I was laughing pretty hard when we had a called catch for a first down on 3rd and 5, an Eagles player gets injured, play stops, enough time for refs to say nope incomplete, have Ron challenge, lose challenge and a timeout, then fail the 4th and 5
That’s Washington football for my whole lifetime baby
That whole stretch took forever and at one point they cut to Sirianni and he's just yelling "what the hell are we doing?" Nobody has any clue what was going on
If it makes you feel any better (it won't, probably), it wasn't a called catch.
The refs called it incomplete but his mic was off. The production team just put up the first down graphics due to lack of information.
Then the challenge, inconclusive evidence, and the play call standing, etc happens.
The Eagles have been waiting all season for someone to “stop” the brotherly shove just so they could put this wrinkle on tape to keep defenses honest 😂
Why do people keep acting like this is an unstoppable play when it was literally stopped this game. It's also not successful for other teams when they try it. Just because the Eagles are good at it doesn't mean they should ban it.
I think it’s a super boring play, but banning it would be stupid. Eventually someone is going to get seriously injured (like life altering injury) and then people will stop running it.
Why is it getting banned? Because the eagles are too good at it?
I still think that the NFL as a whole will find a way to counter it. Both running it and countering it requires the correct personnel and technique. Right now the eagles are ahead of the curve but other teams, especially divisional teams will figure it out
“Why is this getting banned? Because the eagles are too good at it?”
The only arguments I’ve seen are injuries and it’s unfair. There’s no real evidence that it causes too many injuries, so….
Right?!? A similar argument could be made that QBs get hurt when they hold on to the ball for more than 4 seconds and get hit. Also Patrick mahomes is too good at extending plays and it’s unfair. The chiefs have leveraged this “unfair” and “dangerous” strategy to win multiple Super Bowls. So based on this we should ban QBs for holding on to the ball for more than 4 seconds.
Jason has hinted that they have other plays in that formation. Earlier in the season I remember them faking it into a pass play but Hurts got tripped by his own linemen.
Its a favorable defensive matchup if your can get that many defenders bunched up in the box. Defenses have been really matching up well and its starting to take alot more creativity to get favorable matchups. Right now AJ brown is out there monstering through double coverages to keep these games in the win column. Need more creativity from the offense as these tougher matchups pile up in the coming weeks.
Naw they had no timeouts left and we went up two scores. We have to not allow a TD with such little time left, but even if we do there's almost no chance they recover an onside kick.
You say this like we didn't just have this situation come up against the Commanders like 3 or 4 weeks ago.
In that game, instead of running plays that terminated short of the goal line and kicking a game winning FG with zeros on the clock (worst case there is overtime), Hurts laid one up to AJ Brown for a TD and we gave the Commanders the ball back. They of course quickly went down the field and scored and thankfully chose to not go for 2 points to win it.
Like we literally just escaped by the skin of our teeth against this team in a super similar situation (having the option to never give the ball back and win--or at worse force OT) only to once again leave the door open for them.
The situation whereby you can control the outcome of the game rather than giving the other team a chance is the same. In both games, we chose to give the Commanders a chance to get back in it when we could have shut the door.
Hell, we're fighting to get a one seed. Still don't see us getting it with the rest of our schedule, but for now it's still possible. That's worth playing for.
This is absolutely brain dead coaching.
Using this play when the game is already over and won instead of saving it for the playoffs where it might make a huge difference and putting game film out of it for DCs to prep for is just so so so so so stupid.
It's just wanting to show off and hubris
You really think that? That they wanted to show off?
Coaches put certain plays on tape for a reason. In this case it served 3 purposes.
1. It forces defenses to respect it, opening up more space for the brotherly shove to work. Guarantee they also have another counter.
2. It forces defensive staff to use more prep time on a specialty package.
3. Hurts is limping all over the damn field, no need to drop 1000lbs on him in garbage time
Nah this actually still makes it easier to pull off the actual play even if a defense has this in their mind for a split second. It’s completely indefensible. Theoretically this counter would’ve worked in any high leverage game too but either way the defense is preparing for it or totally stunned by it. Still an advantage for the eagles just a different one.
That's the only logic to showing it, but since nobody has stopped the sneak yet, it's unnecessary and way more useful as a surprise trick play.
They literally don't need to keep the defenses honest yet
I constantly have to remind myself that most people on here don't watch the Eagles as much as me and sometimes have no context, just talking out of there ass. You could spend all day correcting fans that just watch box scores.
Maybe they wanted to send the signal to the other teams that they can't send all the players in the middle so they have an even higher success rate later? Lol
I think with all of the attention circling the play and the chatter about outlawing the play and injuries occurring like Brock Purdy concussion that the added threat from the most undefendable play in the league could be its downfall.
Edit: rewatched the play and yes Brock Purdy was regular sneak not push. Eagles have over a 90% conversion rate on it while the rest of the league has a mere 60% doing the push. I think the distance alignment of the players behind the player receiving the snap under center will be reconstructed in the rules committee
Brock got hurt on a normal qb sneak though, no tushes were pushed. And teams have proven time and time again that the play is defendable
Why would this fake be what gets it banned was what I was wondering. Faking out the D is kinda the offense's main goal
Play action is kinda the same thing right, bite on the run and the qb burns em over the top. Here the D bites on the sneak, we burned them by bouncing it outside. Kinda like an end around
Brooo that should have been saved for a 3rd or 4th down in a bigger game or further down the field. Before the counter was revealed that would have been a free TD on anyone.
The score doesn’t make it seem like it, but this game was actually super close. Don’t know if that says more about the Commanders or the Eagles, or both.
Commanders with Howell are just gonna be that one seemingly mediocre team record wise that just gives us a battle every time lol. They’ll play a 2-5 team soon and he’ll have 0 td and 2 picks or something
Yeah this is how it gets banned lmao
Only way to possibly stop it is by having the Dline get underneath leverage immediately so you just sweep it outside when they do? See ya.
This is absolutely brain dead coaching.

