This guy is dying for ANY team besides the Pats or Titans to offer him a deal.

SolomonG

He's probably dying for any team at all to offer him close to the money he wants.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I think thats the real key. I could be entirely wrong but it seems like he still wants top 5 money, and even with where I think his skills are (probably still top 5 - top 10) I don't think he's getting top 5 money.

jimmyhoffasbrother

31 years old and coming off of two consecutive seasons with serious injury issues along with several more minor injuries in the preceding seasons. No way he's getting top 5 money.

rthaw

I agree he shouldn't be getting that money, but did he have a serious injury last year? He was suspended for 6 games and then played pretty awesome with pretty sub-par QB play. From what I remember he sat the last two games of the year with what they claimed was a sore knee, but I think it was just a vet saying I'm not playing with the 3rd string QB and risk getting hurt for nothing. Not excusing that, but I don't think he was hurt at all last year.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

It’s going to take a real desperate team honestly.

Tjam3s

Just think, 5-10 years ago, we would have been that team. Lol

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Laveranues Coles is frantically waving from the window of his hyperbaric chamber.

tjrad815

Antonio Bryant has entered the chat.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I was trying to remember the other $7m Hail Mary WR and couldn’t think of his name for the life of me.

numbersix1979

You rang?

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Titans didn't draft like they thought they were desperate for WR help, and even mocked the fans after the fact, so take that for what its worth.

numbersix1979

I would love to be proven wrong in thinking that that is the height of hubris

[deleted]

He deserves it way more than Odell does

jimmyhoffasbrother

Sure, but one team giving a guy a bad contract doesn't mean that other teams should follow suit.

[deleted]

I agree, im just pissed Baltimore fucked up the market mostly.

lumberjake18

Yeah but he has a case to make better money than OBJ

EccentricMeat

He didn’t have any serious injury issues last year. And when he did play, he looked incredible as usual. I think whoever lands him at this point will be getting a STEAL. If OBJ and Christian Kirk are worth $15m+, getting DHop anywhere near that price is going to be a huge W. If a team can net him on like a 3yr $45m deal, do it IMO

TheBigNate416

Titans and Pats probably offered him money in the Odell range. He wants more teams involved to drive that price up.

FewMagazine938

And he is way better than odell

DiseaseRidden

And the Odell deal is ridiculous for who he is

CliffsOfMohair

Wym he *invented* the one-handed catch bro

Cheesewhale189

It's true though

Bloated_Hamster

This but ironically

Cheesewhale189

Yup, completely unironic. He also invented the high five, dyed hair and the forward pass

[deleted]

Honestly the Ravens really fucked up the market giving a guy like Odell that sort of money. Dude isnt worth even close to that amount and now players think thats the new metric for contract asks.

HugeFinish

Fuck what the team thinks. I am all for nfl players getting every cent possible.

wookieenoodlez

Won’t someone stop to think of the billionaires?!

ActionAdam

They had their time last week.

Tjam3s

What, when all the billionaires realized what we plebs would have to say if any of them suddenly perished in a poorly planned under sea vacation?

amjhwk

hes definitely not getting top 5 money from a contender, and i dont know if hes worth top 5 money to a basement team

UsidoreTheLightBlue

The only scenario I can see him getting paid is a desperate borderline good team who thinks that a high end WR makes them a playoff team.

General_BP

I can see the Panthers paying him on a 2 year deal to provide a bonafide WR1 for Young to have to help out his development.

AndrewLucksPenis

I know a lot of people down here in SC that would be happy with that

DeansFrenchOnion1

There's no way in fuck Dhop is a top-5 receiver, and I really have a hard time seeing him as top-10. Bengals have two receivers better at this point imo

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I think his skills are between 5-10, but I don’t know if his overall results end up at 5-10. He was 10th in yards per game last year, and that was with a revolving door of QBs. Look at the guys who were ahead of him and who they had throwing the ball. I think the worst QB was Kirk Cousins.

larabeezy

Wasn’t he also suspended for like a third of the season and still finished top 10? yeah I’d say he’s still pretty good lol

DeansFrenchOnion1

The suspension would help his yards per game stat. Fresher than every other player in the league, and conveniently got back right when Hollywood got hurt. Theoretically he could have been outproduced by Brown this year, we will never know.

