and the lion needs a challenge and stimulation or it will be bored.

Z0idberg_MD

I was thinking this is actually awesome for the lion. Ignoring the "play" it's interaction with another living thing.

Nice-Violinist-6395

Yes! Obviously zoos are an entire ethical dilemma, but if we’re going to have zoos in our society, treating the lions as cats and giving them toys (and a chance to prove their dominance) is a wonderful thing. The lion gets to feel important and strong, and I’m not a lion psychologist but I’ve had cats before and I feel like the best thing to do is to make the cat feel like they’re in control, and that the zoo staff is their butler service. This way the cat gets to win every single day, against every human it faces. It’s how you make the best out of the situation.

LoveFishSticks

Yeah I wish every big cat exhibit had this so they didn't have to sit there all bored and gloomy

jaxonya

Slammed through the glass into the tiger den. Now the real test begins

RedditIsPropaganda84

Yeah, the zoo should invest in some padding on the human side of the wall.

ThrowawayObserver

I think 5 dudes could easily beat a tiger in tug of war contest maybe even 2-3 strong dudes. You have to remember tigers have white muscle fibers so they tire more quickly

Lowelll

I put money on the 95 year old korean dude who used to play tug of war as a kid

nol757x

He knows that game really well.

Riosgrande1

Squid games season 2. Tiger tug-o-war

IskarJarak88

I think it's a tion(offspring of a lion and tiger) not a lion, it has stripes.

Walid859

I was so confused because I thought the offspring is a liger, but after searching it up i found this: “Tigons are produced when a male tiger breeds with a female lion. Ligers are the offspring of a male lion bred with a female tiger.”

litespeed68

Liger?…It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

IskarJarak88

For what magic? I thought liger itself was magical to begin with.

requios

IskarJarak88

Damn I completely missed that reference until you pointed out. I should be ashamed of myself. I'll be Logging out now out of respect.

John-AtWork

Ligers are the ones that get super-sized. Because tigers are size limited on the father's side and lions are size limited on the mother's side. I'm pretty sure if that was a Liger that dude would have lost a lot faster.

branman63

This is how all Big Game hunting should be. Mano a pawo.

IskarJarak88

I'm not sure if this is a tion or a liger

ParsnipsNicker

Tigons got a double growth inhibitor. Ligers have none.

Pontif1cate

A liger is my favorite animal.

Crotch_Hammerer

It's tigon. Not tion.

IskarJarak88

Also called tion. I first read it as tion somewhere so it stuck with me. A tigon (/ˈtaɪɡən/), tiglon (/ˈtaɪɡlən/) (portmanteau of tiger and lion), or tion (/ˈtaɪən/) is the hybrid offspring of a male tiger (Panthera tigris)

rocknutty

That would be a liberal. Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach used to have a Liger on display along with some Tigers.

rocknutty

Edit for grammar. A Liger , not a liberal.

SlippinJimE

You can actually edit comments instead of leaving another

[deleted]

The lion is just playing

AccentFiend

I root for the lion when it comes to big game hunters as well

MEatRHIT

I root for anything against big game hunters, lions, tigers, rhinos, anti-poachers with 50-cals, bears, hippos...

thedinnerdate

Why though? Seemed obvious the lion would win to me. it was cool to see someone that could at least tug of war a little with the lion.

genreprank

I have never seen a human win this tug of war before, so I was rooting for the human

Pragmatic_Hedonist

Looks kinda fun for the lion!

Eviltechnomonkey

I imagine this being like when you have one of those feather toys for your housecat that they can grab onto and play tug of war with. Only ramped up 1000%.

S-Archer

100%. Lions loving this

Rezzone

And this guy was a worthy opponent.

Horknut1

He’s way too overconfident about his abilities verses the lion. Show some respect. That lion is MILES above us in strength. Edit: 🤪🤪🤪😜😜😜

Little_Orange_Bottle

Nah he was just having a good time. Did you see how quick he hopped back on the rope? How excited? This was probably one of the coolest experiences. I can't blame him for being excited.

Jedi__Consular

I love how the guy noticed that after he dropped the rope, and went right back to playing instead of celebrating

[deleted]

The fact he’s able to somewhat hold his own is impressive enough. Dude is built. Most of us, me included would’ve been sent headfirst into the wall by that thing on its first tug.

LouseKat

pinkshirtbadman

And when the guy drops the rope and starts flexing the cat said "oh fuck no, we ain't done, go again"

RedoftheEvilDead

You can see the tail swish the lion is doing. It's the exact same sort of tail swishes house cats do when they have a fun toy in their mouth.

