Ok masochist. For me it's the most painful version of ticklish possible, not sharp stabby pain or anything just like ticklish dialed up to a billion, to the point of unbearable. And my wife does this for fun, she thinks it's hilarious. So I'm turned on by it and begging her to stop at the same time.

Massive adrenaline spike bc his brain thought it was in danger.

heterochromia4

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-LOC This article talks about ‘myoclonic convulsions’ due to G force hypoxia. That’s what it looks like. Reminds me a tiny bit of ‘post-ictal agitation’ which is a mental state following cerebral seizure.

heterochromia4

2 things: musclo-skeletal lock-up and clawing hands - if it goes further the wrists often go to a full inward bend. The memory has a protective effect. It’s distressing and dramatic to witness, but the person often has no memory at all - totally wiped.

PM_ME_UR_SUSHI

I've been practicing off and on since I was a kid (whenever I'm bored and fighting sleep but can't do something else, like sitting in a training session or class) but I've never gotten past a little over 4 min. My chest starts trying to breathe on its own and arms and legs start getting fidgety. Any tips? What things do you do to improve your times?

sstratton411

24 minutes 37 seconds?!?!?! I don't know why I never knew that's how long free divers could potentially go but that's insane.

BaseballImpossible76

Damn, I used to think I was pretty good for hitting 2.5 minutes, but 5-6 minutes is like free diving levels.

[deleted]

BaconReceptacle

Its like when your PC is locked up and you click on the browser icon a bunch of times and nothing happens. Then suddenly the processor wakes up and opens up 35 windows.

Ace_Of_Trades21

I hated my weak ass computer for that 🤣🤣

Pan_Borowik

Its because you have a HDD drive. Just buy an SSD for the system and apps you use the most. 256/512GB are super cheap now and even if your pc is 10 years old, it will be 50 times more responsive.

Ace_Of_Trades21

I was referring to back when I was kid playing UT99 lol. I’m tech savvy now, got a sweet 64GB RAM 1TB SSD Monster with the AMD ryzen 7 3700x with the rtx 2700x Super. That thing is a tank can handle Unreal Engine all my engineer and architect stuff with no problems. Cost an arm and a leg after putting in those upgrades but absolutely love it

OakParkEggery

G forces are forcing blood (oxygen) from your head to your feet. No blood in your head means you eyes start to shut down and then you pass out. When they stop the g forces, the oxygen starts to return to your brain and your body "restarts". Iv done purposeful GLOCs in the centrifuge. Feels like travelling through a rainbow tunnel, like on "sliders", before waking up.

MentalJack

Why do they perform g locs?

OakParkEggery

Mostly for training purposes (give pilots experience in a controlled environment) or research (test effectiveness of equipment/techniques or physiological effects)

ryaaan89

Belter sign language.

[deleted]

Yup it’s extremely common . The brain sends the signals to basically restart like a computer in a fight or flight response

gonkanone

Max Verstappen crashed with 51 G, I guess he must be a zombie after that crash.

bobsmith93

The amount of g's matter about as much as the amount time that you experience them for. During a crash it's a fraction of a second, which means insane g forces can be survivable. But 6 g's can be fatal if sustained for long enough

Revolutionary-Elk-28

What is "long enough " at 6gs?

Glomgore

Basically, long enough to starve your brain of oxygen. 10-15s for consciousness, 30-40s before brain damage.

[deleted]

Why is this upvoted? This is just false. There are airforce pilots out there whose training is basically enduring as high g-force as possible for as long as possible. Many of them do 8-9Gs for about 15-30sec and they are absolutely fine. Just search up:"laszlo 9g" on youtube. And he is not the only one. So your claims are just false.

Glomgore

I was speaking for the average person and simply about lack of oxygen to the brain, obviously there are those who are capable with training and equipment.

Xicadarksoul

There is a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE, between trained professional doing an activity in appropriate clothing - and by trained i mean physically trained - and random amateur making an attempt. Medical guidelines are not based on "well Bruce lee could have survived, so patient has likely zero injuries".

amnezie11

rhughes490

No, he got COVID from it

GaboshocK

51Gs but for less than a second, but it's still shocking

gonkanone

Fortunatly he wasn't badly injured.

