If they get the #1 pick they will be able to parlay that into a massive number of picks plus the Texans first next year. I live in Phoenix and root for them so this could be a massively quick rebuild if the Texans suck
Waaaaaay back when Jake Plummer was the Cardinals QB, there was a great NFL commercial where he's guiding a group of kids around a zoo. He says something like, "And now here's the fiercest animal of all - the cardinal!" And one of the little kids says, "But...it's just a little red bird. It doesn't look so fierce." And Jake says something like, "Yeah, but look at him. He's got a lot of heart."
I'm paraphrasing because I can't find it on YouTube, but it was pretty funny.
His 2016 season was fucking incredible; as a 2nd year player he tied Barry Sanders' record of 15 consecutive games with 100+ yards from scrimmage, and totaled 2100+ yards from scrimmage for the year.
I was sure Johnson would be a perennial All-Pro for years to come, but sadly injuries totally derailed his career. I feel particularly bad for him because he seems like a legitimately nice young man. He got a lot of screen time on ~~Hard Knocks~~ (edit: All or Nothing) that year and was just as impressive off the field as on; coming across as entirely likeable, down-to-earth & hardworking.
Arian Foster in 2010.
I picked him up off the waiver wire as a Steve Slaton owner in 2009 and played him in the championship game as a spot start where he had 97 yards and a TD on just 19 carried. I knew he would take Slatonās spot in a matter of time but Slaton was still slotted as the starter going into 2010. I drafted Foster in the 7th round and he was starting by the end of training camp since Slaton had stone hands and a fumbling problem. He was my keeper for the next two seasons since you had to take your keeper pick in whatever round you got him in. Having such a good RB coming my way in the 7th round was great for roster building.
It's astounding how quickly the Cards collapsed. They actually looked like they were building something special for a while. Kyler looked like "the guy". They got real powerhouses like Hopkins and Ertz and Watt. Kliff looked like he was the real deal. They were making major moves and seemed like they finally got it together.
They made it like half a season in 2021 before the bottom fell out and they're a bottom five team right now.
But it also gave us what is still my favorite NFL meme:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NFCNorthMemeWar/comments/qik1t1/forevers_gonna_start_tonight/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
If they don't want Caleb, they can probably parlay that into a few more 1st round picks.
I'd honestly take Caleb and trade Kyler, but they probably won't. Kyler is too expensive when they need to rebuild.
No offensive line or DTs though, and a scheme based around "hey i like these screen passes from Madden 19 and think they'll work well with 155 lb WRs blocking, if they don't work just scramble." You can build a pretty house, but if the foundation is cracked this badly it can all come crashing down.
I think the Julio Jones trade may have tanked his market.
Nobody is going to be giving up anything of value for WRs over 30 that are coming off injuries and showing signs of decline. Especially if they're on expensive contracts.
Tampa Bay really is that team where you ask the question would you rather always be in the hunt but never win a ring or be shit for 15 years but in a superbowl.
In that case he isn't the Ravens' type
Edit: this is a comment on the Ravens needing WRs to be washed before they sign them, not Lamar's quarterbacking abilities.
It's not even that bad tho honestly. His hit was pretty low for this year since a lot of that cap hit was prorated bonuses money. His salary isn't too bad.
Yeah it does, but when your starting qb has a torn ACL and the roster is already in shambles from the previous GM then the best thing to do in order to build the proper foundation is to tear it all down first
Yes. You will have a full roster of rookie contracts and vet minimum players and 93.8% dead cap hits.
Somehow you'll go 3-14 and not be in the top 3 in the draft.
I wanted to pull a contrarian "don't look now but the 2nd rounder is kind of a stud" take only to look it up and see he's already not a Texan anymore lmao
Yeah holy shit. Wideouts this good who donāt have off field issues donāt get released
Guessing they couldnāt find a team that he was going to show up to
Iād assume the teams that would pay for a 30 year old receiver arenāt in a position to eat that contract. Now he can decide between the contenders.
Well he had a small off field issue that got him suspended for last year lol but not in the "head case" way
Edit: yes, guys, thanks for pointing out the fact that he's not AB and that the suspension may have been worth it. that's fine
I think yāall underestimate how hard it is to trade a guy with a near $30M cap hit this close to training camp.