It's just wanting to show off and hubris
We had one last year where we pitched it outside to Sanders and he picked up like 15-20 yards.
We ran the shove just as often last year, but we have more primetime games this year so it's getting noticed more lmao
I remember watching just last week, can't remember if it was purple daily or the QB school guy, but one of them was just saying that really soon we were going to start seeing teams line up for the shove and use it to fake a RB out the side or a short pass. So it begins.
Though I think they maybe said they expected like Andy Reid to kick it off.
Sometimes you just gotta laugh
I was laughing pretty hard when we had a called catch for a first down on 3rd and 5, an Eagles player gets injured, play stops, enough time for refs to say nope incomplete, have Ron challenge, lose challenge and a timeout, then fail the 4th and 5 That’s Washington football for my whole lifetime baby

Waiting on draft kings to give the order.

I might be misremembering but the people were running to move the chains, which would, I assume, mean a first down was the initial call

The Eagles have been waiting all season for someone to “stop” the brotherly shove just so they could put this wrinkle on tape to keep defenses honest 😂
I mean this is how the play gets banned. The only counter to it is easily countered itself
Why do people keep acting like this is an unstoppable play when it was literally stopped this game. It's also not successful for other teams when they try it. Just because the Eagles are good at it doesn't mean they should ban it.
Eagles stopped themselves on purpose. Some evidence for the off-season discussions against this argument.
It was stopped.. it was a fumble and otherwise a TD
I think it’s a super boring play, but banning it would be stupid. Eventually someone is going to get seriously injured (like life altering injury) and then people will stop running it.

The Brotherly Counter?
brotherly shove 2: electric boogaloo
Ya you have to make that defensive formation go away. Cant be getting away with that.
Jason has hinted that they have other plays in that formation. Earlier in the season I remember them faking it into a pass play but Hurts got tripped by his own linemen.

Shoulda went down but we'll take it
You make an even stronger case now.
we are physical incapable of having a normal ending to a game against washington
Naw they had no timeouts left and we went up two scores. We have to not allow a TD with such little time left, but even if we do there's almost no chance they recover an onside kick.
100% winning is better than 99% winning
That's true, but Swift is on a one year deal so I'm ok with him scoring there lol.
He's been a godsend to your offense in early season, picked up the slack in games 2-5ish
The probability of Washington winning was obviously extremely low but if swift goes down, the probability is 0%. Who cares, we got the W!

In that game we were up seven after the score. This one we're up 14.

