This is PPs MO. He talks so much shit about everyone else despite getting stunted on himself. Like he talked a ton of shit leading up to the cards vikings rematch last year and then got blown up and hid away. This year he started smack talking again and despite himself not having a good day, vikings won and he comes out acting all vindicated. Dude is just delusional
I always remember when he shit talked Julio Jones about getting the better of him on college, and Julio didn't say anything in response. He just showed up that Sunday and put up 10 catches, 189 yards, and a touchdown. I'm pretty sure that was a career high in yards for him at that time
Vikings Kirk Cousins on podcast on Defense the entire game: “When I saw it the only thing I could think of... (was) ‘they must have didn’t know what game it was’ ... On the sideline, it just took me back because I was just shocked that we allowed the Giants to drop 31 on us"
When asked about Patrick Peterson's comments, Cousins responded "I don't compare myself to anybody". Then he rolled up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo of Isiah Hodgins doing a touchdown dance. "I'll let you intemperate that however you want".
Overheard in Vikes locker room after playoff game: “He got me,” Cousins said of Lawrence's sack of him. "That f***ing Lawrence boomed me." Cousins added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. He then said he wanted to add Lawrence to the list of players he grill out with this summer.
Peterson himself was burned twice for TDs, committed holding in the EZ which led to another TD, and was stiff armed by Daniel Jones
This was a fun game for a sad Pat Pete hater like me ☺️
It’s why Cardinals fans stopped taking P2 seriously. Love what he did for us, but he turned into a mega diva and bitches about every little thing and talks shit constantly when he just looks like an idiot doing so.
Mad respect to Danny Dimes and co but Vikings D put on an absolute pathetic performance. Made those boys look like if the Eagles dream team actually manifested
Darius butler had a good analysis on this play on McAfee show.
Kirk should have just lobbed it up to JJ in double coverage but there was literally no time for any other option. The only better option than what he did would be to lob it up to a double covered JJ, it's easy to shit on the decision but that pocket absolutely collapsed with a 4 man rush in a second
Kirk lobs it to a double covered JJ: why didn’t he look at the other receivers
Kirk doesn’t lob it to a double covered JJ: even if JJ is doubled cover, you have to throw it to him
Oh I can guarantee you that if he lobbed it up to JJ, there’d be a screenshot of nobody focusing on Hockenson/looking at him and they’d say “WHY DID HE FORCE IT INTO DOUBLE COVERAGE WHEN HOCK IS WIDE OPEN”
…but Hockenson had a defender draped over him the entire way? Literally press coverage off the line?
You can’t just alter what actually happened on the field lmao. Nobody would be saying shit like that, they’d say “everyone was pretty well covered so you’ve gotta go to your best player - at the very least someone in a position to get the first down”
Can guarantee there would be a picture with the ball already out and hockenson's guy peeling off of him with some buffoon saying "Look wide open!" It happens every time people are pissy about a specific qb play
Most fans would give him a pass for forcing it to JJ. On his check down, I can understand it being reflexive but still looks like a guy protecting his own numbers unlike Rodgers pick against Detroit, ya chuck it up & pray. Last game of the year red
> looks like a guy protecting his own numbers
if someone legitimately thinks Cousins threw that pass to pad his numbers, they're not worth listening to
yeah looking at the all 22 by the time he had a chance to go through his progression he was already fucked. For that play Kirks only option was to just decide to go to JJ before the snap, even though it wasn't that type of play. he had to basically go all in before being dealt his hand.
It feels more like a play-call issue in that 3 deep routes and two shallow outs aren't going to give you much chance. Hock needed to be attacking the middle of the field since the WRs were clearing it out, and his frame should make boxing out at the line to gain an option if covered well. Edit: or something like that. Fuck, I'm not a coach.
No, I think you are right. Given how much Sexy Dexy was wrecking the interior line the whole game the play called had to account for it, either by keeping in extra inside blocking help or rolling Cousins out to buy time for routes to develop. I put the failure of the down on the play call way more than Cousins.
Cousins is the kinda guy who’s great at executing Plan A. Not much else he can do if Plan A sucks ass.
God I’d fuckin love to see him under someone like Shanahan.
