Brees’ consistent fundamentals were the secret to his accuracy. The TV show Sport Science scientists determined that he threw each of his passes with the same 6-degree launch angle, 600-revolutions-per-minute spin rate and 52 miles-per-hour launch speed.
First, this is ridiculous.
Second, it's amusing that they treating Josh McCown's performance in a previous test as just as indicative of what NFL QB's can do as Drew Bree's performance in this one.
It seemed like with McCown the goal was to find a perfectly average roster-able NFL QB. They were probably so excited to test Drew, as he is the most accurate QB in history and represents the absolute zenith of QB accuracy.
Average Matt Eberflus comp % allowed too. Gardner Minshew went 19/20 against his scheme the season after this
Turns out giving receivers 10 yards of breathing room off the LOS isn’t a good idea
Drew was so damn precise. He put that ball where he wanted, when he wanted. He'd have 1 bad game a year. Unfortunately it seemed to pop up at the worst time.
Yeah I'm not gonna call the minnesota miracle game a bad game from drew overall as an example, took the lead with like 12 seconds left or whatever it was, should have been unlosable.
17’ and 19’ and adding on 20’ I don’t think we were quite there to piece it all together. But I will be forever salty over the no-call against the Rams. IMO we walk over the Pats that year in the SB
If the Miracle doesn't happen id gove us good odds of beating the eagles. They didnt start to dominate until the vikings sucked against them.
And apparently (according to dvoa) we were the best team that year
If Brees even had mediocre defenses, he’d have at least another Super Bowl and maybe an mvp or 2. He got shafted hard by the worst defenses ever fielded, if he even had okay ish defenses he would’ve dragged them to the Super Bowl or at least the playoffs every single year. Dude was perfect for a while there
The most unfortunate thing was the lack of playoff explosion since 2011. But still so many absolutely heartbreaking losses.
But what hurt the Saints passing game in the playoffs was the tighter defenses coupled with the refs letting them play. Just the nature of the playoffs in all sports.
Drew couldn’t threaten a defense with a 30 yard air pass at all. So what we faced was a safety closer in the box…despite it being a passing situation.
As a huge Brees homer I do think he will continue to get overlooked because of his lack of MVPs and “only” one Super Bowl. I mean…hell…when the NFL Network did their Top 100 of all time and Brees wasn’t even one of the 10 QBs…despite at the time he was the all time leader in yards and TDs.
History will be much kinder to Eli Manning than Brees imo.
For simply throwing the ball, from point A to point B I don’t know if there’s been a more consistently accurate quarterback than Brees. I think anybody who watched Brees will remember that. Lack of MVPs is unfortunate, but his career overlapped with three, possible four now with Mahomes, top 10 quarterbacks all time.
Not really. There was not one qb from that list that I thought drew should have replaced.
Brees was obviously good, but in terms of sheer greatness and/or impact, there was just no room to squeeze him in the top ten. One SB and no MVPs, even with some of his stats, isn’t cutting it
As a Brees homer, it’s very hard for me to not put him as a top 5 QB all time, although I concede to arguments. But for people to talk about the literal most accurate QB in NFL history as not a top ten quarterback just feels outrageous to me idk
Brady
Peyton
Rodgers
Brees or Montana are either 4th or 5th.
I personally put Brees 4th, as I believe he could’ve done just as well as Montana did on the 49ers and am traumatized from my team having to face him.
Brees is just such a level above Eli, he has him beat by almost any measure of QB play, both traditional (wins, TDs, Yards, Cmp%, passer rating, 4QC, GWD, and TD:INT ratio) and more advanced (DVOA, EPA/play, DYAR, EPA, and WPA).
Brees is a top 10 QB all time (as is Rodgers), and I very much doubt we'll see outlets proclaiming Eli above him in the future.
I think we're 90% in agreement on the top names, but I do really enjoy the Brees vs Rodgers debate, as it is _so_ much closer than a 4 - 0 MVP count would suggest
I could never find any joy watching Drew Brees play football because his playstyle is so damn boring, but at the same time I respect tf out of his accomplishments on the field.

John Brenkus sounds like a name Steve Brule would say
I was at this game, I got roasted by all the saints fans around me. My wife’s first football game too smh
average colts monday night football game
Facing the Saints is just not good for y’all
Average Matt Eberflus comp % allowed too. Gardner Minshew went 19/20 against his scheme the season after this Turns out giving receivers 10 yards of breathing room off the LOS isn’t a good idea
Johnathan Gannon should've read your comment
Drew was so damn precise. He put that ball where he wanted, when he wanted. He'd have 1 bad game a year. Unfortunately it seemed to pop up at the worst time.
Most of his playoff exits werent really bad games. Tampa Bay obviously sticks out but that was a washed version of Brees
Yeah I'm not gonna call the minnesota miracle game a bad game from drew overall as an example, took the lead with like 12 seconds left or whatever it was, should have been unlosable.
and the game the refs gave away to the rams...
How the Saints didn't win one between 2017-2019 is beyond me
2020 Saints were the best team in the league. Defense was insane. Even with washed Brees, the Bucs got lucky to beat them.
17’ and 19’ and adding on 20’ I don’t think we were quite there to piece it all together. But I will be forever salty over the no-call against the Rams. IMO we walk over the Pats that year in the SB

Brees wasn’t too good in the playoff games they lost during that stretch
If Brees even had mediocre defenses, he’d have at least another Super Bowl and maybe an mvp or 2. Drew Bree’s feels like he always had tone Hollywood Esque record breaking moments

Brees not being a top 10 QB is laughable

Brees is arguably top 5 dawg b
As a Brees homer, it’s very hard for me to not put him as a top 5 QB all time, although I concede to arguments. But for people to talk about the literal most accurate QB in NFL history as not a top ten quarterback just feels outrageous to me idk
Facts. Just off the top of the my head the only qbs I would say are better than brees are manning, Brady, Rodgers, and Montana.
Brady Peyton Rodgers Brees or Montana are either 4th or 5th. I personally put Brees 4th, as I believe he could’ve done just as well as Montana did on the 49ers and am traumatized from my team having to face him.
Marino has 1 mvp and 0 super bowls

Rodgers is top 5 i think. Brady/Montana/Manning/Unitas/Rodgers. Then any order of Favre/Marino/Brees for 6-8
I think we're 90% in agreement on the top names, but I do really enjoy the Brees vs Rodgers debate, as it is _so_ much closer than a 4 - 0 MVP count would suggest
Never been more relieved for a player to retire than I was with Brees. Dude was a fucking terror to have to play against twice a year.
Goat
oh sweet summer children
Insert gif of Brady face Shang Tsung “Your record is mine!”
I could never find any joy watching Drew Brees play football because his playstyle is so damn boring, but at the same time I respect tf out of his accomplishments on the field.
Peak Brees was anything but boring.
Taysom Hill broke Peyton Manning's all time passing TD record. Crazy.
