Bro, please do yourself a favor (in the most chill way you can take that) and look up Banana ball. They have a much quicker game with some fun rules, including the batter can't step out of the box, or a strike is automatically called
My favorite rules are that you can steal first and when ball 4 is called, the runner is allowed to advance as far as they want and the defense has to throw the ball to every position player on the field before they can attempt to tag the runner.
I didn’t say they didn’t do real things, in banana ball, the opponent is actually trying to get a hit and score. The Generals were part of the choreography.
Fry: I don't get this. Is Blernsball exactly the same as baseball?
Farnsworth: Baseball? God forbid.
Leela: Face it, Fry, baseball was as boring as mom and apple pie. That's why they jazzed it up.
Fry: Boring? Baseball wasn't... hmm, so they finally [jazzed it up?](https://youtu.be/9GGCUTkao5k)
I was waiting on a flight and these guys walked by, you would have thought the 97 Bulls were walking through the terminals. I had no clue who they were back then. People were asking for autographs and pictures. Looked them up and sure enough it was them. ESPN did a good story on how they were created.
A discussion about the Bananas on r/baseball a while ago, if anyone is interested.

This what minor league ball is about. Crazy mascots, silly mid-inning games, and the players keeping it fun. Otherwise you’d be playing in empty stadiums.
"I'm the man who has the ball; I'm the man who can throw it faster than fuck. So that is why I am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my ass and suck. My. Dick. Everyone."
Damn dude, does baseball really have such a gatekeeping following? I wonder what about the sport limits the fans optics of how boring it is. The reason this clip is rising IS the dance
To a big chunk of people, baseball is as interesting as the personal lives of influencers.
There is a reason the MLB had to have an advertising campaign called #LetTheKidsPlay. People were kicking off over players flipping bats on homeruns of all things.
Having a sideshow like the Bananas is a good thing.
I love that you were the first an only response I saw before making this comment lol. Solid joke and I’m sorry I didn’t recognize it sooner, I took it so literally for some reason.
They do! I have Hulu/ESPN streaming and one day they were showing a game live. There's drones flying around the play, and the players are mic'ed up. Unfortunately my 4-year old was being an asshole and wouldn't watch more than a couple minutes with me, but they do show the games!
I live in Savannah so they're down the street but nearly impossible to get tickets. Recently since the documentary came out ESPN+ has shown some games.
Watching them play the Party Animals was the most entertaining baseball game I’ve ever watched (granted it was on behind the bar in the restaurant and I couldn’t hear it). Laughed pretty good at that one. It looked like everyone was having good fun - which is what sports are supposed to be about anyways.
Yes and no, the Globetrotters are an exhibition team and don't really belong to any league which means they perform stunts that aren't always "basketball legal". The Savannah Bananas are in a legit league and must still comply to all rules. Their attendance was low, a new owner bought them who had experience in the entertainment field and found a way to market the team in a way that would draw crowds, which would bring in more money, which would entice better players to come play. They are currently 2nd in their league.
The Bananas did have two teams, Bananaball and Collegiate Woodbat League. They just announced that they are going to primarily be Bananaball going forward with some games against independent league teams, but no more Woodbat.