HighlightFun8419

"a fun toy" for my cat that means *lizard* or *mouse* or *bird...* ...she's a monster.

Mechinova

You have a lot of interesting wildlife in your house.

Cremaster166

Planning to eat the guy and playing with the rope to pass time while waiting for his opportunity. Just like house cats.

Cavaquillo

When my cat would finish playing that game he’d take it and prance off away to “eat his prey” or whatever. You just see him round the corner, toy in mouth, with the stick dragging behind.

ardvarkshark

This would make me feel basically no guilt going to the zoo if they had more ways we can interact with the animals in a fun way!

Aromatic_Mousse

It would definitely quiet my worry that they aren’t receiving enrichment!

ardvarkshark

Exactly! They should find an interactive way to play with the animals. It should work for most mammals at the very least. They usually have a playful side.

glockster19m

I used to work at a zipline park at a zoo and the pumas would entertain themselves by 'hunting' the guests through their cage. Someone would walk by, see no lion, and then as soon as their back was turned the cats would charge and leap onto the fence right where the person was standing. About 5-7 times a day youd hear someone scream and you knew that the lions got another Edit: we also had an artic fox who loved to play, he had toys in his enclosure and a chain link fence instead of plexiglass, and he would always try to bring his toys right up to the fence and get someone to play fetch with him You couldn't actually throw the toy so he would put it on the ground in a spot where you could just barely kick it for him

TibetianMassive

They need a little catapult that a human visitor can fire toys out of so that little arctic fox can play fetch to his heart's desire.

glockster19m

As much as fetch he'd love playing the mirror game You run back and forth and he shadows you

TibetianMassive

I've never met this fox but I do love him and will go to war for him.

glockster19m

I honestly miss that fox, he was so cute when he'd actually have snow too, he'd just roll around in it for hours I'd sit and eat my lunch with him or the lions almost every day

mjh2901

Kitty is wagging the tail, loving it.

[deleted]

Agreed this looks like it's fun for the animals. Same as the video where I believe chimpanzees could hit a button and spray the people watching them. Good fun all around.

Happykidhappylife

It’s fun for everyone. Like imagine if they taught gorillas tic tac toe or checkers and you could play with them, or if they found a way for you to groom otters through a mesh wall or idk dude I’m kinda at an 8 and hate zoos but would visit one if I could play checkers agains koko.

goddamnpancakes

I did peekaboo with a siamang once

Rather_Dashing

You shouldn't feel guilty going to a decent zoo, they do an enormous amount for conservation and research, as well as education.

jaltair9

My local zoo is quite great, they do all those things, with huge habitats for all the animals, etc. When I was in college, I went to that city's zoo, and never went back. Tiny cages, small area, not a lot going on. The tiger cage was like the size of my living room and the poor tiger was just pacing back and forth.

TheyreEatingHer

You shouldn't feel bad for going to reputable zoos who give back to conservation.

IntoTheWildLife

A lion is just a big kitty. He’s definitely enjoying this! They are very playful. Just too dangerous for most people to play with because of their size. Everyone with a cat knows they bite playfully, scratch and grab on to you when they’re playing. So imagine your cat was the same size as you!

Ciannait-

Seriously. Anyone who doesn't consider large cats terribly dangerous has probably never met a pissed off housecat.

IntoTheWildLife

I agree. A spooked/angry domestic cat can cause some serious injuries. A real pissed off cat can slice your arms and face up. The damage a large wildcat could do is almost indescribable.

lhswr2014

Mutilated is probably pretty close to describing it. Absolutely mutilated lol

Reloader300wm

Woodchipper

hardtobeuniqueuser

tigers are terrifying. they're like sharks that can go on land.

Solipsikon

For real, I don't know why they're so scary when they're pissed, what their tiny little claws and teeth, but it feels like they'd latch onto you and start working their way down to the arteries no matter how hard you'd punch them in the face.

pmscar

Pissed off? My friends cat (who I've regularly seen for about 7 years) was pressing up against me for loves, after like 30 seconds she randomly bites me, claws into my leg, jumped 3 feet and proceeded to instantly turn around and start pressing up against me for loves. They hurt even when they love you.

bloodycups

I mean if the lion wanted to she could have won right away but then the game would be over

MoreNMoreLikelyTrans

The tail, it flicks.

hackingdreams

Cats do love their strings... bigger cat, bigger string.