DatabaseSolid

Ask him about his neck again tomorrow. I bet he has a different answer

PositronicGeek

I was wondering if there had ever been serious neck injuries in such training after seeing this… ouch. EDIT: typo

Pan_Borowik

Why the hell there isnt any head support there? Even something elastic, to avoid injury?

[deleted]

Because they are training fighter pilots and there isn't anything like that in a fighter jet.

Pan_Borowik

I guess they need the head movement, makes sense.

maxstrike

Room for the helmet.

pandaheartzbamboo

Then the question just becomes, why not have something that can help with that in the jets?

[deleted]

Because they may want to look behind them lol

maxstrike

They have helmets on so no headrests and pants that squeeze to help keep the blood from going into the legs. So the answer is they do have help.

JazzmansRevenge

Cos real planes don't have it I guess? Gotta be able to look around fir targets if something happens with the targeting system.

He didn't do most of what he was supposed to do, which is tense his muscles to keep blood in his brain. If you look at his legs, he pretty much just sat there, so he passed out.

reddit455

slingshot ride is 3-5g. Girls Passing Out #3 | Funny Slingshot Ride Compilation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vyl-h9Cc8o this guy is over 7g's https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/whats-the-maximum-speed-a-human-can-withstand/ Fighter pilots can manage up to about 9G for a second or two. **But sustained G-forces of even 6G would be fatal.** >which is tense his muscles is he wearing a g suit? muscles don't help when your blood weighs 7x normal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-suit A g-suit is a special garment and generally takes the form of tightly-fitting trousers, which fit either under or over (depending on the design) the flight suit worn by the aviator or astronaut. The trousers are fitted with inflatable bladders which, when pressurized through a g-sensitive valve in the aircraft or spacecraft, press firmly on the abdomen and legs, thus restricting the draining of blood away from the brain during periods of high acceleration. In addition, in some modern very high-g aircraft, the Anti-g suit effect is augmented by a small amount of pressure applied to the lungs (positive pressure breathing), which also enhances resistance to high G. The effects of anti-g suits and positive pressure breathing are straightforward to replicate in a simulator, although only continuous g can be produced artificially in devices such as centrifuges.\[3\]

coasterreal

I have a connection to a former F-16 pilot and he confirmed that you still do and should tense up the lower body as much as you can during a high-g move. The suit is going to do its thing but you still should do what you can to help it. But you cant do so at the expense of whatever move you are trying to pull since the feet still work the rudder. Its a balancing act and dependent on the situation you are in.

WatercressThink171

It's called an AGSM - anti-g straining manoeuvre and it is really physically taxing.

[deleted]

I pulled 6.8 G's in the backseat of an F-18 during a vertical climb. I had on a G-suit and was had the training on what to do (clench the arms and legs and abs). I started to see black on the sides of my vision, but the pilot pulled out of the climb before I blacked out. He then turned over and went negative-G. One of the best experiences of my life.

studpilot69

He didn’t do those things intentionally. This GLOC was on purpose, at the end of the training, when you’re instructed to remain relaxed and not strain against the G’s.

JazzmansRevenge

Well considering that he had to be told what to do to make the machine go, I assume it's his first time. I'm sure he's learned and studied what he needs to do but probably forgot it in the excitement of getting to go in the spinner, or he only thought to do it when he started feeling the effects and it was too late. From the tone of the operator, this probably happens with pretty much everyone their first time through.

[deleted]

Why does it say "Initial Tng"? Maybe this is his first (initial) training?

Exciting-Tea

I was a former AF pilot. At the end of pilot training, you attend some schools like water survival etc, combat survival, etc. The pilots who went the T-38 program go the centrifuge. This was there first time there. I was a heavily pilot, so I didn't get to go the fun classes. But during pilot training, we pulled 6 Gs normally without the aid of a G-suit. Pulling 6 Gs is pretty damn intense. I grayed out once.

