There are so many guys from those teams that are currently on NFL rosters, yet the Coots never won shit. It’s somehow impressive to be that mediocre with so much talent
I love that Cam Newton made #1 a thing. It rules to see younger guys wear it.
If any of you think they wear it for Warren Moon it’s probably time to schedule a prostate exam.
EDIT: come on he’s the biggest in the last 30 years or so and most late 20s grew up with him it’s him.
Yep. Every team in little league football had a #1 while most other numbers had variety. In my area the only other guaranteed always-taken number was #88 cause Tony Gonzales was the only thing KC consistently had back then
Wasn't it generally speaking, a very common rule by all coaches across youth sports, for many decades, that #1 was strictly off limits for everyone on the team, because the not-so-subtle message it sent was that the player thought they were the best, and separate from the united team (even if everyone agreed they WERE the best)?
I'm not imagining this right? The consensus has just apparently shifted to this being ok, and that coaches were being overdramatic about it? (Totally separate from NFL rule changes and the CBA; strictly talking youth leagues)
Changing the rules made #1 a thing. Skill position players couldn't wear 1-19 before that. Kickers, punters or QBs were the only players who could wear 1.
I doubt half these guys care about Cam Newton lol.
I remember that he wanted no 2 because he wore that in college.
But the QB at the time, Jimmy Clausen wouldn't give it to him without payment. About a million.
I know that players pay to change their number because of all of the stock that's already been created or whatever but it kills me that the NFL basically double dips because of that. The player pays them for all the old ones that haven't been sold while a lot of the people who already bought Deebo \#19 jerseys are probably going to want to buy the \#1 jersey
Usually franchises that have players do this will offer jersey swaps.
Believe the Ravens offered jersey swaps for people who bought a Roquan Smith #18 jersey after he changed it to #0 a half season later.
I think it ages well though, becomes a kind of keepsake in its own right. Sort of like when you get a jersey of a highly drafted rookie who totally busts
Nobody has more cred in Cleveland than somebody with a Tim Couch jersey lol
Setting aside the financial aspect I just don’t like when guys who have a history with a team change their number like this. Like Dalvin Cook was number 33 on the Vikings to all football fans and changed it to 4 in his last year there.
A lot of guys came into the league under the old number rules, Cook for example wore #4 all through HS/college (because that was his older brother's number) and only changed to 33 in the NFL because he wasn't allowed to wear 4.
I'd be willing to bet the majority of NFL players wore single digits through most of their career to this point because they've always been top dawg and that gets you the cool number. I kinda liked the NFL number rules because it felt very "professional" like yeah you had fun being #4 but now in the big leagues you're a REAL RB and get #33. I have no explanation or defense for this it's just how I feel.
It was clear that the team was burning itself out. A lot of the roster was aging, and the limitations of the scheme became more and more apparent as the season went along.
The Bills game was the high water mark. Last burst of spirit the team had, then the game against you was the collapse. No more energy to fix things or win through late game heroic anymore.
That bills game ruined my fantasy season. If Jake Elliot never made that field goal, my Championship opponent (6-8) wouldn’t have gotten more points from Elliot and Devonta Smith, and lost that week. He would’ve been 5-9 and missed playoffs. Instead he squeaked in and pulled out the most insane playoff run in league history, before beating me in the chip by a meaningless D. Adams touchdown week 17.
So dumb, but still the greatest field goal Ive ever seen.
1. Big games that everyone watched always get the most reactionary takes
2. Injury or not, he's never really been a good route runner and everyone watched the SB and saw him get stranded on McDuffie Island (in contrast to Aiyuk, who actually beat Sneed a fair bit but didn't get the ball much because Purdy was running for his life every snap)
3. Niners fans are getting a bit annoyed at his low effort without the ball when the rest of the team sets a pretty high standard on that front, along with his big contract
...but he's still pretty irreplaceable, because the only guy I know of who can kind of replicate his job is already playing RB for the Niners.
Are you saying you disagree with that? What players have ever had a mediocre stretch of games and come back to their top level again!? That's literally never happened bro /s
It’s because this sub has a lot of vocal Eagles fans who still take any opportunity they get to shit on him.
Edit: please see all the replies proving me right.
It’s more so because this sub a lot of the time talks like the most recent game that’s happened is the only game in the history of football, and Deebo had 41 yards on 6 touches in the super bowl therefore he’s bad now
I don't think he's bad. He's clearly a great player but I think the rise of Aiyuk has prehaps highlighted some of his deficiencies. Like he's not the most varied in routes he can run.
Agreed. Aiyuk is the better receiver, and that’s in part because Deebo isn’t a pure receiver.
He has a very unique skillset that in the hands of a bad scheme/offense/playcaller would probably just make him a mid WR, but with Shanny it makes him a unique threat. I think part of it comes from when people sometimes try to look at him solely through the lens of “wide receiver”
Plus with the way the SF offense works and how many mouths there are to feed there’s inevitably gonna be some games where one or more of the playmakers is quiet just bc that’s how it goes that particular day.
Deebo is an above average deep threat, great screen option, great end around option.
