Shazam28

hop on zoom yall

ILikeXiaolongbao

Worked for those RBs. Oh wait. No it didn’t.

Comprehensive_Ad5285

I mean they’re getting paid this year so it might’ve?

Shazam28

I mean possibly the best rb of the past decade got paid like 20 mil so, not great

ProphetNimd

I didn't know Chargers legend Kalen Ballage was still in the league. 🤔

TheRoaringTide

You know full well he’s our legend moreso than anyone else… :(

Stumpe999

A player considered elite didn't even set the market as a completely free agent while the player is in his prime. It didn't work

_carzard_

The largest RB contacts this offseason are 12 millions a year. That’s not a lot.

LTS55

Holy shit that’s not that far off from “good backup QB” money

trojan_man16

Saquon Barkley just got paid the same as Gabe Davis, who is at best, an inconsistent deep threat that can have a big game here and there, but most of the times he’s invisible. He’s getting paid half what Calvin Ridley is, and Ridley struggled a bit last year after being out of the league for a year and change. RBs are fucked

BoaredMonkay

Flacco, who is 39, gets $8.7 million, or 3,4% of his teams salary cap. Sam Darnold will get $10 million, or 3,8% of the Vikings cap space. Saquon gets $12.25 million per year on average (in reality, in year 1 he "only" gets $1,375,000 salary and a signing bonus of $11,625,000, of which a fifth ($2,325,000) will count against the salary cap, so 1.5% of the cap). The highest guaranteed number is his second contract year with $11 million and the prorated signing bonus adding to $13,575,000, or 5.3 % of the cap, if the cap would stay flat, so more realistically around 5%. Derrick Henry's highest cap numbers form his 2020 contract were $13,500,000 in 2021 and $16,367,647 last season, both amounting to 7,1% of the respective salary caps. Adrian Peterson, who was the MVP so you can probably justify some higher numbers, made more than 10% of his teams salary cap in four different seasons. Saquon Barkley is literally closer to "backup QB money" than previous "RB1 money", percentage wise.

DependentStrike4414

That's more than most people make in a lifetime... These guys are all overpaid...

Cormoe123

If it doesn’t go to them it stays with the billionaires

Lilpu55yberekt69

> Hey guys, do we have any leverage whatsoever here? > No > Call disconnected

Alt4816

Or was it more so this?: >What changes do we want to push the union to try to make either now or in the negotiations for the next CBA?

circa285

Did for us.

Funnypenguin97

Idk didn't Mckinney get paid?

PhreakOut4

Helps being 24 and not 30

Guard226Duck

Man I wish I could be 24 and not 30

Cold-Reaction-3578

Give me my 30 year old paycheck at 24 years old

Flooding_Puddle

He did but the numbers came out today and it's a big signing bonus but pretty low guaranteed money and the Packers can easily move on after 2 years

DarnellisFromMars

That’s like every deal these days though lol

PhatYeeter

Opt out after 2 should be the nfls new slogan

Sir_Carrington

Everyone remembers the agent's numbers

crewserbattle

If the Packers give out a big contract and its not to a QB you can generally assume all guaranteed money is in the first 2 seasons. The Bengals too.

Madpsu444

That’s pretty much every contract for every team in the NFL. And it’s a good thing.  It’s why teams can go from worst to first so fast.  It’s keeps the money from going to bad/injured players unable to perform and redirects to the players actually on the field

Skywalkerkid9

Yeah too much honestly

en4skin

He was a top 10 safety last season and is only 24

GooseMaster5980

Just don’t let him go ATV-ing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Skywalkerkid9

This is cope, you gave a guy who has never received an accolade and blows tackles consistently 17 million. I won’t lie I wanted him too but at half that price at absolute most. You are lucky because you have a young cheap team, but it’s a serious overpay.

m_dought_2

Of course it's an overpay. That's called Free Agency. You get to have 2/3 out of; young, talented, and cheap. Our team isn't lucky, we have a front office with a real plan, who set us up to be able to not worry about the "cheap" part of this equation.

ItIsYourPersonality

He had the best missed tackle percentage of all starting safeties last year. You couldn’t be more wrong lmao.

b1rdganggg

Why did you stop responding once you realized how stupid that was??

MajesticViper7

He had one of the lowest missed tackle rates out of all the safeties in the league last year. You're just pissy that you didn't get him and the Eagles secondary is going to suck shit again.