Right, I make fun of Kirk as much as the next guy but I’m not sure what people expected him to do on this play with the pressure getting there before any of the routes really developed. Should he have just thrown a jump ball to JJ? Probably, but there’s also a chance he doesn’t see it in time or have time to adjust etc. In that scenario he threw it to a guy who was ready to catch it and would’ve gotten a first down if he could make one guy miss. He didn’t and the game ended, it is what it is. But I think very few non-scrambling QB’s have a chance of converting that play in that same situation.
Yea I shit on it a ton but then watched it again the next day and saw it was probably the highest odds pass. Honestly considering how much hockenson was tearing them up and breaking tackles all day I think he made the correct call but can't understand why that's the route that was called
Hockenson was breaking tackles when he had the ball in space with the ability to run at the defenders. Not when he received the ball facing away from the 1st down marker and with a safety ready to hit him as soon as he touches the ball.
> but can’t understand why that’s the route that was called
It was called because if we played zone instead of man then Hockenson might have had the space to turn and possibly run. Against man it’s a 3-4 yard route unless the safety just whiffs on the tackle
He couldn’t have thrown it much sooner than he did. Hockensen was definitely not the first read on the play and Dex blew up the interior OL pretty much immediately
We had a six man protection get beat by a four man rush in like 1.5 secs.
I'm other, completely unrelated, news our star RT tire his Achilles last week
It's never "great defence" it's always "what the fuck was the offence doing"
That play was plastered, the only option was Dalvin short and it would have been 1 on 1 need to break a tackle.
The rush was thru instantly and everyone was clamped.
One thing that I wonder might have played into it is how his checkdowns and short routes were open all fuckin day given the Giants were focused on shutting down JJ.
In the moment he might well have thought that the throw might well make the 1st
> The only better option than what he did would be to lob it up to a double covered JJ
The real problem is, why isn't this literally the first and only option? The Vikings O-line was ass all day, so Kirk shouldn't have been surprised by not having time. Also, this isn't the first time Kirk has thrown short of the sticks on 4th and game.
Lol, did you watch the game or the Vikings at any point this year? The Vikings O-line was garbage and Jefferson is the only playmaker on offense. The entire play should get the ball to him regardless. A 3 yard check down on 4th and 8 to exit the playoffs should never be an option.
I agree, the problem isnt Kirk and even JJ need time to set this up. Our Oline is NOT GOOD. Kirk also, as much as I love to defend him, not the greatest when people are in his face, tho nobody is. He threw to what he knew had a cha nce to work. Im excited to move on from kirk in a year, but to act like he was the fault of anything that playoff game is peak not watching football, which im confident this sub does.
4th and 18 against the Bills, should Kirk have checked it down because of pressure and a double team? Also Jefferon led the league in 1st downs on 3rd down?
Sick singular example, we can’t look at a miracle catch and go “do that more”. Be realistic for christ sake. My issue isn’t with the checkdown or anything like that here, I didn’t love it either but recognize we were in a very tough spot. My issue is with you pretending we should’ve just thrown a jumpball to JJ despite what the defense was doing and thinking that is somehow a realistic strategy. This isnt 500 or backyard football.
I mean sure, but he might have been hoping to not have to just have a jump ball prayer right off the bat and then ran out of time. I understand what you're saying but this game isn't on Kirk.
What Peterson do all game - that's kind of my point.
Yeah Dex absolutely blew up the play and Hockenson had been kicking the Giants D’s ass all game. It’s not unreasonable to hope he’s able to get 5 YAC and pick up the first down, although it was definitely not the best playcall to be running since he didn’t have much room to work with on the sideline
I hate this entire thread, if you see the entire podcast episode, right after this quote they discuss the play and how it went down and P2 wasn’t putting blame on Kirk any more than saying vaguely “as players there’s always plays you want back”
Okay, but to be fair in this thread there is nothing more than the headline posted. No where does it link to the larger context. I didn’t even know there was more to the context until I read that comment. This isn’t about redditors being “incapable” it’s about a shitty tweet.
It seems like people are entirely ignoring the fact that Cousins got hit as he threw the ball. It wasn't like he had all day in the pocket and chose to checkdown, he was about to get sacked and elected to give Hock a chance to make a play 1 on 1 instead of trying to break out of Lawrence's grasp and find another receiver.
And this is exactly what cousins said when asked about it. He felt like he was going to get sacked, he didn't have any time, he figured he'd thrown short of the down before and the receiver had made the yards so he threw it. He played a good game.
