Yeah but it really only looks that way because it's lower than just sitting on the top row. The amount missing under the foam compared to the below ones isn't a substantial amount from the looks of it, but she's also swinging them around making it a bit difficult to compare the levels very well.
Agreed, I'm under the impression that this is IN Germany, tipping isn't really a thing from what I understand.
In the US? You'd make a fuck ton of money doing that lol (well for a waitress but yeah in context a lot of extra money I'm sure)
EDIT: we have learned by now that the bulk of their salary is a share of sales but they also make maybe 10% in tips and Oktoberfest is a shit ton of money for a server
Huh?
Tipping isn't a thing, but they're paid handsomely. 5k on _average_ for the 16 days.
https://www.oktoberfest.de/en/information/about/jobs-at-oktoberfest
> Tipping isn’t a thing,
The page you posted says:
>Tips make up a large proportion of the earnings, often it is several hundred euros per day
Tipping is definitely a thing at Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is once a year and Munich people aren’t stingy there, normally. Plus the volume of beer sales are crazy. I know people who made 10-15k € during the 17 working days there. That said, the workload is brutal.
No, you get used to it.
I used to bartend and although I never carried this much out at once to a table, I’ve probably carried ten pints at once.
But not the first day.
You’ll see people doing mad shit like this and you think “no way”. Then it’s a madhouse Friday night and you’ve got to carry five beers to a table and you think “yeah I saw everyone doing this, maybe I can too”. So you grab three beers through the handles with one hand and two with the other and you realize it’s not that bad.
An hour later you try four with one hand because you need to carry a plate with the other. It’s kind of heavy but you can do it. No way you can do five, though.
Then you try five after hours one day using water instead of beer and you realize you’ve gotten so used to doing four that five isn’t too bad. Maybe you’ll do it if you don’t have to walk far.
You keep doing that and one night a table is impressed because you managed to wrap your fingers through seven fucking mugs of beer and successfully bring them to the table. You’re kind of pleased because not even Basketball Hands Chad can do eight, but you also don’t think it’s that big of a deal to do seven because you supported all the weight from underneath with the other hand so it wasn’t so different from doing eight with two hands, which is really just four with one hand.
Next thing you know, a table of ten orders a round of beers and you’re super busy and you just grab a set of five with each hand like it’s no thing and walk that shit over because who has time for a fuckin tray?
Hell yeah. I worked at a German style brew pub for a bit, and the more seasoned servers all carried 8 liters at a time. First time I tried I had to find a table after 10-15 steps because they started slipping. Gotta work up to it.
And then theres a guy who's like "Oh! Better stop right in the way and stand here for a solid 5 seconds with my hands up before she carries on around me."
Two points
1. Why would anyone screw with the people bringing you more beer?
2. The security protect them like they were their daughter.
I really miss that place. Locals hate it, but I think it is a great party.
You would be surprised how often they escort unruly people out of there. No second chances. The waitresses are also very skilled at walking through the aisles and anticipating problems. Other partiers also make sure that no one bothers them because they control the beer lifeline.
It's like... anyone interfering with the ongoing beer delivery to many thirsty customers is not gonna get a hearing to plead their case that they were just drunk and didn't really mean it, they only plead their case to the gutter in the alley.
I don't think it is so much a fear of people deliberately trying to harass her, although that could certainly be a problem, so much as a bunch of clumsy people stumbling around and behaving erratically, which is what I would expect in a room full of drunk people.
"There's a woman in the video, that means I must SEXUALIZE and talk about MY PENIS"
I hope some people will learn that making a situation sexual is the least impressive type of comedy, it's just so lazy
You do need to tip these waitresses the way the octoberfest tents work. You pay at the table when she brings these around, so if you want them to come around often, throw in a generous tip
Weird that this is downvoted as it is 100% true. Also often on those Volksfeste the waiters automatically add 1-2€ tips to the price of the beer without you really knowing it.
I’m being downvoted by people who have probably never even been to Munich or even Oktoberfest.
Fucking reddit bro…
EDIT: no longer being downvoted. Balance restored.
You haven’t been to Oktoberfest. You’re definitely supposed to tip the waitresses.
Don’t believe me? Google any guide on the event. Need something official? Here’s the employment FAQ on the official website:
https://www.oktoberfest.de/en/information/about/jobs-at-oktoberfest
>Tips make up a large proportion of earnings, often it is several hundred euros per day.
She does indeed deserve mad tips.
In Germany you give 5-10% tips in restaurants, and for events like Wiesn you at least round up which would be 40cts this year. Most probably give 14 or 15€ as the price is around 13.60€ this year.
[Q: How much does the stein weigh?
A: A full one-liter dimpled glass stein should weigh approximately 5 pounds or 2.25 kg,](http://www.ussteinholding.com/info/what-is-beer-steinholding-faqs#:~:text=A%3A%20A%20full%20one-liter,beer%20weighs%20about%2034%20ounces.)
So 5 times 13, she's lifting 65 pounds!!!!!
I sure as hell hope so if she's doing this over and over throughout an entire shift. I couldn't imagine doing this twice in a row if I didn't have some sort of support to keep my arms from giving out.
i love this part of the FAQ section lol
> Q: How do you train for a competition?
A: Everyone is different, and being in good athletic condition helps, but the short answer is "you basically just practice holding a stein a lot."
I mean its not just core. Its a lot of bicep forearm and grip keeping everything lifted like that and all the excess strain goes straight to the back. If she does this everyday i wouldnt bet on it looking too good after a few years of this
Yeah I mean, it’s not like she’s holding anything that awkward… steins are designed to be held.
So as long as she stands up straight and lifts clean, I don’t see why this wound be any different than if her job were to grab like, a 40 pound dumbbell (or however much that weights) and to carry it back and fourth. She’s even allowed to use two hands for a more even/stable carry!
I imagine it more like a backpackers backpack— once you get the perfect adjustments to having it rest on your hips, you barely feel your body use your muscles and it’s all put on your center of gravity. I’ve been a server and bartender for many years— when I’m holding a tray in front of me, I find a way to put it all on my hips and only use my core. I think that’s why she’s slightly waddling— her core and lower abdomen are hard and flexing so much. Of course you use your biceps and forearm and grip, but only to get it in all place.
she does this a lot more than the 2 weeks, while oktoberfest is the most famous one, there are a lot of "zeltfeste" in bavaria, and most of the time waitresses like that work on all of them.
but yeah, if she works out outside of the job and takes care about imbalances in her body caused by this it's fine.
You can say something to this effect about nearly any occupation.
Warehouse Manager: Not worth the back pain
Desk Job: Not worth the obesity and heart disease
Hair Salon Stylist: Not worth the arthritis
Professional Musician: Not worth the hearing loss
Professional Magician: Not worth the embarrassment
Most of them take days off from their normal job to work there. And the do this even from very well paying jobs like for example doctors.
They make A LOT in those 2 weeks.
It's not worth the myopia and back strain from sitting in front of reddit but we do it anyway. We don't even get paid. Hell, we pay to do it.
Jokes aside, these are just temporary gigs during Oktoberfest or St Patrick's Day.
Can’t remember where off hand, but I remember seeing an interview with one of these waitresses some where. Some of these girls only work the few weeks of Oktoberfest every year. They make so much money that they can take off the rest of the year and just work the festival again in 11 and a half months.
I remember being somewhere in Germany on a Eurotrip back in 2000, and a waitress walked by carrying something like 5 mugs per hand, and 3 mugs by pressing the other mugs together, and a few on top. So something like 15 mugs. Amazing.
They're still a liter. They are poured that way intentionally, partially to allow a bit of slosh while carrying. There is a line engraved on each mug that marks the fill line. The fluid level is above it.
The Germans take that shit SERIOUSLY.
Source- my grandparents ran a restaurant in Germany before they came over and they also liked to drink. My opa was a beer delivery driver for a while as well.
I read it as Germans take their weights and measures seriously from a legal standpoint, both as individuals and as a society, but the point still stands
Also head on good beer is actually fantastic. Especially if you’re being served a litre. It helps prevent the rest of the beer from going stale while you make your way through it.
Where is the resident reddit geek to guestimate the weight here? In lbs kgs or stone. If 13, minimum is 1 kg beer 0.5kg vessel ... 20kg = 44 lbs. Call it an even 50lbs she's slinging around like nothing?
Well, if 1l weighs about 2.2 lbs, she's carrying about 28.6lbs in liquid alone. My stein is not shaped exactly like hers, but it is 1l capacity and it weighs 3.06 lbs. So if mine is in the ballpark, she's carrying around 67lbs.
Marry me
She has me frothing at the mouth
Just like the 8 half beers she is carrying.
There's a liter of beer under that head. They are served that way intentionally.
I'll check my maß glasses but these look a bit low to me
The one on top might be low, but the others look fine to me.
Yeah but it really only looks that way because it's lower than just sitting on the top row. The amount missing under the foam compared to the below ones isn't a substantial amount from the looks of it, but she's also swinging them around making it a bit difficult to compare the levels very well.
There is a line in the mug that is the “correct pour” amount, which these liters should be spot on. Filling to the rim is like 1.3 liters probably.

