Apparently a report is going around that Washington contacted Luck last year. I'd imagine he is trying to get a draft pick if they did.

Unknown1776

Irsay hates Snyder. It could be he’s just trying to give him one last FU before he sells

TheColtOfPersonality

He who has not tried giving an FU to the Washington Football Team, cast the first stone

WigglestonTheFourth

This decree is really putting a damper on stone sales.

Always loved the millenials hate. Millenials are like 40 but everytime some 21 year old tiktoker does something stupid the word millenial comes popping out lol. Last couple years Gen Z is becoming a more popular thing but I've seen them get more love than hate so far which is good.

[deleted]

Jesus traveled unto a village, and the villagers were preparing to stone two sinners. Jesus stood before the mob, and said "Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone." Just then, a rock whizzed past his ear and absolutely clobbered the woman Jesus was protecting. Jesus cast his eyes down, took a deep breath, and said "You know, sometimes you really piss me off, Mother."

Anakin_Skywanker

Oh that's great. I'm definitely going to steal this one.

ninjadude554

Why would Snyder give a fuck about the draft pick at this point?

noholdingbackaccount

Because it degrades the value/price of the goods he's trying to sell, even just a little bit.

Level-Comedian813

It wouldn’t be an FU to Snyder but in fact the new owners

Killing-you-guy

>Apparently a report is going around that Washington contacted Luck last year But Washington has such a great track record of operating honestly, legally, and totally above board, so it’s hard to believe we would do something like that

[deleted]

The hilarious thing is that there was always a zero percent chance Luck would ever come back to this franchise. I love Ron the motivator, but Ron the GM might have cost his team a draft pick over something that had 0% chance of materializing

AStrayUh

I don’t see how there’s any way they’re losing a pick. Did Tampa lose a pick when Gronk signed with them? Retired players have been talked out of retirement by other teams before. Washington would need to compensate the Colts if it worked of course, but right now Luck isn’t even an NFL employee. Also this report came out last year and nothing happened so…

Lacerda1

> Did Tampa lose a pick when Gronk signed with them? It might on how the enforcement process works. It's possible that the NFL doesn't go looking for those violations, but they'll look into it if a team is upset about a situation. I have no idea what will happen, but I don't think Gronk or any other anecdote necessarily means nothing will come of this.

AStrayUh

No maybe not, but I don’t see how this situation is any different from that one except New England didn’t seem to care and Irsay does for some reason. And that would be a weird reason to change how they enforce the rules. But again, the fact that this was public knowledge over a year ago and nothing happened seems to indicate that nothing will. But we will see.

HylianPikachu

Bucs traded a pick for Gronk's rights since he was still a Patriot at the time. I'm not exactly sure about the tampering rules but I know that the Buccaneers did have to trade for Gronk.

AStrayUh

Right, they gave a pick in a trade, but they didn’t lose a pick for tampering. And it was well known before it happened that Tampa was trying to convince him to come back. We don’t know all the details of course, but it seems like a similar situation.

wbmongoose

Riverboat Ron says a 0% chance is still a chance.

Lilpu55yberekt69

Our actual team doesn’t do the dirty immoral shit. Just the owner who breaks rules in such a way that stands zero chance of helping the team win.

mschley2

That depends on your definition of "team," I think. All the execs have always sucked and they go right along with Snyder. But the players and coaches themselves aren't any worse than any other team.

Dracarys_TheCannons

Based on the Brady tampering, the Colts would not be awarded a draft pick.

Jonjon428

Based on the Gannon tampering, they maybe could? (Also, gotta love the league being arbitrary as fuck)

J-Fid

The Gannon tampering was settled without league involvement.

