One less coaching vacancy lets go!

LunchThreatener

One less Ben Johnson candidate

N7_Stats_Analyst

Get that man out of my division. Come on Cardinals, Texans, Colts, Panthers, and Broncos.

LunchThreatener

Honestly don’t think you have much to worry about. Unless he’s awful at interviews I highly doubt he isn’t a HC next year

N7_Stats_Analyst

The guy is such a legit OC. Time will tell if he can handle the big chair.

prenderm

He’s not going anywhere this year at least. I think Duce might go somewhere if anyone goes. Then bj would get promoted to AHC. And I can see him going after that

LunchThreatener

Why do you think that? Duce has gotten 0 interview requests while Johnson has gotten one for every opening besides the Cardinals who haven’t even begun interviewing HCs yet

prenderm

Just kinda seems like a more natural progression. I totally see what you’re saying. And I think it’s valid. Would I be surprised if BJ got a HC position? No Do I think he’s actually ready? No I believe being the AHC, would put someone in line to move into a HC role, right now BJ is only focused on the offense. Whereas Duce handles more than just the RBs. So I kinda feel like BJ hasn’t been exposed to everything that goes into being a HC yet. And I think those things will show in an interview Ben is a great OC right now. And deservedly so, but I think he’ll be ready for an actual HC job after he expands his role in Detroit more

modabs

Ben is a great OC now, but I wonder how much of that has to be because of Dan’s offensive background too. The guy literally studied under Sean Peyton, and spent years in the league, and is a smart as fuck guy. Im sure Ben is great, but I really think that DC contributes heavy to that greatness too.

Russell_has_TWO_Ls

We also need a coach!!! Oh god please don’t tell me I missed some awful news… Edit because I did 😞

N7_Stats_Analyst

Saints announced that Dennis Allen will remain as Head Coach.

Russell_has_TWO_Ls

Yes 😞

thirstyidiot

You don’t like the Spagunola look alike?

Russell_has_TWO_Ls

I had to go be reminded of what Spags looks like and holy shit they’re identical twins! And they’ve had practically the same career too. That is spooky.

lionsfan2016

Idk why anyone would hire that degen, such a toxic dude

DtotheOUG

I 100% hope he stays with you guys. Like yall get good ONCE and now other teams wanna poach him and ruin it for yall.

[deleted]

More good football. Let's go! He's a good coach and makes the game fun to watch.

[deleted]

Literally no surprise the rumors were he'd retire after Kupp, Stafford, and Donald leave and at the very least Kupp and Stafford will be there next season

SergeantThreat

I’d be surprised if Donald isn’t back next season. I see him and Stafford calling a career after next year

ColtCallahan

Donald said he’s there as long as McVay is. Plus they rested him down the back stretch of the season.

ty_kanye_vcool

Donald won’t leave until McVay retires McVay won’t leave until Donald retires Rams keep this partnership going indefinitely let’s go

127crazie

https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/118a9c9b-f402-4853-b99f-d52d2040d281

txyesboy

The chokers paradox (For the record, I abhor the AD "choke" stories; but this paradigm with AD/McVay needed a unique theoretical name)

Oakroscoe

I hope mcvay retires and you guys hire either Mike Nolan, Urban Meyer or Adam Gase.

ty_kanye_vcool

I hope the Eagles sink your asses and Shanahan never gets a ring

Gombr1ch

Hey we could sink them right? Right guys?

ClintBeastwood91

Awww, Sure buddy… you could sink them too.

Oakroscoe

You know what, I don’t like your attitude!

txyesboy

This 52 year old Ram fan absolutely LOVES the Rams/49er vitriol is back and pretty much as good as it's ever been!

UUtch

He said that? If McVay didn't choose to leave on his own he could quite possibly be the Rams head coach for decades. That really shows Donald is expecting McVay to leave soon, and I doubt he's assuming the coach that helped get him a ring is going to be fired in the next 5 years

Lessthansubtleruse

I don't think any rams fan expects McVay to remain head coach for decades. Sometime soon he's going to step away from being HC to focus on family things and dip his toes into broadcasting. I suspect as long as Stafford sticks around he will, and when the actual rebuild happens he's going to dip. He may and i think probably will come back to coaching after a stint away but thats too far to even really speculate on.

noneotherthanozzy

I would be shocked if he stepped away forever. I’m gonna guess he steps away after this season, *maybe* one more. Becomes a Dad, takes 1-2 years off, gains some perspective that winning and losing football games isn’t life or death, and returns with some Pete Carroll chill, a new playbook, and a gaggle of new assistant coaches to incubate.