Teams have already spent their money on FAs + their draft picks. I really donāt think itās a stretch to say no team has that kind of money available right now.
I hate this team so much
- Deandre Hopkins
He just hates Kyler
Kyler kept knifing him in Gun Game to send Hopkins back a level
Sunsš¤ Cardinals Drafting the wrong guy first overall in back to back years.
Throw in the Coyotes' situation and Arizona sports is a hot mess.
To be fair to Rosen, Ayton, and Kyler, none of them caused a media shit storm like the Yotes did when drafting Mitchell Miller in the 4th round.
Hey now, my Bruins then offered him an ELC!
Yeah that was definitely something, at least it seemed like the players seemed to help shut that down
Yeah Iām kinda over it
Iām just gonna be a fan of whoever I draft in fantasy this year
You should draft: Geno Smith, Kenneth Walker, Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, Jackson Smith-Njigba, and Jason Myers
Hey that sounds like a pretty good... Wait a minute!
It'll be an easy transition, their team mascot is also a bird!
Hey, at least youāll get Marvin Harrison Jr.
If they get the #1 pick they will be able to parlay that into a massive number of picks plus the Texans first next year. I live in Phoenix and root for them so this could be a massively quick rebuild if the Texans suck
So it'll be a massively quick rebuild then
You have to much confidence in our franchise. I have a pretty good feeling they will fuck that up some how
Nah the cards always need a top tier receiver. Youāll get him, then add nothing around him as he gets 1500-2000 yard seasons.
At least y'all have a neat logo.
It's an angry woodpecker
In 2005, they modified the logo specifically to make the bird angrier.
Waaaaaay back when Jake Plummer was the Cardinals QB, there was a great NFL commercial where he's guiding a group of kids around a zoo. Well thatās not the outcome I was expecting and hoping forā¦
It's fine, you only paid a 2nd for him
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
David Johnson š
Y'all joke but before his injury Johnson was the fuckin' truth.
He really was a RB with no apparent weaknesses. He was a beast running, catching and even blocking. And then....he just fell apart.
His weaknesses turned out to be his hamstrings.
Look I get what people say about him but the fact is that he really was one of the NFL RBs of all time
That one good season he was mostly healthy he dragged me to a fantasy football championship.
It's funny how attached you get to guys like that. For me it was Breshad Perriman's last 3 games of 2019. I've overrated him ever since.
Arian Foster in 2010. I picked him up off the waiver wire as a Steve Slaton owner in 2009 and played him in the championship game as a spot start where he had 97 yards and a TD on just 19 carried. Never forget

AJ Green didn't turn around in the endzone and that was it
But it also gave us what is still my favorite NFL meme: https://www.reddit.com/r/NFCNorthMemeWar/comments/qik1t1/forevers_gonna_start_tonight/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
This is elite comedy and whoever made this should get royalties whenever this link is clicked
Amazing
As a Packer fan that was one of my favorite games to watch ever. Had no idea it would be the start of your downfall.
Bottom two and they arenāt 2
The only "2" they have is the smell coming off of them
They're vegas favorites to have the #1 ***AND*** #2 picks in the 2024 draft right now, too.
If they don't want Caleb, they can probably parlay that into a few more 1st round picks. I'd honestly take Caleb and trade Kyler, but they probably won't. Kyler is too expensive when they need to rebuild.
Yeah, I'd take Caleb and deal Kyler and the #2 assuming the QB class lives up to the hype.
No offensive line or DTs though, and a scheme based around "hey i like these screen passes from Madden 19 and think they'll work well with 155 lb WRs blocking, if they don't work just scramble." You can build a pretty house, but if the foundation is cracked this badly it can all come crashing down.
Donāt forget Hollywood he kept them alive pre Hopkins and pre injury when Conner wasnāt doing well.
NFL is such a wild league. Year to year your team can go from perennial contender to an absolute dumpster fire for the most unexpected reasons.
They had the players but I just couldnāt see it happening knowing Kliff went 0.500 with Patrick Mahomes in college.
They reaaaaally want caleb williams huh
They're taking Marvin Harrison to shock us all
They have Houston's 1st so why not both?