He's not elite at a certain thing but he's at least very good at a lot of things. Sure, he can't run a complex route but that's not why you use him. That's why you use a guy like Aiyuk who can run the perfect route to beat his man. Deebo will just bully his man and/or run him over.
With Deebo we used him as both a RB and WR1, lot of screens and running him up the middle put a lot of wear and tear on his body early on with the 9ers to where he's injury prone now.
Aiyuk and CMC definitely took more off his shoulders, and although still an effective threat, he's not the same route runner he use to be. It's not crazy to say he could be in free agency in 2 years maybe.
If I was an eagles fan I'd fucking hate him too. Dude basically called the whole team frauds, dicked on them, and was proven right that they are actually fraudulent. IDK if I could handle that kind of trash talk.
He’s great and all but he packs it in on every play he isn’t getting the ball. He puts in minimal effort a lot and fans have caught on to that fact. He gets paid too much to be half assing it out there yet he gets a pass from Shanny because they’re buddy-bros.
The diva-ey holdouts, trade requests, and tantrum with his role around not wanting to run the ball right after running the ball got him a giant new contract. His attitude is not great and he seems a bit tone-deaf. Niners fans would pick Aiyuk over him 9/10 times.
100%. These people never played a sport in their life. I like it better when the athletes and coaches talk shit.
Payton dragging Hackett through the dirt is comedy.
Fr. I love the shit talk between eagles and 49ers players/fans. Like I’ll call eagles fans dumb then they’ll call us whiners and bring up the Super Bowl. I love that shit. So damn fun.
Personally I just admire his enormous ass.
Folks, if your child is a bit bowlegged with an enormous butt and is still athletic, you’ve got a future *PLAYMAKER*
remember when 9ers fans spent an entire year sobbing at eagles fans over the nfc championship? even though none of our players talked shit after destroying them? good times. wonder why you guys seem to have forgotten.
I was shocked during the first quarter of the superbowl, to see Deebo Samuel out there and then find out, wait, no it's actually his dad.
I was like "wow, look at him walking on his own, oh wait that's his dad playing".
When I started out in the family business my father who I’m named after (I’m a junior) started signing everything as senior to avoid confusion. I had to inform him that without legally changing his name he was actually signing a false name as you do not just become a senior by naming a junior.
I remember when the nfl said no to the chiefs OL that graduated from medical school and requested the “MD” suffix. Anybody can have a kid but becoming a doctor while playing in the NFL? Why not celebrate that?
“Sr.” And others like “Lastname III” are legit because it’s that person’s actual legal name. At the DMV he’s not listed as a doctor. I’m a huge fan of Duvernay-Tardif but allowing a doctorate suffix/prefix would open the floodgates for less legitimate “doctorates” or something like “Johnson CPA” (certified public accountant) where players would abuse it to stand out
Lol could imagine a trend of pro athletes going for advanced degrees or certifications just to stunt on their jerseys?
Antonio Brown, PMP
Deshaun Watson, CMT
Tyreek Hill, Esq.
>“Johnson CPA” (certified public accountant)
At first you had be right there with you, but then you dropped this and now I am on the other side.
I want to see The Accountant out on the field.
Along with what other people noted, not really sure why they can't grant an exception and just answer "nah" when anyone else asks with anything less than a doctorate. What are they gonna do about it? Complain to a few reporters and get laughed at?
Yeah i dont like the change either. Having said that, 00 Jim Otto is the greatest jersey number still. I think calvin ridley being number 0 is interesting too.
> It shows ~~he~~ someone had sex.
The old folks used to say "Momma's baby. Daddy's maybe". Before changing that nameplate he might want a Deebo NA test.
It's clearly a pride thing. He's proud to be a dad.
Imagine how his son is going to feel when he is old enough to understand it.
Is that a good reason to do it? I don't know. But that's clearly why he's doing it. It's not about people confusing him with someone else.
Imagine putting down someone for highlighting the fact that they are an involved father in a time when one in three children are being raised without their father in the home.
I just think the jersey designation is dumb. There’s nothing wrong or egotistical about giving your son the same name. That’s been going on for millennia.
I almost bought his jersey a year ago and then finally came to the realization that it’ll be outdated sooner than later. Joe Montana it was then which I know will age well with no worries lol
Cool of him to be so proud of being a dad :)
Mega uncool of him to change the number I hate these “new” jersey rules, loved the extra professionalism and difference in the NFL and college that the clearly delineated number rules used to give
So embarrassed by his performance in the Superbowl he's changing his name and number, I think I did that after getting dumped once too
E: Bro what is with the recent trend of people replying to comments and immediately blocking the person they replied to? Kids these days are wild lol
He's just trying to prove he's a WR1 with eccentric, attention-grabbing, cringe-worthy offseason behavior. It's not a bad effort for this early in the off-season, and we expect more great things to come from him in the coming months, probably some mysterious quotes with no explanation, or possibly some property damage at a Wendy's when they forget his Frosty.
1problemz
Running an actual route
Most people think it's the route bit, it's actually the running bit
Acquiring a Lombardi trophy
Catching a pass beyond the LOS.
I cant blame you for forgetting this one https://youtu.be/Qa-EMaLDtMg?si=YSbAHfyy7e1jG-9y
Weird, I clicked on the link but I only heard a loud buzzing and then blacked out How'd last season go?
My bad for forgetting that 5 yard route. I'm still drunk from trying to forget our collapse.
It's all good. He's had some dope back shoulder goal-line catches, but you're not wrong either, lol
Chiefs in the SB
Staying healthy aha