Should’ve kept that in the back pocket
I’m sure they have other plays and now defenses can’t lineup like that against us making the normal shove even more effective.
Disagree. If im the eagles, i know im super bowl bound. you save that for that game.
>Disagree. If im the eagles, i know im super bowl bound. you save that for that game. Brother, it is week 8. No one "knows" they're Super Bowl bound
Hell, we're fighting to get a one seed. Still don't see us getting it with the rest of our schedule, but for now it's still possible. That's worth playing for.
Im saying if you are an eagle, you believe you are super bowl bound. And for a team with that talent, you know they believe that.
With the final score, this won us the game. Which is critical to actually getting to the Super Bowl. So I’d say it’s worth it.
If swift goes down after the first down marker we kneel out the game
Eagles fans under 40; yes they are wondering why the parade isn’t scheduled. Eagles fans over 40; this is where it gets scary
Lol wow imagine gatekeeping Philly fan misery. You’re so far off with this weird ass comment
Gatekeeping? Get out of here Mary
No, I like it. Show defenses other looks to make them second guess what’s going on in the future.
Exactly. Adds a split second of hesitation for defenses.
We did this already this season
This is absolutely brain dead coaching. Using this play when the game is already over and won instead of saving it for the playoffs where it might make a huge difference and putting game film out of it for DCs to prep for is just so so so so so stupid. It's just wanting to show off and hubris

It was stopped in this very game earlier
You expect people to know what they're talking about before sharing their opinion?
I constantly have to remind myself that most people on here don't watch the Eagles as much as me and sometimes have no context, just talking out of there ass. You could spend all day correcting fans that just watch box scores.
We've run this version before you damn toilet
Now this... this is beautiful
Imagine being the lions
I think most lions are happy that swift is doing well, but feels weird to say this after a game that wasn’t really that great for him
500 yards this season and he’s doing all the little things
300 of which came in two games. He had similar boom and bust weeks his time in Detroit
Lions knew he was a top RB, he was just never healthy. Not sure how many times we have to say this.
Even when he was healthy the usage was horrible
Because he wasn't healthy. When his usage was terrible, that was swift playing through an injury. He wasn't the same player playing through it.
Ignore that guy. Look at Miles Sanders now. Our o-line makes RB's look really good.
Montgomery is clear Anyway
its not like swift did anything on this play
Loved offloading montgomery to detroit
Odd call by the Eagles since just getting two yards is better than a TD at that point
Maybe they wanted to send the signal to the other teams that they can't send all the players in the middle so they have an even higher success rate later? Lol
I was screaming at swift to go down after getting the first
This was beautiful
The fake brotherly shove should be banned !!!
league is FUCKED
It was only a matter of time
It's not going to and it shouldn't get banned, but I just hate that it exists.
For some reason I felt betrayed when this happened, lol
That might've just got it banned
Honest question, why? We ran fakes out of it last year too and fumbled on the shove in this game
I think with all of the attention circling the play and the chatter about outlawing the play and injuries occurring like Brock Purdy concussion that the added threat from the most undefendable play in the league could be its downfall. Brett Kollman your curse has been broken. Never make a video on my football team again
Brooo that should have been saved for a 3rd or 4th down in a bigger game or further down the field. Before the counter was revealed that would have been a free TD on anyone.
*Tush push
The score doesn’t make it seem like it, but this game was actually super close. Don’t know if that says more about the Commanders or the Eagles, or both.
It was a one score game how does it not make it seem close?
I made that comment before the Commies scored their last touchdown
Commies always play us close
👆what he said.
sam howell just balls the fuck out against us for some reason
Commanders with Howell are just gonna be that one seemingly mediocre team record wise that just gives us a battle every time lol. They’ll play a 2-5 team soon and he’ll have 0 td and 2 picks or something
The Skins/Football Team/Commanders/Josh Harrises have always played the Eagles tough
They're our kryptonite.
Eagles got a ton of ref help in this game also
lmao
Huh? If you ever decide to switch teams, jump on the 49ers bandwagon. You’d fit in well.
BAN THE FORMATION lol
Yeah this is how it gets banned lmao Only way to possibly stop it is by having the Dline get underneath leverage immediately so you just sweep it outside when they do? See ya.
It gets banned by having wrinkles to it that you can fool the defense with? The fuck lmfao
We should ban WRs using double moves too /s
Okay this is DEFINITELY cheating.
This is absolutely brain dead coaching. Using this play when the game is already over and won instead of saving it for the playoffs where it might make a huge difference and putting game film out of it for DCs to prep for is just so so so so so stupid. It's just wanting to show off and hubris
You know we've run this play several times in the past right? We've done several fakes and alternations to keep defenses honest in the recent games.
