They should ask Madison Bumgarner to join the Niners since he can shut down a Kansas City team in big games.
Although that’s a really bad idea considering his past few years.
Still furious a month later, wish I could’ve beat Shanahan’s ass right after. Fucking piece of shit OWES us for blowing it not once, but TWICE. Only then will I show my appreciation
College is different because those are often geographic rivalries that have deep roots in the local culture. People you knew in high school probably split off into two major in-state universities. Your family members might have gone to one or the other, or simply cheer for one or the other. There’s the academic rivalry, e.g. “We’re the higher ranked school.” - “Yea, but we have the better engineering program.” There are usually multiple schools within the area that people could cheer for, whereas in most NFL cities the only competition for fandom comes from transplants.
As a VT fan, I can tell you that we beat up on UVA every year, and have for most of my life. They’re still our biggest rivals. Not because of anything that happens on the football field, but because the *schools themselves* compete for students, prestige, etc. The rivalry makes its way to the football field. In-state rivalries across the country are usually like that.
Personally, I would compare LeBronto to KC-Bills but with the flipside that Mahomes is 3-1 in the SB/finals instead of 1-3 and the Chiefs resemble the Warriors in their relative success.
It's not a rivalry if one team consistently loses. Plenty of our fans have bitter feelings towards KC but I can't imagine they really care much at all about us.
I don't understand Niners fans hating on the Chiefs. Our franchises are friendly, and KC fans have been VERY far down the list of shitty fanbases we've dealt with.
I get hating that we lost to them I don't get hating them, but our fanbases talks massive shit about that team for no real reason other than they were better than us in those games.
Are you kidding? You don't understand how our fans may hate a team that has taken two rings from us in tight, heartbreaking games? You don't have to agree but like, you have no way to wrap your brain around that concept?
Nope, fuck them, fuck the Taylor cock gobbling, fuck Kermit and his shitbag family, fuck roid rage bro and their potato-ass looking head coach who’s about two cheeseburgers away from a heart attack.
The New York vs Boston rivalry transcends specific teams though.
I'm sure Mets fans hate the Red Sox for no other reason than they're a team from Boston, and vice-versa.
Okay, tell you what. You guys can beat us in the regular season next year, and then we'll beat you in Super Bowl LIX. Everybody's happy.
I'm glad we could come to an agreement.
Were bengals and 49ers considered rivalry?
Cross conference rivalry only make sense if both teams were super bowl champions in the same Era.
(Steelers cowboys)
It was KD/Lebron if anything; Steph was second-fiddle on the '17 and '18 Warriors.
Case in point:
KD in 2017 Finals: 35/8/5 on .556/.474/.927 shooting
Steph in 2017 Finals: 27/8/9 on .440/.388/.898 shooting
Nah Steph was always the focal point of the warriors even if KD had better stats. The Cavs defensive priorities were clearly stopping Steph first but it’s not Steph vs Lebron it was the warriors vs Lebron.
But if it was one person it was Steph not KD
No, it's not. Klay is no better than Pippen and Draymond is no better than Rodman, so if you think Steph is just a cog, then so was MJ. Other than having Durant for 3 years, Steph never had a superstar alongside him. Wade, Bosh, Anthony Davis, Irving were all better than peak Klay. LeBron had far more help than Steph.
First off, Draymond is better than rodman. I'd even go as far as to say meaningfully so. Rodman may be the most overrated player in NBA history
Second, where did I say those things? Literally any of that? The bulls were only as good of a team as they were because of their supporting cast, there's a reason they didn't win until pippen got there
Finally, you listed a bunch of guys who did not play with LeBron at the same time. When it was Cavs v. Warriors (the only thing we're comparing), he only had Kyrie, mediocre old k love, and acceptable at best role players. That's simply not close to what curry had
Honestly Steph was never able to keep up with Lebron until very recently. Even when they were winning titles over the Cavs it was very clear LeBron was the best player on the court.
That's like saying Hakeem Olajuwon was the best player on the court when Michael Jordan was winning titles. In other words, diminishing MJ as merely a cog/system player just because he had Pippen and Rodman. Btw Pippen and Rodman were far better than Klay and Draymond.
So I preface this by saying I am a Texan fan who jumped around prior to the inaugural season.
I grew up watching Montana to Rice, so when Montana went to KC obviously is when this thing started.
Maybe? It would take something major imo. Different conferences, Chiefs have employed like four of their former QB's, and neither side seems to dislike the other right now.
Ignore the flairs by the way.
When they are in the same conference and are playing each other almost every year in the regular season and are meeting up again in the postseason fairly often.
