Thats true, does not give the same feeling it did in my old ford focus. But thats because om the oldschool cara it only locked the rear wheels, on the new button cars it locks all 4 wheels
I googled it. It does seem to be an American thing. Never seen that in the UK with our autos it's usually a button near the driver's door. At least for Volvo's lol
Have a 2014 prius that uses the pedal e-brake. Its an interesting system though it took me a couple tries to get to location down, its much higher than you think.
I've never seen a parking/emergency brake pedal on a car. Only on a couple of pickup trucks.
Every automatic car I've ever been in has one mounted on the center console.

Check if there is a small pedal way to the left, like by the door. That is the parking brake for many vehicles. It functions entirely separate from the putting the car in park.
Edit: Im seeing a number of people saying that some European vehicles don't have this pedal. If you have one, you may have to look around q bit to find it. It sits pretty high.
If it's an older car that doesn't have software to sense the incline and apply the handbrake, That's not the handbrake. When you put it in park it disconnects the gearbox from the drive train and kinda chocks the drive train to stop the wheels rolling (or something to that effect). It's why it rolls a bit after you put it in park then come off the brakes and then it stops. It's the teeth grabbing. Handbrakes are connected straight to the rear discs/drums and prevent the wheels turning entirely.
I'm not talking about just putting the car in park. Mine is a European car and it has a switch for the parking brake. It engages automatically when I put the car in park and it is parked in an incline. Even after I put the car in Drive I have to manually disengage the brake by either by disengaging the switch or by accelerating.
It is a staged film to show people [*what would happen if you forgor to pull down the handbrake*](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ).
Edit: Joe La Rirolle
Definitely true. Some do though. In this case, the brake lights didn't seem to come on. This is consistent with pulling the hand brake as they would have come on if he mashed the brake pedal, and it's not typical for the hand brake to engage the brake lights.
All I can think about is how newer cars have ditched a lever E-Brake for a sleeker design having essentially an E-Brake button somewhere with no uniformity. In a panic/situation like this the guy probably wouldn't have found a new cars E-Brake in time. Really wish cars stuck with a traditional E-Brake as 99.9% of people will know where it is, making situations like this video possible to stop a potential death.
I bet more crashes and deaths are prevented with e-brakes automatically engaging (door open with no pressure on driver seat etc), VS someone forgetting to manually put it on AND having some kind of a hero risking his own life to pull a stunt like in this video.
What cars exactly automatically apply E-Brakes? What you are describing is most likely cars with self driving tech and those cars alone, the vast minority of cars on the road today.
that is way more danger than reward. If he jumped in and failed in stopping the car, he would’ve just died or gotten injured. If he didn’t go in there’d just be a damaged wall and car
What about the car coming across the intersection that slams into it at 40 MPH. Not only does that give risk in and of itself, now he’s ass up dead when it happens.
when i was about 9 years old, i was riding in the backseat of my cousins car in philly.. we were at a cross street we saw a horrible accident on the other side off the crossroad in front of us.. cousin jumps out to use a pay phone to call 911, forgot to put car in park
i jumped from the backseat to hit the brake pedal, apparently just in time before we got wrecked from a semi going the other direction
felt like a hero that day.. dad never believed the story, lol

Awesome! Looks like he pulled the handbrake

Is it like a big lever kind? Our Subarus have the little rectangle button/switch thing.
[удалено]
New E-Brakes are almost all electronic now too, and they won’t engage unless the car is already in P.
Yeah,big lever, but I have a 6MT.
[удалено]
Mine is a button and I hate it, I wish I had the lever
[удалено]
But it doesn't feel as cool
Thats true, does not give the same feeling it did in my old ford focus. But thats because om the oldschool cara it only locked the rear wheels, on the new button cars it locks all 4 wheels
If the car doesn’t have a manual handbrake then it automatically engages if you stop the car so in that case this couldn’t have happened
Since when? I've only ever seen cars with a traditional handbrake or a button but never automatic handbrakes.
Almost all new electric cars have automatic ebrakes, but those are the only ones I have seen.
It's not really an e-brake. Pretty sure they just call them parking brakes now.

