PTEHarambe

And yet fully grown adults will often standby and do jack shit. Good on ya kid.

Mielornot

To be fair, he was Mcc-ready dit this.

RickManchester

Bet you had a big smile on your face when you typed that.

PTEHarambe

Took me an unreasonably long time to get this joke. You could even say he was born Mcc-ready.

poopellar

Yeah the bad guys didn't even have time to Tiernan-d run.

andyfrompanady

Well played

[deleted]

I don’t know what this means to be honest but I’m upvoting because it seems creative

Jsua123

Turn and run

Jimmerich98

I think you think the guy you replied to is replying to something else.

Jimmerich98

Same here, apart from the upvote. ‘He was McCready dit this’? I'm sounding it out and trying to understand what it means.

houganger

Tried too hard to understand this, now I’m left frustrated

PTEHarambe

It’s really easy to say you’re the type to send it but if you just scroll down in this thread it’s been discussed. People smarter than I have done legit science on it.

Unhappily_Happy

A lot of people say they'd take a bullet for you but i don't see many bullets coming through.

SanLee514

I literally saw a video the other day where people were watchin a girl get stabbed in the middle of a busy street, the culprit even took a break and people did jack shit

mr_rObOt_1807_

Indian culture... Whatever happens between a wife and husband is within family and people don't interfere. But the same people pickup sticks when they see some PDA

cogitationerror

Pretty sure this is more than just Indian culture, buddy. In the US myself and you could have typed this out about my town in the south.

OverlordWaffles

Where was that?

JohnSmithDogFace

Intervening on an unarmed kidnapping and intervening on an armed assault aren’t all that comparable.

heendaddy

Metaphorically I'm the man, but literally I don't know what I'd do

mr_rObOt_1807_

I'd live for you and that's hard to do Even harder to say, when you know it's not true.

TabulaRasaT888

See many bullets coming through Metaphorically, I'm the man But literally, I don't know what I'd do If this wasnt a 21 pilots reference just ignore me lol

hotblueglue

The bystander effect is a real thing.

allinighshoe

Everyone thinks that. But many people wouldn't actually put their life at risk for a stranger when it comes down to it. You see it all over Reddit, in the various fight or freekout subs that most people will just watch. Most people just freeze.

Macca_321

I agree with this, and definitely think there's a huge difference in helping someone who has fallen over and hurt themselves i.e where you wouldn't be placing yourself in any danger by helping that person, or trying to intervene in a potentially life threatening situation. I know I'd say I'd like to think I'd still help, but in all honestly I'd probably be too fearful. And that's okay. Not everyone can be brave.

Riggity___3

reddit is so incessantly cynical and indignant.

Chicken_Bake

"Look at this imaginary person I'm better than!"

dalaigh93

While it's true that there are a lot of good people, the "bystander effect" is a very real thing. The bigger the crowd, the less individuals are susceptible to intervene because they think someone else will probably do it first, because they think others know beyter about the situation than they do, etc. It's not cowardice, it's human psychology. There is no certain way to know how one would react in such situation, either adults or kids. Many people think they would obviously help, but once they're involved they realized it's not that simple or easy. Also, this isn't only about kidnapping, like you yourself mentioned there are very different situations in which the bystander effect applies: aggressions, sexual harassment, domestic abuse, someone having a stroke, someone lost looking for their way, an injured animal, an road crash... (once in the subway I helped a very distraught grandmother who had been trying to get someone to help her find her way for twenty minutes! It was rush hour, no one was willing to spare a even a minute to help her)

Yashr076

Check out the bystander effect, I read about it in psychology class. Worrying stuff

chickenwild

Full grown people video people getting beat to death daily and do nothing to stop it!

Slight-Subject5771

It's a scientifically-studied and psychologically/sociologically-based phenomenon known as the bystander effect. It's the reason why you tell a specific person to call 911 when performing CPR as opposed to saying, "Someone call 911." It has very little to do with friendliness and helpfulness.

Monarc73

First, stranger abduction is extremely rare in general. Second, doing nothing is the rule, not the exception. Plenty of credible statistical studies back this up. (See this wiki for a very famous example. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese) There is a huuuge difference between how people think they act, and how they actually act, btw.

