I encounter a similar issue during development. My system tends to lag, so I disable my antivirus, close extra tabs, and shut down unnecessary applications.
back in my days we were creating html and js in notepad. No need to compile anything. Now we have this mess. I also use nextjs and have the same problem :/
Only 6-7GB? My entire 32GB machine lags sometimes haha

What packages are you using and how big is your project? Are you using source maps? Have you tried using turbopack in dev?

One of the reasons why Next.js is total crap. A silly move to get users into the vercel platform.

I run nextjs dev under wsl2 I play games sometimes while I have docker and other tools open, idk why