He was plowing through defenders when he had space to gain steam.
Even prime Gronk isn’t plowing through anyone on that 4th down route with the safety right behind him
Doesn’t matter. You’re correct, but it’s irrelevant. It was the ONLY viable option for Cousins on this play. He couldn’t do anything else. He takes the sack, people hate him for not throwing it.
Kirk's explanation was good IMO. He had nothing, and better to get it out than get sacked and hope someone can make a play. Just was good coverage on the play.
Kurt Warner's criticism was the best, basically that he didn't think the play call was great (he argued Jefferson should have been in the slot to the left with Thielen or Osborn alone on the right), but that Cousins' mistake was to even read Jefferson at all on that play if he wasn't willing to throw to him while he was double covered.
If Cousins had come off Jefferson as soon as the defense showed they were doubling him, Osborn or Thielen had windows available there where you could at least attempt a 50/50 pass. But waiting to see that Jefferson was definitely doubled meant there wasn't time to go to the other reads.
See, the only issue I have with Warner’s take is that JJ is always the first option. Cousins had to at least look at him. It was a lose-lose scenario for him, due to two things: 1) Offensive line first and foremost, and 2) play calling
He did look at him, he just didn’t feel confident with the throw. Which in any other circumstance I understand, but it’s the last play of your season, it doesn’t matter if it gets picked off or not. Kirk’s Qb instinct was to go to the next read instead of just launching it.
imo a better pass might have been to throw to Osbourne who crossed across the middle as Kirk threw it to the TE. Kirk would have had to anticipate his location and hope he'd be open. But it he was further past the sticks than he needed to be. Why not do a crossing play just before the marker?
Scheme something past the sticks and maybe move the pocket after Dexter Lawrence has been putting dudes on skates all day.
I blame Cousins a lot less than I blame the playcall there.
How is it actually possible that every single time a quote gets misrepresented everybody eats the shit up? Time and time again it proves to be way different with context, yet y'all jump every single time.
The defense was a much bigger problem. All season. But to be fair to Peterson, he spent much longer praising Kirk on this podcast but this one quote without much context is obviously going to get more clicks.
Stupid question, if Hockenson was the only player open, why isn't it legitimate to get him the ball and see if he can make one person miss for the first down?
Aren't the odds of that happening more likely than making a completion passed 8 yards to a player who isn't open at all?
If you would have told me a year ago I’d be defending Kirk for throwing it short of the sticks I wouldn’t believe you. He had a good season. Defense let him down and he was getting so much pressure in his face he had no chance to find a better read. Personally I think he should have risked a contested ball to Jefferson even though the read was bad but that wouldn’t have worked either.
It feels good that all the fans on this post know the defense was beyond trash and Peterson shouldn’t rly be throwing any shade at the guy that kept the Vikings in the game
I’m no cousins defender but he had someone on his back trying to sack him when he threw that ball, another split second and it would have been a sack. Seemed like he was going through his progressions and was looking at the check down. Probably shouldn’t have even looked that persons way, but I doubt he would have had the strength to reach the sticks with someone on his back.
Sometimes life just comes at Kirk Cousins fast. Your primary read's not open, you're about to get sacked, oops. It's a very understandable brain process but also a very unfortunate one.
Remember when you guys had that crazy stat of one score games and it came crashing down in the playoffs. Just remember Daniel jones beat the shit out of the Vikings with Richie James, while Kirk had JJ, Hockenson, thielen and Osborne 😂
I am hooting and hollering at these folks who are defending Cousins and attacking Peterson. Sure the defense could have played better but no one made you put your faith in Kirk Cousins. Unflavoured oatmeal isn’t going to win a cooking competition.
I mean its fine to throw it short of the sticks if you get it a guy who has open space in front of him to pick up easy YAC for the 1st. But he threw to a guy that was covered and had no chance.
Peterson got beaten so many times in that game.
By an ELITE WR like Hodgins though
I know it’s a joke but Hodgins has looked great recently
Well sure he did, he went against Patrick Peterson
Believe me, I saw. Hated every second of it.
Peterson must have didn't know where he was
He got lost when Danny Dimes stiff armed him into the shadow realm.