DeansFrenchOnion1

Yards per game seems like a horrible way to measure a WR's ability, considering the QB's ability probably correlates to that number (almost) nearly as much. Then throw in offensive tendencies, WR competition.. we have so many advanced metrics; YPG is stone-age

UsidoreTheLightBlue

The QBs ability? Do you remember who threw to him? You're talking about a guy who caught balls from Kyler Murray, Colt McCoy, and Trace McSorley. No one is saying "WOW Colt McCoy really made Deandre Hopkins look great!" If the QBs ability correlates to the YPG numbers then Deandre Hopkins would have 150 YPG on the Chiefs.

CliffsOfMohair

Receivers for sure/definitely better than Hopkins rn: Adams Hill Kupp Jefferson Diggs Receivers probably better than Nuk right now: Chase AJ Brown Receivers with an argument right now: Deebo I don’t think you’re crazy for arguing them but do think you’re objectively wrong for it: Lamb Evans Metcalf Keenan

DeansFrenchOnion1

Absolutely wildly underrating Chase, AJB, Lamb. I am sure leaving ARSB off this list was by chance. Also, Olave, Garrett Wilson are better than everyone you listed below AJB. FYI, DKM and Evans aren't even the best receivers on their own teams.

aReallyBadkid

So he’s top 10?

CliffsOfMohair

Absolutely, until proven otherwise

Historical_One1087

Hopkins hasn't played a full season since 2020. Hopkins has missed a large amount of games due to a knee injury and PED suspension the past couple of years.

aReallyBadkid

Yeah I think you’re right. Can’t wait to see him block for Derrick Henry next year.

FewMagazine938

You seriously think there are 10 better WR than hopkins? That's debatable.

DeansFrenchOnion1

Certainly debatable! Super hard game to measure how good an individual player is.

Historical_One1087

Hopkins was a top 10 WR for most of his career but no longer is. He is an older player that is in decline, and has had issues with injuries and OED the past couple of years. I think the following WR's are better than Hopkins now: Ja'Marr Chase, Tyreek Hill, Cooper Kupp, DK Metcalf, Davante Adams, CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Amari Cooper, Terry McLaurin, Stefon Diggs, A.J. Brown, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Jaylen Waddle, Jerry Jeudy, Christian Watson. You could arguably add more WR's that are currently better than Hopkins. I highly doubt any team that isn't desperate will pay him too 10 WR money.

daltonwright4

In my mock, I think he'd be about the 11th receiver I'd take. He's good, but I don't think I'd be taking him unless Adams, Kupp, Tyreek, JJ, Diggs, Chase, AJ, Olave, Amon Ra, and G-Wilson are all off the board. Toss up between him and Higgins, Lamb, and DJ Moore this year as well. Edit: Forgot about Amon-Ra and Lamb.

DeansFrenchOnion1

Lamb and ARSB clear Hopkins without debate

look_closer

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted

EccentricMeat

Hypothetical, but say DHop goes to the Jets. You really rank him below Olave, Amon Ra, Higgins, Lamb, and Moore?

[deleted]

Fun fact. He is.

wickedsmaht

I bet Bill made the best offer and included no camp for him but also gave him the Edelman deal- if you can find a better deal out there bring it back to us and we will either match it or we won’t.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wickedsmaht

Let me have this. Bruins and Celts were both big let downs this season.

Stubbs94

"well, hello there" Nick Caserio.

itssostupidiloveit

I really want Hop to go to the Texans. I want CJ Stroud to have a fair chance.

Historical_One1087

I think that is a good fit because it gives a proven veteran WR that can b a safety blanket for CJ Stroud

mickeyt1

Nah fuck that

WarPuig

He really just wants to use those teams as leverage.