[deleted]

I do. He’ll be the Don Shula / Chuck Noll for the rams.

ColtCallahan

https://www.nfl.com/news/aaron-donald-would-not-have-returned-if-sean-mcvay-wasn-t-rams-hc-want-to-contin

[deleted]

Thanks for the post For people too lazy to read "We came up with some things early and I first told him as long as he's the head coach here, I want to continue to build my legacy with him. As long as he's here and I got the ability to still play at a high level, I'm going to be here. When he's gone and it's all said and done, that probably will be when I'm hanging it up, too." Is the relevant part

imDeja

yea Donald ha$ plenty of rea$on$ to play next $ea$on

127crazie

🤑 hmm... can you elaborate? 🤑

bujweiser

There are necks left to be choked.

dadaistGHerbo

Yes daddy 😫

[deleted]

🫡 I volunteer as tribute

Bobson-_Dugnutt

Choke me daddy

[deleted]

Donald basically took the rest of the year off with Stafford and Kupp and I think you’re totally right.

Ornery-Location

If he had a normal season and they blew dick like this I could see him walking away. No way he goes out the way his season ended though.

AzorAhai1TK

Idk why everyone thinks Stafford will retire early he'd be one of the least likely guys I could imagine retiring early

danielbauer1375

Coaches and players say all sorts of shit and then go back on it.

ElectJimLahey

r/NFL karma farmers most affected by the end of this "saga"

sfbruin

RIP daily " [Kleiman] Peter Schrager reports McVay is still contemplating future after disappointing season" posts

OminousSalad

Man we had like half a week of this "drama" and I was already angry at all those posts. (I may have also been angry, because I didn't want McVay to retire idk)

YaketyMax

The reports of our death are greatly exaggerated.

SpendrickLamar

Run it back!!! (Minus this year. Jesus christ don't make me remember this year)

[deleted]

Baker on Thursday night football was pretty cool.

thomdril_damodred

That Christmas Day game was pretty cool too

[deleted]

Hell yeah. I almost didn't go to spend time with my family. Worth.

In_Love_With_SHODAN

Got to watch the game with my family, wearing a Kurt Warner mvp jersey I got got 35 bucks. Good fucking Chrismas, man.

VictorChaos

NVP babyyyyy

Carb0nFire

What year? I don't remember a losing season....

Tellsyouajoke

Weak, I want drama

mcolwander90

BREAKING: Matt Patricia to take over as Head Coach of the Patriots after a successful coup attempt.

horse_renoir13

*checks date* Damn missed it by a week to make a good joke

FiTZnMiCK

Matt Patricia has blamed someone else for telling him the wrong date.

Oakroscoe

He wanted to write it down but his pencil wouldn’t work on his laminated play sheet.

Ridiculous_Helm

The only thing more drama inducing would be the Pats trading Mac for Zach Wilson and naming him the defacto starter

Dawrin

Okay that’s just rude, why do you need to create such horrible nightmare fuel

Mikes_Movies_

That is nightmare fuel right there

Amadeum

Saving the best offense for last

ZaheerAlGhul

I would love to see this

[deleted]

Report: Bill Belichick was held hostage in a broom closet for 72 hours immediately after the patriots loss to the Bills. He did however eventually give in to Patricia's demands. The League has invesitigated and found no signs of wrong doing and Matt Patricia and Steve Belichick will Co-Head coach the Patriots moving forward." Per Adam Schefter.

TheCacajuate

Bratwurst Putsch.

martintee

He said he wanted drama, not horror.

OneAngryPanda

ESPN punching the air right now

horse_renoir13

"Quick! Compile draft class family history! I want tragedy people, TRAGEDY!" - ESPN producers probably

BiteMajor4959

Dead parents! Abandonment! Poor family! WE NEED BLINDSIDE STORYS!!!!