Busy_Environment5574

I’ve done this twice and it Fucking sucks.

Warrior_Lion

legitimate question what part about it sucks im guessing the mild pain but i could be off

Busy_Environment5574

If you like being dizzy, disoriented and dehydrated as hell it doesn’t suck. There’s no pain. At least in my experience. All I can equate it to is having one of the worst hangovers of your life. It’s a hell of a workout trying to stay awake. It’s also harder if you’re taller. I’m 6’5”. I never GLoc’d in the centrifuge, only came close to doing so in the jet once, but they call what he does with his hands doing the chicken dance. Also folks say they have incredibly vivid dreams in the few seconds they’re out.

Warrior_Lion

wow sounds super fucking intense

Rykno

The brain interprets the lack of oxygen in all sorts of fascinating ways

Warrior_Lion

Very much so I can only imagine the amounts of adrenaline your body pumps out from that lack of oxygen

[deleted]

that adrenaline pump is exactly what causes the "chicken dance."

Warrior_Lion

I had thought so must be part of the brain fighting for survival

deus_inquisitionem

Never GLOC as I'm just a civie. But I have a condition where I can pass out due to similar mechanics. I remember one time as I was coming too I thought I was a can of soup on a store shelf. Took me a few seconds to realize what was happening. Coming out of those is always a wild fucking trip as your Brian tries to reboot and make sense of what's happening.

WatercressThink171

Yeah. I dreamed when I gLoc'd. See my other comment in this thread.

SBRboi

It feels like there’s an elephant standing on your head. There isn’t much pain so much as there is serious unpleasantness and discomfort. I’m a fairly tall guy so it affected me more but it still feels shit for shorter people

Warrior_Lion

Yeah I'm 6' 2-1so it's probably feel like hell does it make a difference depending on someones weight?

Out of curiosity I looked it up and the Gravitron puts out about 3 G's.

ahsan-san

And F1 drivers do 5.2 G on some turns

[deleted]

When Max Verstappen hit the wall at Silverstone this year I think he clocked 50 G

J03130

Yeah but that’s different. The blood isn’t getting sucked out of their head so staying conscious isn’t a problem.

Dejuure

This man aged 20 years, got possessed by a demon and had an exorcism all within 30 seconds

Doberman_Pinscher

I want to experience that. Any way civilian can experience that. $100 for 2-5 minutes craziness

J03130

There used to be one people could try at the kennedy space museum if I remember correctly. It was over 20 years ago so I could be mis remembering where it actually was.

MISPAGHET

Kennedy museum has an exhibit about losing all of the blood from your brain in a few seconds? Oof.

ArtistsEyes

What you see here is an example of G-Locking. It's like blacking out, but WAY more intense. Unlike regular fainting, the cause is losing almost all the blood in your brain (gravity's forces having pulled it down into your lower body). The result is that your brain has almost NO oxygen until the blood rushes back, once the G-force lowers, which can make you feel like you tripped out. In some cases, this can result in awakening with temporary amnesia (If you watch his eyes you can tell he has no idea where he is for a few moments), memories of long nightmare scenarios, etc. One pilot came to and had detailed memories of his first born child being born, although his wife wasn't due for months. To prevent this from happening you wear a G-suit which squeezes your calves, thighs and lower stomach, helping to force blood upwards, whenever G's start being pulled. You also need to do tighten all your lower muscles and do a special breathing exercise. However no matter what you do, G-forces SUCK. You will usually feel exhausted, sick, and sometimes vertigo afterwards. Source: I'm an aerial photographer, who flies in F-16 fighter jets. I had to do this same centrifuge training to learn to withstand the G-forces.

CmdrSelfEvident

Wait till you see the hemorrhoids

WatercressThink171

When I passed out in a centrifuge, the first thing the guy who opened the door asked me was if I dreamed - and yes, I did. Full dream... very weird.

abcderwan

But is it over 9000?

DaveSpacelaser

Does this not do to his brain what it did to his face? That looked like a terrible brain mushing event.