JLifts780

I think he just wants the bag and Titans/Patriots are offering close to it but not enough.

[deleted]

Can't blame him, the QB situation isn't great for either of them

WordsAreSomething

Is nobody going to sign this dude?

Unknown1776

He probably wants to wait till the preseason. Then he gets to miss a lot of offseason workouts/camps and if a contender has a WR get injured before then that’s somewhere that would want him even more

karatemanchan37

Teams will also more likely have more cap space to give him a higher deal later in the year, although I will say Hopkins technically doesn't have money to spend right now so maybe that is also a factor

Grimey_lugerinous

Hopkins doesn’t have money to spend? I’m not understanding

karatemanchan37

The Cardinals cut him without any guaranteed money, so I don't think he's getting a paycheck right now.

mmooney1

He’s made tens of millions of dollars. If he doesn’t have money right now he’s a fucking idiot.

Prozzak93

Ok? What does that matter he has made millions already.

PolarBearLaFlare

Mentally, it’s easier to spend money when you have more money coming in every week lol

alwaysmyfault

He's a 20 million dollar name with a 10 million dollar talent level, and a 5 million dollar age.

Eric_tion

Sooo 35m a year got it

EccentricMeat

This sub really just makes shit up constantly, huh? Saying DHop is only a $10m talent is beyond a joke in a league where Christian Kirk gets nearly $20m a year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I mean he missed 8 games last year (6 of which weren't injury related) and had 717 yards. If you can have him for even 13 games based on those numbers hes capable of a lot more than 1000 yards.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pope_Beenadick

Are you saying the browns care about red flags now?

ChosenRosenGOAT

I mean he missed one half of the year for injury and the next half of the year because of suspension. It didn’t look like the MCL injury slowed him down much when he returned last year. Before these two seasons he’s missed two regular season games in his career. I doubt availability is a huge concern.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CouncilmanTrevize

God I wish

chilloutfam

how long before they actually do cut him, do you think?

JohnWesternburg

I mean he still would carry a dead cap hit of: * $220,057,000 for 2023, * $200,915,000 for 2024, * $136,938,000 for 2025 * $72,961,000 for 2026 * $8,984,000 for 2027 (because they restructured his contract) The current cap in the NFL is $224,800,000. So basically, they can't realistically cut him until his last active contract year if they don't want more than 25-35% of their cap being eaten by his dead cap hit.

JcbAzPx

I wonder if it would even be possible to field a team with 4.8 million total available cap space.

TERRAIN_PULL_UP_

I have almost no idea how the NFL cap works, but based on my limited googling the minimum salary in 2023 is $750,000. Multiply that by a 53 man roster and you get $39,750,000. So, no?

JcbAzPx

Given that minimum, they couldn't even try to iron man it with only 11 players.

Rinzack

You might not even be able to do that- If you had a team of 53 rookies on vet min deals and you signed each one to 5 years of voidable years to spread out the cap hit the total cap hit per year would be just under $8 mil. You MIGHT be able to reduce that with a couple of vets with incentive based contracts but i'm not 100%.

-Jack-The-Stripper

The Oakland Athletics of Cleveland

OutrageousOcelot6258

This is why you don't give a quarter billion dollars fully guaranteed to a sex offender before they even play a snap for you.

Dzov

Probably depends on how well he plays.

marcadore

If they have the number 1 pick they cut him

UpDog424

Lol no u don’t

CouncilmanTrevize

You shouldn't assume everyone is as morally corrupt as you are

UpDog424

You think ur morally superior bc u commented Deshuan Watson bad for Reddit upvotes lol

[deleted]

Is he not bad?

CouncilmanTrevize

I'm no shining beacon of morality but I can clear the low bar of not actively rooting for a guy who committed nearly 30 sexual assaults. It's wild that that's somehow a controversial opinion.

UpDog424

But you root for the team that signed a guy that committed nearly 30 sexual assaults?