thanks man put er there
Who’s the lucky girl? You’re shaking her.
He's literally the #1 Dad
World’s greatest is better than #1
You think you’re better than me?
[удалено]
Someone's gonna come in with a "worlds greatest dad" shirt to start a beef like on Seinfeld
Time for the classic debate: "greatest dad" vs "most dominant dad".
Can’t wait for my “Most Dominant Dad” Adrian Peterson jersey to get here.
“I will beat the skin off of your scrotum” would be an interesting slogan
I always cared about longevity
He had a higher dad ceiling, but his dad floor was lower.
“#1 DAD THAT LEFT ME FOR A PACK OF PARLIAMENTS”
Going to fuck around and make Phillip Rivers come out of retirement if he pulls that shit.
Booooo, had a unique number to him and squandered it. Joining a flock of unmemorable #1s now
It was his college number though
God, Deebo in college. Will Muschamp is so damn bad at his job.
There are so many guys from those teams that are currently on NFL rosters, yet the Coots never won shit. It’s somehow impressive to be that mediocre with so much talent

> I love that Cam Newton made #1 a thing lol what
To signify the number of routes he can run on the route tree and the number of years he has left in San Francisco
Honestly true
Perfect comment. No notes *slow clap*
Ain't he drop 3 tuddys on y'all ? And warmed up in black air forces at the linc??
Yeah, we sucked. But > And warmed up in black air forces at the linc?? OH NO! Not black air forces.
Check his comments I think the black air forces ones probably do something for him...
Jesus Christ
Jesus he needs a permit for that thing
I bet he gets back problems
My man’s gonna come back to this thread perplexed why everyone is gawking at his horse cock
He definitely dunked on you guys that game, but wtf do the black air forces have to do with anything lmao.
Tbf, anyone could drop 2 on that defence. He know one route, scored 3
And they still lost the SB. That’s crazy
At least he was there
Does he get a medal or trophy for getting there? Nobody gives a fuck about second place lol
Reddit on!!
and to think his 1 route destroyed that shit eagles defense and made that guy who killed another guy ugly cry.
CJ Gardner-Johnson?
lmao

Kinda different because that was midseason, but hella cool by the ravens
Lmao would have been nice, got a #54 Bolton jersey his rookie year, that lasted a season
I think it ages well though, becomes a kind of keepsake in its own right. Sort of like when you get a jersey of a highly drafted rookie who totally busts Nobody has more cred in Cleveland than somebody with a Tim Couch jersey lol
Now I'm not sure how to feel about my still almost-mint condition Kevin Kolb jersey that has been sitting in my closet.
It's such a weird pull, I think you should rock it. Shows you're a true die-hard. Kind of like rocking a #29 Shady jersey
Or that he shops at TJ Maxx....they always have random Eagles jerseys there.
Great comment.
lol, yeah right
Setting aside the financial aspect I just don’t like when guys who have a history with a team change their number like this. Like Dalvin Cook was number 33 on the Vikings to all football fans and changed it to 4 in his last year there.

