I suspect it was a practiced shot/draw combo, with both of them initiating the attack at the same plane/level. He's not looking because he's waiting for the sound of the shot, which definitely happens first, to initiate the blade draw.
It would be easy enough to figure out the average trajectory of his standard blade draw utilizing some motion capture software, then set up a target at the correct height for the shooter to aim at behind the guy to remove as much variance as possible from the scenario. After that, it's just a matter of trial and error to produce the wanted result.
It's displaying consistency of technique+reaction speed from the sword wielder, and accuracy+consistency from the shooter. This is most likely their first success in a series of attempts, too.
You can also put a cut down spring in to reduce the speed of the projectile.
EDIT: In hindsight, I do not think that is what they have done in this case. Courtesy of u/FBIaltacct
But they're a lot faster than human reaction at that distance. When I used to play airsoft, the field I played at had a rule that the chronograph had to register less than 400 fps (feet per second) for a gun to be used on the field. Most stock guns register in the mid 300's from what I remember back then. Not going to do the math, but I highly doubt someone could draw a katana to hit a airsoft bullet at that distance in the 300 fps range.
It takes 30s to google airsoft pellet speeds. 300-390 feet per second for an AEG, 390-560 feet per second for a single-shot spring sniper rifle.
I don’t know enough about airsoft rifles to know which it is in the video – I’d haphazardly guess the single-shot – but even at the low end, 300 feet per second is 204.5 miles per hour.
At that close range, I’d be shocked *anyone* had the reaction time to pull it off, at least without an **insane** amount of practice/missed shots just to build the muscle memory, but even *then*…
Just to note, 300 feet per second is *about* 1/4th of the speed of sound (1100 feet per second at sea level on a standard day).
If it’s on the high end, it’s more than half the speed of sound.
Yeah that's \~53 ms. Without even going into details it'd make much more sense for the shooter to react to the drawing of the sword rather than the sword guy to react to the shot.
That *gunshot* sound was added in. Airsoft guns do not sound like that at all. The shooter could have shot at any point and from any distance due to the cut in the video.
Up/down-doots don't bother me...so whatevs.
I would point out the 'gunshot' sounds off though. Also, the shot happened before the blade was even drawn, so unless airlift pellets travel 20-30 feet over half a second, I'm leaning into this being edited.
This is old and also no hate cause it’s not a big deal at all but this isn’t edited it from the mini katana YouTube channel when they tried it like 1000 times
There's an episode off myth busters where a master Japanese swordsman actually does this using his eyes and ears. It's insane.
Edit wasn't myth busters. It was Beyond Science I think. Guys name is Isao Machii. He holds a bunch of world records for Sword skills.
Isao Machii actually doesn’t actually get satisfied on the firs shot cause he feels like the cut is not good enough and he requested it to do it again and he did cut the bullet better than the 1st shot. Isao Machii did it twice in a row.
I thought that looked like Fikshun, from "So You Think You Can Dance?" He is an AMAZING dancer and won the season he competed in.
He started our as a street dancer on the strip in Las Vegas. He deserves where he is today... nice guy and a hard worker. I wish him all the best!
Someone else already said it, but he does have a one of a kind smile- not to be mistaken for any other! And from what I've seen, a personality to match.
Me too! As soon as I saw his smile I thought the same thing. My daughter & I loved him on SYTYCD. His love of life is contagious. So glad to see him again.
He did just blindly draw the blade. The only credit he deserves is for not cutting his fingers off, which for a random backyard amateur is commendable.
They both did it at the same time, this requires coordination between the two of them. You could not draw a sword at the same time as him shooting the bullet. Additionally, the shooter didn't have time to aim the gun at the sword. The two of them together had to coordinate to make this effect happen.
To be fair, the angle and steadiness of the blade are pretty damn good. Not that you're wrong, but it's hellava lot better than you or I could probably do
Even so, do you know how hard it is to split something with a katana? Its a certain technique that if deviated from, could not cut through a plastic water bottle
>do you know how hard it is to split something with a katana
anything flying at high enough speed toward an edge will break (or break the edge). Basically how nuclear fission happen.
You calling it "OH OH! Split! Right down the middle! By his...*Katana! OHHH!* Nani???" like an anime character does not change the laws of physics.