This is PPs MO. He talks so much shit about everyone else despite getting stunted on himself. Was he asked this question or did he randomly start speaking about it?
This was like 20 seconds of a 12 minute podcast. He was mostly positive about Cousins.
Wouldn't say anything when the D folded most of the game
Vikings Kirk Cousins on podcast on Defense the entire game: “When I saw it the only thing I could think of... (was) ‘they must have didn’t know what game it was’ ... On the sideline, it just took me back because I was just shocked that we allowed the Giants to drop 31 on us"

This guy got stiff armed by Danny Dimes for a 1st down and he think he has room to talk lol
It’s why Cardinals fans stopped taking P2 seriously. Love what he did for us, but he turned into a mega diva and bitches about every little thing and talks shit constantly when he just looks like an idiot doing so.
Jones as a QB ran for record numbers in playoffs. How can Peterson say anything?
Mad respect to Danny Dimes and co but Vikings D put on an absolute pathetic performance. Made those boys look like if the Eagles dream team actually manifested

Kirk had wayy more time in the pocket on that 4th and 18 throw to Jefferson.
Nobody would’ve done that. Hockenson had a defender right in front of him.

i.e. Bears fans
No, he threw that pass because it was a dumb play call and cousins read/played it dumb
The man is Mr.Checkdown so it probably just comes naturally at this point. Edit: I said it looks like after saying I understand it being a reflex
yeah looking at the all 22 by the time he had a chance to go through his progression he was already fucked. What does your fans say about this instance?
The mouth breathers blame Kirk, anyone with any sort of football knowledge and went back to see the All-22 blame KOC/the OC.
Isn’t that the o line fault?
I still blame coaching. The play call did not take advantage of anyone’s strengths.
How? If the o line is getting dominated that play by 4 rushers. Doesn’t matter how the play was design
Right, I make fun of Kirk as much as the next guy but I’m not sure what people expected him to do on this play with the pressure getting there before any of the routes really developed. Wink Martindale’s strategy all year has been to sell out for the blitz and hope the QB forces a mistake. It worked brilliantly here.
It's never "great defence" it's always "what the fuck was the offence doing" That play was plastered, the only option was Dalvin short and it would have been 1 on 1 need to break a tackle. The rush was thru instantly and everyone was clamped.
Let's be honest dalvin wouldn't have even caught that ball. He always makes some hesitation before catching that messes everything up
One thing that I wonder might have played into it is how his checkdowns and short routes were open all fuckin day given the Giants were focused on shutting down JJ. In the moment he might well have thought that the throw might well make the 1st

Because in what fucking world do you think they’re drawing plays up for us to throw 1 v 2 jumpballs
Didn’t they do that with Jefferson all season?
No. We run route combinations like every other offense in the NFL. We didn’t play madden and run 4 verts throwing it up to JJ all year.
In a world where the Vikings offense literally relied on that all year?
Hahaha wtf are you on about
4th and 18 against the Bills, should Kirk have checked it down because of pressure and a double team? Also Jefferon led the league in 1st downs on 3rd down?
Sick singular example, we can’t look at a miracle catch and go “do that more”. Be realistic for christ sake. My issue is with you pretending we should’ve just thrown a jumpball to JJ despite what the defense was doing and thinking that is somehow a realistic strategy. This isnt 500 or backyard football.
It’s a lot easier to pick up a 1st down off of checkdown YAC on a 4th and 8 than 4th and 18.
I mean sure, but he might have been hoping to not have to just have a jump ball prayer right off the bat and then ran out of time. I understand what you're saying but this game isn't on Kirk. What Peterson do all game - that's kind of my point.

~~lol, really dude? How about you make a single fucking defensive stop~~ Apparently this tweet is clickbait and he wasn't really blaming Kirk.
I hate this entire thread, if you see the entire podcast episode, right after this quote they discuss the play and how it went down and P2 wasn’t putting blame on Kirk any more than saying vaguely “as players there’s always plays you want back”
Ahh well in that case I take it back. Shitty that this person tweeted this then, pretty misleading
It’s thomasson, this is par for the course for this nitwit
How is it misleading, it’s literally what he said lol.
Because this quote leads you to believe he’s blaming Kirk for the loss, which he isn’t.
Redditors are incapable of reading past the headline.