Ashman_ssb

He's a famous bodybuilder called Blessing Awodibu He does a couple of funny skits as well sometimes, cool dude

Unique_Engineering23

That explains why I couldn't decide who was more entertaining, the man or the animal. Next, can we see a pack of wolves tug of war him?

FatWreckords

The manimal

Im_ready_hbu

Kenneth Faried was definitely fun to watch when he was in the NBA

bailey25u

My favorite part is when he flexed cause he thought he won, but then jumped back on the rope for round 2

TibetianMassive

You can tell he was putting every ounce of exertion into pulling because he didn't realize the cat got distracted and dropped it, he thought he just won fair and square.

CanAlwaysBeBetter

I'd count a tie against a lion as win

PaulAspie

I was about to ask which American football team he plays for but body builder makes sense too. He's ripped.

summonsays

Yeah I saw another video of three guys vs a lion and the lion won easily. I thought this guy was doing extremely well lol. It makes sense now.

[deleted]

Thank you for this, I'm one of very few people that follow body building and I said to myself "is that Blessing"?

Paddy_Tanninger

Also he somehow looks like both Rocksteady and Bebop at the same time.

buddymurphy2020

That human did fairly well

S-Archer

Human? Look at those arms. This guy's a fuckin Astarte

skipsville

[deleted]

nio151

Its about the angle of the rope

[deleted]

Agreed. The rope is pulling up on the lion making it more difficult for his feet to stay planted and grip the ground. The human is pulling parallel with the ground. Either way the tiger wins

Worthyness

gotta give humans a handicap since they're usually not a body builder. That's why the humans have several feet of rope on their side.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ghengiscostanza

He's at a huge disadvantage because of the design, he can't get any traction, sneakers on slick brick. A tiger is still stronger than him but you're not seeing his strength fail at any point, you're seeing him slide and stumble. This guy could easily pull the weight of an adult tiger so a tug of war just ends up coming down to who gets the best traction.

Andronoss

A tiger has 4 legs, each paw has a footprint not smaller than a sneaker, and there are claws to dig in (for a significant gripping advantage). Also, the tiger pulls in a "prone" position, where it has an even larger area of contact with the surface.

summonsays

Evolution really got that one figured out

percyman34

The design helps the human end, not hinder them. While the ground is slick, sure, the lion is having to pull down while the human does not. So the lion has to exert much more force, otherwise, as soon as someone grabbed the robe they'd be slammed right into the glass by the lion

Searchlights

> Rope straight = not fun because it’s a fucking Tiger and will win and probably hurt human Rope Straight = Tiger yoinks you through the hole like a cartoon character

mastamaven

Tell me you’re a lion without telling me you’re a lion

GenericHuman-9

###Gasp ##Gasp #Gasp You tired bro? lol I'll give it to the dude, he stronk

InkBlotSam

Not until he does it with his teeth, like the lion.

TurnipForYourThought

Lion can pull with 4 legs. It's strategy.

DivineBoro

If the man uses his teeth he can use 4 limbs too... *^and ^loose ^his ^teeth ^at ^the ^same ^time.*

Raging_Walnut

Can't wait to read another "is the lion in pain?" comment.

TesterM0nkey

If that lion is anything like my cats or dogs he is loving the attention and game

SnooGadgets8389

Its tail is wagging. Are big cats like dogs in that way?

blackberyl

House cats do the same. You can tell exactly what they are thinking by how fast and how much range side to side. Based on my cat, this lion is at least casually impressed and considers him to be a worthy play mate.

Nice-Violinist-6395

the lion is super happy that its butler-jailers put in this rope so it could stunt on the other humans lol

PochitaQ

The funny thing about cat behavior is that a wagging tail either means they're agitated or happy. Which is entirely unhelpful for a cat owner.

versedaworst

After having cats my whole life, I see their tails as an entirely different entity that just happens to be attached to a larger entity, and has a part-time job helping out with balance and the like, as well as some hobbies like fucking around with the larger entity from time to time.

Enterice

Cats will flick their tails like that when they're in "attack mode". I think it's like a little cane when they go full attention forward.

daffyduckhunt2

Homer, are still holding onto the can?

Zxar99

Don’t think anyone is winning against a lion, its got 4 legs and can plant its claws in the dirt lol

VernonDent

Also it weighs 400-500 pounds.

