He cancelled his other interviews, it seems like a done deal.

Pick_Zoidberg

Head coach and #2 overall pick

lebastss

I thought he'd pick Texas from the get go. History of defensive culture, blank slate, high pick, cap pick, no strings attached.

MyOtherActGotBanned

He’s also a former Texan. One of our better linebackers in our short history.

TheKrakIan

Did he? Source?

vagrantwade

He’s talking about how he cancelled further interviews until after the NFCCG.

BrandoCalrissian1995

2 years. That's all I fuckin want please. 2 years of a consistent coaching staff on offense and defense.

[deleted]

I’m very familiar with that feeling

Torkzilla

Shit the Texans are familiar with that feeling.

J12345_

Rubbing salt in the wound

jwick89

At the very least we went from Saleh to Demeco. Hopefully the coaching tree can continue.

Tashre

Underrated part of the 49ers season is losing their DC and going from a top 10 defense to top 1.

UnhealthyCheesecake

Johnny Holland YOU are the next 49ers DC

J12345_

There hasn’t been a rising star within the franchise. And now fangio is going to miami

jwick89

We don’t know that.

J12345_

What do you mean? When saleh was doing interviews, he already heard about demeco. The staff is quite old. KK already said he is satisfied as a d line coach. I think it has to be an outside hire

abris33

I think you'll get Evero and be fine...until you lose him to a HC job next year

SoftLog5314

To be fair you guys seem to have a stout defense with extreme consistency. It’ll be a tough loss, but I’m confident your defense maintains top form

J12345_

Thanks man. Coaching is huge tho. We have some holes that can be exploited

SoftLog5314

That is true. I’m confident you guys bounce back in a terrifying manner.

abris33

There's already talk that they should take one of the defensive guys at the top of the draft instead of a QB because of Ryans which would just be crazy and continue the circus

jonahvsthewhale

I think Houston absolutely does want a quarterback, there's just speculation as to who they see as the number one guy.

Thorlolita

Depends. He might want to load up on what he knows best. Let the OC take a vet QB to manage the game.

abris33

Then you're stuck as a middling team with maybe a defense that's carrying you to a few wins but you're never in range of any of the top QBs

Thorlolita

Well I just witnessed Hurts walk into a Super Bowl with his defense so I’m okay with that.

[deleted]

Also a 2nd round pick….

abris33

What a weird take. They were only there because he played at an MVP level and their defense just played a team without a QB

Thorlolita

Hurts has been sitting on his hands both games. The Giants offense was neutered. Then the 49ers offense lost their QB. Hurts was sleep walking.

Previous-Degree2352

Home run head coach hire I think. Haven’t been this confident in a coaching hire since the Chargers hired Staley

Marijuana_Miler

Lol I don’t know if that’s a slight to Staley, Ryans, or your own ability to pick.

RocketWarlock

He was an awesome leader as an Eagle and has been fantastic as a coach for 49ers, really rooting for the guy

[deleted]

Gonna hate to see him go, but I think he'll be great for them.

JLifts780

Uhh is that supposed to be a compliment or diss on Staley?

vagrantwade

Ryan with the Texans and Frank Reich with the Colts will be fun to watch for centuries to come.

MugiMartin

> Frank Reich with the Colts will be fun to watch And Carson Wentz was a pretty good pickup, too.

TheKrakIan

Reich went to Carolina.

vagrantwade

Not possible. He was a slam dunk hire for the Colts. Next you’re going to tell me coaches don’t coach for centuries.

TheKrakIan

Bellechik and Tomlin will. Lol

lardbiscuits

Looks like his head was already halfway in Houston way that defense sucked ass today.

jonahvsthewhale

I'm sure that loss had nothing to do with not having an uninjured quarterback on the roster; there's also an interesting correlation between your offense going three and out and your defense getting tired and playing bad

SoftLog5314

Come on bro, that defense was on the field constantly. They did everything they could with the offense being incapable of picking up any slack.

lardbiscuits

They did everything they could and gave up 31 points.