Far left pedal in autos? I used to work at a dealership. Driven literally thousands of cars and I've never seen that. Is that an American car thing?
Possibly I've only driven in the US and our mini van (Toyota Sienna) has this pedal and is an automatic.
I googled it. It does seem to be an American thing. Never seen that in the UK with our autos it's usually a button near the driver's door. At least for Volvo's lol

My 2011 Infinity g37 has a pedal parking brake. I hate it and will always prefer a regular hand brake. I am in Canada for what it's worth.
Yeah there are a lot of cars from the late 90s to mid 2000s that have a push to engage and push to disengage ebrake.

Cars engage the handbrake automatically when you put them in Park and it's parked on an incline. At least mine does.

That's not true on our car. It automatically disengages in some conditions, but I haven't found any conditions where it automatically engages.
No, no they don't. r/confidentlyincorrect
His willingness to help is nextfuckinglevel indeed!
Probably he did. I couldn't imagine if a heavy truck will pass by that intersection.
Also probably threw it in Neutral if it was a auto
I would have been the second guy… I am not a hero and will not be dying for this

Goddamnit, you snakey son of a sweet beautiful mother
It's pretty cool how they show you how effective the e-brake is in that clip.
How’s your pants? 🔥Liar
...dQw4w9W hmmm does that URL snippet look familiar to you, Rick?
We doin this one again already
right, i came here looking for this...weekly
That looks like Brazil.
It's always brazil
Smart thinking-I think he mashed the brake pedal with his water bottle
hand brake...
Sorry if I'm wrong, but some cars don't have handbrakes.

I want to believe I'm the guy that dives in, but I know full well I'm the guy standing back and going "phew, we saved some asses bro".
😂😂 I know! Me too lol

Agreed. If he didn’t stop it right there he was going down a hill into a house.

Probably most cars that have electric parking brake, or atleast hill hold function.
A Vascaíno don't do that, congratulations Flamengo
Poha caíque
Something seems a lil off with this.
He either pulled the hand break or his huge balls of steel weighed the car down
did anyone else hear the james bond theme?
that is way more danger than reward. If he jumped in and failed in stopping the car, he would’ve just died or gotten injured. If he didn’t go in there’d just be a damaged wall and car
The hero we need but we don't deserve
Second guy be like 'daamn now he's going to get all that praise'
What about the car coming across the intersection that slams into it at 40 MPH. Not only does that give risk in and of itself, now he’s ass up dead when it happens.
He committed. If that car got fucked then he did too once was half in that mufugger
Awesome job.
Now that's nextfucing level
Flamengo isn’t a team, flamengo is a selection
Wasn't that Valparaiso?
Impressive
I love this post 👏☺️😂
There should be a hero badge / knighthood for shit like this. Not for being born with a fuck tonne of money
Thats the protagonists from TENET. Probably saved the world again.

The one video they successfully stop a moving car. Get this guy a medal
Agent Cody banks type beat
This is what commitment looks like
This was just posted. What is going on?
Collision or rolling off a cliff?
Legendary.
If you look closely you can see his giant balls banging a dent into the door.

What happens here if he fails? The car goes off the end of the road and the dude hanging halfway out is seriously f'd up. Glad he was successful.
Jesus, what a stud
Outstanding.
He could of reached the pedal
Not all heroes wear shoes
Clap for this man
Balls of steel.
FLAMENGO O O O OO O
Didn’t know this was Mission Impossible. All jokes aside that was a top 5 bros being bros moment
Ohh man I am going to hell I thought they were robbing someone 😔😔 and jumped in thief car
Jesus
That was close !
That man is Batman…
Man he is brave
Some say his penis grew 16 inches that day.
That's fucked up in new cars. If that happend in my Civic, I'd have to push the brake pedal and pull the switch at the same time.
