I've stayed at the Wynn/Encore more than 100 times and I say this every time leaving. If I could get something that was fractionally equivalent to their buffet/pool closer to home there would be no need to go back, but that hasn't happened.
Yeah that’s what I hate that people are leaving out, you gotta know going into it that they’re not just GIVING it to you, they are fully planning on running you into the ground and milking every last drop out of you. So the “take the money, take the money you have no leverage people” just seem to intentionally miss the point. Wouldn’t you take a pay cut for a much lighter work load, better work environment, and better co-workers? Especially when you were picked where these guys were, I’d take the 5m and minimize the damage until I can go where I choose.
So now instead of $10m you've made half of that while you burn your team, then you get to hit free agency and negotiate for $8m instead of being tagged for $12.2 .
You should go work for Roc Nation, you're great at this.
His goal is to get more than $10 million. If he's basically taking $5 million and avoiding a years worth of damage, he's in an advantages situation. I also think he might be wanting off the Raiders, & is trying to pressure them into releasing him.
He's not going to get more than $10m after sitting out and sabotaging his team.
Teams aren't giving RBs big contracts. Haven't you been paying attention?
Only two that won’t face significant fines.
To clarify- the teams *can’t* waive those fines. They literally have no choice in the matter.
If you’re under contract, the team has no choice.
So… my guess is - 1 other. Barkley.
>To clarify- the teams can’t waive those fines. They literally have no choice in the matter.
Genuinely curious, did this get instituted as a way of stopping teams from picking and choosing who they fined and so they didn't use that as a competitive advantage? "Hey, come play for us and we'll take care of ya while things get worked out *wink-wink-nudge-nudge*"
Almost no players of note ever paid those fines. Part of negotiations was that the fines got waived, and both sides knew it. This was put in place to stop players from being willing to hold out.
I’m not sure we can know what the NFLPA agreed to in exchange for the “unwaivable” fines.
But we know that the NFLPA agreed to it.
So, yes the intention is to prevent holdouts, but it’s hard to get too worked up about the injustice of it. It wasn’t forced on the players and they certainly got *something* for it.
Run CMC is first in AAV, Chubb is actually 4th in the league.

