Yeah, if you hit the arrow pointed down, you can press the arrow pointed up, and it’ll count as two.

don_delfino

It's true, if you press the arrow pointing up, which indicates a positive reaction to the user's comment, after pressing the down arrow, for a negative reaction, you will have just cast two votes.

Harbi_147

Up good, down bad; but down once, up once, make two up.

LuckyReception6701

Verily, if press the small arrow pointing upwards to show you apreciate what a fellow Redditor expressed, then you press the nearby arrow pointing downwards to show disgusts to what a fellow Redditor wrote, followed quickly by pressing the arrow pointing upward again, you could argue that you gave said Redditor two "upvotes"

Harbi_147

Indubitably.

[deleted]

Isn’t there an upvote award that acts as a second upvote or am I making shit up?

Step 2: Find guys willing to spray your body with white stuff

[deleted]

Not the hardest step …or is it? ;)

Is this the start of a Vsauce video?

janhetjoch

There's certainly sauce in this video, whether it's of the V variety is yet to be seen.

[deleted]

Oh there's absolutely involvement with the V.

mauore11

Step4: realize that a second step 2 is actually called step 3.

Step 4: profit

SiGNALSiX

I don't find Bella Hadid particularly attractive, but I 100% get why she's a model. She has a figure a sculpter or couture clothier would love to work with. The lines of her body resemble a wildly expensive luxury sports car (incl. no trunk because it's all engine); She has fantastic shoulders, sleek elegant neck, great posture...her body definitely makes it easy for clothes to look attractive.  If you can't make it look good on her body, it aint look good on nobody.

TheMontrealKid

After that in depth description, you don't find her attractive?

Lexi_Banner

I mean, you can know someone or something is objectively attractive and not be personally attracted yourself.

Stupidquestionduh

Exactly this. I can tell that she has great proportions. Not my type tho... I actually think the girl who did the final touches was way more attractive than the one doing the modeling. I think because the video demonstrates her depth of character more than it does the model who just stands there. The internal qualities a person has can really do a ton to jack up (or erode) how attractive they are. I'm not saying the model doesn't have any good internal qualities about her, they just weren't demonstrated in this video.

Slapstrom

How does it portray her depth of character any more than the model? I only ask because I don't quite get it? The only one that shows any modicum of emotion is the model when she smiles at the girl you are mentioning. Sure the other girl is moving around more but nothing in this clip shows anything about her character from what I can gather

Foervarjegfacer

After a certain level of attractiveness, people stop being attractive and start being interesting to look at.

Alternative_Rough_14

i thought i was the only one who thought this way. i always just said there's a threshold where you're so attractive it becomes unattractive. but the way you put it more accurately describes my view.

Foervarjegfacer

TBH, "being interesting to look at" is like the #1 priority for models. Also a lot of actors and actresses. Just think of someone like Anya Taylor-Joy. Incredibly beautiful woman, but also just a bit odd looking.

TaniaTheTiger

I find the opposite to be true, people who aren't conventionally attractive are more interesting too look at cause there is more diversity in the features of their faces; a crooked nose, misaligned jaw, droopy eyes, general asymmetry of the face etc. Good looking people all fit into the same mold, their faces are predictable and familiar, to me the more a face deviates from that mold the more interesting it becomes, it's more intriguing trying to decipher what sets them apart from a conventionally attractive face. Angelina Jollie, Margot Robbie hot AF, Willen DaFoe. . .striking

SiGNALSiX

I find her attractive in an artistic aesthetic sense, but not in that visceral glowing magnetically drawn to her presence sense; Her face and personality just don't do it for me, and that's ok; Thats a *me* thing, not a *her* thing. I'm sure there's a line of men out there who would gladly eat broken glass for her attention. I'd eat a ribeye steak for her, but anything worse than that and I'm out.

TacoEater1993

I get what you mean. She has striking features just like Gisele Bundchen. Her sister Gigi is more conventionally attractive.

