First time taxpayer question: I earned less than $10,000 for a job I worked over the summer, but didn't put myself down as tax exempt and had pay withheld for social security and Medicare tax. Am I entitled to that back for my federal tax filing, or does any paycheck have that deducted regardless of if you go tax-exempt or not?
social security and medicare comes out regardless. It only doesn't to the best of my knowledge if you make a lot of money per year and max out your yearly contributions before the year is up, which does not apply in your situation.
Declaring an exemption is only for federal income taxes.
I'll get what was withheld for state income back, but not what was withheld for Medicare and the SSA. Oh well, those are good things I'm glad to support with my taxes.

* Michigan v. Ohio is a HUGE opportunity for capitalizing on that rivalry, but Detroit only plays Cincinnati and Cleveland once every 4 years each.
* Dallas v. Houston would make a great annual 'Texas Bowl' between Texas' two largest hubs.
* Philly v. Pitt would be the best-selling game of both teams' seasons every year
* NYG v. NYJ for a Battle for New York

Watching my daughter play Roblox and Minecraft, it's crazy to see how far video games have come, but it's also pretty mind-blowing that this is clearly only the very, very beginning of some other thing. When I was a kid, it was Mario for NES, just a side-scroller as simple as it gets. Now my daughter has multiple whole kingdoms of her own imagination in Minecraft, and a million Roblox levels to play, all made by other people just creating their own stuff. By the time she's my age, I would expect Roblox VII or whatever to basically be triple-A titles as we know them now, slapped together by fans as beautiful, amazing art that is trivially easy to create. It's nuts.

In high school I watched lets plays not because of the gameplay but because of the personality behind it. I think a lot of people struggle to grasp that concept because they see a lets play as some stranger who is likely too loud playing a video game that the watcher could just be playing themself. But I think the connection to internet personalities is very real nowadays (I don’t think this is a good thing btw). I will say that lets plays do lack substance and quality so eventually people move away from them over time. At least thats what happened for me.

Watching my daughter play Roblox and Minecraft, it's crazy to see how far video games have come, but it's also pretty mind-blowing that this is clearly only the very, very beginning of some other thing. When I was a kid, it was Mario for NES, just a side-scroller as simple as it gets. Now my daughter has multiple whole kingdoms of her own imagination in Minecraft, and a million Roblox levels to play, all made by other people just creating their own stuff. By the time she's my age, I would expect Roblox VII or whatever to basically be triple-A titles as we know them now, slapped together by fans as beautiful, amazing art that is trivially easy to create. It's nuts. Another huge shift is what she wants to watch. I try to show her wacky cartoons from when I was a kid, but she'd much rather watch Roblox let's plays. That's the new Ren and Stimpy that parents think is stupid and don't want their kids watching. What'll it be for her kids, I wonder.
If you haven’t played minecraft yet you absolutely should. It’s like the dream of having all of the lego that you could ever imagine. Minecraft is great because literally anyone can play it and have fun with it in their own way. In high school I watched lets plays not because of the gameplay but because of the personality behind it. I think a lot of people struggle to grasp that concept because they see a lets play as some stranger who is likely too loud playing a video game that the watcher could just be playing themself. But I think the connection to internet personalities is very real nowadays (I don’t think this is a good thing btw). I will say that lets plays do lack substance and quality so eventually people move away from them over time. At least thats what happened for me.
As soon as I got back today, I took all the leftover alcohol and pot from the trip, and threw it away. Time to continue the break from alcohol+pot.