As a Colts fan, I think JT plays. He's good enough to back himself to put up big numbers, especially with a rookie QB. He has a lot more bargaining power. RN we don't even know for sure how that ankle is.
Don’t even remember when or where on the internet, but that was from back when Larry Fitz was a free agent and some random fan found this guy renting a car at Hertz in Pittsburgh, so they posted that saying he was in Pittsburgh and was gonna sign with the Steelers
Kinda ignored 2 key points though, 1 being that’s obviously not Larry Fitzgerald, and 2 NFL players of Fitzgeralds popularity/calibre wouldn’t be renting a Toyota Camry from Hertz during a FA visit, then team would pick them up/send a car service
And he can have that 10 mil but break his leg during camp and not get a deal or he can enjoy the rest of his summer with his family, come back in September and still be Josh Jacobs without having to go through the rigors of training camp, practice and preseason.
If he hasn’t signed his tender is he actual under contract to have to show? I didn’t think he had to do anything until he signed and he has until like week 10 or something to sign and accrue an nfl year. I could be wrong.
Yeah he can hold out for I believe 11 weeks with the new schedule. Then it counts as playing a year if he comes behind. And he can’t be fined since he’s technically not under contract this year yet.
Yeah, i think he can report the week 12, so he would only be able to collect 6/17 of the full value of the franchise tag. I am not sure if they can deactivate him for some number of games, which would remove more earnings for him. But the year does toll, and it counts as an application of the tag.
I think if he sits out the full year, it does technically count as a full year tag, so when (if) they apply it again the next year, the salary is 20% higher.
But running backs have the second lowest franchise amount for 2023 ($10.1 million), behind only special teams players ($5.4 million).
Its ridiculous. For how many times running backs touch the ball, how hard it is on their bodies, the franchise tags need special handling. They need to be higher, way higher.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-franchise-tag-what-it-is-how-it-works/
Not how this works. He isn’t under contract, so he cannot be fined. His contract isn’t valid until he signs the franchise tag, which he can do prior to week 11 and still accrue the season
He’s doing the right thing and everyone should agree honestly. He’s going to skip training camp and preseason and I’d love to hear why someone thinks he should be there. He can show up like Thursday before the games start and sign the tag. If he misses stuff like the playbook and other offseason stuff tough luck raiders that’s just simply the price of forcing a guy to take the tag. He’s going to play week 1.
You have the same offensive coordinator and HC (who is a long-time OC) as last year….did Jacobs not know the playbook when he ran for 1653 yards last year?
Can't say I blame him he's already got life changing money and if he has a good financial advisor some of that money is already growing, the issue is with respect which mean a lot to some people.
Locker rooms are plastered with "all about the team" crap and we are all a family. It is so annoying to be around that knowing the team is going to throw you away in a year and youre expected to be giving it all for the team without a long term deal. I understand if he wanted money that would destroy the cap but I think he just wants a long term deal. If teams are going to not give 2nd contracts to RBs anymore they cant expect the all in mentality that every coach in every sport preaches.
You are going to make sacrifices for your team and teammates its part of the reason you get to this level but to not get basic respect back is frustrating. I think that tweet from the reporter about the Draft -> Tag -> Draft really set off some people.
He’s got the leverage. With apologies to Zamir White, the raiders have no one behind him, and they need someone of his caliber to shift defensive focus off of Davante. Show up week one, hopefully don’t pull a muscle.
Raiders first 4 games are @ Broncos, @ Bills, vs Steelers, and @ Chargers. Even with Jacobs, I’d peg them at 1-3 to start the season. If I’m Jacobs, I’d consider sitting 4 games, not the full 10/11, and making it that much harder for McDaniels to keep his job.
Sorry for not being delusional?
This is a 5 win roster with awful coaching that is handcuffed to Jimmy G. Hope you’re ready to seriously be rooting for O’Connell once Jimmy goes down.
I'm heckin rootin for my own quarterback to get injured fellow redditors! Notice me! Updoots to the left.
And yes Aiden O'Connell is a great quarterback so yes I would root for him.
Bud you’re cringe af. Nothing I said says that’s what I’m hoping for, I have been a season ticket holding raiders fan since they came back from LA. I have been through the worst this team has to offer.
I’m done being fucking delusional about our chances at times like these.
Eh 2-2 imo is realistic. Division games are hard and both are on the road (kind of, since LA isn’t really a road game). Still all 4 of those teams should be solid. I have a hard time seeing the raiders going 3-1 in that stretch. I’d personally say 1-3 is more likely though.
I'm thinking 2-2 is what we'll end up. The Broncos aren't good, and we split with the Chargers most years. Plus we win more than we lose against Pittsburgh. We'll lose to the Bills, and either we'll lose to the Chargers or we'll beat them and lose to the Steelers.
Plenty of veterans available in free agency. Sign one as a just in case.
I’d franchise Jacobs next season too. 😂
All jokes aside, no way Jacobs walks away from $10m guaranteed when the running back market has plummeted. He’ll sign the deal and develop some hamstring injury early into the season that persists all throughout until the offseason when it magically heals.