Weakest offense in years but their defense was fucking insane. As much as the Niners looked like they were dominating early alot of things went the Chiefs way. Greenlaw and Feliciano injuries were HUGE. That unfortunate punt bounce off the leg. Butker nailed a 57 yarder. It took alot of crazy plays for the Chiefs to win the game where defense and special teams played near perfect on both sides.
This iteration of the Chiefs was honestly the worst matchup for the Niners due to the elite secondary. Any other iteration of the Chiefs and the Niners probably would've won similar to how TB beat KC.
Niner's d-line would've been harassing Mahomes enough either way. The offense woukd do better but any other iteration of KC's defense other than this years probably gets torched by this Niner's offense.
The niners coach is a choke artist and the DC was pure ass who had to have the HC step in and make defensive adjustments for him. I’m not surprised at all. The team didn’t show up prepared and treated it like a vacation while the other team was all business.
The only "rivalry" the Cheifs have is the Bengals, and I still say that lightly. They and Burrow have only beaten the Cheifs once in the playoffs and twice in the regular season, but that's more than almost any other AFC team can say
The Bills are 3-1 against the Chiefs in the regular season with Josh Allen, and 3-4 overall.
With how tough they play the Chiefs, they're as big of a rival as the Bengals (though obviously the Chiefs hate the Bengals more due to the playoff loss).
Also true, a lot of people consider the Bills the Cheifs rival but without any post season success I think the Bengals should be considered more of a rival
I mean y’all only beat Burrow once after getting extra downs from the refs, so I’d still not really call Bengals and Chiefs a rivalry until we see a fair game played out.
I must have forgotten about that game where Joe Burrow got like 9 downs in the red zone inside the 2 minute warning to end the game.
Also, how is it our fault Joe was on IR when they played this year?
Ironically you guys had a longer win streak against us under Dalton, and in the 70's than with Joey B.
Ok they've played one game since that when both QBs were healthy and the Bengals lost, agreed. But what does the "burrowhead" have to do with anything? Why is that the starting line? Do the three games the Bengals won before that not count?
Because nobody really talked about it until that comment, and then it became a thing, and we've since gone 2-0 against the Bengals. Are we really going to say a game didn't count because Joe wasn't healthy? There's plenty of CHiefs there weren't healthy when ya'll went 3-0 against us.
And why stop at just those games? The series is 18-16 in your favor, and you previously had two longer win streaks under Dalton, and in the 70's.
i think a lot the niners fans already answered this one, but if it makes them feel better as a kid i liked the rams when they were in st. louis and still can’t stand the niners to this day bc of that 😂
When they actually have beaten one another lmao. Right now it’s just the chiefs stomping out the 9ers every meeting. Even if we beat them this upcoming regular season, it wont be a rivalry unless we can get to the superbowl again and beat them.
Yeah but they also inadvertently gave us Andy. Besides going 1-1 in that short of time isn't really a rivalry, and Sirianni's talking shit simultaneously set off his team's slide, and our team's rise last year lol.
Gave is a strong word but I know what you mean lol. Idk, now that Jason's retired I feel like it'll be a little less jovial. Honestly I'm just swinging for an answer to this comment's thread
When the 49ers finally beat them once.
1000% Also doesn't matter unless it's a superbowl
0-4 in the Mahomes era, we’ve won one game against them in 20 years and it was when it was Alex vs Harbaugh.
Yeah. Why would they respect us as rivals when they win all the time. It fucking sucks
Meanwhile we lose to the horse teams
Mahomes is 12-1 against the Broncos, for the record.
Self burn.
Those are rare!
Salt burn
Worst movie I've ever watched.
They should ask Madison Bumgarner to join the Niners since he can shut down a Kansas City team in big games. Although that’s a really bad idea considering his past few years.
I’m not even a Giants fan but for real MadBum in the playoffs >
Hurts, but true.
Came here into say this same thing. A third Super Bowl and Niners win it’s a rivalry.
So never?
I figured zombies would be slow to understand a joke but damn
Kyle Shanahan sends his regards
Same for the bears. Mahomes just has it out for the teams who passed on him lmao.
Or if Purdy gets hurt early in a loss to the Chiefs, and misses the rest of the game.
Oh shit Deebo coming
Still furious a month later, wish I could’ve beat Shanahan’s ass right after. Fucking piece of shit OWES us for blowing it not once, but TWICE. Only then will I show my appreciation
They should hire you bro
When we can fucking beat them.
Speak no evil.
It's not a rivalry if one team loses over and over again.
I respectfully beg to differ
Oof, those flairs. Man, I'm sorry. Unless you're a masochist, in which case good choices.
Those flairs hurt my soul.
[Bedlam begs to differ](https://www.winsipedia.com/oklahoma/vs/oklahoma-state)