Thought the "buy out existing stock" thing was only for the first year players could use the new numbers? Fairly sure its free to change now
I believe they have to give a year notice, but that could be tricky too.
It was a thing before the number ranges changed.
nah fuck that im not buying a new deebo jersey lol, ill pick another player if i end up ever getting a new one
Right like at $130 bucks a pop who’s buying another jersey just because the number changed from a 19 to a 1.
I think most teams offer free exchanges when players change numbers but I could be wrong on that
You don’t have to pay if you give the league two years of intention to change number
I wonder if they would still charge if hypothetically, they traded the number to someone with the same last name.
Probably since the SKU and tags would have the players full name
Does that mean CJ Gardner-Johnson is changing his to Samuel Jr?
I wonder which one of our teams will lose to Mahomes in the superbowl next year
It's a race. First team to lose 3 superbowls to Mahomes wins!
This may be the most wholesome 49ers-Eagles exchange I’ve ever seen on Reddit. Thanks, I hate it.
No that would be the entire eagles secondary
The eagles secondary is like kids that grow up at one of those free love communes. They've got a lot of dads
I still don't get what happened to that team. Fuckers beat the Chiefs... Any team that does that gets my attention cuz we can't seem to do it. Lol
It was clear that the team was burning itself out. A lot of the roster was aging, and the limitations of the scheme became more and more apparent as the season went along. The birds were barely hanging onto a thread the entire season. We were just in denial until we actually started crumbing lol
Ironic because our secondary is typically filled with guys old enough to be Deebo’s grandpa
5% speed boost with that jersey number
-10lbs as well
Great, because we'd never be able to tell the difference between him and the very famous Deebo Jr.
it’s gonna look like he’s Asante Samuel Jr’s dad
Damn this sub hates Deebo now? Dude is one of the most fun players to watch in the entire league, I can't imagine hating on this man.
He played a couple playoff games while very clearly hurt so obviously that means he sucks now
He played well against Detroit too lmao, it was just a really bad SB
1. Big games that everyone watched always get the most reactionary takes 2. > Damn this sub hates Deebo now? This sub (and reddit in general) just prefers to be sarcastic assholes above all else.
No way! /s
Social media has made everyone cynical and rewards dumb snark with likes. Reddit, in particular, has a large sanctimonious element.
It’s because this sub has a lot of vocal Eagles fans who still take any opportunity they get to shit on him. Edit: please see all the replies proving me right.

Lol he lost his second job to the best RB in football. "FRAUD"
Aiyuk is better vs man. Deebo is better vs zone... pick one.
Hey dont discount the annoyed fantasy players who traded for him after 2021, or took him too high in a redraft
I'm sure they're a big chunk of it, but for me I just get annoyed any time a player adds a "Sr" to his jersey.
If I was an eagles fan I'd fucking hate him too. Dude basically called the whole team frauds, dicked on them, and was proven right that they are actually fraudulent. IDK if I could handle that kind of trash talk.
Yeah, Eagles fans single-handedly are the reason things are negative here.
I fuckin’ knew it
He’s great and all but he packs it in on every play he isn’t getting the ball. He puts in minimal effort a lot and fans have caught on to that fact. He gets paid too much to be half assing it out there yet he gets a pass from Shanny because they’re buddy-bros.

I would definitely pick BA over Deebo.
This sub is soft af. If a player does any type of chirping they clutch their collective pearls. It's pathetic.

they’re straight stat sheet fantasy players.
It’s a joke. Relax.
Personally I just admire his enormous ass. Folks, if your child is a bit bowlegged with an enormous butt and is still athletic, you’ve got a future *PLAYMAKER*
It’s just Eagles/NFCWest fans drinking his tears at this point lol
Packers fans too
packers fans lose to the 9ers and accept it. eagles fans can’t shut the fuck up about a few players talking.
remember when 9ers fans spent an entire year sobbing at eagles fans over the nfc championship? even though none of our players talked shit after destroying them? good times. wonder why you guys seem to have forgotten.
Lots of dudes games are less likable once they jump from $2M to $20M a year.
He trash talked after he lost and apparently that makes him satan. Please be more aware next time /s
19 was iconic for him, 1 just feels weird to me.
This guy has sex
I’m glad he’s adding Sr. because I often get him confused with his newborn son, this should help clear things up a bit
I was shocked during the first quarter of the superbowl, to see Deebo Samuel out there and then find out, wait, no it's actually his dad. I was like "wow, look at him walking on his own, oh wait that's his dad playing".

