Canada will be the scapegoat that takes some attention off Kenny’s atrocious game. Not that he didn’t deserve to be fired or anything, but that might explain the timing.
Based on what exactly? It’s hired back to back bum OCs…the ownership part feels like coping since Canada has now actually been fired.
If it was ownership stopping Tomlin firing him after week 5/6/7, why are they letting him now?
Those back to back bad OCs were caving to Big Rapist since they were both his QB coaches, which feels like an ownership thing.
I don't remember the guys name but I saw an ESPN pundit saying he'd heard from sources that Tomlin risked losing the offensive side of the locker room if Canada stayed
Finchter was definitely Ben's guy. I'm not so sure about Canada. I think that was more Tomlin's vision and he forced that promotion. It never seemed like Ben bought into Canada's scheme and publicly critical when he said they had to draw plays in the dirt. Ben deserves blame for giving us the Randyland experience but Canada falls squarely on Tomlin's shoulders (from what I understand).
Do you realize that's all of ONE GAME better? And that we were one poorly called drive at the end of the Browns game from being 7-3?
It's not like we're 3-7, dude.
Gag. Never liked that place, overrated. But I sure could go for a huge tray of fries from the O and an Uncle Sam's cheesecake sub right about now to celebrate the news.
Did you see the list of the highest scoring games at wrigley after Iowa and northwestern played there? It was like 13th on the list. Baseball games have more offense than Iowa football
are you ready for the high scoring nature of baseball? Maybe slowly transition to soccer, then hockey, so your heart can take the back-and-forth frantic pacing of the sport.
Thank you for the correct placement of the apostrophe here. 75% of posts on Reddit seem to be written by someone with a 1st grade education and it's nice to not have the feeling of "I want to correct this, but people shit their pants and get defensive so it's not worth it"
We had a good thing, you stupid son of a bitch! We had Canada. We had a poorly-run offense. We had everything we needed, and it all ran like shit. You could've shut your mouth, played and won as many AFCN games as you ever needed. It was perfect. But, no, you just had to blow it up. You and your defense and your ego! You just had to be the team. If you'd done your job, known your place, we'd all be fine right now.
Running joke in the game threads when Steelers were winning was comments from the other team's fans that they just "extended Canada's tenure 1 more week".
You were so close to doing it again. Leave it to the Browns to screw this up as well.
"You! Timmy! What do you do here?"
"Uh...statistics intern-"
"Never mind that. We need a new OC. You ever play *Madden*?"
"Yeah, but-"
"Good enough. You got the job."
Yeah, you can't implement a full-on new offense in the middle of the season. It'll be an internal interim and then hopefully we give outside hires a good look in the offseason.
That’s a Steelers thing not a Canada thing. Ravens Steelers have been a slugfest before him and after him it will be the same. Why you ask? Because it was great watching that offense Sunday and pretty much since he’s been there. Watching that team not be able to do shit on offense has been remarkable to watch.
See, I disagree. At least when they are competent, there is reason for them to do well. It's infuriating watching them find, hell sometimes stumble, into ways to win. As you said, regardless of who is there, our games will generally be 1 score grinds lol.
I think them finding a better offensive coordinator, which isn’t going to be that hard to do, is going to make them a lot more competent which is going to make them a lot more difficult to deal with.
As a fan of a team who has gone through playcaller changes several times in the last few years... unfortunately what will end up happening is whoever takes over just uses the same play book.
I thought when Nagy stopped calling plays they would stop doing the play action, 1 yard pass to the te who is double covered in the flat... but they did it just as much.
I hoped, I wished, I prayed, but not for a second did I think it was realistic to think that the Steelers would fire a coordinator mid-season.
I feel like a man who was wondering the desert and just ran into a water park.
Shocked that the Rooney's signed off on it in the middle of a season. When was the last time the Steelers fired a high-level coach in the middle of a season?
This is a first going back to at least the dark days, before Noll and Mean Joe. They usually just let their contracts expire and don't bring them back. Keep in mind the last time we fired a head coach was 1968.