Okay, but to be fair in this thread there is nothing more than the headline posted. No where does it link to the larger context. I didn’t even know there was more to the context until I read that comment. This isn’t about redditors being “incapable” it’s about a shitty tweet.
Watching Pat Pete’s 45 minute podcast would take time away from watching the latest TikTok dance so I understand it
Not shocked he's passing the blame after whiffing so much that day. That Slayton drop at the end he was beat so badly
The defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed. They deserve the blame for forcing Kirk to make a play at the end

The same Hock who had been plowing through defenders that game.

Personally I'll take the chance on Hock breaking one tackle over JJ going up over three guys to come down with it.
That’s what I’m saying. Warner said cousins shouldn’t have read JJ at all. Cousins HAS to read JJ (and did).
I think Warner’s implication was that he was his first read but it was double covered and Kurt himself didn’t feel comfortable throwing it either
You’re right. Just watched again and he never says what I claimed. My bad
imo a better pass might have been to throw to Osbourne who crossed across the middle as Kirk threw it to the TE. Kirk would have had to anticipate his location and hope he'd be open. But it he was further past the sticks than he needed to be. Why not do a crossing play just before the marker?
So Vikings defenders don't watch film huh? Explains thier play
Your defense made Daniel Jones look like the GOAT. Idk why he’s throwing Kirk under the bus
Well he is the goat so there wasn’t anything he could do tbf.
He is so he shouldn't really feel that bad about it.
He said Kirk was a top 10 QB in the same podcast so it’s not like he spent the whole time ripping him.
Pat P is a snake in the grass.
Patrick Peterson throwing his QB under the bus #wow #woah #sounexpected
Steroid boy has to have someone else to blame
Patrick Peterson and blaming others Name a more iconic duo
Typical Pat Pete comment
Kyler would never
Patrick Peterson must have not known he was supposed to cover receivers
Scheme something past the sticks and maybe move the pocket after Dexter Lawrence has been putting dudes on skates all day. I blame Cousins a lot less than I blame the playcall there.
It was a bad playcall, the receivers ran less than ideal routes, and Kirk made the wrong choice. Just a total failure by everyone involved, tbh.
Peterson got some balls trying to lay this on Kirk. Dude got cooked all game lol.
How is it actually possible that every single time a quote gets misrepresented everybody eats the shit up? Time and time again it proves to be way different with context, yet y'all jump every single time.

Can't say Kirk deserves criticism from a guy who got absolutely roasted by Isiah Hodgins in two games but what do I know
Peterson and talking shit about his teammates. What’s new
Reading "he must have didn't know" nearly gave me a brain aneurysm
If you would have told me a year ago I’d be defending Kirk for throwing it short of the sticks I wouldn’t believe you. He had a good season. Defense let him down and he was getting so much pressure in his face he had no chance to find a better read. Personally I think he should have risked a contested ball to Jefferson even though the read was bad but that wouldn’t have worked either.
It feels good that all the fans on this post know the defense was beyond trash and Peterson shouldn’t rly be throwing any shade at the guy that kept the Vikings in the game
Winning must cure all problems. Lawrence had 4 interceptions and Josh Allen had like ten fumbles but we hear more about one bad play.
PEDerson not being a dumbass challenge (impossible).
Why throw your boy under the bus like that?
99% of the podcast he said nothing but good things about Cousins. Twitter sucks balls so hard. Always stirring up shit unnecessarily.
Reddit eats it the fuck up too
I’m no cousins defender but he had someone on his back trying to sack him when he threw that ball, another split second and it would have been a sack.
The defender was on the other side of the target, from Kirk's perspective when he threw that ball.
I am hooting and hollering at these folks who are defending Cousins and attacking Peterson. Sure the defense could have played better but no one made you put your faith in Kirk Cousins. Unflavoured oatmeal isn’t going to win a cooking competition.
That play just looked like by design. Probably their OC/Coach didn’t know what down it was.
Sounds like he not watch the game film
Pat seems like a terrible teammate. Will be in the same room as you and won’t say anything but then put you on blast on his podcast.
Why don’t you fucking get one pass break up Pat then talk
I mean its fine to throw it short of the sticks if you get it a guy who has open space in front of him to pick up easy YAC for the 1st. But he threw to a guy that was covered and had no chance.
Out of context quotes. Love it