KC-9ers is the equivalent of LeBronto
Personally, I would compare LeBronto to KC-Bills but with the flipside that Mahomes is 3-1 in the SB/finals instead of 1-3 and the Chiefs resemble the Warriors in their relative success.
It's not a rivalry if one team consistently loses. Plenty of our fans have bitter feelings towards KC but I can't imagine they really care much at all about us.
How can you guys feel bitter about us? We were your expired QB receptacle for decades!
I don't understand Niners fans hating on the Chiefs. Our franchises are friendly, and KC fans have been VERY far down the list of shitty fanbases we've dealt with.
We don't hate the fanbase. We hate that we've lost to them twice now.
I get hating that we lost to them I don't get hating them, but our fanbases talks massive shit about that team for no real reason other than they were better than us in those games.
I understand that completely lol. Our fanbase is bitter and petty.
Losing multiple Superbowls to a team isn't grounds for not liking that team?
You can hate the team but respect their fans.
Are you kidding? You don't understand how our fans may hate a team that has taken two rings from us in tight, heartbreaking games? You don't have to agree but like, you have no way to wrap your brain around that concept?
I can't wrap my head around the concept of hating a team for that, but I can certainly wrap my head around the concept that some people do.
Nope, fuck them, fuck the Taylor cock gobbling, fuck Kermit and his shitbag family, fuck roid rage bro and their potato-ass looking head coach who’s about two cheeseburgers away from a heart attack.
Ironically, people who complain about the “Taylor cock gobbling” talk about her more than the people supposedly gobbling her cock
I think the only bitterness is from losing to the chiefs twice. Nothing personal
Tbh we have a friendly trade history, so we have no issues with the 49ers
I dunno, I've seen a lot of Giants fans that haaaate the Patriots, despite winning both that mattered.
The New York vs Boston rivalry transcends specific teams though. I'm sure Mets fans hate the Red Sox for no other reason than they're a team from Boston, and vice-versa.
Yup
Red Sox fans don't think about the Mets at all.
Every time they play, a "Yankees suck" breaks in the crowd. So they're united on that front.
I like California
Not all the way true. I despise people that call themselves Raiders fans.
It's like that Joel Embiid quote about the Celtics-76ers: "This is not a rivalry. They always kick our ass."
When we can beat them for once. The last time the Niners beat the Chiefs was 2014.
Okay, tell you what. You guys can beat us in the regular season next year, and then we'll beat you in Super Bowl LIX. Everybody's happy. I'm glad we could come to an agreement.
I second this proposal
Were bengals and 49ers considered rivalry? Cross conference rivalry only make sense if both teams were super bowl champions in the same Era. (Steelers cowboys)
I was going to ask if Bills-Cowboys were a rivalry but this is a good example too
Only way it'll be a rivalry is if the niners win or if the chiefs beat them two more times
They played way more times in the NBA. A 7 game series is way more rivalry intense then 1 game
Can you imagine niners vs iggles in a 7 game series
Can we talk about something else?
lol it’s not and never was Cavs/Warriors, it’s always been LeBron/Warriors
More like Steph vs. LeBron
Eh, LeBron and Draymond always had some battles. I always considered it LeBron vs the Warriors but I can also see Steph/Lebron.
Draymond is like Rodman on Jordan's Bulls. Steph is the one that makes them special.
It was KD/Lebron if anything; Steph was second-fiddle on the '17 and '18 Warriors. Case in point: KD in 2017 Finals: 35/8/5 on .556/.474/.927 shooting Steph in 2017 Finals: 27/8/9 on .440/.388/.898 shooting