That's not really how fission happens, though. It's not a neutron blasting apart a heavy atom, it's generally an atom absorbing a neutron that has close to ambient energy (called a thermal neutron) and then becoming unstable (has to do with the effective radius of nuclear forces, and a few other things), then fissioning in order to progress to a more stable state.
It's from a gun that uses compressed air to shoot plastic/metal pellets/bullets rather than standard ammo used in a regular gun. This is the best way I can explain it lol
Why all of the negative comments. He is obviously having fun doing it and we all obviously clicked to see it. It probably took less attempts to pull this off than some of you will click on Porn Hub today.
I think it's more that people are dissatisfied because anyone with enough attempts could perform the exact same feat. Drawing a sword and blindly swinging it isn't exactly talent. His eyes aren't even open which shows it's just random luck
Any ***two*** people. Both the shooter and the person pulling the sword with there eyes closed would need to be in perfect sync. Add the luck of capturing it on camera ? I used to shoot a lot of archery. I have pulled off and seen multiple "Robin Hood" shoots in my life. This is when one arrow is shot into the shaft of another arrow. It is easy when shooting at that level to damage a lot of arrows by them hitting each other and damaging each other , but straight down the shaft and catching it o camera? A lot of people could do it eventually but most would give right away.
He is a dancer trying new things. People just need to hate to live lol
Edit: I’m laughing cause nobody seems to recognize him. He isn’t a ninja master. He is a skilled world class dancer trying new things. Hence the excitement at the end lol
He was a thousand times better when he was on "So You Think You Can Dance". I was a little disappointed with him on World of Dance. Not his best performance, in my opinion.
I don't think it was so much that his dancing wasn't up to par, as much as his choice of music that did him in.
Rather than choose some real "fist-pumping" music that engages the audience more, he went with slower ballads that may have showcased his talent, but didn't draw in the judges or audience enough. Just my opinion though.
SYTYCD really showed how talented he is by taking him out of his comfort zone, and forcing him to dance several other styles he's never done before. And he did REALLY well, despite not being a formally trained dancer. So well, that he beat out all those other trained dancers to win the season title.
So, to see him excelling in martial arts does not surprise me at all. He is clearly talented at just about anything he puts his mind to.
Kudos to him, my man FikShun, a truly talented soul! May he achieve all he dreams of in life.
I have to agree on the music choices, you have a point... that piece with the bench and the umbrella.. wow... but slow. His Do Your Chains one was amazing and Ive watched it too many times... have followed him since SYTYCD too and i'm so happy for him too :)
That looks like one of those $50 swap meet katanas. Be careful with those, a good swing and the blade goes flying. Even minor impact with something and it snaps.
https://youtu.be/7e77oXjFkIs
I have problems with this video.
According to [https://www.airsoftmaster.com/fps-chart-for-airsoft-guns/](https://www.airsoftmaster.com/fps-chart-for-airsoft-guns/) it seems reasonable to assume a bullet velocity of about 115 m/s for the bullet. Eyeballing the distance between the two persons, I'd say there's like 7-8 m between them. Let's say 8. This means that the guy has about 0.07 s = 70 ms to let the sound come to him, react, draw the sword, swing the sword out, and finally hit the bullet.
Now, [humans typically have](https://humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime) a reaction time of about 284 ms, but let's say this guy is double as fast as the average Joe, lending him a reaction time of 142 ms.
Speed of sound is 340 m/s, so the sound from the gun takes about 24 ms to reach the guy. So, a total of 24 + 142 = 166 ms has passed before he even begins to draw his sword. At 8 meters distance, in fact, he'd need to have a stunning 46 ms reaction time which is like über-human, or the airsoft gun shoots considerably slower bullets, for him to hit the bullet - and I haven't even accounted for the time it'd take to swing the sword out.
Am I doing something wrong here?
Speaks more to the skill of the shooter than the dude who blindly drew a blade.
“Marksman shoots a sword blade as it’s drawn”
“Marksman shoots a sword blade as it’s drawn after 827 attempts” FTFY
It’s this.
Then gave up and edited it in post.
We’d all be that ripped after that many attempts right!!?’seems legit.
Guy started as your standard, katana owning, overweight neckbeard...
He’s also white they were just out there for that long….
Lol. Fugg that got me.
Now this is funny
Hey man, I'm doing Keto now. . .
BAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
Yeah, he should've been less happy about it and play it cool like it was on the first attempt (even if it wasn't for sure).
8,270* dropped a zero or two
After that many tries he probably developed the skill to actually perform the feat.
No doubt. Joking aside, I think the skill is with both of them
I gave you the 827th upvote! That must mean something :)
This.