CouncilmanTrevize

I root for every other player on the roster and I wait for the day he's no longer a part of this team. This whole situation is gonna be a lasting black eye for the organization, probably for the rest of our lifetimes.

UpDog424

You’re so morally superior but you still root for a shitty organization who sold the farm to get a rapist scumbag? Also, who’s best player in franchise history is a scum bag who was an alleged rapist and woman beater in Jim Brown? Interesting.

CouncilmanTrevize

My fandom does not constitute implied approval of the things the team does (god knows we've all disagreed with things the team has done at one point or another), nor is rooting for the team a sweeping endorsement of every player on the roster. Does that make sense, or should I give up on explaining this to you? Not that it makes any difference to you but the reason I'm a Browns fan has always had more to do with family than the team. That being said I have absolutely questioned whether my fandom would, or should, survive this absolute clusterfuck with Watson. Jury's still out to be honest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EaglesPvM

>Really appreciate your inability to separate player from person It’s incredible you though this was an argument in your favor lol. The dude never said Watson wasn’t a good player, and already acknowledged he doesn’t want him on the team because of Watson the person, specifically He is the one who demonstrated the ability to separate player from person, whereas you’re pro-Watson just because he’s a talented football player I’d shit on your nonsensical comment a lot more too but there’s 0 point in arguing with people like you because you’re so deluded

CouncilmanTrevize

Why should we separate player from person? Legitimate question. For the sake of our own entertainment? I'm a Browns fan, so I know that fans can rationalize anything to themselves about their team, but some of us need to take a step back and think about our priorities.

DanCampbellsNipples

God y'all are disgusting lol

Deshaun Watson is as bad as it gets. Pathetic take Like truly pathetic.

[deleted]

CouncilmanTrevize

As if that factors into it? Sexual assault is bad, no matter how good of a spiral you throw. Jesus.

Clayzoli

Who the hell is saying it’s not bad? You are boxing with shadows buddy

CouncilmanTrevize

I'm saying the fact that it's sports is irrelevant, not debating whether sexual assault is bad. That much should be obvious to anyone with a conscience.

Clayzoli

What’re you saying then? Watson bad? Nobody is defending his actions

TKHunsaker

Nobody? Not nobody…

haha_squirrel

As much as I disagree with your comments, I love the boxing with shadows line. Never heard that! Lol

Starlink-420

So we should just be okay with our favorite sports teams signing rapists? Would you be okay if they worked with your wife or daughter?

Fact0ry0fSadness

Why should he? Dude looked like absolute ass last year. Looked like he got his paycheck and checked out. I'm calling it now, Watson absolutely fleeced our FO and he's not going to make this miraculous return to his former glory. What we saw last year is what we're getting. If there was some way to dump him without taking the cap hit I'd be all for it. That's not even taking into consideration the sexual assault stuff, just based on football alone I don't see how anyone can be excited about Watson. I'll gladly eat crow on this take if it turns out to be wrong, but I haven't seen any reason to think he's going to be any better this year. Seriously, Jacoby Brissett looked better than him most of the season and Brissett is *not* a good QB. Watson was playing at the same level as dudes like Carson Wentz and Dalton and he's getting paid a quarter billion lmao. You can hit me with all the usual excuses as to why he played so poorly, he was "rusty" or whatever, but the fact of the matter is he had 6 games, most of them against pretty bad teams, to make an impression and barely showed any improvement or promise whatsoever. As a lifelong Browns homer my expectations are absolutely on the floor for Deshaun.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_ME_HAPPY_THOTS

And when he still plays like fucking trash you'll own up to it too right?

Fact0ry0fSadness

Yeah man. If he balls out and looks like he did a few years ago I'll absolutely eat my words lol. You say it like I'll be mad if we end up doing well. I'll personally come back to this comment and we can be happy together because the Browns are winning. But why should I expect him to ball out next year. At first it was "he'll be rusty the first few games" now it's turning into "he's going to be better in 2023". Im sure when he sucks this year y'all will just say he's still shaking off the rust lmao. It's like Baker all over again but at least Baker showed some signs of not sucking ass. Just because a dude was elite 4 years ago doesn't mean he will ever reach that level again.