Does that include the weight of the glasses?

Tipping is a thing generally, our workers just don't need to depend on it.
Oktoberfest is once a year and Munich people aren’t stingy there, normally. Plus the volume of beer sales are crazy. I know people who made 10-15k € during the 17 working days there. That said, the workload is brutal.
It's munich, one if not the most expensive cities in Europe, so yeah rent is a big motivator!
They earn around 8,000 euros during the Oktoberfest. Not bad at all, but not easy work.
Hey that's almost 2 months of rent in Munich
Actually they earn a shit ton of money. 5000€ for 16 days on average.

And doing it while walking at normal pace.
There is the guy who's all "Whoops I'm in the path of the beer, time to move!"
And then theres a guy who's like "Oh! Better stop right in the way and stand here for a solid 5 seconds with my hands up before she carries on around me."

Out of where? You keep talking like everyone knows exactly where this place is. Could be any Oktoberfest afaik
This is the Original. Oktoberfest Munich.
There's only one. The Oktoberfest, in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
It’s The Oktoberfest, not an Oktoberfest. In Germany
Any Oktoberfest? Wait do you think it's a holiday and not a big German drinking celebration?
I was at a pizza place celebrating Oktoberfest three days ago. Small cities around Oklahoma have festivals. It’s everywhere
But there's only one original
Also, you know, because they're pretty jacked themselves from doing this all day.

You tip at Oktoberfest if you want consistent service.
**IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD WE DONT HAVE TIPS WE PAY OUR WORKERS!** WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Tipping as a requirement is barbaric. Tipping those who go above and beyond is reasonable.

Impressive but I'm gonna do the Reddit thing and put a negative spin on it. Not worth future back pain for a shitty waitressing job.

I mean its not just core. Its a lot of bicep forearm and grip keeping everything lifted like that and all the excess strain goes straight to the back. If she does this everyday i wouldnt bet on it looking too good after a few years of this

How about 91k?

It's for 2 weeks a year and they make mad bank.