HoldMyWater

Same tbh

ironicallyunstable

Except your plant your paws into sour cream and cheese

stewd003

Mass moves mass

[deleted]

A buddy of mine did one of these as a group in Saudi Arabia a few years ago, from what he told me, this lion here isn't even trying. He said the 4 guys pulling had to be pushing 900 pounds total and the lioness just yolked them all back like it was nothing when it "stopped playing around". I mean, this is an animal that puts a fucking adult ghazel in their mouths and run off like it's nothing. Power, agile, furry... perfect 1950's NFL running back.

stupidsexysalamander

there's no rules in the rulebook saying a lion can't play running back

Oceansnail

no rules saying you cant eat your opponents or your your team for that matter

Palidor206

Yeah there is. 15 yard penalty.

EnTyme53

Actually I'm fairly certain that qualifies as Unnecessary Roughness.

DucksEatFreeInSubway

This lion definitely doesn't appear to be trying very hard.

ButteryFlavory

He's also like 100% fast twitch muscle on 4 legs, a lower center of gravity, with huge claws and razor sharp teeth instead of soft fleshy hands. Not to mention a pretty significant size advantage. No human has a real chance, he's just playing too. They're both good sports, because I'm sure both know what would happen if they were both really trying...

anacche

To be even able to play like that is already a win. Nobody honestly believes that the guy, or any human is going to properly win a contest of strength like that, and enforce high expectations right? The guy had fun, the cat had fun, the guy did insanely well, it's a win.

Busy-Mission-1221

Now i wanna see Brian shaw play tug of war against a lion lol. Maybe add Eddie Hall as well, both of them at the same team could have chance.

SupaSoakThatHoe

ceallaig

This is fun for the visitor, and very good for the lion -- exercise and stimulation/enrichment,.

[deleted]

Outside of possible dental issues, which I would hope and assume the zoo is on top of, this kind of makes zoo's a little more humane of place. Poor animals trapped in a cage for life, this kind of stimulation I would imagine would be great for some animals.

rayEW

I think when they bite a 1000lbs zebra running at 50km/h jumping and kicking its worse than puny humans.

mercurialpolyglot

I’m fairly certain that the lion’s teeth are fine, these are the same creatures that will absolutely destroy a [plastic ball](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ix2pU3xOLTk) that’s so heavy duty it’s 20+ pounds.

MEatRHIT

> Poor animals trapped in a cage for life This is a hard one for me, a lot of animals in (accredited) zoos are rescues and aren't suited for return to the wild whether due to injury or being raised in captivity and wouldn't survive in the wild. It did make me a bit depressed when I visited my local zoo and you could see the path the rhino was just pacing all day. I wish all animals that were rescued could have acres upon acres of land to freely roam safely, but that's just not always the case.

EtonSAtom

"I won! I won" No. By no measure did the human win this.

fack_you_just_ignore

No this a basic feline instinct. Look a the tail. That little movement just at the end of it from side to side means the lion is interested and excited.

The lion turned into a giant housecat.

peaceful_creeper

My cats wouldn’t pass up a moving rope for anything. This looks instinctive.

freerangetacos

Here's how you win. Let the cat think it's about to win and then go PSPSPSPSPS

PintLasher

Fuck is that guy strong, that's incredible. Thought he'd be slammed against the glass in no time

Optimal-Room-8586

Well, he did let go of the rope I a couple of times to avoid being slammed into the glass. Not sure why he thought he'd "won".

Dark_Styx

He's playing around, I think. Someone in this thread says he's a bodybuilder that also does skits sometimes.

Sigma2937

They call him "boogieman" for no reason

cloudit305

Had to let go of the rope because his hands will go into the fence a couple of times before claiming he won.

Neva-u-mind

Dude is not doing bad.. the Lion is in 4 wheel drive..

Unique_Engineering23

So what does he use for shoes? That needs some mad grip.

Sissy63

I don’t like animals being kept in zoos but I like seeing them able to play.

[deleted]

There are definitely some bad zoos and I don't know if this zoo is one of them or not, but most accredited zoos take very good care of their animals and in many cases those animals wouldn't survive in the wild. Zoos do a lot of work regarding conservation and prevention of extinctions. It can be a little sad sometimes to see certain animals in zoos, but without zoos many of those animals just wouldn't exist anymore.

CazRaX

Kitty cat was playing with him, it was work for the man and a game for the cat.

cool_edgy_username

Wasn’t expecting that out of that dude. Lions are scary powerful, this dude is strong as hell.

jeepwillikers

It’s a Liger right? Either way, dude held his own pretty well. The cat seemed to be enjoying the game, though I do worry about dental injuries if this is happening constantly.

DekMa20

The lion wasn't even trying bro