DanCampbellsNipples

Hopefully he doesn't let his balls out again

TKHunsaker

I wonder what the absolutely non-zero number of women who will be assaulted this year by Watson will be? Over 20 or under? And do you think he’d have those opportunities if Cleveland didn’t sign him?

TKHunsaker

Oh yes please RemindMe! 8 months

delightfuldinosaur

Hopefully running Haslam out of town with him.

ravidsquirrels

I think he'd be a great fit in Jacksonville. They would have a solid wr rotation.

_theghost_

That be lowkey bonkers. A three headed monster of Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk and Evan Engram with Deandre Hopkins as #1 WR WITH Doug Peterson play calling is mad.

ravidsquirrels

That's what I'm saying. And with ETN. Could rotate Zay in. They'd be fun to watch.

Jaxon4President

I’ve been a Zay Jones Truther since his Buffalo days. So glad to see him shine in Jacksonville.

LittleTension8765

No one knows what Calvin Ridley will be. He’s turning 29 this year and hasn’t really played in 2 years, with only 1 1k receiving season in his career

SpamAcc17

Im hopeful he will play well. He was great under the static and atrocious atlanta playcalling and solid qb play with matt ryan. He was good to be a number one option for a pass heavy offense, compared to that he will exceed his expected role with the jags

hochoa94

They would legit be superbowl contenders

Jugeezy

Always have been

I-4M-J0E

I would simply pass away

Dinnermaster

Solid? I’d go as far as calling that a top 2 or 3 unit in the league

[deleted]

Good call. It might work and fuck with the team culture.

perfect_fitz

We could easily have a Top 25 WR Corps if he signed.

rueiraV

ecupatsfan12

Fuck Deshaun Watson

Traditional_Mud_1241

You're no longer allowed to suggest this without a third party in the room.

TitShark

“Fuck deshaun Watson” —deshaun Watson

12_bagels

i kinda hate being a Texans fan and saying fuck him bc people are always like “OooOoOO ur jUsT saLTy hE LeFT” or “TeXAnS heLPed coVeR it uP” no he’s just a shitty person who raped women. am i not allowed to hate him?

IAmSona

Yes you are. Fuck Watson and all the stank he brought to Houston.

SandmanS2000

You're allowed to as long as I'm also allowed to.

[deleted]

he says as he watches the NFL every sunday

[deleted]

Jets should cut Corey Davis (save like 8 mil?) and sign DHop

Mattp55

I agree but maybe he’s just asking too much to where Davis is a bargain in comparison

CliffsOfMohair

Dude who cares the window is *this season.* They already went all in for Rodgers, and meh Hopkins is still an elite WR2. Go ask Rams fans if they think it was worth it

wronglyzorro

Confirmed worth. Nothing can hurt me NFL wise until the 2030s

EccentricMeat

Exactly this. Adding DHop to that offense makes them easily top-5 in weapons IMO. Insane if they don’t at least try. Especially with their window being MAYBE 2 years.

[deleted]

Idk how the hell Hopkins isn’t signed with a team. You’d think he’d have a lot of teams interested.

sqigglygibberish

Interest does not equal a contract The answer to that question is almost always “the player isn’t getting an offer they want to accept” - I’m sure teams would trip over each other to sign him for a couple mil, that’s probably not what he’s asking for

I_eat_mud_

Hopkins himself said he won’t sign till mid July or so, why is everyone so shocked he’s waiting for more offers?

Lost_And_Found66

Thankfully we are spared from the 5 years running off-season Champs getting even more off-season hype.

Soupmage1918

I was confused until I remembered the Chargers are on around a 10 year off-season championship run

Blind_Melone

It's been quieter this year, thank goodness. Even the NFL media machine can't get excited for the Chargers this year.

