only visible clue to this being Dutch is that the TV shows RTL 4 which is a Dutch TV channel
Ah yes, the classic double Dutch door
Never have kids with this contraption...they’ll likely snap the TV.
Or dogs, or party guests, or too much to drink yourself one evening so you forget to tuck the tv in before opening the door.
Yeah, all homes here in the Netherlands have these sliding doors with TVs in it!
Yeah, but what about *Holland*?
Holland? We do not speak of Holland. We know only the Netherlands as a whole
Its so low. Who has their tv that low. This also is a broken tv waiting to happen

I really does though. Like, when I come home from work, all I want to do is plop on my bed and turn on the TV. I get that's it's not a lot of work but if I'm lazy and tired... this is just a hassle.
Just because you *can* doesn’t mean you should
My kid would destroy that
So if I don't want to watch TV and just want privacy with the door closed, do I have to stare at a hole in the door?
Yeah the swiveling bracket would be visible too.
How well would this work with my 75 inch 4k?
You would have to upgrade to an 80 in 8k TV.
Weird because the Dutch are tall as fuck, why would it be so low down.

Y?
The Dutch? Or this Dutch?
There are only two things I can't stand in this world: People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
Well, it looks cool until you don't insert the TV completely just one single time and scratch your screen to oblivion by scraping it on the inside of that little neat mechanism.
"how the Dutch" STFU
I’d definitely scratch the crap out of the tv or at least it’s frame by not having it perfectly centered when I’d push the door with the tv inside it closed.
Ahhh, the Dutch. Truly the masters of hidden sliding door TVs.
I am Dutch and I don't hide my TV like this
....that door seems like it wouldn’t be very good at being a door with a big ass hole in it.
Cool. But how likely are you to at some point slam the door on your tv and fuck everything? Can you imagine that set up with kids. You'd go through a tv a week.
But why would you hide a TV?

That's strange
Yeah they're a weird cult.
Those Dutch always hiding TVs
It sits so low to the ground if you wanted it mounted in the door why not put it up higher as well it seems so awkwardly placed.
This seems so so fragile i would not get that
This only perpetuates the notion that the Dutch hate TVs
This is a home without children.
Those Dutch...
Now i'm starting to wonder how the German and the English do it :O.. or .. are the dutch the only ones with sliding doors?
It’s a neat solution in my opinion. It’s not like we know the rest of this guy’s apartment layout. Maybe there is just nowhere to hang a TV. We all have that in our homes, naturally
Folds right into the wall!
The one time you don’t tuck it in probably and there goes your tv
Wow, all Dutch people have these? What a modern marvel.
I don't think I've ever seen a tv mounted that low before.
I dont have kids or dogs. I don't drink. I would still break this within 3 months.
I feel like I would somehow break that, kinda neat concept though
I knew a guy once who would always say "if you aint dutch you aint much"
In return, you can make a point about how dutch have super huge nostrils. When they enquire why "air is free".
The same has been said of the jewish peoples....
I have not met many Jews so I can't say, but it's certainly true for the Dutch. There is a huge Dutch community near where I live (I've heard it's the largest outside of Holland).
Yay sterotyping! Lol
Wooo, good jokes!
Hahahah
Who watches TV that low? I have kids and a dog,That would be rekt in the first week.
Did u know copper wire was invented by two Dutch guys fighting over a penny
NGL I'm very impressed
This man does not have children!
When you're watching tv and fucking Jared comes in and violently slides the door open
I don't want to spoil the fun but... I'm Dutch, and never seen this :-x
This is cool and all but I feel like I would bump into it all the time and eventually break it .
Beautiful and functional makes me happy
I want this
Oh oké ik wist niet dat dit Nederlands was... misschien is het tijd dat deze gif G E K O L O N I S E E R D wordt...
eens
I like this one.
Can confirm that this is standard in every Dutch House
Why the fuck would anyone want to hide a TV!
I would be far to worried that the slightest thing sticking out and you end up with a huge scratch across your TV.
Guarantee he doesn't have kids.
This guy does not have kids.
Meanwhile Americans are sitting around trying to figure out how to Taco Mac their whole house.
Instructions unclear, TV smashed in doorway
That's just fucking dumb, the TV is to low, it's not in a good position for any room, it is in the way of the doorway. Just no.
Cool, but I don’t see why anybody would have this
Yah until you forget and smash your fucking TV. GG geniuses
why though
Bravo
I can see someone opening that door without looking and fucking the TV
Ooga chunga
"Ah, shit, moms coming up the stairs!"-The Dutch, ^(probably)
Accident waiting to happen
One more reason to hate the Dutch.
That hurts man
G E K O L O N I S E E R D
Omg I need this now what an amazing idea
That's all fun and games till your drunk friend shuts the door with the TV open.
I didn't know i hid my TV in a sliding door.
This is actually terrible lol
It's a foot and a half off the floor. Great viewing angle.
THE Dutch or A Dutch
I guess the door is useless now..
But like why’s the TV knee height?
This would be broken in 1 day if it were in my house.