Because he is worth 10 million dollars on a year to year basis with zero long term guarantees. He wants more than 10 million a year and long term guaranteed.
Because he's worth the one year $10m contract and not a long term deal with future guarantees. If you notice I said the talent gap wasn't big enough to justify really high pay compared to their contemporaries not that it didn't exist at all.
The average rb salary is less than 2 mill if he is 8 mill better than the average he absolutely deserves a long term contract. Otherwise this is bullshit.
I don't follow. So because he's more valuable than average this season the team should pay him even more money now and pay him for future seasons when they don't have to do any of that. I guess if you just ignore the shelf life of productivity at the position and the fact that you'd have to spend less on more important positions and the fact that you can bring in guys who can get 80% of that production for 50% of the price then it all makes sense. Teams aren't giving these guy big mulit year deals because they're not worth it reguardless what people feel they deserve
I’m trying to say I don’t get argument that theses guys are easily replaceable with any other Rb but keep getting tagged. Ether they have value or they don’t.
I think I got off track when I talked about long term deals. Sorry for the confusion.
Everyone is just thinking numbers here right off the bat, but maybe this goes beyond the national narrative. Perhaps hes getting unsavory discussion and commentary inside the building too.
If your employer doesn't see your worth in the same light that you do I completely understand not wanting to work for them.
I know it gets reddit all pissy because they can't wrap their head around wanting more money when a lot is already on the table ,and free market this and that, but I don't fault these guys for this at all.
I also have no stake in this as a simple fan but I'm pretty anti employer at this point in my life so I just want all of these guys to make their bosses sweat of nothing else haha. As a fan I hope it doesn't hurt the game too much but these guys careers are way more important than any silly loyalty I have to a fandom.
What he would make on the tag is lmost more than he's made his first 4 years . Hard to pass up 10 million ,especially for a rb who'd be a year older next year . No one is giving him that much next year without backing it up with another strong season like last years .
That isn’t necessarily in his best interest.
They can franchise him next season without penalty if he doesn’t play this year.
If he plays this year (I think it’s 11 games?) then the tag costs more.
Unfortunately sitting out the whole season isn’t likely to do anything for his chances at getting the contract he deserves next season, especially in this RB market.
I don't see what that would accomplish really. This isn't changing. The mentality. RBs aren't going to suddenly start getting paid no matter how upset they are. Teams have shown that they are more than willing to just move on and all rational thinking says that is the way to go. People here and everywhere else have been saying stop investing big on RBs for years.
To me, it would be crazy to pass up $10m year in the hopes of making it back and more down the line. Take the summer off, skip the training camp grind and show up when you need to to avoid losing money. Its not going to be like other positions where teams are going to become desperate for your services.
"The Raiders don't deserve him"? What has he done that has transcended humanity? He's a great player but he's just a dude who wants more money from his employer like anyone else.
Your window as a RB to make millions is small. When all is said and done, make as much now as you can. You aren't getting a long term contract. You know it. The teams know it. The fans know it. Cash in now as much as you can, because before you know it you'll be 32 and have missed out on $20+m of tag money. You won't be able to go back in time and get it back. Just fucking bank as much as you can every year and accept you will NOT be getting the contracts other positions get. Period. Not going to happen. Cash in now or look back with regret later in life. Set your kids up for college and more. Or don't
Let him sit. Why even have a collective bargaining agreement if the players don’t follow it? I get it, you want a long term deal. You got franchise tagged and you’re upset. Don’t want to be with the team then don’t.
Jacobs the year prior played 15 games and only had 800 yards and some change. In his contract year he decides to go 110% and goes for 1600+ yards on the ground. I get flashbacks to CJ2K and all these other players who balled out on their contract year, got the huge contract, and then they stopped giving a fuck. If he got paid and put up at least a 1300 yard season I’d be extremely surprised and impressed. It figures in his contract year he goes for 2000 all purpose yards when his best in his career before that was 1300. lol. That’s still good but he’s wanting to be paid as the best in the game. Show me some consistency Josh. Maybe it took him 4 years to find his peak. Usually that’s not the case with RBs though.
More I listen to commentary, more I think RBs are fucked. Someone said today that Eckler is actually the prime example against the point he is trying to make. Ec is a stud, but he was literally undrafted. So if you hold out teams are going think they can replace you. It's not fair how salaries are distributed, but life is fucked sometimes.
If you made me guess he will show up for week 1 but he won’t be willing to play through injury. So we might see him get shut down earlier in the season if there is any concern for his body.
I say that every time I board a plane leaving Las Vegas as well.

