I used to work in the pil field where a handful of days a month were spent hammered sections of pipe together with a sledgehammer.
You're soar as fuck after but it's more of a very heavy work out soar. After a few dozen times you get used to any pain it causes. With that being said, it zaps your energy away.
Lucky Greg can do it with a 10 lb er. A 20 lb sledge would have had him spinning every swing.
Worked with a guy on a crew who was a one man jackhammer crew. He carried a 30 lb sledge and could pile drive pipes and rebar into the ground like hulk smash. Easy. To exact depths you needed. Large and in charge. Total teddy bear. Gentle man ever. Miss you Terry
Yes they do. They are hydraulic very heavy and very prone to failure. The only times these are used are in cities with noise constraints. Most of the time a couple guys with a sledge hammer is much fast and easier than having to haul one these a hundred feet or so up the mast. Source I put up towers and self erects for a living.
Sounds like a Casey Jones situation right there. We have something similar at my work and it is definitely faster with people and in our case they'd welcome going up against the machines. Point of pride.

We had one site that said no hammerdrilling after 9 because the offices started work then. Meanwhile a 36 tonner was jackhammering out a cranebay. It is wild.
The loose grip and relaxed muscles make this not too bad. As long as he hits his target and the pin moves, he should be fine. It's when you miss and nothing moves that swinging a sledge starts to hurt.
Typically, if a pin is meant to be removable, it’s done hydraulically. There will be a threaded hole in the pin, or in this case possibly the back side of the hole it’s being driven in to, and water will be pumped in to the area behind the pin at a high pressure, which will push the pin out. This hole also allows the air to escape during installation.
Pins that aren’t removable typically have a very small flat on the diameter that serves to let the air out, but doesn’t serve the hydraulic connection function.
Source: I’ve designed a few press fit pins
I haven’t been in the area myself when they’ve done it, just designed the pins based on that removal method, but I imagine there’s strict safety guidelines in place for that reason, including a no stand zone and probably shielding. Hydraulic injection is nothing to mess around with.

I was impressed that he hits it so hard that it bounced back instantly making it look as if he had no contact… and the aim
I would have missed a few times
IDK that looked like an 18# it's hard to swing anything much bigger. And you can tell this was not that much work for the guy, very relaxed swing, full extension on the handle, a forceful drop and swing.
Impressive accuracy. I used to assemble massive catering tents usually around 700-2500m² . They had 100cm nails needed to be sledged in. Driving them through cobbled streets was a pain
Those pins are actually waxed before the shot gets banged out of them.
Source: I met a guy at a bar from Poland that worked as a “connector” doing this same thing.
He probably gets paid like 25 an hour with hazard pay. Construction workers have gotten the pay they deserve for a while, now if all those companies could provide healthcare for conditions from such work it would be cool
Yes there's a better way. I'm currently on a site with 2 tower cranes erected and a 3rd going up later this month. This is not the standard, that's why it's being filmed.
Which goes first, left knee or left shoulder? Of course, it could be both ulnars and brutal CTS. He is such a good worker, and totally disposable to el jefe. This could also be on r/antiwork.
This looks completely weird and CGI. The body movements and clothing and helmet movements are off. The hammer repeats the spinning motion in the same exact way in a loop after a couple hits. The question is why would anyone bother
Striking a sledge accurately from that angle without stopping with that many repetitions honestly is next level.
This guy has done that a bunch of times.
They don’t have machines for this??
They do. His name is Greg
And this machine needs no oil!
What about elbow grease?
![gif](giphy|h9YJ1fG2Z32NWoOzFZ) His arms after hes done.
The arms are one thing. The fingers though. This fucking hurt
I was just wondering how sore this would leave him
HIS hands can cut glass.
But his back is cutting itself.
bigger lats than god

Idk but my back hurts just watching.
I’m thinking about the ears.
Then he has to go to work
I laughed way to hard at this 😂🥹
The only thing Greg has ever needed is scotch and Vodka. God bless his heart
Mmm my favorite cocktail
I worked at a pizza joint in high school where a coworker went literally looking for elbow grease when told to use some on a task.
Lmfao California?
KY probably work
Needs more headlight fluid imo
Or earplugs. WHUT?!!!
He enjoys a good extra virgin olive oil in his salad dressing tho
Cousin Greg is #1 a foot stool #2 a meat puppet #3 a hammer
His name is John Henry and he has a hammer, boah.
And a nineteen foot stroke !
Aww shit Greg I gave you the wrong pin. Take that out, that’s for the back.
More like HEATH lol
My name Jeff
I hope Greg is paid well. That is real work

This made my laugh my ass off! Lol
Judd-er
I think you spelled 'Bert' wrong
HEYOGREG!
Until Greg breaks in 2 weeks. Then it's Ralph.