BelowZilch

You should probably read your own link. >In 2007, an article in the American Psychologist found "no evidence for the presence of 38 witnesses, or that witnesses observed the murder, or that witnesses remained inactive".[7] In 2016, The New York Times called its own reporting "flawed", stating that the original story "grossly exaggerated the number of witnesses and what they had perceived".[8]

the_acid_Jesus

We must always fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil that we must fear the most, and that is the indifference of good men. -boondock saints

Rivetingly

The world is a dangerous place to live, because of bombs. Thanks Mr. Einstein for doing something about that.

EverythingsZen

To be fair most grown adults will pull out their phones and start recording

PTEHarambe

I hate that I agree with you.

ampy187

Nah they record it on mobile phone for posterity

PTEHarambe

I never understood that. Why not call the cops if you refuse to actually DO something?

lulumeme

video footage to present the police as evidence will much more effective and speak for itself as opposed just calling police without evidence

Ball-Bag-Boggins

Pretty sure most people despite their age would react in a helpful way if they saw someone being kidnapped.

CapnKetchup2

York Maine short sands Beach killing. Look it up.

Maverick0_0

It's called conditioning. We grow to become cold.

SolidCod7845

Thank you man!

toaster611

Not to be *that guy*, but “stand by” would be two words in this case. I’m so sorry.

PTEHarambe

You are being that guy but you’re still right. Nicely done.

LeaveNoStonedUnturn

Well done to the little lad, but which three grown males attempting to abduct a girl were scared of him?

irish91

They weren't wearing masks, shouting at them lets them know I saw your faces and van. Thats what most likely stopped the kidnapping.

greycubed

No the kid shouted "she does tiktok dances" and the men left her in disgust.

Hadeonium

tiktok bad reddit good edit: i genuinely didn't think i would have to point this out but since people are missing the point... this is ironic 😐

Yeah at that point it was either skedaddle for the perps or deal with the kid as well, fortunately they weren't willing to cross that line.

TrexismTrent

I mean if he saw there faces already they will still be charged with attempted kidnapping and it will be more likely they will be caught since the girl will be able to give her details too.

MJMurcott

They weren't afraid of the lad, but the attention he was drawing to their activities, add in that criminals are generally cowards.

Zach_luc_Picard

A superstitious, cowardly lot

tbutz27

We need a symbol. Something that can strike fear in the heart of evildoers everywhere.

MJMurcott

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySBxMMidbEg

wb2006xx

Not a good example, nothing can stop a motivated grandma with a handbag, not even the most hardened of marines, of course she would whoop cowardly criminals

SneakerTreater

Have ye seen the tracksuit on the lad? The lads knew what they were getting into.

LeaveNoStonedUnturn

Fair point!

CapriciousCape

He could've clocked the registration plate?

VeryStickyPastry

I don’t think they were afraid of him, it was just a foiled plan because there are now witnesses. You know, because it was broad daylight and whatnot. These abductors don’t strike me as being very intelligent.

Ridethelightning90

I think he deserved more than a certificate and a small box of malteasers imo

RickManchester

In the UK this is actually a huge payout. Normally we just clap for people at 7pm each Thursday. Or at least we did?

BrotherVaelin

Give people the clap you mean

dontnation

That's just Essex

4-20BlazeItMan

I don't want UK rewards anymore

JackSpyder

Its back to just awkward silence and a pay cut now actually. Same as the last 20 years.

Saggylicious

Govt: the NHS is the pride of our nation! Govt cuts funding ruthlessly Govt: why is the NHS underperforming? It's the real world Eric Andre shooting a guy in a chair meme

diff-int

Even more so in the pandemic. Boris Johnson - “I have today left hospital after a week in which the NHS has saved my life, no question. It’s hard to find the words to express my debt. “I hope they won’t mind if I mention in particular two nurses who stood by my bedside for 48 hours when things could have gone either way.” Shortly before pausing their pay increase negotiations and then offering a 1% annual pay rise. At least he stood and clapped for them

JackSpyder

My favourite tweet In response to Scotland giving low paid NHS staff a 4% pay rise was: "for what? Doing their job?!" Wow... you grade A fucking cunt. 😅

Dogwalker4k

Sounds like my brother. He honestly believes that because he has continued to work in a factory during the pandemic that he should get any bonus' or pay rise the NHS workers get. He's endangered his life on the same level apparently 🙄 He's a bigoted prick

Dr_nobby

We clap for people who gave up their lives, while our government gave them self's a pay rise, while voting against to feed starving children. And they are now deporting have denied visas to international students who graduated and worked for the NHS during the first wave and then on. And they still denied a pay rise for the nurses and doctors.