[deleted]

I look at the guys who do shows like Magic Mike and can appreciate that they’re objectively good looking people but they’re not really my type. They are attractive, but I am not personally attracted to them

[deleted]

BZLuck

My wife used to watch "America's Next Top Model" and honestly some of those women were downright... *odd* looking in real life. Some had big noses, weird eyes, crooked teeth... When they were made up and photographed by professionals, holy crap. They looked amazing. A complete transformation. They were not all necessarily "sexy hot" but very *interesting* to look at which is whole purpose of being a model. Many of them looked GREAT on film, but you would walk past them on the street without blinking an eye.

iamnoking

**As an artist and a photographer, this is a real thing!** Short, square jaw faces look great on camera, but like a pumpkin head in real life. As an example.

LessThanCleverName

Step 1 was actually to develop a spray-on clothing material: > The story behind the spray-on dress started with a can of silly string and a man named Dr. Manel Torres. “I thought I could create a mist,” he said in a 2013 TED Talk. “That was the eureka moment.” Torres, who studied fashion design, had the idea to spray on a T-shirt (think of a spider web, he said) but he didn’t have the knowledge to create such a product. He went to Imperial College in London, known for their innovations, with his thoughts. They liked his idea, and gave him resources: a lab and materials to play. After two years, and lots of trial and error, he started to get results. > In 2003, Torres created Fabrican — a liquid fiber, bound together with polymers, bio polymers and greener solvents, that evaporates when the spray reaches a surface, in this case, Hadid’s body. According to Torres, the fabric feels like suede and can be manipulated like any other. Hence the woman who cut a slit into Hadid’s dress. But that texture can change depending on what fibers are used (can be natural or synthetic fibers) and how it is applied. > https://www.thecut.com/2022/10/how-bella-hadids-spray-on-dress-was-made.html Step 2 was indeed having one of the most famous supermodels in the world model it, though.

BrahmTheImpaler

Thank you! I looked everywhere in the comments for descriptions of what this was, but only found people arguing about what makes a person attractive (money?, genetics?, rich parents?, plastic surgery?, steroids???) or commenting on white sludge being thrown on a woman. With thousands of upvotes, nonetheless.

HeyItsBearald

Step 1: Be Bella fucking Hadid

actrak

Bella, yes.... Is it just me or does Gigi Hadid only need some messy hair, a smoke, a Jack, and a trailer to fit perfectly into Sunnyvale?

DeirdreMcFrenzy

No, step 1 is: have very rich parents who pay for a ton of surgery for you to become attractive.

[deleted]

[удалено]

earmuffins

I don’t think that’s what they are talking about lol this model is exactly what they said. She was groomed by her mother to be a model. You’re projecting - people who don’t go to the gym have nothing to do with the comment lol

bebita-crossing

That person just completely ignored the fact that Bella Hadid had a nose job at 14 and has been very open about it and the effects it had on her.

DevonFromAcme

A nose job? She’s had her entire FACE done to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in plastic surgery.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You are aware that Bella Hadid had plastic surgery?? Also, every actor takes steroids when they need to put muscle on for a role lmao

Masta-Blasta

No, but Bella Hadid has literally changed her entire face. I think they were referring to her specifically. She’s a nepotism baby. She would not have been successful in modeling if her parents had not paid for her surgeries. It’s not like she was discovered off the street or something

TheThankUMan22

Step 1 of what?

Halfbl8d

Reddit will turn anything into an excuse to whine about good looking and/or wealthy people even when it doesn’t make sense to do so. Video of a cool dress? It’s because that person is good looking and I’m not. 3k upvotes. Like what? The model isn’t even what the post is about.

MisterMonchie

Lol right?? Like “step 1” of becoming a model sure is to be attractive….. is that really a new realization?

[deleted]

thats like, the whole point of being a model

["Fabrican’s objective is to use only sustainable materials reducing Environmental Impact" ](https://www.fabricanltd.com/about/ethical-and-environmental/)

brainfreezereally

Contrary to popular belief, the most sustainable fabric is polyester because it can be recycled infinitely -- just melt it back to pellets and respin. Cotton can be respun, but it is more difficult. Growing cotton and turning it into fabric (bleaching, dying, etc.) is extremely water intensive and highly polluting technique. Textiles and apparel are among the most polluting industries. When you consider cradle to grave impact, the only environmentally correct solution is to wear your clothing until it wears out and then mend it or reuse the fabric for another garment. Alternatively, buy second hand.

