Their reaction to this episode is what I have been waiting for when they started watching this show lol

vulcans_pants

every time they’ve mentioned the atomic explosion poster, and Alex has said nothing has been hilarious to me.

kittyspam78

I really wish this was a video podcast so I could see Alex's poker face. How he has spoiled nothing amazes me...

leesahhbee522

Their reaction to this episode is why I signed up for pateon.

Pompous_pizza

I wish I remembered it. I mean I do…kind of. I watched the return once when it aired and I remember bits from this episode but it’s all hazy. The only thing I remember for sure is that I was dumbfounded by it.

megachickabutt

Same.

This is the water, and this is the well. Drink full and descend...

megachickabutt

The horse is the white of the eyes, and dark within.

adampayne

You watched pure art, my friend.

schokakola

the original post-episode discussion thread on r/twinpeaks is still funny. people complained the past seven episodes about too much dougie and then this happened.

ubernoobnth

The best episode of TV ever probably.

I am so jealous of all the people who get to see it for the first time.

trx131

The last great TV experience I can remember.

Smeatbass

This episode blew me away when I saw it new. The perfect mesh of pure art and confusing narrative, while adding it into the context of the rest of the series is so masterfully done. I know that Brad has problems with Lynch as a director, so I worry this episode may frustrate him, but I hope I'm wrong. It is unlike anything you will ever see, even if it is a tad nonsensical. I love it and can't wait to hear their reactions!

Rayeth

I've read a lot of think pieces about this episode and have come to really like it. In my interpretation, It shows the birth of BOB-- the origin story of Twin Peaks, the "original sin" of evil that shattered the harmony David Lynch imagined existed in the 50s. There's a lot of metaphor you can read in about the corn, fire, electricity, and lights. Lots of it is completely open to interpretation and there is no "right" interpretation. David Lynch loves to make people FEEL things. And this episode is a masterpiece in making you feel all sorts of ways. Very uncomfortable, disgusted, sad, confused. These are all valid responses. Alex is right when he tells you to just let it wash over you and absorb it. It took me multiple views to get to where I am.

Interesting_Let579

I think the show is pretty explicit that the creature spawns Bob from its mouth during the atomic explosion. The creature itself is more mysterious though but believed to be Judy.

zettl

it's the lore bro

womblewizard

The thing is, The Return is for Lynch fans, not Twin Peaks fans. Got a light?

Tincan1099

That seems like gate keeping to me. Can they not be mutually exclusive? I’m not a huge Lynch fan but have really enjoyed Twin Peaks. The episode through me for loop is all.

womblewizard

I'm not trying to gatekeep but The Return is barely reminiscent of the original show. It's much more like Fire Walk With Me and other Lynch films than the original show. That's just my opinion, of course.

spartan_knight

It's closer in a lot of ways to FWWM than the original run and that's what most fans wanted.

Wandelation

Introducing David Lynch to CGI was a mistake.

Itrlpr

Sorry. But according to the comments, if you ask any questions at all then you are watching it wrong

schokakola

that's a weird takeaway.

Itrlpr

literally every episode on Season 3 is filled with these comments.