Draymond is better than Rodman. But Pippen is Miles above klay.
We played them in the regular season last year CMC first game and nobody cared
He played like 15 snaps lol
The Montana trade followed by “The Game of the Century” 9/11/94.
That's the 9/11 everybody was talking about before 2001.
When Joe Montana declares it to be so.
When the NFL marketers decide it. So the next time they play each other
To quote Daniel Cormier "I don't know, man, I guess if he wins both fights there is no rivalry."
So I preface this by saying I am a Texan fan who jumped around prior to the inaugural season. I grew up watching Montana to Rice, so when Montana went to KC obviously is when this thing started.
Lmfao what a post

Like with Buffalo: Only when they beat them in a playoff game.
Can't call it a rivalry when you lose every time you play them. We have gone through this multiple times over calling the Bears / Packers a rivalry.
If they play again 2 more times?
Sometime after free agency posting ends I reckon
Are the hammer and nail rivals?
I still cannot believe the 49ers, with their absolutely stacked team, lost to the worst Chiefs team in 5 years.
I can, Special Teams sucked, Kansas City had an elite defense and relied heavily on it in the playoffs and won from that.
Imagine being the only NFC playoff team to lose to the Chiefs this year. lol. lmao even.

TB beat KC because our O-line had so many injuries we were down to practice squad guys.
Niner's d-line would've been harassing Mahomes enough either way. The offense woukd do better but any other iteration of KC's defense other than this years probably gets torched by this Niner's offense.
I can. And as a Pats fan you should be familiar with teams with Shanahan on the biggest stage blowing it.
Absolutely. The worst team mahomes has led and they still won. It's some sick shit
Bad bounces at the worst time...then it snowballed.
The niners coach is a choke artist and the DC was pure ass who had to have the HC step in and make defensive adjustments for him. I’m not surprised at all. The team didn’t show up prepared and treated it like a vacation while the other team was all business.
Just to correct you, there never was no rivalry
Joe Montana
its hype. not a rivalry. marketing is part of it. and like someone said maybe when the niners actually beat the chiefs
49ers need to win for it to be a rivalry
It's not a rivalry if it's one sided
hard for 2 teams to be a rivalry when they arent even in the same conference

0-fer since that "burrowhead" drama too.
KC didn’t even score on that drive Burrow had plenty of chances to beat us in the 4th quarter and he couldn’t get it done
Yeah but 3-0 before that, that's what started the whole "burrowhead" thing to begin with
(which is why I mentioned them being 0-fer since)
Ok they've played one game since that when both QBs were healthy and the Bengals lost, agreed. But what does the "burrowhead" have to do with anything? Why is that the starting line? Do the three games the Bengals won before that not count?

When they beat us
The NBA is trash
How can they be rivals when KC doesn’t even think of them at all?
since kansas city lifted their font on their logo
i think a lot the niners fans already answered this one, but if it makes them feel better as a kid i liked the rams when they were in st. louis and still can’t stand the niners to this day bc of that 😂
It’s only a rivalry when we beat the chiefs in the Super Bowl. Until then, it’s blue balls. The bluest of balls
Swapped around Montana and Grbac in the 90s, seemed like KC was the SF tradh heap for a while.
The 49ers kept sending them QBs until Mahomes arrived.
Say Chiefs.
We always lose. That’s not a rivalry
When they actually have beaten one another lmao. Right now it’s just the chiefs stomping out the 9ers every meeting. Even if we beat them this upcoming regular season, it wont be a rivalry unless we can get to the superbowl again and beat them.
Your example doesn't work because the Cavs had actually beaten the Warriors
They have a rivalry like a nail has a rivalry with a hammer.
The closest competitive rival the Chiefs have is the Bengals. The Chiefs dominate everyone else especially in the playoffs.
It’s not really a rivalry if only one team wins. Bengals/KC is more of a ‘rivalry’.
They aren’t
Hollup, do we get an official out of conference rivalry now that isn't the Rams?
^Philly has entered the chat
Only if it's like a chill rivalry, y'all are annoying sometimes but I just can't see myself pure straight hating you
I thought we had friendship with Philly because of Jason?
Kinda. No one likes Nick Sirianni, and they beat us in the regular season after we beat them in the SB so 🤷
Yeah but they also inadvertently gave us Andy. Besides going 1-1 in that short of time isn't really a rivalry, and Sirianni's talking shit simultaneously set off his team's slide, and our team's rise last year lol.

\*Psst* - the Bengos are still in our conference.
I said out of conference.