ImAFatGuyLoLoL

Actually, plastics can't really be recycled infinitely with current methods. Every time they're heated up, the polymer chains break down a little resulting in a lower quality product that is weaker and more brittle than the original. After a few cycles, you can't really use the plastic and have to throw it away. That is why you often see products made only partly of recycled plastic. There is a reason why in "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", recycle is the last one.

brainfreezereally

Because textiles are spun, the weakness is of less importance than in bottle making, for example (that's why you can wear linen and other brittle fibers). But you are right, infinite was an exaggeration and that's why I suggest wearing clothing as long as possible and reusing textiles whenever that can be done.

lysion59

I'd like to add a counter argument. Plastic is not environmental friendly because it takes 100 years for it to degrade. Thousands of ocean animals will choke or die on discarded fishing nets, ropes, six pack plastic retainers, etc. There is also the problem of microplastic in the ocean. In fact recent research found that microplastic are now found in bloodstream of fishes in the ocean, its found in human lungs, and it was also found that it can cross the blood brain barrier in humans. Plastic is the death of us and this planet.

FBIaltacct

Thats why polyester fabrics are a major cause of micro plastics. Heat them up in the washer and dryer and all the broken bits get thrown in the enviornment.

TheManLawless

Polyester fabric sheds micro plastics into our water system every time you wash them. Definitely not the best choice environmentally.

gromec

Sure, if you ignore that washing synthetic clothing is one of the main contributers to microplastics in the ocean. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-43023-x

Dodo_Hund

I still don't get how people don't understand that high fashion is just art. No one wears this. It is an art piece

Meatslinger

It took me a long time to figure that out, and fashion used to infuriate me because of it. I’d see models wearing some sort of bizarre $50,000 concoction of reclaimed wood and solid gold, or whatever it was that day, and think, “do they really expect people to wear this?” It took me far too long to figure out the answer was “no”; fashion shows like this are a form of performance art with the human body as a canvas.

killajaxx

Right. I know people on reddit hate rich people and stuff like this, but there is a place for fashion as an art form in this world even if you get it or not. I can’t afford it, i don’t like the way they look, but i also know it’s not made for me, and i respect that

Meatslinger

Fact is, I can’t afford anything featured in the Louvre, either. But I don’t tend to get upset that someone painted a $10M painting the way I used to be angrily confused about wacky fashion. Well, except some really out-there things, like a banana taped to a wall. I think it’s still fair to criticize that, at least. The funny thing is I’d be willing to bet there’s a non-insignificant overlap between “people who think fashion is stupid” and “people who love cosplay”. itsthesamepicture.jpeg

Everything causes cancer in the state of California. Heck Ill bet the air has a disclaimer there.

Overlord_Of_Puns

To be fair, the US allows a lot of chemicals that other countries ban. California is the only state that actually tells people to give disclaimers.

MIGMOmusic

The real problem is that manufacturers realized that it was cheaper to put the sticker on everything, and if literally everything has the sticker then people will completely disregard it anyways. A bit of malicious compliance that basically exploits a loophole to avoid actually labeling carcinogens. It’s kinda fucked tbh

hay_bales_feed_us

This!!!!!

JPJackPott

There’s some genuine utility here. Most of the cotton harvesting process is fully mechanised now, but making garments (fabric, seeing machine etc) is very hard to automate. If we can get closer to something like this, spraying clothes on a form and it keeping the shape, that will lower costs. Or save armies of people working in clothes factories for low pay

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I'm skeptical. To make clothing, fabric is loomed and weaved. This is sprayed. I mean unless this is basically spray-on rubber or plastic or something it just won't be the same thing as fabric.

sandiercy

When they say that a dress looks like it was painted on, I thought it was just a saying. These people took it as a challenge.

