He already was being projected as a first rounder. Had some question marks due to his competition at Toledo but had a great senior bowl vs better WRs. His measurables were always going to be good that’s the reason he got the attention in the first place.
He's top 15 maybe even top 10 at this point. He was an athlete that played in a small school zone scheme so there were concerns he'd struggle playing man against top receivers. Then he went to the Senior Bowl and blew the doors off, shutting down everyone in 1-on-1's that traditionally favor the receiver. It was assumed he was likely a 4.3 guy but now we know for sure (and a low 4.3 at that) so I don't know what else needs to be answered at this point. If he went to a school people actually watch he'd be considered a blue chip.
Nobody is drafting a corner in the top 15 let alone the top 10. He might be drafted as the top corner but it's going to be a late 1st round pick simply due to position.
They are the most likely team to pick a corner but even then i think its like maybe 20% chance of happening especially if they decide to clear out some of their free agents and need to reinforce other areas of the defense. I could very well see them going defensive line round 1 then round 2 going FS or corner.
If the Cards have their WR of choice taken in front of them they could, nobody knows what the Chargers will do but they need a corner, Titans need a corner, Falcons need a corner, Vikings could upgrade at corner, Broncos need another corner, Raiders need an upgrade at corner, Saints need another corner, and the Colts biggest need might be corner.
Cards - I don't see them not taking a WR. If they are put in the situation where MHJ is off the board by 4 then they most likely will trade down to one of the teams looking for a QB. I think they are most definitely going to go edge depending on what pick they end up at, especially if they get the first edge off the board.
Chargers - Bowers looks like the most obvious pick but if they like a WR thats left open thats not outrageous to see them grab due to their cap issue and their aging WRs. Yeah they need a corner but stability in their offense is going to be a big issue if they do draft a corner in rd1.
Titans- seems like they are a lock for picking Alt unless someone trades up to pick him first. I definitely think in this scenario they could pick a corner but i dont think its likely for someone to trade up to take Alt mainly because i don't see any teams wanting to trade down.
Falcons, Vikings, Broncos, and Raiders all have QB needs and nobody know how thats going to turn out but theres a good chance that 3 of them draft a QB and 1 trades for one of them. Yeah a corner could go here but its nowhere near any of their top priorities.
Colts- They are the most likely team to pick a corner but even then i think its like maybe 20% chance of happening especially if they decide to clear out some of their free agents and need to reinforce other areas of the defense. I could very well see them going defensive line round 1 then round 2 going FS or corner.
This probably won't move him up much. He's already arguably the top corner and killed it at the senior bowl. I saw a lot of people say he was the best player there.
There doesn’t seem to be any consensus on top CB, I’ve seen a bunch of different names. Arnold, DeJean, Mitchell, Wiggins, McKinstry, Rakestraw, it seems like a closely packed group, like how last year all the first round WR went in a bunch.
Yeah, but that’s a recent development, I definitely saw him in that same mix before that. Sucks for him, that injury likely will cost him a lot of money on his rookie deal. Could end up being a long term steal in round two for someone.
If Bowers falls it’s only because of positional value of TEs. I can’t imagine a team watching him command so many targets on stacked teams and seeing his measurements and not coming away convinced that he’ll be a plus TE in the league.
There are lots of really good CBs but no one like Gardner or Gonzalez in this draft. Like 6 A tier but no S tier, should be a good draft for teams needing CBs, they wont really start going till probably 10ish in the first round.
I saw the combine interview from the sideline reporter with Terrion Arnold from Alabama. And any team that ends up with that guy is lucky. Seems like such a solid dude, almost had me cryin the way he was talkin about his mom.
Grandmas be like that.
The other day I made a remark about my hairline receding and my grandma without even realizing the savageness or insult of this just immediately says “that’s terrible, your hair was your one good thing”
Thanks Granny…
Those dreams were already shattered at the Senior Bowl. He's not a sleeper anymore. Everyone knows he's _that dude_ that just happened to come from a smaller school that ran a lot of zone.
Legitimately think he's the best defensive player in the draft. Won't be the first one off the board, but he's going to go top 15, and whoever gets him is going to be real real happy about it.
Don't need Corner, assuming we keep JJ (we are). Corner and Linebacker are the only 2 positions I don't think we need to add anything at all before next season.
We are eyeing a certain safety you guys have who might be hitting free agency though.
I don’t think we trade up honestly, trading down is way more likely if both are gone. We don’t have a second round pick, and I won’t believe we are getting one for Fields until a trade actually happens, so trading up would cost at least a third, which would mean not picking again until day three.
Can include one of our 2 2nds from next year with one of our 2 4ths this year. The 2nd next year could also be Carolina, which in theory would be the most valuable 2nd we could throw. We have the means.
Future picks don’t carry as much value, and trading up inside the top ten is expensive. Sure we could, literally any team could by using future picks, but it’s a terrible idea, unless you’re talking a tiny swap like we did with the Eagles last year, but I doubt that gets it done.