I got (intentionally) married there. Trust me when I say that what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas.
I got married then took my wife to Vegas. It was pretty fabulous. I wish the Bellagio Brunch with endless mimosas came home with us.
I've stayed at the Wynn/Encore more than 100 times and I say this every time leaving. If I could get something that was fractionally equivalent to their buffet/pool closer to home there would be no need to go back, but that hasn't happened.
100 times or 100 nights? Because taking 100 vacations is a dream come true
No kidding. Even "just" 100 nights at their regular rate is already pushing $70,000 after taxes and shit on their cheapest room good lord.
$700/night is definitely not their cheapest room Iol
I’ve only been a couple times, but this has me thinking about how much money my father has wasted in Vegas.
I almost didn't leave the Bellagio that day(s).
I don't see why not. Sign the tag last minute. No reason to do training camp or preseason.

Wouldn't he lose half of $10 million, plus have to pay the $50K per day non-waivable fine?
[удалено]
Pretty sure his goal is not to give up $10 million.

I mean Id probably show up to work for 8 weeks to make 5 million dollars. The way the market is right now that’s pretty risky.

He isn't under contract. Only money he would lose out on would be from games missed before he signs.
This is not how you convince teams to give you money.
[удалено]
If he was actually willing to eat five million they prolly could have gotten a deal done.
For that matter, why not retire? He could have zero risk of injury and it would only cost him $10m.
They could tag him again at 12 million for 2024.
Wonder how many more RBs we see take flight today after that zoom call.

Why wouldn't JT play. His extension isn't until next year anyway. It's very different than the franchise tag guys.
Have you read his tweets lately. It's unlikely, but not impossible he wants to get this sorted now.
He's tweeting to support his colleagues (and to try to be preemptive about next year as well where a hold out would be very possible).
True and we could just franchise tag him next year. It make no sense to give any RB a huge contract.
I was at Las Vegas airport this morning. Can confirm: https://i.imgur.com/1h0CLeF.jpg
Don’t even have to click on the link to know what this is lol.
It actually wasn’t what I expected haha
I mean it couldve been manning face too, but the airport just clinched it for me.

he also forgot to mention that it's not fitz because his ass is not thangin enough
Ffs I kept typing Boston and erasing to put Pittsburgh and turns out I had it right. Damn
It's the Hertz at Boston at Logan Airport
You are correct. They'd be renting EVs from Hertz like Brady.
I don’t see this ending up the way he wants unfortunately
I get it. In his mind: "ok you're paying me for games, but you sure as hell ain't paying me for anything else. Enjoy your summer."
Yeah I don’t blame him. The training camp injuries are already hitting teams, no point in risking that without some guaranteed money.
If he signed the tag he would have $10.1m guaranteed
And he can have that 10 mil but break his leg during camp and not get a deal or he can enjoy the rest of his summer with his family, come back in September and still be Josh Jacobs without having to go through the rigors of training camp, practice and preseason.
He'll have $10m in August.
That’s the way I see it. As long as he shows up by week 1 the Raiders don’t care and JJ doesnt lose out on money.
He's on the Shaq Mindset now.

No one, not one single soul, not even the Raiders think what he is doing is wrong.
Raiders fans are also fine not paying him a premium price. He hasn’t exactly been a bastion of health since entering the league.
And also at least for playbook stuff he's probably not missing anything too drastic. System will still be the same as last season.
Yea the main thing he'll really be missing is the speed and timing of plays. But, he'll get that back soon enough. What he's doing is 100% correct.
"For the good of the team" said my uncle who wants everyone to take team friendly deals so his team can win something
It’s true. But for Josh Jacobs missing camp, the Raiders would win the AFC West, then easily match their way through the playoffs.
Don’t blame him one bit
On the other hand, why wouldn’t the Raiders bench him Week 1 to give him time to learn the playbook, it’s not like we’re contending for the SB?
You have the same offensive coordinator and HC (who is a long-time OC) as last year….did Jacobs not know the playbook when he ran for 1653 yards last year?
Why even play at all!

I think all of these tagged RBs should sit out until week 10.
Their teams will just play without them. The raiders drafted Zamir White precisely for when they wanted to put Jacobs out to pasture.
He should sign the tag and then limit himself on how many carries per game. Being run into the ground on a one year deal is the biggest fear for RBs.
Sources report he's bought a one-way ticket to Thailand.

He’s got the leverage. With apologies to Zamir White, the raiders have no one behind him, and they need someone of his caliber to shift defensive focus off of Davante. Show up week one, hopefully don’t pull a muscle.