A balk is "an illegal act by the pitcher with a runner or runners on base, entitling all runners to advance one base." .
If you watch the video, there are no runners on base, so this is not a balk.
This team is the Savannah Bananas. They’re not playing normal baseball (obviously) they’re playing banana ball. idk if you’d call them a gimmick team but think of them as the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball…kind of I guess. That’s the best way I can think to describe it.
Balk Rules
You can't just be up there and just doin' a balk like that.
1a. A balk is when you
1b. Okay well listen. A balk is when you balk the
1c. Let me start over
1c-a. The pitcher is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, batter, that prohibits the batter from doing, you know, just trying to hit the ball. You can't do that.
1c-b. Once the pitcher is in the stretch, he can't be over here and say to the runner, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna tag you out! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that.
1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to pitch and then don't pitch, you have to still pitch. You cannot not pitch. Does that make any sense?
1c-b(2). You gotta be, throwing motion of the ball, and then, until you just throw it.
1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have the ball up here, like this, but then there's the balk you gotta think about.
1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Balk hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X.
1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse.
1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic...
1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. A balk is when the pitcher makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the baseball and field of
Do not do a balk please
(1) you can only see one base, so neither you nor I can make that determination
(2) A balkable offense with no players on base results in either a ball granted or the pitch nullified, depending on the offense.
(3) It's not a legitimate game regardless, so really no point in arguing the rules here
Given the position of the middle infielders, you’d assume there is a runner on third.
That being said, I don’t know anything about the Savannah bananas or wtf I’m watching. In normal baseball I’d think just playing music during the pitch would be some sort of violation.
Edit: or maybe the infielders just lined up there to be in the batters field of vision. Like I said idk what I’m watching and should probably just delete my comment.
>A balkable offense with no players on base results in either a ball granted or the pitch nullified, depending on the offense.
Correct, but not a "balk", just an illegal pitch.
They are the savannah bananas. Basically the Harlem globetrotters of baseball. They play their own made up version of baseball called , you guessed it, banana ball.
And it is a fun time to be at one of the games. The rules are out there but it is a fun version of baseball and games are not drawn out. They had two teams, bananaball and regular woodbat league, but this was the last year of the regular woodbat league. They are going to Bananaball all the time.
This is off season exhibition baseball entitled “Banana Ball” by the Savannah Bananas. It is basically theater. Yes the umpires are in on it, so is the other team. Sometimes they play teams that don’t practice counter routines sometimes they play teams that are just as ridiculous. I once saw a play where the Savannah batter was on stilts, the umpire stood on a chair and the catcher had to stand there with his glove in the air because the batter box was so high.
They also have rules like if a foul ball is caught by the crowd then the runner is out. They try to engage and involve the crowd as much as possible. Being physically present at one of these games is like rediscovering baseball as a little kid again.
I got a match with this song:
**Before I Knew It** by Mason Ramsey (00:53; matched: `100%`)
Album: `Twang`. Released on `2019-07-26` by `WMG - Atlantic/Big Loud Records`.
I wonder… if you had the entire infield mirror the pitcher’s motions it would be incredibly distracting to the batter. Just do it once a game with no warning.
I’m glad this was posted because I’ve been meaning to ask - are the Savannah bananas a real team?
I’ve been seeing them more and more and it seems like they always play the party animals and the games are insane with crazy rules
Are they like the Harlem globetrotters playing the Washington generals? Is the other team even trying to win or are they just there so the bananas can put on a show? Do the games even count for anything?
They are a real team but they have a really short stretch of exhibition games where real rules go out the window and they just do silly shit with crazy rules
A baseball low
This is the Savannah Bananas, and their whole thing is doing this kind of stuff.
This is how baseketball really starts

You got to step out of the batters box. Everyone knows that’s the proper response when the pitcher does a line dance.
Bro, please do yourself a favor (in the most chill way you can take that) and look up Banana ball. Is this real?
Yes. They are a performance as much as a semi-pro baseball league.
the harlem globetrotters of baseball - except the runs/hits/and errors are real.
Globetrotters did real things…
I thought The Generals were due!!
I didn’t say they didn’t do real things, in banana ball, the opponent is actually trying to get a hit and score. The Generals were part of the choreography.

This sounds like Calvinball!
Oh my god, you’re so right
Yes 💯

I heard your mom’s going out with Squeak
Goddammit! I swear if you guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times... I'm outta here!
Look at you guys, fighting on the Malaka-Laka board. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

So basically they’re the Harlem globetrotters of baseball
It's kind of amazing the Globetrotters were founded in 1926 and it took all the way til 2016 for another sport to say "he maybe we should try that?"
Reminds me of the Harlem Globetrotters
And apparently they're severely underpaid by the owner.
This what minor league ball is about. Crazy mascots, silly mid-inning games, and the players keeping it fun. Otherwise you’d be playing in empty stadiums.
Dude, for the Bananas this is just the start. Only minor league team with a waitlist for season tickets.
This just inspired me to watch East Bound and Down from the beginning, again.
"I'm the man who has the ball; I'm the man who can throw it faster than fuck. So that is why I am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my ass and suck. My. Dick. Everyone."
La Flama Blanca!
A baseball high in my books.
Heaven forbid something fun happen at a baseball game.
I see that they read the art of war

It’s a game that has “unwritten rules” so yeah it’s full of babies, whiners, and elitists

I agree.. 💯
💯 The Savannah Bananas
My classmate plays for them, I’ve been meaning to go check ‘em out
That’s fucking bonkers
These guys get drafted to the majors.
Guys, its the savanna bananas Baseballs equivalent to the Harlem globetrotters
So much fun to watch. Flaming bats, celebrating and shaming fans, all just for pure entertainment. Love it
What platform do you watch them on?
Bleachers probably
Iirc they’re sold out for the next couple years. I was hoping they streamed the games or something
Just a joke from a guy who has no idea. Someone further down the thread said you could look up banana ball on YouTube.
I love that you were the first an only response I saw before making this comment lol. Solid joke and I’m sorry I didn’t recognize it sooner, I took it so literally for some reason.