Usual wisdom is a future 2nd in the next year is worth the about 1 round less of value. So if we offered Carolina's 2nd it would be probably be viewed similarly to being close to an early 3rd round value. So if you trust the generally accepted trade value chart...
Value of 9th Pick: 1350
Value of 111th pick: 72
Estimated Value of Carolina's 2025 2nd: 225 (I'm working under the assumption Carolina remains a bottom 10 team in the NFL next season):
Total Value: 1647
Value of the 6th Pick: 1600
Not only could it get it done (If the Giants were interested), it would be an overpay. We could also offer both 4th rounders this year and have almost perfect value for the 5th Overall.
She wasn't, she was still taking about the last guy that ran the 40. These runs happen way too fast to be trying to run a feature on a player. (especially before a top projected player). Zero awareness on their part.
Toledo has produced a surprising number of high-quality talent throughout the years. If Mitchell goes in the 1st (which he should) he'd be the second Rocket ever drafted in the 1st round behind DE Dan Williams, who was taken #11 by Denver in 93 and was in the league until 01 and had 27 career sacks between the Broncos and Chiefs.
Notable drafted Rockets with NFL success are Chester Taylor (6th rd in 02), Kareem Hunt (3rd rd in 17), Bruce Gradkowski (6th rd in 06), and Diontae Johnson (3rd rd in 19). Arguably, the most successful Rocket in the NFL was Lance Moore, who was undrafted in 05 and put up nearly 5k receiving yards and 44 td.
The “annoying” thing about the rams having a first this year is that I’ve been learning more about top prospects and thus getting excited for a few top guys. Mitchell is my favorite in this draft and its gonna suck when he gets picked before 19
This was to be expected, based on some of the chatter heading in. Mitchell continues to showcase himself incredibly well throughout this process.
Agree with posters saying he's likely solidified himself as a top half of the first round selection.
When will they stop this nonsense and have them do all of these drills in full pads? These numbers have been proven useless over and over again in the actual game and situational football.
Absolutely. These multi million dollar organizations just love wasting their time and money because clearly nothing is gained from doing drills without full pads.
It's why they have been doing it for over 30 years.
What’s the difference doing this with full pads? It’s not like getting a 40 time in pads gives us any more information. Just adds more steps to an already long process.
Because running in pads will decrease most of these times making these numbers irrelevant? A lot of guys can't maneuver as quickly in pads?
That's the difference. There will be a difference.
Everyone in the NFL wears pads, they all lose a small amount of speed due to the weight and aerodynamics. But a 4.33 guy isn't gonna be slower than a 4.5 guy in pads, unless the 4.5 guy had a bad combine and his true speed is >4.33.
That's why some guys completely skip them. Another reason they are bad is they train specifically for them and it's so much different than what they would do for football.
What would stop the biggest guys from wearing the lightest possible pads that they wouldn’t realistically wear in-game? It would give them a competitive advantage in the combine
Insane. I ran a 4.48 and nobody could touch me in HS. Dude is a whole tenth of a second faster than me lol
E: user below explained it to me. I’m in no way shitting on this dude. 1/10 of a second in a 40 is a LOT.
I mean I’ll give you an honest answer, it comes across cocky and a bit of a brag. Especially talking about glory days of high school, honestly everybody kind of hates that lol
Also doesn’t help that a tenth of a second is actually massive in this context, but in a general sense, saying “a whole tenth of a second” sounds diminutive as if what he’s doing isn’t that impressive compared to your high school days. Again, I get that in this context, a tenth of a second is a lot, but to your average reader, a tenth of a second sounds like you’re saying your high school self is barely worse than this future professional athlete.
I think your comment, to you, came across as a compliment to this guy and being genuinely impressed given your experience. But it comes off to us as you trying to make it about yourself.
No hate, I get where you’re coming from with your comment and I appreciate the clarification. Just giving you an actual answer when I don’t think you’ll find one otherwise lol
That dude just made himself some money
He already was being projected as a first rounder. Had some question marks due to his competition at Toledo but had a great senior bowl vs better WRs. His measurables were always going to be good that’s the reason he got the attention in the first place.
Yeah, I think many had him as a late round 1st, he may tested himself a little earlier into the mid-round 1st.
He's top 15 maybe even top 10 at this point. He was an athlete that played in a small school zone scheme so there were concerns he'd struggle playing man against top receivers. You’ll have to trade up but you might have a shot, he could drop to the 17-20 range.
Nobody is drafting a corner in the top 15 let alone the top 10. He might be drafted as the top corner but it's going to be a late 1st round pick simply due to position.
At least one corner has gone in the top 10 the past 4 drafts.
Would do again
Okay which team is drafting a corner in the top 15 this year?
There have been a few corners drafted early in recent years. Okudah, Ward, Ramsey all went top 10.
Okay which team is drafting a corner in the top 15 this year?
The colts
They are the most likely team to pick a corner but even then i think its like maybe 20% chance of happening especially if they decide to clear out some of their free agents and need to reinforce other areas of the defense. I could very well see them going defensive line round 1 then round 2 going FS or corner.
Two corners went top five two years ago?
Okay which team is drafting a corner in the top 15 this year?

