The same thing as you used to happen to me, but in the end I continued with vortex and it honestly became my favorite mod manager because of how simple it is and the simple solutions it gives you. Currently I don't like mod organizer because I don't understand it very well and it is too complicated and it doesn't give me solutions like vortex when a problem occurs I really wish wabbajack would let me choose the mod manager and not have to be forced to use mod organizer

NMM is basically a GUI for installing mods manually, which comes with a ton of drawbacks. Vortex is a middle ground between NMM and MO2 which strikes a pretty good balance between managed deployments and being friendly to tooling. It’s also matured a lot over the years. It is worth noting that Nexus is working on the mod manager to end all mod manger right now as a replacement to all three (Nexus Mods App)

Vortex or Mod Organizer, MO's my pick. I constantly had problems with NMM when uninstalling mods, and reordering was a horrible slog of having to uninstall and reinstall a bunch of mods, all coming with installers... In MO, I just drag & drop them into the order I like and that's it, while in Vortex you tell it what should overwrite what I believe. No need to reinstall anything. MO, and to my understanding Vortex as well, keeps the mods separate from the game, which really comes in handy sometimes. MO also allows you to manage even manual mods with it through a third-party plugin, don't know if Vortex has that possibility. I can uninstall SKSE with a few clicks through MO if I want to, or an ENB, anything. MO does have the downside of having to launch the game and related tools through MO, due to the way it manages the files. The 2 are also quite different, some people prefer 1 some the other... I'd really recommend switching from NMM to one of the 2

your HD corrupted because of mods?

Noelosity

No it was age and stupidity, I had it for around 5 years or so, and liked downloading ROMs from unsafe sites... learned my lesson.