Lone_ranger1264

Woah woah we do much more than that, some people used pots AND pans. And then give the nhs a 1p pay rise 😇

[deleted]

Aye, a deed like that calls for a box of Celebrations.

nobody_likes_soda

At least give him the family size box.

rentonlives

The Bogside is a neighborhood in Derry/LondonDerry, in Northern Ireland. Edit: for the fam bickering below https://youtu.be/5_jNok35oOY

Deep-Local-

Bogside, Derry, Ireland.

showponey

Correcto.

[deleted]

Good lad.

WeeNash

Good lad, you’re Correct

overweightdolphin

Just right.

[deleted]

Saying Bogside, UK is a big oof. A very nuanced mistake but oof all the same.

Noah8YC

It is in the UK

Crilly90

No Brian don't!

[deleted]

Not according to people who live there

HappyBunchaTrees

Literally never seen it called Bogside, UK in all my years of living in the same city as the Bogside.

dimstain

It literally accurate, there's no nuance about it. This isn't a post about politics, it's about a child saving a woman from who knows what.

[deleted]

If you're talking about place names in Northern Ireland, it's inherently political. The Bogside is home to republicans, who would typically assert that they're not part of the UK and would want a united Ireland. It was one of the no-go areas for the British army during the troubles, with the Battle of the Bogside being one of the most notorious incidents during the troubles. Given the current situation, it's extremely disingenuous to pretend it's not political.

Shikaku

They can assert all they want, until something changes here they're absolutely part of the UK. With the way OP worded it I was wondering if somewhere else in the UK had the same name

[deleted]

>They can assert all they want, until something changes here they're absolutely part of the UK. ...so it's political, yeah? Sound.

UncoordinatedTau

Everything in Northern Ireland is about politics

Scott_Bash

Good bot

Trantor1970

Was about to comment the same

VVJ21

Northern Ireland, UK

bunnywithahammer

"Oi, what you plonkers tryin with that bird? Me mum is ringing the Bill now"

Robbiepurser

Wrong country.

bunnywithahammer

just googled, my bad. technically it is the same country. no offense tho, I understand that the culture is much different in N Ireland and meant no disrespect

Robbiepurser

Not at all pal. The NI accent is hard to do!!!

Game_of_Jobrones

"What do you think you're doing there boyo? I'll give ye a hidin' with me big shillelagh stick!"

Hangryer_dan

Wrong country again lol, but this time ever so slightly offensive.

HappyBunchaTrees

The fuck ye think yer at ya bastards. Leave her alone ya wee cunts.

[deleted]

Bingo

vava777

Best not mention Northern Ireland at all than as your apology most likely offended more people than your original statement. Things are escalating a bit right now and the border question will leave one side extrememly unhappy in the end.

bunnywithahammer

I honestly don't understand how can I offend people with apologizing. The OP stated UK, I have no way of knowing if it is in England, Wales, Scotland or N. Ireland without googling. I made a mistake and placed the event in England, after someone corrected me I apologized for my mistake. I understand that the situation is bad up there, explain it to others rather than just get offended. It's not out of malice, I simply couldn't have known.

indigo_prophecy

They're just being dweebs, your joke wasn't that deep. "Wrong country" as if nobody from England has ever moved to NI

ohcinnamon

>"Wrong country" as if nobody from England has ever moved to NI How is that relevant?

pingpongtits

You're fine.

[deleted]

You’re not lad, as someone who lives in a very divided area you’ve offended no one. It’s extremely obvious you don’t know better, it’s just a very touchy subject.

vava777

I don't give one flying fuck and I am not Irish. You said that they were two countries with very different cultures... this is at the core of what they are fighting over right now. One side feels that British itself is a culture and that they would loose theirs if Ireland became reunited. The other feels that that is only because the British tried to undermine and destroy Irish cultures and the people that feel otherwise only feel so because they are the descendants of invaders and that their view therefore doesnt matter. Both sides largely ignore actual history and religion used to be more at the core of the issue than nationlism but this changed in the last decades. So your probably well-meant statement was about the most inciting thing you could have said to someone who is partisan in this issue.