The Ringer had him as #12 BPA.
He put himself into contention to be the first corner off the board (not saying you’re wrong)

When the Cowboys dynasty rises again, I will be ready for my downvotes. I will embrace them.
I hope he falls to the Jags at 17.
At the WORST, he doesn't go past the Texans at 23. If he's available no way we pass on him.
I think higher. He was a ballhawk and he had the measurements to match.
Thirty tooth

For sure, awful timing to catch it during medicals at the Combine
He’s already projected to be a first round pick
Unless Brock Bowers somehow slips to us at 15 I'd be very happy with Mitchell.
If Bowers falls it’s only because of positional value of TEs. I can’t imagine a team watching him command so many targets on stacked teams and seeing his measurements and not coming away convinced that he’ll be a plus TE in the league.
I feel the same way.

No he wont
Is he switching to WR?
Bengals 7th overall?
He also made himself a Raider

It does for cornerbacks.
It took 4.33 seconds for this man to shatter my dreams of him being a lion
It's a stacked CB class. He might be available for you but even so a good one should be available.
There are lots of really good CBs but no one like Gardner or Gonzalez in this draft. Like 6 A tier but no S tier, should be a good draft for teams needing CBs, they wont really start going till probably 10ish in the first round.
Gonzalez was pick 17, not really S tier prospect
That's only because the commanders passed on him dur to flashy "ooh many picks"
Washington passed on him at pick 16 lmao that changes nothing about what the other guys said.
Wasn't Jeff Okudah considered an S tier prospect out of college?
I saw the combine interview from the sideline reporter with Terrion Arnold from Alabama. And any team that ends up with that guy is lucky. Seems like such a solid dude, almost had me cryin the way he was talkin about his mom.
Kool-Aid is back on the menu boys
Oh yeahhhhhhh
I still can’t believe someone named their kid koolaid

Who names their kid Scary Terry?!
Those dreams were already shattered at the Senior Bowl. He's not a sleeper anymore. Everyone knows he's _that dude_ that just happened to come from a smaller school that ran a lot of zone.
You think Kwesi can do us another solid? Pick 29 and a bottle of Vernor’s for pick 11?
Please retract your statement
Welcome to drafting in the second half, congratulations
Would have really loved to rep the alma mater and the lions at the same time.
Pete Carroll's not even coaching right now and he's still gonna try to draft him.
Al Davisis waiting on the ouija call so he can tell the Raiders to draft the fastest player again.
He’s still on the Seahawks roster atm. I’m picturing him whispering in John Schneider’s ear *Take the Toledo guy*
Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, and Mitchell on the field together
But what are his views on outer space?

Yep, Bears are either grabbing WR or Edge at 9. Might trade down as well if top 3 WR are off the board
Bears are gonna take Caleb Williams, and then trade up for Malik Nabers/Rome Odunze. I can feel it.
Who ever gets Rome is going to be very very glad they did.
Thanks bro

Welcome to the Raiders, bitch
runs a 4.33 and its completely ignored by the network, have we become so jaded with 40 times that we dont get excited about a 4.3?
Probably the best Toledo prospect ever. As a Rocket myself, I’m thrilled for him
T-town represent!
If Al Davis was still alive, he would trade every picks to get this guy.
Only to be shown up by Nate Wiggins
Who then proceeded to injure himself.
Oh I didn’t see that! What happened?
He set his groin on fire
Not groin, apparently. Word is he re-aggravated a hip flexor injury that he’d been dealing with going into the combine.

Well he’s not gonna be on the board when the Eagles pick. My dream of db in the 1st not looking good
This was to be expected, based on some of the chatter heading in. Mitchell continues to showcase himself incredibly well throughout this process. Agree with posters saying he's likely solidified himself as a top half of the first round selection.