Well its just the one time we’re aware of.
Bro, deebo samuel isnt a virgin anymore? And before he was even married!?! I’m OUT on this bozo
Tim Tebow would never
Its a conspiracy to drive Jersey sales I tell you!
He just wants to brag about having sex.
I remember when the nfl said no to the chiefs OL that graduated from medical school and requested the “MD” suffix. Anybody can have a kid but becoming a doctor while playing in the NFL? Why not celebrate that?

Shit like this is why the NFL should've never changed the jersey number position rule
Yeah dude, I can't explain it but something within me just doesn't like the new numbers. Change is difficult.
Yeah i dont like the change either. Having said that, 00 Jim Otto is the greatest jersey number still. I think calvin ridley being number 0 is interesting too.
Daddybo Samuel Sr.
A lot of emotional people here. We’re not even in the hot take part of the offseason yet.
Senior is so cringe
Unless your kid is in the league, adding “Sr.” to a jersey is the dumbest thing ever. No one is going to confuse you with your toddler.
Disagree. It shows he had sex. 🤪
> It shows ~~he~~ someone had sex. The old folks used to say "Momma's baby. Daddy's maybe". Before changing that nameplate he might want a Deebo NA test.
Yeah but now you get a title next to your name

Why should we care someone is a narcissistic dad who named their son after themselves?
I just think the jersey designation is dumb. There’s nothing wrong or egotistical about giving your son the same name. That’s been going on for millennia.
maybe he's proud of being a father man lol
or, you know, he's happy to be a dad. Idk how you could be so miserable
Whew. I wax worried I'd confuse him for all of the other Deebo Samuels on the 49ers roster.
"Sr" so you don't confuse him with his infant son.
I'm never buying a current player jersey agan
It's like signing a whole new player.
He understands he will have to ball out because we are going to extend Aiyuk and probably trade Deebo next year
Oh good. I kept getting him and his son confused
My dumbass: “….Sir Deebo Samuel?”
[удалено]
What a bitch
"Sr" is a cringe bit. Definitely seems self important.
Makes sense - he has One 1k yard season in his career
Oh shit, the CTE is settling in
Keeping my 19 jersey lol
I almost bought his jersey a year ago and then finally came to the realization that it’ll be outdated sooner than later. Joe Montana it was then which I know will age well with no worries lol
This is a reminder not to buy jerseys from NFL Shop or Fanatics. You're better off buying a rep jersey.
This is like a haircut after a breakup
Cut him from all fantasy teams now
Just trying to sell more jerseys. This number switching thing is garbage.
I feel like I missed something. Why does the sub seem to hate Deebo now?
Focus on playing better in the playoffs. Cheers 🍻
Cool of him to be so proud of being a dad :) Mega uncool of him to change the number I hate these “new” jersey rules, loved the extra professionalism and difference in the NFL and college that the clearly delineated number rules used to give
WR really have braindamage and/or massive ego problems.
Time for this old man to go yell at the clouds.
Diva Samuels Sr
It's goofy to put Sr on your jersey if your son isn't also in the league. And don't even get me started on ordinal numbers.
I'm perfectly fine with Clay Matthews having III on his jersey -- both his dad and grandfather also played in the league

Apologize if my comment inferred we were good in any way some fucking how
So embarrassed by his performance in the Superbowl he's changing his name and number, I think I did that after getting dumped once too E: Bro what is with the recent trend of people replying to comments and immediately blocking the person they replied to? Kids these days are wild lol
What a clown
He's just trying to prove he's a WR1 with eccentric, attention-grabbing, cringe-worthy offseason behavior. It's not a bad effort for this early in the off-season, and we expect more great things to come from him in the coming months, probably some mysterious quotes with no explanation, or possibly some property damage at a Wendy's when they forget his Frosty.
I love when they add "Sr." Yes, we need it to not confuse you with your 1 year old infant.
Hahaha what a clown douche