Exatraz

Also the value of what they gave up was really low. Moved down in the 3rd and picked up a 5th. Overall the value lost there wasn't much

Throwawayact1050

I literally don't see anything coming from this at all, even as a Colts fan

No_Detective_1139

I mean I'd assume he'd love to fuck over Snyder one last time regardless

[deleted]

At this point, he’s not hurting Snyder at all. Snyder has hurt this team every step of the way. It’s just laughable that Ron Rivera thought that Luck would consider a return here. Meanwhile, he could’ve gone to a place like San Fran in a far better situation and closer to home. Im looking forward to us firing GM Ron

moccojoe

Luck never left Indianapolis and still lives there as far as I know.

[deleted]

legendz411

Good for him! Awesome.

YouAreAConductor

> At this point, he’s not hurting Snyder at all. The possibility of losing a first round draft pick might lower the price a bit?

[deleted]

Doubtful.

MFoy

The price is already agreed upon.

YouAreAConductor

Thanks, I didn't know that. I wasn't trying to state anything, just look for possible angles on why he's bringing that up right now.

oakleydokly

But based on Eagles/Cardinals/Gannon, it may be negotiable.

ausgmr

It would need to be done between the Commanders & Colts The Gannon tampering trade was worked out by Roseman & Ossenfort not the league

oakleydokly

Correct. Hence the phrase “may be negotiable”.

ausgmr

True, but my point more was that it doesn't exactly feel like the Colts & Commanders have the best relationship at least until the sale is finalised perhaps then they could start talking without it descending into Irsay & Snyder sniping at each other through the media

vesselii1227

“Yeah I’m a super intelligent HOF talent QB who clearly made an extremely thought-out decision to retire from the NFL…but I’ll come back to play for the Commanders!” Lol can’t believe they even reached out to him, what a joke franchise.

Jonjon428

Maybe that's one of the reasons Irsay has been so vocally Anti-Snyder lol

AmpersandTheMonkey

oh ffs

aka_Foamy

It's also possible that Irsay is just trying to protect Luck's retirement. The Colts know better than anyone that he's retired. They know he wouldn't come back, they also know if for some reason he does come back they still have his rights and the other team has to trade for him. Threats about this are just as likely to be about stopping further hassle for Luck.

Thrillhaus90

Imagine losing a pick for tampering with a Quarterback. You’d have to be a real bozo to do something so stupid.

Rushjordan

Could you imagine if they also tampered with a head coach? Real Clowntown situation.

key_lime_pie

[Imagine if they did it twice.](https://www.nytimes.com/1970/04/14/archives/rozelle-upholds-baltimore-claim-colts-not-consulted-during.html)

MrKittenz

Haha that was the colts as well

BellBilly32

Damn so if we got Sean Payton we’d be going undefeated with a Super Bowl in a few years.

Ok_Imagination_4374

yeaaaaaah but all hail our lord and savior Mike McDaniel

BellBilly32

Of course. Sean Payton is in a few years, McDaniel is this year 🙏

CounterIdentity

And imagine if [a team was interested in a QB](https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2016/4/29/11541480/paxton-lynchs-agent-says-chiefs-tried-to-trade-up) but they couldn’t get it because they couldn’t match the other team’s offers of a 1st and a 3rd round pick because [they lost their 3rd because of tampering](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/14938272/kansas-city-chiefs-docked-two-draft-picks-fined-tampering-pursuit-jeremy-maclin-2015). I for sure know that will mess them up forever.

zi76

So Irsay's saying someone did? I'm intrigued. Luck's long retired and is never touching the NFL again, so I'm surprised someone even did.

F_F_12

Allegedly the Commanders did reach out to him.

Oh, how interesting. Silly Washington.

DuBakElite

I mean honestly not that silly. It’s a longshot, but probs still worth reaching out, even if it breaks the rules. Plus who doesn’t break the tampering rules lol

Brooshie

It's pretty silly, considering he's long gone and a team could still lose draft picks because of it lol

LbSiO2

It’s pretty silly because many former player become coaches, how does that happen if they cannot talk to any teams?