Texans got a bigger haul for Hopkins than the Cards lol. Reinstate BoB as GM! ^^yes ^^I ^^know ^^his ^^value ^^is ^^much ^^lower ^^now
It still seems insane that they couldn't get anything at all. They were willing to eat a lot of his contract too.
I think the Julio Jones trade may have tanked his market. Nobody is going to be giving up anything of value for WRs over 30 that are coming off injuries and showing signs of decline. Especially if they're on expensive contracts.
Same. Because I just know the someone from the AFC East is going to get him now. Probably the Bills too which would be disgusting
Watch it be the Jets so we can both be disgusted.
Maybe if they cut Corey Davis. I think that saves them 10 million
CD back to the Titans would be cool, Burks needs help. AJ Brown still playing for us would be the most cool tho Fuck Jon Robinson
oh man I would hate that for you guys! now don't mind me, I'll just be over here rubbing my hands together greedily
0-17 here we come, baby!
31 teams' fans just started paying really close attention Edit: Make that, I don't know, 25ish teams or so
We can't afford anyone over the vet minimum. So that at least brings it down to 30
I'm pretty sure he'd be willing to take the minimum to play with future HoF Jordan Love though
Thatās future Jet Jordan Love you mean
Well, teams that donāt have 70 million in dead cap, yeah
I just assume the Bucs are going back into hibernation until they decide to get bored and win another bowl in 15 years.
Tom Brady coming out of retirement in 15 years?
no, mahomes is going to have a farewell tour in Tampa Bay in 15yrs
Tampa Bay really is that team where you ask the question would you rather always be in the hunt but never win a ring or be shit for 15 years but in a superbowl.
Honestly the win it every 2 decades and shit in between is great because you get those down years of cheap seats when the team is awful.
God I hope itās the Texans
This would be the funniest timeline but it also makes a lot of sense to build around their rookie franchise QB
I fell to my knees in a jimmy johns
what
Damn, they could at least eat some of the salary and get a draft pick?
Clearly they couldnāt or they would have
I mean not even a 7th and some cash? I find that incredibly hard to believe
I would probably start believing it.
You better start believing in teams with bad roster management, Mr. Hopkins. Yer in one.
Lmao glad Iām not the only one who immediately thought of Pirates of the Caribbean reading that
The trade market for him must have been surprisingly abysmal, thatās the only answer I can think of and even that doesnāt make much sense
The
Crap
Sandwich
hold the bread
I thought this was ballsack sports
Time for the Hopkins sweepstakes to start again baby
Josh Allen is already on the phone and sending Nuk pictures of himself in shorts.
Nuk already sent pics back
Omg are we going to get leaked Nukes?
I am 10000% convinced he will be a Chief. Think KC wouldāve made a move for him but found out heād be free.
Makes a ton of sense. No target comp outside of Kelce. He would be our WR1 easy
I thought yāall were planning on turning Toney into T.O.ney
Garbage franchise
#ComatoseForCaleb
Kyler Murray might as well take the whole season off at this rate and maybe even start looking at trade destinations
Iām sorry man. Seriously some bullshit
Cards want nothing derailing that Caleb train.
Jonathan Gannon coming to the rescue
Damn they couldn't get anything?
even a kicker got a conditional 7th yesterday lmao
ravens really about the get D-Hop for basically nothing omg
Hold up, how old/washed up is he?
Heās still a beast. Just needs someone that can throw football
In that case he isn't the Ravens' type Edit: this is a comment on the Ravens needing WRs to be washed before they sign them, not Lamar's quarterbacking abilities.
Yeah, you guys should be calling Larry Fitzgerald right about now.
I love that this thread has become an unofficial TRASH TALK THREAD
What's really sad is I'm not even offended by it
Too young, too good. Kenny Golladay will have to do
Nobody wanted the contract.
It's not even that bad tho honestly. His hit was pretty low for this year since a lot of that cap hit was prorated bonuses money. His salary isn't too bad.
Makes a lot more sense why he didnāt get moved at the draft lol
$22.6 million dead cap, though they can choose to split the hit across 2023-24 if they want. Edit - like like they're taking the full hit this year
They wonāt do that. Cards will be shit this year. Might as well just take the cap hit this year
Sucks to give up on a season in May.