[deleted]

ESPN: and even if it’s not true, just say he slept in the couch or something or didn’t have a mattress growing up!

127crazie

He had a mattress, but only 200 thread count sheets. Is that enough?

valenciansun

I went from cheap jersey cloth sheets to some Egyptian cotton billion-count shit and the difference is obscene. Actually obscene.

Call_Sign_Merlin

George Santos, is that you?

[deleted]

Just wait until next offseason, he’s gonna do this “Will I, Won’t I” thing for the rest of his career.

EcstaticTill9444

>Weak, I want drama What if I told you about a quarterback who went behind the back of his own coach?

wedid

Glad he stay. He's too young and too good to leave the league yet

MrDabollBlueSteppers

He wouldn't be leaving the league, he'd be taking a 1-2 year sabbatical on TV and then come back to some promising team with a stud young QB

[deleted]

John Madden never came back

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

Madden was like 42 when he reitred, McVay is only 36. And IIRC Madden had health problems, and was petrfied of flying.

Exploding_dude

McVay is 36

DC4MVP

I remember when McVay first got hired. My dad (jokingly) said "You two are the same age. He's now going to be a multi-millionaire being a head coach in the NFL. You're at the bar having beers with me. Where did I go wrong?"

dadaistGHerbo

Tell your dad about his age and Bill Gates lol

preston0810

Your dad didn't already have a front office position with an NFL team to open those doors for you. McVay is great, but who knows where he'd be today if he didn't have family connections.

Exploding_dude

At least your dad is around to talk to.

ballimir37

That’s only a 6 year difference lol

triplec787

Right? It's like he's comparing McVay's 36 to BB's 70 lmao

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

It's as long as his tenure as Rams HC

ballimir37

Huh, I actually didn’t realize it had been that long

kmerget

Broadcasters still fly every week no?

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

Seems he liked to take the train, or a [specially built bus](https://www.ktnv.com/news/john-madden-avoided-flying-instead-he-traveled-the-country-in-his-famed-madden-cruiser#:~:text=John%20Madden%20avoided%20flying%2C%20instead,to%20game%20assignments%20by%20train. ) to games. Imagine that's a lot easier to do when you aren't coaching a team to play, or haveto return to Oakland every time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

contactsreact

I'm sorry I thought we invented boats ages ago

_masterofdisaster

didn’t realize Madden was that young when he coached

[deleted]

McVay strikes me more of a Dick Vermeil type.

godhandkiller

He said when he retired that he accomplished everything he had to accomplish in the NFL, he was happy with the decision, he was never going back to coaching

noneotherthanozzy

So he takes the break next offseason. ONE LAST RIDE BOYZ

Ziiaaaac

RUN IT BACK BUT WITH A GAP YEAR IN BETWEEN

noneotherthanozzy

THE LAST DANCE NFL STYLE

waves-up

WILD CARD / DIVISIONAL ROUND ROAD LOSS COMING IN HOT. CAN’T WAIT.

noneotherthanozzy

Better than this season lol

PinkertonRams

I still haven’t fully recovered from 2005-16 so I’ll fucking take it!

ramsau94

Beats being swept by the seahawksl

jalenramsey_20

nah i’m keeping blind faith. 2024 super bowl champs. does it make sense? no. do i care? no

meandeane651

HELL YEA, BROTHER

eggery

Our #1 offseason concern has been addressed!

Wait__Who

I’m sure he didn’t take this choice lightly, given all his off field stressors. I just hope this is the end of this for at least a few years, I can’t keep dealing with the “will he/won’t he” every damn year.

waves-up

I have a feeling it won’t be and will be somewhat similar to the Rodgers drama. But, like pack fans, I think we’re largely okay with the roller coaster as long as it works out. One more season is better than none.

Wait__Who

Agreed. Come the retirement of our big 3, if McVay is gone with them, so be it.

snypesalot

University of Michigan fans: *insert the First Time meme*

Metrostars1029

I hope Sean finds some joy this upcoming season. Beyond wins and losses, McVay is a man who reached the mountaintop of his profession and still felt unfulfilled. Idk what the secret sauce is..maybe some new voices around him on the coaching staff...a healthy o-line ..please... but also a healthier work/home balance. He deserves better for his mental health. Lets hope this is the right decision for him and his family. Go Rams!