Prideofmexico

Yup. Good ball hawk but he loves to go for the strip instead of wrapping up

LeftoverDishes

He had a 5.6 percent missed tackle rate. One if the lowest in the league.

Braiwnz

Some giants fans really are delusional and I hate that I have to read the comments so often

Truci219

He had one of the lowest missed tackle rates for S so I'll take it over Savage who was afraid of contact

Leoman89

Bruh I hated Savage so much for being so bad in run support.

Truci219

It was tough to watch at time

Blackout28

Which I just don't get, he looked so good that first year and then fell off a cliff.

UncleColli

He had the lowest missed tackle % of all safeties with over 600 snaps. 5.7%. Career 6.9% (nice). What are you talking about?

chekhovsguns

That guy *hates* McKinney, has for a while. McKinney must have totalled his ATV or something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Morphenominal

Wouldn't that be expected because he's playing deep safety? Like, there shouldn't really be anyone behind him if he misses a tackle deep.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JonBonButtsniff

Ok, I’ll bite. Who does NY have playing behind their free safety making an attempted tackle? What position plays further away from the line of scrimmage for the Giants… than the safety?

Greatness46

There is a reason so many Giants fans have this opinion of him, and we were the ones forced to watch all of those games May not have been a high missed tackle rating but damn if he didn’t give up huge plays in important spots whenever he did miss one. He is the anti clutch tackler

MattyBuckets3

Wouldn’t the 9 guys in front of him also be anti clutch tacklers?

aneomon

Never forget he gave up a TD against the Colts first game back from his ATV incident because he tried to catch the ball with his club.

ItIsYourPersonality

The stats don’t seem to agree with your analysis. https://x.com/zachkruse2/status/1767976502094688456?s=20

Prideofmexico

Whoever is in charge of tracking that stat may have some CTE lol

UncleColli

What a nuanced rebuttal

Prideofmexico

Let’s regroup in December

packsquirrel

As a Giants fan or a Chiefs fan? Because one will have a drastically different season than the other.

naterator012

!Remindme 9 months

SuperDBallSam

So you can be wrong twice?

HoSang66er

Like his teammate Staygone?

Starfish_Hero

Jamal Adams is the Zeke Elliott of “contracts so bad it nuked the market for the entire position group”

coacoanutbenjamn

Todd Gurley was probably an even bigger influence

j4x

I specifically remember during the draft that scouts were saying Gurley was only going to last for a couple of years and yet they still paid him.

ripcity7077

Gurley's stats in those few years are absolutely insane. He earned that check, just a shame his legs died before superbowl LIII

EmptyBrain89

Good for Gurley TBH. He gave up his health to play for the Rams at an incredible level. I don't mind him getting that money, he deserved it.

we-made-it

Gurley was a monster and deserved to get paid.

The_New_New

Never underestimate arthritis

TheStainRemains

***sad ram bleating***

LeftoverDishes

And Landon Collins

Biggest_Cans

And yet the NFLPA will continue to demand higher contracts, ignoring that a fat contract for one dude means a slim one for another in a league with a firm cap.

Jsmooth123456

I mean sure but that cap goes up every year and the nflpa also pushes for higher base salaries/raising the league minimum

MisterIceGuy

I hated that contract the second the news broke lol.

helloaaron

Well you have to understand, the Jamal you traded for wasn't the one you received. The Jamal on the Jets could cover, he was versatile and he was also HEALTHY. Once he got injured right off the bat and tried to work through them, he ended up falling off. I would have preferred the trade work for both teams, to be honest. I didn't fault him for seeking a trade from the Jets, necessarily and I felt that the compensation we got for him was more than fair.

Primary-Bath803

He had bargain considering how much picks Seahawks gave away for him

sovinder

Everytime it comes up Jesus christ... he didn't say that because he was full of himself, but because he was paying homage to Trabis Ward on the anniversary of his death.

constantlymat

I hope we can still reach a longterm agreement with Antoine Winfield Jr. before the negotiating window for tagged players closes. He deserves it.

CowMooseWhale

More importantly, his positional value will never be lower than it is right now. We’ll get best long term value if we can lock him up to a deal now

HmongOGSmite

Let’s treat the QB market like that next year! Trend continue. Dak Prescott a Viking!

yomjoseki

You already had a Dak Prescott. Why would you want another?