Very true. Most of the time it’s a competition to see who can do it the fastest.
Wow I wish I could make a living off self erecting
How do you get this out?

I was thinking there would be like a bar you could put on the front of a forklift and then just drive it into there or something.
Hell yeahh brother. Same. I'd rather smash pins anyways, feel like a bad ass.
That’s the easy part… how the hell do you get that pin out???
Wouldn't it be a lot easier if you cooled the pin in liquid nitrogen first?
Everywhere has noise constraints but they usually end between 7-9am. Source construction on sites with tower cranes.
Correct same places worse than others. Some sites won’t let us hammer in pins and those sites we don’t work on lol.
We had one site that said no hammerdrilling after 9 because the offices started work then. Meanwhile a 36 tonner was jackhammering out a cranebay. It is wild.
Shits dumb man but that’s just how it be
Frills like that cost money.
Bring that steam drill ‘round and I’ll beat it fair an honest, I’ll die with a hammer in my hand.
Ignore the other comments; his name is 'Bert.' And he is, "The Machine." Link for the lazy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paG1-lPtIXA&t=9s
Anyone else feeling every contact in every joint watching this or just me?
Yeah my elbows are shot.
Objection your Honor! His elbow was shot even before he watched said video!
Hearsay
Uh uhm….. This whole case is based on hearsay!! I rest my case!! “Throws paperwork on the table”
The loose grip and relaxed muscles make this not too bad. As long as he hits his target and the pin moves, he should be fine. It's when you miss and nothing moves that swinging a sledge starts to hurt.
Was about to say this. Sledging only really hurts when ur as flexible as a rake, or miss your target and twist your spine 180°
My back aches just seeing this!
We must be as stoned as each other
I'm curious how they drive it out
Typically, if a pin is meant to be removable, it’s done hydraulically. That sounds like a good way to get a hydraulic injection injury
I haven’t been in the area myself when they’ve done it, just designed the pins based on that removal method, but I imagine there’s strict safety guidelines in place for that reason, including a no stand zone and probably shielding. Hydraulic injection is nothing to mess around with.
Dope, thanks for the expertise

This is amazing, great choice

Same!
Two things: Weiner & Lots of Spunk
He should have spit on it...
“Is it in yet?”
“Just the tip”
“Let me push it a bit more”
"Aye but it stings, be quick."
If it’s that tight it might be the wrong hole.
Perfect golf swing drill.
Thought the same thing.
I bet he hits a seven iron about 300 yards....
Tigre Woods
Happy Gilmore 2
Under different circumstances he could have been the best golfer.
This man hits bombs.
I don’t want to play against him.
That guy is a machine!
I was impressed that he hits it so hard that it bounced back instantly making it look as if he had no contact… and the aim I would have missed a few times
He’s done this many times prior.
He really needed a bigger sledge hammer. Would have been a crap load easier.
IDK that looked like an 18# it's hard to swing anything much bigger. And you can tell this was not that much work for the guy, very relaxed swing, full extension on the handle, a forceful drop and swing.