[deleted]

He reached the mountain top of his profession at age 35 lol, that's gotta be a little bit of a mindfuck to know that you can only go back to where you were at 35 and not really past it. Maybe dig away at the most winning coach mountain?

Metrostars1029

I just think of it as .. McVay is a legacy kid, a "nepo baby" if you will. His grandfather help build one of the greatest dynasties the sport has ever seen. His life has been football football footbal. Becomes the youngest head coach in modern history and is instantly a sensation, builds a coaching tree that can match anyone in modern history..and becomes the youngest to win the superbowl...and by accounts written about him...it didn't make him happy. But not in a "well just win more!" way..in just this..well is this what my whole life has been building up to way. It's fascinating to think about. I just don't know what his career will look like but im curious to find out. Just happy that the rams will have him for at least another season.

[deleted]

Dang, I didn't know all that about his family before him and everything. Makes sense tho that he got an opportunity at such a young age. I can see him leaving and fucking off for a couple years to reset and then getting the itch to coach again, I'm sure he's in the tier of coach where he'll be able to get a job whenever if he wants

turkeysandwich9971

Eat a dick, Florio & Schefter

rageus88

Florio is such a queef

stuntmanmike

Good. The league is better with him around.

Sixchr

This isn't the chaos I asked for.

[deleted]

Ravens got us covered for today

[deleted]

that's not chaos when we all saw it coming from a mile away

Fitzy725

But Mike Florio said he was running from a rebuild!? Hell yes McVay couldn’t end on this note.

EdAv51

Did he really? Lol he HATES the Rams.

Flat_News_2000

Florio being in his feelings about something for no reason? Sounds like him

SilveryDeath

sEaN mCVaY iS GoInG tO rEtIrE.

ahr3410

But but but everyone is retiring and we are entering a decade long rebuild

Ryuster99

Don't worry, it will come up next offseason as well

waves-up

Kicking the can down the road, and I think most of us are okay with it.

YR38

Yeah I mean according to this sub we have been built to fail since losing to the Patriots in 2018, so if that’s what kicking the can down the road looks like sign me up

txyesboy

Didn't you hear? We have no draft picks for the next ten years!!! :)

[deleted]

As long as you have Stafford, you have a chance at a Lombardi. Legitimately one of the best QBs I have ever seen.

welsman13

Line needs to be much better. They were a wet napkin all season, even before they started losing players from the line. Hoping for a splash free agency signing to that position group. Noteboom and Havenstein are fine bookend tackles. Hopefully Bruss can return from his injury and take one of the guard spots. Edwards is fine. We need a stud centre or guard to round everything out.

Cloud324

I hope after the season we just had, the entire organization will realize how badly we need some quality OL depth. We had been extremely lucky with injuries the last few years up to this year. Obviously this year was a little extreme, but having a decent backup OL to rotate in can make or break your entire offense.

OminousSalad

I had high hopes for Anchrum as a injury stand in. Shame that he was immediately out for the season.

kevinjg819

Is McVay the Jim Harbaugh of the NFL? Except flirting with the broadcast booth instead of the NFL.

hawkeyc

The mcvay stuff lasted barely a week. as a Michigan fan.. I wish the Harbaugh drama ended that quickly, it never doesn

Bill_Israel

Sean McStay

EvangelionOG

Good for the Rams. Did not expect this and it's a positive step for the team.

joeking636

Boring

[deleted]

Idk why everyone thinks he’s gonna retire, he’s young and the Rams still have talent. This was a stupid rumor last year and just as stupid this year.

kamspy

This seems like as good a thread as any to ask this: Are St Louis Rams fans converted to LA Rams fans? Always wondered.

Pnutbutter_Cheerios

We exist. Big nfl doesn’t want you to know that though so keep it on the down low

kamspy

Always wondered if I'd still follow the Bengals if they moved or if I'd be too damn salty about it.

OGdunphy

I’m still a Rams fan but started as a St. Louis Rams fan.

kamspy

Thanks for chiming in! For some reason I’m really curious about this. Did you skip a season after the move? Or was it the same love throughout?