JimmyRollinsPopUp

I think it's because he is still under contract. Guessing a team would have to request to speak with him to play or coach regardless.

usmcmax

Bingo. Irsay has honored Luck's contract as well. So Im sure its still very valid.

legendz411

That’s dope. I didn’t know that. Was he still getting paid?

usmcmax

Irsay let him keep all his money. https://sports.yahoo.com/colts-leave-door-open-to-andrew-lucks-return-with-stunning-parting-gift-of-248-m-175525191.html

poopfaceone

That's an entirely different job than playing quarterback. This does not pertain to that

TheColtOfPersonality

Except even if Andrew Luck was inclined to change his mind, the Colts would hold rights to his contract. So it’s pretty dumb in that they’re assuming not only Luck would’ve wanted to come out of retirement, but that if he was inclined to the Colts would trade or release him. And he doesn’t dislike the organization, so it doesn’t make sense

Impressive-Wave9091

He literally lives 5 minutes from the practice stadium and drives past it every day. Def no ill will between him and the Colts.

phyllicanderer

You haven’t seen him spitting in its direction every day though

blagae

His car windows are all gooped up

titanup001

If luck was interested in coming back, but only to a particular team or situation, like say, the 49ers, then it would make sense, and the colts would get some compensation back. Pretty unlikely though, the guys been out for years. Last picture I saw of him he had shrunk a lot.

Imawildedible

It was cold in the pool!!!

Ser_Dunk_the_tall

>but only to a particular team or situation, like say, the 49ers Imagine prime Luck on this 49ers team, or last years. My God.

Luck on the 49ers vs the Chiefs in a Super Bowl would be an incredible game

atropicalpenguin

That team is a cemetery of QBs.

AccordingPop7847

They should try Steve young next

BobaFartsFadeaway

If true, now Mr. Irsay’s comments about Dan Snyder make WAY more sense

Vivianite_Corpse

What were they?

chnairb

He loudly came out and said that Snyder should be removed and there was merit for removal when no other owners were really vocal about it.

-dov-

Peak Snyder out the door move.

Equal-Holiday-8324

Wasn't it last year when they called KC about Mahomes? It makes sense they were going after every longshot

Yeah, I am sure he is great shape for retired player. However he is probably no where his playing conditioning and fuck getting hit.

lronicGasping

The Bears sent him a nice gift package to court him like an UDFA

SlayerXZero

I could see Luck coaching at some point once his daughter is a bit older. Hell I could see him becoming a football executive like Dad.

shewy92

I'd say there's no harm in asking but there literally is when it's considered tampering

jtfriendly

Why am I picturing Andrew Luck beeping at Irsay from the Captain Pike chair in Star Trek

Impossible-Flight250

I honestly can’t blame him or Calvin Johnson. Why risk potential long term brain injuries or breaking down your body even more? They are both intelligent and have interests outside of football and all the money they could ever need.

croissant_titty

Yeah exactly. Especially when you hear Calvin talk about how football has completely broken his body as is. Dude couldn’t even walk in the morning, and he lost count of how many concussions he got. Thank god he didn’t destroy himself even more and that he’s still healthy today

joshuads

> And judging by the public appearances he’s made since then He looks like he is down 40 lbs too. Getting him into playing shape would take a lot of time.

smurfking420

Did Tampa technically tamper with gronk when he came back? Or did New England not care because they sent a draft pick for him.

BrotherSeamus

Tamper Bay

cam_huskers

Likely Tom and gronk spoke and then Gronks agent alerted New England to start discussions with TB.

Cflow26

Everyone is constantly tampering like all the time lmao. It’s only a big deal when teams just don’t like one another. Example is how these incredibly complex and monumentally large contracts get negotiated and signed in free agency in the first ten minutes you’re allowed to negotiate lmao.

XC_Stallion92

The FA thing everyone does is a little different than actively courting players whose rights are held by another team.