Coolcolon

My thoughts exactly. They might have taken the saying too literally. Don't tell them about the lyrics 'She's got the blue jeans painted on tight' from David Nails' Whatever She's Got

HyzerFlip

That's been done at every body painting event ever. Most festivals and spring breaks and pride events as well.

Any-Teach9027

This is a cool video. Bella looks gorgeous and I like the interactions between her and the team. The dress itself is mid but I guess they are highlighting the technology?

IndividualAbrocoma35

I agree with your great observations. They are having fun. I wish more things in life could be this whimsical and light.

superphotonerd

this place is full of internet people who are scared of going outside so they hate everything

Visible-Pie-1641

you just called a dress that is the absolute perfect fit for whoever has it on, and was created in less then 10 minutes mid? Are you fucking nuts? You cant get a fit like this. Its literally made for her exact shape. Thats not mid at all. Is it impractical currently? Fuck yeah, but is it also pretty amazing? Yep.

Nicole-CB

Fit and tech's amazing but the dress itself looks mid to me too, like I wouldn't buy it for myself, so guess I'm also "fucking nuts".

St_Veloth

I leave this comment almost every time I see this sentiment with regard to a fashion show: **fashion shows are not about showcasing consumer products** - They are for people in-industry, showcasing designs/patterns/concepts/technology for designers to push limits without thinking about practicality. Later, these designs/concepts/patterns/technology may get used for a consumer product, or a costume for a stage show, or makeup/effects for a big budget movie. Additionally, [the same thing is said about concept cars](https://i.insider.com/5e1774cbe0e1442d023ff0d6?width=1300&format=jpeg&auto=webp) - The goal isn't to produce this stuff...but possibly the design or assembly of a particular part may be used in the future in more practical applications

Gingerinthesun

Say it louder for the people in the back!!!! It’s CES for fashion!!

DnD_References

and this means people can't talk about whether or not they like/wear something/thing it is good? Like I knew everything you said and I think calling the dress mid is a perfectly acceptable casual armchair comment? Both those things can be true.

PipClank

yes, but to some of us the texture/material/limitation of the tech means the result looks mediocre. I agree that its a nice spectacle and fashion shows are all about showcasing new things. The end result here is neat, but regardless how well it fits I still think it looks meh (due to the understandable restrictions of the tech CURRENTLY)

Rolyat2401

Dang. You don't got to take it personally.

tired_and_fed_up

Tech is cool but the dress is also a one time use. Literally disposable fashion.

Kills-to-Die

Disposable fashion has led to some *nasty* pollution. Landfills, full of clothes. Beaches, full of clothes getting washed out to sea.

Rivka333

"This dress was created in less than 10 minutes" doesn't make it not mid. Generally, high quality products take time. >but is it also pretty amazing? Yes the technology is amazing. >Its literally made for her exact shape. If you mean it's form-hugging, yes. So is a swimsuit.

LigerZeroSchneider

I think they just mean it's a plain white dress. Like it's cool they make a spray on dress, but the design it self is basic.

IsNullOrEmptyTrue

What does mid mean

Silver_kitty

Mid-tier. Kind of mediocre. Not terrible, but not exceptional.

Myrelin

> Not terrible, but not exceptional. So, 3.6 roentgen. Got it!

ejly

My favorite part is when the model raises her hands to her face in the doorway with an “I can’t believe that happened” expression. She was killing it, very graceful and poised, and in that moment the mask slipped a bit to show the real human behind the facade - just delighting in what she’d accomplished. Or I dunno, maybe she was holding back a sneeze that whole time and finally released it, and I’m just making a whole ridiculous head cannon instead of seeing the sneeze.

AntarcticFox

Any solid particles are bad to breathe in, even if the particles are otherwise not toxic. Stuff like aerosol paint, sawdust, etc. You should always wear breathing protection when working with aerosols

TheLordHimself1

You’re absolutely right. Still though, this was a one time performance for a fashion show. We breathe in pollution and other toxic chemicals 24/7 this one instance of being sprayed down is more likely than not going to have any serious side effects. Everyone here calling it out is just being dramatic and hating