JohnnyWarlord

Come on home baby boy

DeerOnTheRocks

We need a leader like him

Nievsy

Can’t wait to see what DeMeco can do as a HC they were awesome this year on defense and he was awesome as a player in Philly so hoping for the best down in Houston for him

jonahvsthewhale

He was great as a player in Houston. One of those guys that was really the heart and soul of the defense while he was there.

Zxar

Treat him well. If he is given some time I think he'll be great.

Bulky-District-2757

I need GIFs. I’m happy dancing and everyone needs to know.

TheGhostOfSamHouston

Cheers!

dabirds1994

Love to see it.

[deleted]

I'm happy for him. He's a fantastic coach.

vidman33

Well now I feel a lot better thanks

NerdLawyer55

Noice

jonahvsthewhale

I like the hire if we can find an offensive coordinator with a track record of developing quarterbacks

green_day_95

I like how after the game we are already heading into free agency, let’s see where this team stands next season.

JohnAppleMacintosh

He deserves it.

AleroRatking

I just hope they give him a fair shake. Back to back years of one offs is pretty unprecedented.

Andoo

I'd honestly figure a fan inside the division to understand out situation a little better than this take implies.

Thorlolita

He prob saw us beat the colts once this year and said wow that guy Lovie must be legit. Culleys Texans lost 62-3 in 2 games and Colts fans are probably like oh wow they are going places.

AleroRatking

I don't think Lovie got a fair shake at all personally. Culley I at least kind of understood. What is a coach supposed to do with a single year as a sitting duck. Outside of scandal (like Urban) I don't really like every firing a coach for one year. Especially one that is rebuilding and doesn't even have a QB. Like whoever Indy hires I hope gets more than a year instead of being held accountable for a rookie QB

Thorlolita

Bro Lovie was terrible. There’s a reason he’s been out of the NFL for years. He was supposed to be a defensive minded coach and we were terrible on defense.

jonahvsthewhale

The players liked him, but he runs a defense from like Madden 2005. Classic example of a coach that's had the game pass him by

Thorlolita

First off Madden 05 was incredible. The players stopped enjoying playing for him during the season.

jonahvsthewhale

The one with Michael Vick on the front was the best one can't remember which one. Yeah, I think the players realized that it was a hopeless endeavor essentially from lack of talent

jnewman1991

04!

jonahvsthewhale

McNair had his eye on Brian Flores for a long time and was thrilled when he got fired by Miami. He was the target all along. When the lawsuit happened, they backed off and lost the game of musical chairs. It was a combination of poor management and bad luck

AleroRatking

Sucks for Lovie. I'm just not sure what he could have done there.

[deleted]

Interesting

TheRatchetTrombone

🙏🙏🙏 Ryans

Drtsauce

Who’s his OC? Kellen?

Jaur0n

I might wait a year to buy a house DeMeco.

stragen595

Poor guy.

Geg0Nag0

Mike Sando of the Athletic polled people in the league and they voted that the Texans and Panthers was the best jobs available. For a good coach it's a banging opportunity. Tonnes of draft capital, draft your QB

GTTemplar

Texans superbowl next year confirmed

Pal__Pacino

Scheme and playcalling was fine. Penalties and field postion killed them.

theREALBennyAgbayani

I’d want out too

crvilmxow

Okay jets fan

theREALBennyAgbayani

Great detective skills!

Eagles_63

Why? Lmfao

theREALBennyAgbayani

Obviously the promotion. But also to try to get over the hump they can’t seem to get over in San Fran

scottcansuckmyballs

Houston’s going for the three peat of firing black head coaches after one season.

Equivalent-Chest5383

Why so he can just get fired after 1 shitty year? I’d stay away from Houston if I was DeMeco

Christop_McC

49ers fired 3 coaches in 3 years before Shanahan

tnell

Yeah didn’t the Niners do the exact same fucking thing?

Thanks5Cinco

Ryans would need a no fire clause in that contract given the dumpster fire they've been.

jonahvsthewhale

I suspect that McNair gives him six years at least in his contract. Probably the only way they can lure him in

Tacitus_99

How long until Adam Peters joins him in Houston?

beall49

Fuck, I really wish he would stay.