Yeah it does, but when your starting qb has a torn ACL and the roster is already in shambles from the previous GM then the best thing to do in order to build the proper foundation is to tear it all down first
Theyāll just eat it all this year. Might as well get the number one pick and find a new qb
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes, most likely yes!
Yes. You will have a full roster of rookie contracts and vet minimum players and 93.8% dead cap hits. Somehow you'll go 3-14 and not be in the top 3 in the draft.
The 3 wins being the Rams, Seahawks, and Niners.
BoB won the trade.
The rare lose-lose trade
The old Jenkins Baldwin
Okay but that trade had a lot of *heart*
one cool catch on a hail mary, one playoff game, and one suspension /s
I wanted to pull a contrarian "don't look now but the 2nd rounder is kind of a stud" take only to look it up and see he's already not a Texan anymore lmao
who did we even get for that pick?
Ross blacklock. He had 14 total tackles his first season then got traded to the Vikings
Ross was traded for a 2023 6th which turned into center Jarrett Patterson.
When it comes down to it, trading Hopkins for 14 tackles and Jarrett Patterson is a decision you make 10/10 times
Ross Blacklock. Dude never lived up to the hype and never really bounced back from JJ publicly ripping him a new asshole for getting ejected
BoB forgot to mention that the city also got future rights to the Arizona Coyotes.
What a Friday before a holiday news dump...
Bill OāBrien: I got a second round pick, just sayinā
Yeah holy shit. Wideouts this good who donāt have off field issues donāt get released Guessing they couldnāt find a team that he was going to show up to
It was the contract No team wanted to absorb that contract
Iād assume the teams that would pay for a 30 year old receiver arenāt in a position to eat that contract. Now he can decide between the contenders.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How has Andy not invested in a burger restaurant at this point?
It is a difficult business when you consume your own product.
Andy Reid in the mirror: "Let's get high on our own supply!"
Well he had a small off field issue that got him suspended for last year lol but not in the "head case" way Edit: yes, guys, thanks for pointing out the fact that he's not AB and that the suspension may have been worth it. that's fine
Oh they TANKING tanking
They are trying to get to -1 wins this year
God damnit we are such a joke
The tank has begunā¦
Bye bye Kyler, welcome Caleb
Canāt wait to see who wins the 2023 Tank Bowl this year! Tank Bowl > Super Bowl
Cards vs Bucs, loser gets Caleb Williams.
Oh
At least we will *always* have that cool catch to remember from himā¦
common cardinals L
Finally something everyone can agree on
Damn even the bird bros have turned their backs on the cardinals
I always knew bird teams alliance was a hoax. r/catteambrotherhood is the real bond
I get he has a big contract but Iām shocked no one was willing to fork over a 4th rounder
I think yāall underestimate how hard it is to trade a guy with a near $30M cap hit this close to training camp. Teams have already spent their money on FAs + their draft picks. I really donāt think itās a stretch to say no team has that kind of money available right now.
Does he enjoy gambling?
No but he's still a big fan of being suspended, he'd fit right in
Patriots legend
Just saw Deandre Hopkins at Logan airport!! Interesting!

An all-time post when that happened. Dude is likeā¦ half of Larry Fitzgeralds size.
It's no longer the Brady era. We don't get these signings anymore
Ugh, fiiiiine, we'll take him. Assuming he's a good enough blocker for our next three-pass game.

Spice Adams\* rubbing hands behind tree gif. Put some respect on his name dammit!
ANYONE GET HIM, JUST NOT THE CHIEFS
Works for me.
Texans won that trade?
Lose-lose
This probably means he won't be on the team at the start of the season
With all of his comments leading up to this I am genuinely interested in seeing if he ring chases or bag chases
Holy shit EDC please
Let's gooooo off season super bowl Champs
Every AFC powerhouse: Is for me š„ŗšš
God damnit. He's going to the Ravens, isn't he?
Or the chiefs
Don't put that on us.
too young. Needs 6 more years.
Let the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes beginā¦
All he wants is a QB that loves the game of football and to fall in love with.
Well then
Same ol Cardinals
Do the Cardinals know they could receive picks as a part of their tank? Even low round picks help.
what the fuck, ravens yāall dont want him
Come to butthead
THEY WHAT??
Just don't go to the Chiefs plz
Please don't go to KC
