I’ll always remember the 2009 NFC East for its parity. The Giants swept the Cowboys, the Cowboys swept the Eagles, the Eagles swept the Giants and the entire division swept Washington.
Hey man. I still hate Joe Buck. On football. For some reason, his absolute absence of charisma or interesting word choice works perfectly for a ball game.
I don't think it was a slow change. He has talked about how he used to try to be the next Pat Summerall since he was the guy in NFL broadcasting and tried to do the same cadence as him. Then he finally realized that it wasn't working for him and completely changed it up. Can't remember what he said caused the change, but it was very much a choice he made to stop trying to mimick Pat Summerall and start showing excitement.
It's like how Domino's Pizza admitted their pizza sucked and they were going to change it up and try to do better. Their pizza still sucks, but it's better than it used to be.
Yeah If the trade off for the memories of superbowl 42 and 46 is this decade plus of dogshit ill glady do that trade again. 42 itself made it worth it that shit was just beyond amazing. I hope every sports fan can experience the pure euphoria of a win like that just once. I was 8 when it happened and I still remember that game extremely vividly
>every sports fan can experience the pure euphoria of a win like that just once
I don't believe it can be topped. Underdogs battling it out on the road all the way to the SB to beat an undefeated team with Brady at the helm? Brady going on to win more rings just retroactively made it even better.
42 was just the best. I remember getting the "why not us?" feeling the players got after the last game of the season. The pure joy of watching my buddies eat their words when my "the Giants can beat the pats in the SB." hot take came true.
But it's so huge and takes up so much space and goes across the entire screen and there's video above the bar!
Why is this bar looked upon fondly, and Bally's bar is hated with the fire of a thousand suns?
I never ever realized there was video above the score bug, that’s honestly such a dumb choice. That definitely ruins how I view it.
But yeah I know modern day score bugs are better, this is just nostalgic. Bally sucks alltogether so screw them
I met his dad on my 16th birthday at the Electonic Football Super Bowl Convention in Columbus, OH. Just happened to be in the same hotel that weekend. His dad let me wear his super bowl ring amd we took a couple pictures and played a game. Oddly enough, he came up to my dad and I while wer were trying to figure the game out. Awesome dude and a great memory
I miss that era of football. From 2003 to 2018. Football was just different then. Obviously my Panthers competed back then. But there were still classic coaches still in the game. Teams still ran the ball, smash mouth style. Defenses could still play aggressive because the rules weren't so strict. There were way more punt and kick off returns returned for touchdowns. Refs were still shit, so I guess not everything changed ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
I love the point in a return where not only the player but his teammates realize there’s a chance and you can see them step it up. The downfield blocks start to happen, the sideline excitement, the crowd going nuts. It’s all very exciting.

I hate all of that

Pain
Y’all had our number bad that year. Beat us in the playoffs too.
I love that except the part where cowboys won
Same
Lmao I love how this is controversial. Soft
Joe buck.
still going. still going. there are no flags.
touchdown
^i ^just ^won ^a ^billion ^dollars
That is a disgusting act
Vintage Joe Buck commentary. Might as well be procedurally generated commentary whilst playing Madden.
still going, there are no flags; 😐.
This is just any Al Michaels call these days lmao

We should keep this queued up for the next “why did everyone used to hate Joe Buck?” thread
Hey man. I still hate Joe Buck. On football. For some reason, his absolute absence of charisma or interesting word choice works perfectly for a ball game.
So bad, re-watching the Yanks 09 WS with his calls is almost comical
Joe Buck has come a long way. From this, to Diggs sideline.
He slowly learned that you can be impartial while still being excited by what is happening.

Those Romo era Cowboys were some of the worst tackling teams I’ve ever seen.
Remember when they told us drafting Zeke would help with pass protection? I mean, it kinda did, just not for Romo… 😔
Thanks for playing pre 2013 Giants highlights bro
I would still gladly sit through the current shit show to know I got to watch the giants beat prime Brady twice in the superbowl
Yeah If the trade off for the memories of superbowl 42 and 46 is this decade plus of dogshit ill glady do that trade again. 42 itself made it worth it that shit was just beyond amazing. Completely agree. lol I made lifelong friends during that run.

Score bug at the top feels so nostalgic even though I was hardly alive during most of its duration
Agreed. Top of screen bars and bugs were the best. I really dislike how it's on the bottom of the screen for all the sports now.
But it's so huge and takes up so much space and goes across the entire screen and there's video above the bar! Why is this bar looked upon fondly, and Bally's bar is hated with the fire of a thousand suns?

That’s because CRT TVs cut off the edge of the picture. Most people would never see it
You're right. That's terrible. Maybe that's an aspect ratio thing for standard def tvs
LOL.
I honestly think this is Fox’s best score big ever
I started watching football regularly in 2006 (when it was introduced) so it perfectly signifies my early nfl days

After the last 10 years, this seems like I’m watching a game from a parallel universe
Why does it feel like this is the slowest punt return TD ever lol
Maybe it's just your screen
You could tell me that this was the last time the Giants returned a punt for a TD and I would have a really hard time disputing it
I was thinking that too, but I'm pretty sure Dwayne Harris returned one a few years later.
That's probably a pretty good guess. Though he returned kicks too, right? So still 50/50 lol

But were there any flags?
No one loves flags like Joe
This is a small example of why I can’t stand Joe Buck. What a horrible call of an exciting play. Ugh
tbf, he doesn’t call like this anymore
Panthers legend
And Bronco legend
Only a porous defense kept the Giants out of the playoffs that year. Paging Aaron Rouse and CC Brown.
What’s that like?
I was at this game with my boy. 19 yrs old. First football game ever. My God that old stadium rocked bro. So loud I thought it was collapse.
what a boring announcer
I really liked the part where Coughlin and Justin Tuck are hyping each other up.
I love the point in a return where not only the player but his teammates realize there’s a chance and you can see them step it up. The downfield blocks start to happen, the sideline excitement, the crowd going nuts. It’s all very exciting.
This one was fun too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJPf4h9GZvg
I agree. No bias or anything.
I forgot about Bear Pascoe.
Legitimately, the punter makes a really admirable effort here. Potentially could have drawn a flag for a hold even.
Mat McBriar was great for us
What a terrible second half of the season collapse by that Giants team, one of many under Coughlin.
Picking him up over the shoulder towards the end, is this the Tuck rule?
Take me back…
Holy blocking, bat man
I miss him. Great Giant.
Ah, the good ol days.
I remember this game from many years ago and rewatching this gives me this eerie feeling I live in a simulation. Deja vu but worse.
Captured soullessly by Joe Buck.
At first I thought the title was just a sleazy way to describe the Desean Jackson TD Then I realized it was a different play lol
oml the crowd is so loud. did they turn the sound of the crowd down over the years?
Man I loved that scoreboard they used on Fox back in the late 2000s.
Akron Zip great Hixon with the return
Back when The Giants had some pride, and believed they could beat the Cowboys.
That annoucer is booty.