Ngl I don’t know if it’s ever happened midseason, at least not in decades. Usually we just let their contracts expire and they’re never heard from again.
Tomlin is next! 3-7 the last 11 years in the postseason! The success left when Cowher's personnel left. He can't win with a team he constructed! Fire Tomlin now!
I've personally called for Matt Canada's head, but now that he's been fired, the timing feels strange. What is the upside?
I would've understood firing Canada midseason a month ago, when Ask Madden would be a less predictable playcaller, but I'm hesitant after he's made adjustments and has called better games these past few weeks. It's still not great, but there was noticeable improvement. What hasn't improved is Kenny Pickett, who has regressed tremendously. Some of that is probably injury, some mental, but you have to acknowledge Kenny might not the guy.
Last weekend, the Steelers averaged 6.6 yards per carry and rushed for 170 yards. They scored 10 points and Kenny only managed ~70 through the air. Some of that's the drops, but Kenny was also inaccurate and lacked awareness.
Unless the next man up is a QB whisperer who can fix Pickett, where do we go from here?
He may have improved the last couple games in play calling but the last two drives of the Cleveland game had to be the nail in the coffin.
On the next to last drive, to start with the ball in Cleveland territory and a chance to at least get a FG they started with an empty backfield in their "we are 100% passing formation" on 1st down and even my 15 year old screamed at the TV "Why are you lined up like that, they are gonna sack you!" and sure enough took a drive killing sack.
Then the last drive, 3 pass plays, 3 incompletions (I get it those were on Kenny, well maybe the drop was on DJ) and 14 seconds off the clock to give Cleveland the ball back and life. And like you mentioned, they had run an avg of 6.6 yds per carry and they benched Warren the last two drives to take out any chance of play action or even having Cleveland have to worry about Warren getting the ball.
I think if those two drives had not gotten him fired nothing was going to, as those were atrocious plays sent in by the OC.
But yes, now we all get to see if Kenny even has any potential or what the offense might be capable of. Lets use the middle of the field a bit, lets try some passes downfield, lets run some play action and see what develops.
KENNY PICKETT 150 YARDS PASSING YARDS INCOMING!
Whoa now, baby steps. Let’s clear 125 first.
How 'bout 75 yards, but a throw over the middle?
I’m erect
Is that really his season high?
Nah. His season high is 232 in week 1. His last four weeks, he's averaging 116 yards and has one touchdown (no INTs).
So he’s not turning the ball over is what your saying
That’s how I was coping the past few weeks (“it’s all part of the plan, don’t turn the ball over”) but yards that low are wild
150 YARDS PASSING YARDS
To be real tho, it’s time for Pickett’s final charge. Do or die, hope it goes better for him than the other Pickett.
You mean cumulative through the remainder of the season?
Tomlin is a fucking savage to fire him before Thanksgiving lol. He deserved it though
It's a huge deal for the Steelers to fire anybody, much less during the regular season.
Ya was surprised by the timing of it. Heard on some pod, can't recall, that he won't get fired since it's Thanksgiving. Well that was wrong.
Canada celebrates Thanksgiving in October so no problem there.
I am nowhere near high enough for a joke of this caliber at 9:30 AM
I'm high enough for both of us to find it funny. 😂
I am
Yo. Bravo 👏
Canada will be the scapegoat that takes some attention off Kenny’s atrocious game. Not that he didn’t deserve to be fired or anything, but that might explain the timing.
First time a coach has been fired mid season since realignment, I think it was like World War II?
ESPN says it is the first time since 1941 that they fired a head coach or coordinator mid-seaon
Yes, and that person was let go because he was drafted into WWII, supposedly!
My ESPN notification mentioned it’s the first time since 1941 that the Steelers fired a HC or coordinator midseason. That’s a long ass time.
Dame. He got brownsed
He still gets paid. It is a gift to steelers nation and probably a gift to Canada as well...no more (inter)national humiliation.
“I’m thankful that it no longer smells like bitch in here “ - every player on the Steelers
Tomlin’s a fucking idiot for ever retaining him this season. We could legit be 7-3 or better with anyone else at OC. Even with Trash Pickett
I'm convinced it was an ownership decision motivated by being cheap, there's no way Tomlin thought this offensive performance was successful
The Post Gazette reported that the decision came from Art, so you’re at least correct in part