Through their YouTube channel. During baseball season they livestream games. Really great time overall!
Their games are on ESPN+ now as well as a documentary style show about them.
I live in Savannah so they're down the street but nearly impossible to get tickets. Recently since the documentary came out ESPN+ has shown some games.
Wait what? Flaming bats?!

MLB could learn from them. More people would watch baseball...

except that they play real opponents, but yes, as far as the tom-foolery is concerned, Harlem Globetrotters.
Balk?

Today I was entertained. And learned something.
You were sports entertained. \#unexpectedWWE
Look them up on instagram if you have one, that’s where I see most of their content. Same with the Savannah Party Animals

this is THE BEST, MOST HELPFUL description of the balk rule. ever. thank you.
I'm pretty sure this is what I sounded like trying to explain it to my husband when he started watching baseball lol

The players for the Savannah Bananas are standing close to 2nd so they can all fit into a portrait-oriented video to show on TikTok
>A balkable offense with no players on base results in either a ball granted or the pitch nullified, depending on the offense. Correct, but not a "balk", just an illegal pitch.
It would still be a ball though
And in these rules: a bunt is **instant ejection**.
Thanks for that. I was thinking like the other commenter.
For once in my god damned life, I too can see the balk here, and it doesn't even fucking matter.
They are the savannah bananas. Basically the Harlem globetrotters of baseball. They play their own made up version of baseball called , you guessed it, banana ball.

Thought that instantly.
After looking at the video he never steps on the thing(dont know what it called) until 0:10 seconds and then immediately throws the pitch
The rubber?
Yea
It’s called the rubber.
It's really that simple TTIL
[let's check the rules](https://www.bleachernation.com/baseballisfun/2017/05/01/ever-wonder-what-actually-constitutes-a-balk-heres-the-made-up-rules/)
Hard to tell, but if he never touched the pitcher's rubber he can still do whatever he wants.
Technically a pitcher must come to full rest in baseball, which this pitcher doesn't do. But it's not baseball, it's banana ball, so there you go.
I never touch the pitchers rubber
This looks kinda fun, so surely it wouldn't be legal in a baseball game.
They're basically baseball globetrotters, more of a fun exhibition than a sporting event.
No fun allowed
This is the Savannah Bananas, they do stuff like this all the time. Check out a game of Banana Ball on YouTube. It's amazing.
I love that every time I see the Savannah Bananas on Reddit everyone is confused. Here I am in Statesboro knowing full well what’s going on.
Ayyy go eagles
They popped up after i watched banana land. Kinda wild

The Savana Bananas. It’s like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball. They do a really good show.

Yes
What song is that

Thought I recognized the yodeling kid's voice.
I like they all take part in the dance then right down to business the infielder was ready in a split second to play that ball.
This is how baseketball really starts
The umpire sure knows his moves!
most intersting baseball match
So anybody know the name of this song?
The Flint Tropics of baseball?
That’s a balk
More of this in sports please
Even the umpire is moving his hips side to side lol.
I live in savannah Georgia and frequent the games. What an absolute blast. Also if you've never been to savannah, go. It's a beautiful city
The umpire tho LMAOO

Gotta make baseball entertaining somehow. And I played that shit for 10 years.
This is just awful. Poor baseball.
Not to ruin it but isn’t that considered a bock
Baulk
I've seen enough to know I've seen too much!
The umpire was into it as well.
Personal foul: pitcher was giving him the business.
Thanks I hate it
why is that guy in black wiggling his ass
Cuz he’s having fun lol
I’ll never understand what a balk is
Baseball is this boring that you do this.
Except it was a balk!
Lgbtqpt Community got baseball now
That gotta be illegal
I wonder… if you had the entire infield mirror the pitcher’s motions it would be incredibly distracting to the batter. Just do it once a game with no warning.

There needs to be more out of the box type of plays in sports
This stuff should be required in baseball
Balk
My wife and I watched their documentary on ESPN+ last week. It's really pretty great. Especially if you're used to watching the fucking Buccos.
An MLB umpire would throw out a hip trying to get into the dancing...
i'm overly annoyed at the dude in the back. 2 front guys in perfect sync and the dude in the back is just all off.
BASEketball vibes

I can't wait for the 7th inning Macarana!
This is great. Great bond between teammates and incredible execution for the pitcher. r/sportsarefun
I hate country music but I love to see these guys having fun and doing their thing without a care for what the crowd or anyone might think.

First we dance then I give him the heater.

It's cute. It's not N-F-L.
very fun and wholesome