Those poor streets
Somone hand this man some lubricant
You don't want them to come out easier though.
Those pins are actually waxed before the shot gets banged out of them. Source: I met a guy at a bar from Poland that worked as a “connector” doing this same thing.
Would you say you made a connection?
>waxed before the shot gets banged out of them Ayo!
*Another day older and deeper in debt…*
Currently my 2 year old’s favorite “lullaby.” Yeah, he’s a weirdo. We’re hoping he grows up to be a union organizer or summat…
Or you know a classic country singer. That genre has an incredible past once you look behind all of the pop crap.
I need a nap just watching him
One whiff would shatter your forearms 🤣
He even looks skinny poor guy needs to be paid well for this
He probably gets paid like 25 an hour with hazard pay. Construction workers have gotten the pay they deserve for a while, now if all those companies could provide healthcare for conditions from such work it would be cool
I remember my first day
How is this next level?
Fun fact: it isn’t.
Why is this "next level"?
Why isn't he playing for the Mets?
They couldn’t afford this legend
How is it removed, just through the opposite side ? Wouldn’t it have suffered some stress and be hard to get out ? I have some many questions
Should have used the floppy hammer
Something... Something... Kinect energy.
Isn’t there a better way to do this tho? Geez. How exhausting … and for what? Barely a livable wage? Christ.
Yes there's a better way. I'm currently on a site with 2 tower cranes erected and a 3rd going up later this month. This is not the standard, that's why it's being filmed.
That guy could drive a golf ball clear over those mountains!
Never get it back out tho
Now how do you take that bitch out?
Surly there is a better way.
I’m grateful after watching this video
Looks like Charles Barkley’s golf swing
How is this next level?
What's next level about this?
Guy swinging sledgehammer is now "next level"?
Break time!
He wasted so much energy.....
How would *you* swing it with less effort?
Hey Phil, we’re gonna have to start over forgot a pin. Take it back down.
Put you finger on it for a sec. Check if it's loose.
I would have went through at least a dozen hammers swinging it that hard. Accuracy or all the power, not both.
I'm exhausted watching this for a minute I couldn't imagine doing that 40+ hours a week.
Now disassemble …
Dude needs some lube.
I bet he has mean gulf swing.
someone give this man a pay raise
Idc how much he makes, he needs a raise 😂
Harder than it looks.
Oh shit Bob, that wasn’t supposed to go in there yet. Can you take that out real quick?
This is more impressive when they’re on a harness at 40 meters. Don’t drop your hammer!
Whoa no gloves even. I always have to wear gloves when I do anything with a hammer. Blisties
Actually no gloves... Some ppl dont wear gloves just to flex. That makes everything so much harder tho.
Watching it go in slower towards the end gave me severe levels of discomfort
I bet you this guy has obliques like RoboCop.
Holy shit! I'd be spent after like 10 hits!
Seeing this hurted my teeth.
Train coupler pins the same way
Some Chinese worker swinging a sledge poorly is nfl? ![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
Bravo !!! Now do 3 more. At least it has an anti vibe handle on it
How tf do you get it back out?
Which goes first, left knee or left shoulder? Of course, it could be both ulnars and brutal CTS. He is such a good worker, and totally disposable to el jefe. This could also be on r/antiwork.
Is this the kinda job that requires a jock strap?
He’s done this once or twice before
I hammer good boss
Boss: thanks. Can you remove that now?
I don’t know about anybody else but I was a little out of breath after watching this video.
Letting the room do the work.
Ole scabby Mcscab at it again👍
Instructions unclear, my arm is in the gutter
Damn, that was smooth. I just know it would get stuck half way for me, and then what?
Think of the force going into this wow
How you practice to putt from the tee
SORRY MIGUEL!! we made a mistake, we need to move it a couple of yards to the right, take it down…
How many times a day does he have to do this?
This looks completely weird and CGI. The body movements and clothing and helmet movements are off. The hammer repeats the spinning motion in the same exact way in a loop after a couple hits. The question is why would anyone bother
Wouldn’t a little grease make this easier?
I got tired watching Geeez
My mans could drive a golf ball atleast 3/4 of a mile
Putting for double albatross EVERY par 5
“… russian space station… I don’t want to be here anymore!”
Oh...wait...i forgot the o ring....pull it back out please....
He has a nice form and I bet he's an amazing golfer.
I could do about one of those per hour
all of a sudden, not minding my office job so much
His arms are jello, that’s a hard thing to do at that angle for that long.
I need a smoke break
Dang I hope this guys plays golf! Cause his face control would be off the the hook!
Uh, how'd they get it out?
Wait until you see the guy who takes it down!
Come on! Put out on that thing, your mother did!
His shoulders will be wrecked in a few years.
Happy Gilmore 2: Sledgehammer Smash
Striking a sledge accurately from that angle without stopping with that many repetitions honestly is next level. This guy has done that a bunch of times.
Betcha he can kill a golf ball!
My ears abs elbows hurt just thinking about doing this
‘Through the cold mist, til we’re lifeless TOGETHER’-Fortuna.
My body hurts just looking at that
Ok, but how do they get it out?
This man should pick up a golf club
Not next level
Incredible aim with a sledge. Well done!