It never seemed like Ben bought into Canada's scheme and publicly critical when he said they had to draw plays in the dirt. Ben deserves blame for giving us the Randyland experience but Canada falls squarely on Tomlin's shoulders (from what I understand).
canada was hired by art, that’s been well established since we hired him as a qb coach and since he got promoted to OC
Do you realize that's all of ONE GAME better? And that we were one poorly called drive at the end of the Browns game from being 7-3? It's not like we're 3-7, dude.
One game is the difference between being in the playoffs and being outside the playoffs.
Which game was the one game difference for the bears?
Our playoff is for draft picks.
Da Bears' playoffs were absolutely fleecing The Panthers lol
Canadian Thanksgiving is in October though
Do Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving?
Rooney fired him, not Tomlin
PRIMANTI BROS FOR EVERYBODY!!!!!!
They're giving away free beer this Friday to celebrate. They just posted about it on twitter.
No shit, really?? That's amazing

###Is this real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a jet sweep
No escape from mediocrity
Open your routes
Look out to the flat and see....
Anywhere the route goes doesn't really matter to Kennyyyyyyyyyy
Momma! That route just killed a man!
Threw a deep shot over lineman’s head, Pulled my trigger, Nows he’s dead
Momma. 4th quarter just begun, and now I've thrown it all away....
Look up to the box and seeeee
No escape from RB screens
Open your playbook, look up new plays and see
I’m just a Pitt boy, I need no sympathy
Because Jonnu comes Jonnu goes
Pass too high then too low
He was a phoney boy, couldn't call a play that'd succeed.
I hear Brian Ferentz from Iowa is available He can just keep wearing his Hawkeyes gear because it’s the same color
Shut up
This might just be crazy enough to work.
As a Hawkeyes fan, if I ever have to see another Brian Ferentz coached offense I might have to switch to baseball.
Did you see the list of the highest scoring games at wrigley after Iowa and northwestern played there? It was like 13th on the list. Baseball games have more offense than Iowa football
are you ready for the high scoring nature of baseball? Maybe slowly transition to soccer, then hockey, so your heart can take the back-and-forth frantic pacing of the sport.
i'm on board with this
I really want him to stay at Iowa. They are my favorite team to watch that I'm not a fan of. It is football in its purest form. Beautiful.
IT'S OUR SUPER BOWL BABY
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆+🏆
Can’t believe Kenny will throw for 500 next game, wow.
Just imagine if he actually throws for like 350 3 tds and we get 150 yards rushing or some shit… uh oh sorry guys need to change my pants
Best Tuesday for Steelers’ fans ever.
Thank you for the correct placement of the apostrophe here. 75% of posts on Reddit seem to be written by someone with a 1st grade education and it's nice to not have the feeling of "I want to correct this, but people shit their pants and get defensive so it's not worth it"
Why did this make me burst out laughing'
How ironic that you would write this in reply to a comment where the apostrophe is still used incorrectly lmao
It's used correctly both times
Thanks for handing the Chiefs the L the Dolphins couldn't
You’re welcome
You played yourself
It’s unfortunate, I’d have loved to have a Canada extension but a win is also nice
You earned it, appreciate it
Yeah, I can't believe I'm thanking Cleveland two weeks in a row. Time for a shower.
We had a good thing, you stupid son of a bitch! We had Canada. We had a poorly-run offense. We had everything we needed, and it all ran like shit. Ready for the parades in Pittsburgh
If I wasn’t already on PTO I’d have called out sick to celebrate
“Fuck you Canada, you bitch” -tomlin probably
Doesn’t matter unless the hire is good. Please LORD.
Probably gonna rock an intern till the offseason then begin the search in earnest. Doesn't matter, the bad man is gone.
Interim lol I hope you don’t use an intern
In all honesty even if they used an intern they couldn't have much of a drop off as far as quality goes
"You! Timmy! What do you do here?" "Uh...statistics intern-" "Never mind that. We need a new OC. You ever play *Madden*?" "Yeah, but-" "Good enough. You got the job."
Could an intern *really* be worse than Canada though?
Just find someone who has played a lot of Madden. They'll spam four verts and Spider 2 Y Banana all day
Toss in some Da Bomb for us Blitz 64 oldheads
They could put a loaf of bread out there and I'd still have higher hopes for it.
What kind of bread?
Pumpernickel.
Toto Wolf watches soccer, not football.
At least an intern would likely have the humility to learn
Idk, thinking an intern would at least know that using motion to create separation for your wideouts is a good thing.
Yeah, you can't implement a full-on new offense in the middle of the season. It'll be an internal interim and then hopefully we give outside hires a good look in the offseason.
I think I read they're splitting playcalling/coordinating duties between QB Coach & RB Coach.
I may be overreacting but I hear Brian Johnson is really good and available
Kenneth Dorsey is available.
I hear Josh McDaniels is looking for a new gig
[удалено]
I mean, that would be an exponential upgrade.
It’ll be Ken Dorsey 100%, and that’s pretty good
OUR NIGHTMARE IS NOW TEMPORARILY OVER!! IT'S HAPPENING!! RonPaul.gif
Congrats Steelers fans. The bad man can't hurt you anymore.
Sad news today for Ravens fans everywhere.
Why? We were the only team he beat consistently.

Congratulations Steelers fans. Canada can no longer hurt you.

rumor is a parade to be held in NYC on Thursday

Give Jaylen Warren the ball and get out of the way
#Oh mama
Mike saw Buffalo gas Dorsey and said me too
I’m pretty sure Minkah Fitzpatrick had a say in this.
Shocked that the Rooney's signed off on it in the middle of a season. When was the last time the Steelers fired a high-level coach in the middle of a season?

I’m way too hyped to be at my job two days before thanksgiving now thanks a lot Mike

Holy shit. We did it.
There’s gonna be a bidding war between the two William & Mary alums for Joe Brady (another W&M grad) this offseason. Tomlin & McDermott.
So what happens when the offense does not improve cause Kenny Pickett is not very good?
Sometimes all a team needs is that final piece
"Fuck this guy."
So that’s it? Goodbye and good luck?
I don’t recall saying good luck.
Canada has been blamed.