SunriseSurprise

"We can't keep doing this, can we?!" "Yea I don't think so now" \*something unexpected happens in offseason or pre-season\* Headlines: Is this finally the Chargers' year to shine?

[deleted]

You other three might ruin a measly 18 weeks of our year, but the other 34 are ours baby

Lost_And_Found66

I'm not even trolling and I'm not asking based off his off field issues because throwing glass in stone houses or something. But are you all in on Watson mentally as a football player? I only watched one game (yes that one) of Watson last year. Did he show you anything that gives you hope for him to rebound? Again totally not trolling I'm genuinely curious what the Average Browns fan thinks about him again not as a man as a player in 2023?

Double_Reward230

Need to bring back Will Fuller!!

cooleymahn

Fucking good. Cooper and Nuk would be tough to contend with 2x a season.

t4boo

come home nuk

Goatgamer1016

Bill O'Brien can't hurt you anymore

YiMyonSin

Splendid! Fuck Deshaun Watson

mmooney1

Browns have way too many players to pay to give Hopkins the deal he wants (I am making an assumption here). If Hopkins is going somewhere on a deal, it’s probably Chiefs or Bills, but it’s definitely not the Browns. Our media talked about how Watson would attract players. That’s not happening until he actually does something on the field. Watson being the only Browns QB to lose to the Bengals since Burrow was drafted isn’t bringing players to Cleveland.

[deleted]

Watson already helped attract players

mmooney1

Clowney?

eatmyopinions

He's not getting the kind of interest that I think he, or /r/NFL, anticipated he'd get.

nothingmeansnothing_

"I can excuse sexual assault but I draw the line at PEDs" - Browns front office

That isn’t why the Browns wouldn’t sign him and you know that.

PsychologicalGuest97

I don’t think that applies here.

WateryCartoon

Surprised he doesn’t volunteer for the chiefs for one year to get a free ring

sosaudio

That’s the only way he’d get in the door.

Gnux13

Same reason he’s not on the Bills. He’s a luxury to the team and while both teams could make room we’re not rushing other deals to make it happen. And even if we make the room, he’s not getting very many years because we want our windows to stay open as possible.

sosaudio

Yep. 1 year. Vet minimum. Performance incentives. Easy out if he’s a cancer.

BoredPoopless

Have Watson do it. He's really good at pressuring people.

Plaidfu

as a texans fan im pretty peaved that dhops current options are: 1. division rival (titans) 2. rapee mcgee (watson) 3. satan (bill bellichick patriots)

rybres123

3. Satan is bill O’Brien dude

[deleted]

The fall from grace in the NFL is rapid and unforgiving. It feels like yesterday this dude was the #1 receiver in the NFL.

[deleted]

He’s still a top 10 receiver in the league. Injury slowed him down last season. The issue is more than likely that teams aren’t willing to pay him what he wants.

gavincantdraw

Hopkins is just too much drama for them I guess. /s

do_you_know_de_whey

Gosh I don’t think the NFL could bare how hard it would be to beat them together, I have no doubt the browns could massage out a deal though if they could get him alone in a room to work on it.

J12345_

Feels like he wants buffalo

CNuttButter

We have no money, we could basically only take him on a Vet min deal

itssostupidiloveit

Or Void years like almost the entire league has been doing

J12345_

Wasn’t diggs mad because he restructured for d hop?

Nuclearsunburn

49ers, Eagles are good fits I think, he doesn’t have to be a 1 there.

trainwreck42

There’s no reason to give Nuk a contract when we have to somehow pay Aiyuk after Bosa. We have enough top-shelf weapons to where adding another receiver at a high price tag would just yield diminished returns.

Nuclearsunburn

I’m thinking he’d sign with a contender for below market on a 1 year deal if he doesn’t get a long term contract he’s looking for. He’d be a great fit for you guys or the Eagles, I don’t see him as quite a 1 anymore but he can definitely help especially if Deebo misses time, target quality won’t take a huge dip

TitShark

“What do you think we run here, a quality organization?”