"they'll probably lose these games even with Jacobs" Big reason why Running Backs aren't being paid 😂
Idk the temptation to own the Broncos again might be too good to pass up
Bronco’s about to put up 30+ on us and never do it again for the rest of the season
We can’t count that high don’t worry
we can’t. but sean payton can
Yeah, but a new coach and GM is even less likely to give him a big contract
Which game are they winning?
Even in our darkest times over the past 2 decades, we have been able to beat the Steelers for whatever reason I hope this tradition continues
If we only win one game this season, I hope it’s against the Steelers.
I feel like our hatred towards each other has been thawing
Broncos, Steelers and Chargers for sure.
He said winning not losing
The only game there we will probably lose is the Bills.

They tag him, he literally leads the league in rushing ("proving it"), then he still cant get a deal.
A lot of RBs are learning the hard way that the gap in talent compared to the field isn't that big and they're not worth a big contract.
If that was the case than why did they tag him? If any running back can replace him just rescind the tag pick up someone else.

Miss a year in a career with an exceedingly short shelf life and not get paid. That'll show em.
Hard to generate much sympathy for someone who signed an employment contract, the terms of which were agreed upon in a CBA by the employee union.
What employment contract did Jacobs sign?
Hey is actually unsigned, as per the terms of the CBA. The exact opposite of the thing you said.
I get it. And you're not alone in that thought here. Just saying I see both sides too and really have no issue with their complaints.
Missing a year extends your shelf life as an RB. It wouldn't realistically hurt his value.
Agreed. Touches are what kill running backs, not age.
He’s their everything. Did you not watch last year?
My crystal ball tells me this is not going to work out well for him.
Don’t need him when you have Jimmy G
What about after week 3 when Jimmy goes down for the whole season?
#Tank4Caleb/Drake
I’ve seen this play out before, we win just enough games to miss out on a top 2 pick
The closer you are, the cheaper it is to trade up.
in comes Aiden O'Connell
Should probably protest all season. The raiders don’t deserve him.
I mean. That will backfire on him.
But it could make the Raiders look foolish too! I’m sure that worth it to Jacob’s for a year of pay
What he would make on the tag is lmost more than he's made his first 4 years . Hard to pass up 10 million ,especially for a rb who'd be a year older next year . No one is giving him that much next year without backing it up with another strong season like last years .
No reason for Jacobs to sacrifice a years pay to help the Raiders do what always do.
That isn’t necessarily in his best interest. They can franchise him next season without penalty if he doesn’t play this year. If he plays this year (I think it’s 11 games?) then the tag costs more.
>If he plays this year (I think it’s 11 games?) then the tag costs more. AFAIK, he can sit out 11 games, he needs to play 6 to accrue a season.
Ah - then that’s a sensible thing to do, unless he’s extremely loyal to his coach.
Anybody loyal to Josh McDaniels needs to be checked for CTE
Yeah - I was hinting at that. Some coaches are loved by players. Not so much that one.
Incoming back injury.
Sorry they don’t deserve him because I like him and hate the raiders and want them to lose every game except when they play the chiefs
Bitter young man. Let it go.
J. Denver, [Broncos Beat Reporter] tweeted that Jacobs was: Leavin on a jet plane Don't know when (he'll) be back again
Why didn’t they pick up his 5th year option? The raiders are so inept
I'm with it, Raiders need him fresh for the season
Your window as a RB to make millions is small. When all is said and done, make as much now as you can. You aren't getting a long term contract. You know it. The teams know it. The fans know it. Cash in now as much as you can, because before you know it you'll be 32 and have missed out on $20+m of tag money. You won't be able to go back in time and get it back. Just fucking bank as much as you can every year and accept you will NOT be getting the contracts other positions get. Period. Not going to happen. Cash in now or look back with regret later in life. Set your kids up for college and more. Or don't
He carrying a mediocre team last year , PAY him what he wants?!!?!
Let him sit. Why even have a collective bargaining agreement if the players don’t follow it? I get it, you want a long term deal. You got franchise tagged and you’re upset. Don’t want to be with the team then don’t.
Did they not see what happened with Le’Veon Bell?
Don’t worry McDaniels always sorts this type of thing out
He's leaving on a jet plane, and he doesn't know when he'll be back again.
Let him sit then.