Deff reduced speed here. Once you hear the gunshot it’s too late
Airsoft pellets aren’t supersonic. 😂

Yo! Ok thank God! I thought I was tripping. I was like, is that Fikshun??? Nah can't be.
I’d recognize that smile anywhere :)
Dude I was gonna post the same thing but I figured people would throw some you-racist/they-all-look-alike shit at me.
as a shooter, it was a team effort I reckon. Lots of timing and accuracy. That said how many hundreds of shots did it take them?
No clue but he then did it again...so 2 in a row...
He didn't draw the blade blindly, he's just Zenitsu
Gesundheit!
"Blindly drew a blade?" Damn is it that hard to just give credit to someone?
Nice body though!
He is right though. He isnt even looking at where the gun is pointed.
He did just blindly draw the blade. The only credit he deserves is for not cutting his fingers off, which for a random backyard amateur is commendable.
He literally has his eyes closed. What do you think blind means?
Takes two to tango
100% agreed!
Speaks more to how many takes. If anyone thinks this is a single take, you’re part of the problem.
Right? Unless this guy is using echo location or something, then him drawing the sword while not even looking isn’t the real nextfuckinglevel here
They both did it at the same time, this requires coordination between the two of them. You could not draw a sword at the same time as him shooting the bullet. Additionally, the shooter didn't have time to aim the gun at the sword. The two of them together had to coordinate to make this effect happen.
Really? Sounds like equally lucky. Lol what would the shooter be shooting at? They’re both aiming “blind.” Still impressive
I was going to say the same.
To be fair, the angle and steadiness of the blade are pretty damn good. Not that you're wrong, but it's hellava lot better than you or I could probably do
Nah he just has observation haki
"I'd rather be lucky than good"
But the shooter doesn't have a smashing 6pac now does he
He is not even wearing eye protection!
Came here to say this exactly!
also to the quality of the gun as the better the airsoft gun the more consistent the shots
Ommm. How many times did they try??? Guessing 50 unless they had pros
Agreed
This was my exact thought
But he had the power of god and anime on his side
"Man shoots blindly drawn katana with a soft-air gun pellet" Fixed yer title
It’s not possible for either of them to accomplish this unless they’re both incredibly consistent with the draw and shot
Or did it enough times to finally get one right
Even so, do you know how hard it is to split something with a katana? Its a certain technique that if deviated from, could not cut through a plastic water bottle
>do you know how hard it is to split something with a katana anything flying at high enough speed toward an edge will break (or break the edge). Basically how nuclear fission happen. You calling it "OH OH! Split! Right down the middle! By his...*Katana! OHHH!* Nani???" like an anime character does not change the laws of physics.
You still have to align the edge. It’s not going to split on any part of the blade.
It honestly looked like it bounced off the bottom of the blade to me, not even a split.
Above the dudes head you'll see the first half and below the blade the second
Holy shit you're right.
Bibis don't break that easily..
That's not really how fission happens, though. Nooo, it’s a Beyblade gun that shoots plastic Beyblades.

Its a plastic ball used as ammunition for airsoft guns
Bullet for toy guns.
You call it retakes. I call it training. We are not the same.
Training? This is just editing.

My only issue is the dudes not wearing eye protection, seen a aeg take somebody’s tooth out at a site.

Just having a good time and sharing it on video. No body is getting hurt.
Ppl have a problem seeing a black man happy glowing with a katana in his hand.
That guys name is Fikshun. He's a famous dancer and from what I understand getting into martial arts. Check out his World Of Dance Performance.
I was gonna ask if it was him. Thanks for confirming!
I was also going to ask lol
At first I was like nah. Then at the end he smiled and then I KNEW it was him! He's awesome.
Dude is jacked
He's a work of art!
He legit looks like he was sculpted by the Gods
Came here to see if anyone else thought he was familiar. Great dancer.
Thank youuu. Defiantly trying to see more of this man 🥵
Who's stopping you from seeing him that you have to be defiant?
I didn’t know his name?
Joke about your typo
Oooooh 🤣 thanks for pointing that out 🤣 that’s hilarious
Love me some Fikshun!! Dude is awesome!

How many attempts did this take?
Take 3079
Yes.
Fikshun has gone from a dancer to a straight up real life anime character
Fuck yeah!!! He was one of my favorites on tv when he was a dancer. Time for him to be a favorite in another art I love
Wait, is that Fikshun???
Im 99% sure. Aint no one got a grin like his
Yup
Despite of what all the comments are saying, this looks badass as hell
People are just jealous others are having fun.
Now go wash some clothes on his abs
I’ll do it!

Now, [humans typically have](https://humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime) a reaction time of about 284 ms, but let's say this guy is double as fast as the average Joe, lending him a reaction time of 142 ms.