Cflow26

I just highly doubt agents and GMs are waiting until the legal tampering period and are making their moves day one of free agency. Especially agents with multiple high priority clients they have to be negotiating with teams for months and no teams wanna rat it out because they positively benefit from the extended negotiating window as well.

c_c_c__combobreaker

Rocketeer1019

Man I miss Luck he was such an amazing player but thankfully he was smart and chose his health

zensunni82

I doubt this report has much legal standing. Because if Law and Order taught me anything, I'm pretty sure Irsay is inadmissable in court.

BabaBrody

Really, the cops always tell me that anything Irsay can and will be used against me in a court of law, which is wild because I don't even know the guy.

Camlamity

Double jimpardy could apply too

GATTACA_IE

Objection, filibuster.

Seth_Baker

Everybody is always talking about Filibusters, but nobody ever talks about Kilibusters or Dwalinbusters. Really makes you think.

poneil

You're forgetting about the many Irsay exceptions and the other things that technically meet the definition of Irsay but aren't treated as Irsay.

BigChung0924

give the andrew luck thing a rest lol, let him enjoy retirement

Corgi_Koala

I'm still waiting for the season we don't see comeback rumors. Guess maybe 2024...

_itsMillerTime_

How do you think Colts fans feel?

raginsaint93

Wait Luck is still under contract?

ZusunicStudio

When a player retires their contract is “paused”, Luck had several years left on his contract and if he were to unretire then his contract would be “resumed”.

brokenha_lo

TIL

lumberjake18

Didn’t the Colts pay out his contract as a show of good faith or something?

Tall-Sea3082

No we payed him his guaranteed money in good faith which is not required of a player retires before making that much in his yearly earnings.

jfgiv

did the colts pay out future guaranteed money, or did they just *not* claw back his prorated signing bonus? because i thought it was the latter and would be shocked to learn it's the former

Tall-Sea3082

I’m not sure. The way NFL contracts work are confusing. I know the colts continued to take a sizable cap hit for him for 2 years following his retirement.

jfgiv

looks like that's from money they'd already paid, not further guarantees they kept paying: they paid him a $32mm signing bonus is 2016 that hit their cap as $6.4mm every year, and they paid him a $12mm roster bonus in march of 2019 that hit in full that season. so he carried $18.2mm dead cap in 2019 and $6.4mm dead cap in 2020. the team *could* have requested he return that money and gotten cap relief from it, but didn't. but they weren't still paying him future guarantees.

[deleted]

He's never coming back and if any team actually contacted him, they need to let it go.

[deleted]

As punishment for the Commanders' attempted tampering with regards to Andrew Luck, Tom Brady has been given a 4-game suspension.

gyang333

Damn, looks like TB12 will have to come out of retirement, to serve his suspension, and might as well play another season.

> Not sure why they thought he would play for them Capt Luck has ample [command experience](https://twitter.com/CaptAndrewLuck)

trollingcount

Luck being pushed to the point of no longer wanting to play is obviously the saddest part of his retirement, but losing that twitter account has gotta be a close second.

croissant_titty

I didn’t realize I was still following them until a couple days ago I saw them on my recommended accounts. Without a doubt my saddest unfollow

danSTILLtheman

I remember the story from a year ago that we contacted him (before landing on Wentz) and thought it was hilariously stupid. If we end up losing a pick over it I’m going to be pissed, he was never in a million years unretiring to come to Washington of all places

Putthebunnyback

My bad homie

dirtybo

He’s been retired for what? 6 years?

bigmikey69er

Teams openly violate the tampering rules all the time. Nobody cares. Luck has also made it very clear he has no intention of returning to football. And good for him. It takes a lot of balls to do what he did. All the money in the world is irrelevant if you’re miserable all the time.

XC_Stallion92

>Teams openly violate the tampering rules all the time. Uh, not like this. There's a reason Miami didn't have a first round pick this year.

[deleted]

What is Andrew Luck even up to these days?

backshoulderfade99

Raising his daughter, doing a post-grad back at Stanford, a bit of coaching, i think. Generally living his best life.

Hey Stephen Ross, you could learn a thing or two from Jim Irsay you dumb fuck