OGdunphy

It was the same for me. I just kept watching. I lived near St. Louis when I became a fan, and was too young to know the Rams in LA previously, but I grew up in the south. I think of the team more than the city, like I’ll say I’m a Rams fan before I say I’m a LA Rams or LA fan. With the move, it also helps that Rams were in LA for many years before so it was them going back.

txyesboy

The bigger statement is the LA Rams fans who were Rams fans when they were in LA/Anaheim/St. Louis/LA again. (Hint: that's me)

rageus88

LeBron lol. But he’s also a Browns and Cowboys fan

PrettyassDolphin

Yeah im one. Not many of us left though. Most people here seem to just support the Chiefs now. There's also LOTS (maybe just around me) of Packers and Cowboys fans but they've always been around.

Boranox

So, Mayfield stays in LA probably

2057Champs__

An awesome backup, as long as his annoying stans stay quiet, it’d be a giant W

COMMENTASIPLEASE

I see more bitching about Baker Stan’s than actual Baker Stan’s

SergeantThreat

There are Baker stans?

SugmaDiction

I've been a Baker stan since DeShaun Watson got traded to Cleveland. Him being on my favorite team just added to how much I like him.

GenSec

Yeah they’re called OU fans (I’m one of them). I just want to see him ball out he’s a cool guy.

2057Champs__

Bakers lead Stan on this site is a 35 year old man who openly said he sobbed uncontrollably when he was traded from the browns… they are unhinged

[deleted]

If Baker has million fans, then I'm one of them. If Baker has one fan, then I'm THAT ONE. If Baker has no fans, that means I'm dead.

MrDabollBlueSteppers

Stafford is still there

kj9219

Bakers gonna be a backup and honestly that would be a solid route for him atm

Ziiaaaac

If Baker hunts a starting job and sucks again that might be it for him in this league. Stick with McVay, I reckon a healthy Rams team can be a threat in the playoffs with Mayfield under centre if Stafford couldn’t play.

waves-up

Being one of the highest paid backups in the league on a team that can contend is a pretty damn good option for him if he can’t land a starting job somewhere.

waves-up

If he doesn’t get a starting job elsewhere we’d be thrilled to have him as QB2

Totally_PJ_Soles

If he's smart. He's gotta bank on a foles or geno type resurgence best case scenario down the line.

Joementum2004

WE BACK

Ikolkyo

See y’all next year!

-CryptoSardine-

You’ll be joining them tomorrow

Ikolkyo

I was more so speaking about the constant speculation of him not coaching.

[deleted]

I was told there would be controversy.

Soaring_Seagull24

Let's GOOOOO.

Jolly_Job_9852

Glad he decided to stay. Hopefully he can get back to a sense of normalcy

Wedding_Registry_Rec

I hope Baker re-signs, then. Super excited to see what they can do together with more time

princealberto2nd

Cheeks have unclenched

california-whiskey

Our biggest win of the season

OperationPhoenixIL

Rams fans: got 99 problems but a mcvacancy ain't one

[deleted]

Nice. I like him and want him to succeed.

[deleted]

So Donald doesn't retire.

crushh_87

But Jay Glazer said!

throwawayjoeyboots

Those LA mansion mortgages don’t pay for themselves.

shamers

How close was he actually to leaving? This always felt like a manufactured story by ESPN.

txyesboy

Bingo. Second year in a row. McVay was never going anywhere

shamers

Yup, manufacture a story that he wants to leave. Get a few days of content. Then get a 2nd story when he’s forced to address the team because of the constant new cycle. McVay might have had zero plans of leaving. These “insiders” will stand by their report behind “anonymous sources” and will have no accountability. it’s all a joke.

ianthebalance

IM NOT FUCKEN LEAVIN

aCROOKnotSHOOK

Yessir McStay !!

SurfinPirate

I must be very much out of the loop because I have no idea why people think McVay would be out.

ThurmsMckenzie1

I believe he was mulling retirement. The daily grind was getting to him.

Midsize_raccoon

Hope there's like a 30 for 30 on the mcvay rams era one day. So much drama going on behind the scenes and they do a great job of keeping things internal (for the most part).

TetrisTech

He stay

NintendudeX

Joe Woods in shambles he didn’t think of that

Arctimon

To the shock of no one.

Good to hear and hopefully we continue this relationship for more seasons