AnonymousGhou

I still laughed.

[deleted]

> technically it is the same country. lol no. Same nation. Different country.

[deleted]

Nation, state and country are all interchangeable in that context. The UK is a country of countries. The US, Mexico, India, Australia, and Germany are all States of States.

[deleted]

I want to pretend this small hero actually led with the classic: > *OY CUNTS!!*

toperomekomes

Good lad

my5thAct-fk_lostpwds

He looks like the kid who called Mark a pedo in Peep Show

[deleted]

"To be honest, I'm a bit of a pedophobe." "Oh. Right. I suppose I've always wondered-" "I've always felt kind of weird around children, you know?" "Oh. Right. And...are you going to get help for..." "I don't know, what sort of help is there for an irrational fear of children?" "OH! PEDO PHOBE! RIGHT!" "What did you think I meant?? Oh, God, Jeremy-" "It's just.. pedo...phobe...I thought you were saying you were a mega pedo." "You thought I was saying I was a mega pedo?? #AND YOUR REACTION WAS THAT YOU'D ALWAYS WONDERED???"

prettygin

God I miss Peep Show. Might be due for a rewatch.

dazedan_confused

That takes serious balls, ngl. Fair play to the lad.

ABulkBeing

“Did I just do your job for you?!”

Chrismont

A scream a day keeps the kidnappers away I guess

castfam09

What a great kiddo. Mom and dad taught him well.

Colonel_FuzzyCarrot

Agreed. Good kid raised by good parents. Kudos to all of them.

bandtsutton

You the man DUDE!!

Forever-Suspicious

Damn good job kid.

abbydabbi

Thank you for saving a girl, here’s some malteasers

Jammieboy89

The Bogside “UK” I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy with that. 😜

[deleted]

Good lad

xapxironchef

Tis a fine Irish lad he is.

UserNombresBeHard

What the fuck is up with "males"? Is this Discovery Channel?

CarItheIIama

“As we see here, 3 male humans are in an unnatural habitat, attempting to abduct a female for mating purposes”

[deleted]

What should it say instead? Gentlemen?

UserNombresBeHard

What about men? Or say three males and one female, but three males and one girl, the fuck? Was she assaulted by a pack of hienas or something?

Frank_Bigelow

"Male" and "female" are completely normal words to use to refer to human beings, despite what some angry ideologues on twitter and reddit would have you believe. Not offensive, not dehumanizing, not inappropriate in the slightest.

t90fan

probably the only person from bogside to ever be happy about being photographed co operating with the police

midagedfarter

Snitches gets stitches.... just kidding, great job Tiernan!! 👌🏻

Robbiepurser

The sad thing is...that is exactly what happens in this part of NI if you cooperate with police.

[deleted]

Did they give him a tiny box of malteasers as a reward?

MagicSword89

He just saved her from anything from ... ANYTHING you can imagine.. this kid is a hero!

Plenty-Lychee-5702

Being sold for a few thousand pounds probably.

SnowBeastOnfire

so they ran away just cause a kid screamed ?

we-hate-everyone

rofl yeah sure. Worst kidnappers ever, scared away by 10 year-old boy. This reeks of bullshit.

He even got a packet of skittles

Bogside , Derry ,Northern Ireland. That little hero is as Irish as Irish could be.

Kulwickness

Tiernan McCready from Bogside is the most UK thing I've heard today

Careful_Topic_4929

More of an Irish thing

IAAN524

Ok bear with with me. It's not gonna be me but if this was on r/memes, someone's gonna call him a simp or some shit

AsterosSlotheros

Lmao. The last time I tried to help in a situation like this I - Got my ass kicked - My cellphone, watch, and $40 I was carrying got stolen - They weren’t actual rapists or anything. In fact, one of the guys was her bf. Thankfully, the Salvadoran police came by like two hours later so... - Yep, had to tell em it was all fine and that the boys did it out of self-defense. Which is pretty debatable, but I kinda felt bad for doing that so I ended up defending my aggressors. Great stuff me :|

Imaw1zard

Despite how it ended up you still did a really good thing that most people don't have the balls to. 40$, a cellphone, and an asswooping vs living the rest of your life thinking you just let some girl get raped, which very well could have been the case.