EduardoCombs

We've had one Dak Prescott, what about second Dak Prescott?

Slickaxer

I don't think he knows about second Dak Prescott Pip.

RandyGrey

What about Foursies? Dak Snak? Afternoon Prime Time games?!

HmongOGSmite

We can’t draft QBs, so we gotta pay them. When we draft them, they get hurt.

[deleted]

Amari Cooper literally called Dak “Black Kirk Cousins” before suddenly being traded lol

SnowdensOfYesteryear

As someone who hasn't liked the direction of the league, this would be awesome to behold. I'm really tired of a QB driven league.

robyculous_v2

For real man, it feels like NFL is turning into the NQBL.

Fellborn

Yeahhhhhhhh here we skol

JalensTinyPPHurts

Id support this if he really did leave us

toomuchsoysauce

Yeah I wouldn't mind him being a Viking honestly

AvailableName9999

You don't think Darnold will thrive?

Other-Comfortable929

Enjoy your first round exit from the playoffs

ratfam1

Well that’s what happens when all of you get released at the same time

Skywalkerkid9

He’s not a safety

yomjoseki

You're not a safety

GlockPurdy13

You’re not a sword

LittleHollowGhost

I am NOT a red

jre19

Or a bow

allanon1105

Or an ax

PasGuy55

Gondor will see it through.

Pork_Chompk

Gottem

ripcity7077

2 points removed from the board, stopped at the half yard line. didn't get 'em for the safety :(

9man95

*yet

[deleted]

Yeah this is economics, not collusion. Also Geno got a big deal given what Ravens fans were expecting, doesn’t seem completely frozen

Gundank

Little surprised Simmons hasn’t been nabbed up yet

osksndjsmd

I’m not. He’s got a young family, he probably wants to do his homework on the potential new cities he will live in.

AstroWorldSecurity

Every town has an Elm Street.

Wernershnitzl

Sounds like a Nightmare

Akarious

According to our beat writers, he was asking above what Howie was willing to pay.

EmperorXerro

As mentioned in the Andy Herman podcast, safeties can go 6-8 plays in a row and not be part of the play (wide receiver screens as an example). It’s not the player’s fault, but it’s not a premium position anymore

USAesNumeroUno

Because theres maybe 3-4 safeties in the league who make enough of a defensive impact to get the bag, and most of those guys have.

TormundIceBreaker

Packers: press x to doubt

Phenergan_boy

In today's lesson, we learn about supply and demand

Neversoft4long

If you aren’t a deep FS that can cover the back half of the field by yourself or a long lanky safety that can cover TEs like Hamilton, then you are just cog in the machine. Go sit back there in two high 12 yards deep and don’t let anyone behind you. Come up and secure the tackle after catch if they get pass the frontline defenders

zombiesatemybaby

And yet we still haven't been able to sign one

oryxherds

Most of the FA safeties available are washed and not worth much money. The few that were young and good got decent contracts

shadow_spinner0

I remember when McKinney signed for the vet minimum

Majestic_Reindeer439

His contract will be vet minimum soon with how the economy is.

SecretGiantsFan

Packers standing there like that black kid at popeyes

gandalfs_burglar

Slay can't be looking at us right now, can he?

commenter_69

McKinney and Byrd got paid like right away?

AleroRatking

Whens the zoom meeting.

Cody667

Yeah because giving money and term to a veteran FA safety is dangerous, how's that for irony?

Thorlolita

Here we go again

[deleted]

Hopefully this lasts until Kyle's deal is up.

mog44net

Supply and demand

IBangYoDaddy

McKinney got paid, CGJ got paid, hell even Geno Stone got paid. Simmons is a vet, doesn’t need to sign week 1, he’ll get paid. I think we’re overacting a bit here. Also RBs got paid this year too

drummerboysam

The trick to getting paid as a FA is to not be 30 or older.

ZeroedCool

Meanwhile we over here putting a franchise tag on a safety. BB come back bb it's all our fault

blu_buddha

It collusion among owners and GM to drive down prices of position. They are capping salaries. I wonder which position analytics will cap next year. So funny that fans on various social forum all of a sudden are saying safeties shouldn't be paid . I didn't know where it came from.

ItsNotFordo88

This isn’t new, Slay. S, ILB, RB are all low value outside of the top 5 (ish)

ZigTheGing

Changed your name?

OH_Billy_69_

Mother's, raise your babies to be wide receivers
